Diego Clemente will be in lane four for the men's 100 meters butterfly finals but Phillipe Destry will be right next to him as he goes for his third gold medal at the games. Jessica Langton made it two golds and a total of four medals overnight as she triumphed in the 800 meters freestyle, beating out Edward City's Ariandra Hue in a thrilling contest. Langton recorded a time of 8 minutes 33 point 99 seconds as she fell behind early but overtook Hue by the midway point and the two were neck and neck the rest of the way...

"The referee is calling the match over!!! This is unbelievable...and there are Wentland fans pouring on to the mat...the security cannot cope...and de Maua is running for dear life...the crowd do not want to let this stand..."
"It can't stand, it was a foul, Hiroshima MUST win..."
"I don't know, Geoff...the referee's decision is final, and he has given it to the Cafundeu grappler..."
"It's astonishing...what was he thinking of?"
"I don't know but the police are wading in with batons...I'm not sure what to make of this as some of the supporters are souplessing the police...this is utter carnage..."
"Hiroshima is not involved..."
"No...he has gone to the back to get his mask...but this is beyond a joke...and it's all the fault of the referee..."
"Indeed, Geoff. For those who have just joined us, de Maua ripped off Aiki Hiroshima's sacred mask when 3-2 down, Hiroshima ran off hiding his face and the referee counted that as a five point penalty...he has since disqualified Hiroshima...the reigning champion is beaten...and the place is on fire!!!"
***
There was some talk of banning Wentland wrestlers from the remaining matches, or of taking wrestling out of the Olympics entirely. But on review of the video it was evident that the referee for the bout was not competent to govern a heavyweight bout and that his ruling that Hiroshima conceded five points for an attire readjustment was wrong. The problem was that the Wentland crowd were more knowledgeable on the subject of the applicable rules than the referee and this was taken into account.
Instead, Wentland fans were banned from the charred arena for the next matches. This was hopefully going to put less pressure on the referees. But Albert Wall had his own protest - he refused to take part in the third period of his match against Presas and forfeited the gold. Angus Campbell did not go so far but he deliberately gave away three points by walking away in the final thirty seconds of his gold medal-winning performance against Michel Serdan. Otherwise it was business as usual, Evie Regan also taking gold in a short match against Piri of Maineiacs thanks to a short-arm throw.

MONOPOLISTS' TWENTIETH DAY RESULTS
Athletics (Men's 200m) - Beneditto won the gold medal in the competition.
Canoeing (men) - silver medal to Bráulio Leal in the flatwater K-1.
Handball (women) - Cafundéu reached the semifinals after a victory against Edward City.
Beach Volleyball (men) - horrible result, as both duets lost their games.
Weightlifting - Bom Baddo won the silver medal in the over 105kg competition.
Wrestling - Pitbull de Mauá had an excellent fight and won the gold medal. Wentland's fans were frustrated with the result, and some of them tried to fight against Pitbull, who showed his violence defeating five supporters of the opponent country. Michel Serdan was too calm and lost the final fight, ending with a silver medal.
Association Football (men) - Cafundéu defeated Wentland with goals of Kemp (twice) and Toninho, and reached the semifinals.
Boxing - Ligeirinho won the gold medal, but Porrada lost the final and got a silver medal.
Canoeing (women) - Maria Clara finished in second in the flatwater K-1.
Synchronized Swimming (women) - Cafundéu's team finished in the third place and got the bronze medal.
Beach Volleyball (women) - good results: both duets won and are in the semifinals.

As if a mirage, slowly the expanse
Of water passes underneath the blade
That Wendy holds. She strives to join a dance
Of aquatic splendor that can't be made
By human hands, so she loosens her grip,
Her mind and boat both wandering off course.
This is no well-outfitted battleship
No frigate with precise aim and strong force
But just a kayak, urged on to be sleek
Mimicking nature. Wendy's only quest
Is to attune herself to knowledge: seek
The water's secrets-not to be the best.
Her questions can't be answered from first place.
In truth, she'd rather think alone than race.

OLYMPIC UPDATE
Day 20 results:
Tough day in the Triathalon as Qazox' best chance for a medal in this event, Tanisha Howser, colapsed at the bike/run exchange and could not continue. At the time she had a 56 second lead on the eventual winner Olívia Valinhos of Cafundeu. The 10k was Howser's strength and she might have set a record if she finished. Darcy Danzy finsihed in 18th with a time of 2:11:06.49.
That's all the competition involving Qazox for now, stay tuned to QSNBS for all your Olympic coverage, including all of Qazox' Football mtaches, live and without interuption.

