I'm now going to introduce you to the rankings. To see them: same way as in the World Cup: It's on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. If you can't see them, I can do an Open Office version as well, this is not a problem. Here's a "simple" description of the formula used to rank:

w* = number of wins
t* = number of ties
otl* = number of ot losses
gs* = group strenght
nbrgame* = number of games played in group phase
q* = qualification bonus
pow* = number of playoff wins
totpts = total points

* = 1: most recent cup
* = 2: 2nd most recent cup
* = 3: 3rd most recent cup

totpts = squareroot((gs1(w1*2+t1+otl1) * 3 / nbrgame1+q1+pow1+1)) + squareroot([(2 / 3)(gs2(w2*2+t2+otl2) * 3 / nbrgame2+q2+pow2+1)]) + squareroot([(1 / 3)(gs3(w3*2+t3+otl3) * 3 / nbrgame3+q3+pow3+1)])

Calculation of group strenght:

Timely has a very different meaning when applied to NS hockey tournaments. Punctuality has never been our strong suit.

I guess we can start the cup. Later tonight, I'm going to do the group graw for the groups. 20 teams split in 4 groups. Top 3 advance. Then a second round involving 2nd and 3rd place teams in which only 4 advance to the Quarter-finals, then to the semis right to the final.