1. It was a hard fought match, but at the end of the fourth round, it was Jake Sutton of Jamestown who was the victor, 27-25 over Josh Nazlo of Stopmenow100. The two traded punches evenly for the first two rounds, before Nazlo was up by 1 point after 6 minutes. Sutton then looked frantic for the first minute, but settled into a rhythym in the last 60 seconds, including a punch that caught Nazlo weaving. His coach, Herbie Bernstein had this to say. "I know he's my fighter, but that counter he threw I don't think I've seen anyone hit that hard ever." With news of the victory, crowds in most cities across the country poured into the streets, where police were waiting and while noisy, with some arrests reported, the crowd was more genuinely excited than upset. The games end for Coocoostan tomorrow, when the Men's Water Polo team looks to equal their Bronze-medal winning performance at the World Championsip against Edward City...(Cont'd A2)

Laperriere leads Kelssek to final
Martin Laperriere's hat trick helped Kelssek prevail in a tough, intense and often violent Olympic semi-final contest against Coocoostan and send them to the final to face the home team for the gold medal.
The 8-6 victory didn't come easy as the Coocoostanis perhaps felt the rivalry a bit more keenly than the Kelssekians did and stamped their authority on the match from the get-go, quickly getting up by two goals, but captain Brandon Nichol pulled one back with a long-range lob just seconds from the end of the first quarter.
Then it was Laperriere's turn. He began by levelling the score with a skip shot from the perimeter while Vladislav Maltsev was sinbinned. And as the two teams traded chances and goals through the game, it was Laperriere who won it with two more howitzers in the fourth quarter which left goalie Dimitri Drygyn with little chance.
Credit should also go to the tough, gritty performance of hole set Dmitri Stefanovic, who contributed a goal of his own and kept the Coocoostan defence busy and worn down with his physical presence in front of the net. It was often the need to neutralise Stefanovic which created openings for the other players to exploit.
The team now look forward to the final tonight (2am Monday, Coastal Daylight Time) and will hope to return home with the gold after failing to win the World Championships at home in February.

"Well, Ange."
"Well, Nettie."
"How do we do this?"
"Dunno."
"Not our best event."
"No."
"Let's blitz them."
"OK."
500 metres out Angie Cook and Nettie Ook were dominating. They had an eleven second lead. An eternity in kayaking terms. But they were unusued to the 1000m distance and had to steady the pace. They were tying up massively with 200 to go and the lead was down to six seconds. Johnston and Barber had noticed and tried to press on, making up over four seconds in the last 200 metres, but they had timed their finishing burst just a smidgeon too late. It was the second gold of the Games for the Ookies. Astonishing.
And it was indeed the start of an astonishing day for Wentland. Penny Grainger pinned Polyana Cartola in four seconds to march into the Greco-Roman final with a Warplands throw. The fastest-ever match at the Olympics. Eric Taylor looked like he would throw away gold when he went four down to Erdem but a late Mondegreen souplesse saw him snatch it back from the jaws of fate. And the keirin! Wentland used to laugh at that silly little motorbike that paced the field, but the Thomas twins confused the field. During the pacing sessions some were trying to block Annabeth, others Mirella, but with the constant swapping of places the thread was lost and as the pace bike pulled off Annabeth was in a perfect position to charge down the inside into the lead and took gold by the width of a tyre. The question was whether the medal ceremony VIPs could tell her apart from her sister.

Langton bags fifth medal in 200m fly
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r56/kelchek/21may-1.jpg
QUERZAKHI - Jessica Langton has won a stunning fifth Olympic medal by taking the bronze last night in the women's 200m butterfly.
The 22-year old swimmer, who grew up in the Port Moody area of Burnaby, lost out in a fierce fight for the silver with Elisabeth Vaneira of Cafundéu, who finished just ahead of Langton.
Nevertheless, Langton's glee was hard to disguise as she emerged from the water, smiling and hugging several of her competitiors. Her five medals is the most by any single Kelssekian athlete at the Olympics.
Kelssek's performance in the swimming competition has already exceeded high expectations and been a big reason the Olympics have been as successful for Kelssek as they have been. With eight golds, five silvers, and six bronzes, the swimming team by itself would occupy 14th place in the medal tally, just behind Bazalonia.
"I've been completely blown away by it all," says Henri Dénai, the representative of Swimming Kelssek heading the team here. "Let others complain about the water, I think it's suiting us fine."
Pool conditions at Querzakhi had come under scrutiny as some swimmers complain of too-warm water temperatures, which has led many commentators to conclude is the reason so few records have been set there.
And Langton could still make it six with the medley relay team, which will compete on the closing day of the Olympics this Wednesday.

OLYMPIC UPDATE
Day 21 results:
Bittersweet Day for Qazox, as the 2nd Summer Olympics near a close. In Women's football, the Lady Oxen prevailed in a Shoot-out against Cafundeu 2-1 after being tied 1-1 after regulation and extra time. The win sets up a rematch of the 1st Gold medal final in Ashford 4 years ago, against Ariddia, who managed to steal one from Estresse Intenso 1-0. 4 years ago, the match was completely one sided as Qazox won 4-1. Will there be a repeat or will Ariddia shock the world?
In Men's Triathalon, Jeff Holl had a 35 second lead evaporate from the bike/run transition to the finish as 55873 caught Jeff and pasted him in the last 400 meters to steal the bronze medal away. Holl's time of 1:53:58.96 placed him in 4th overall. Christian Kissling, in his first international triathalon finsihed a disant 19th with a time of 1:57:55.20.
With only a couple of days left, Qazox is assured of winning at least one more medal, bringing the total to 5. 4 years ago we only won 1 medal, so it is an improvement, but just a bit short of the 7 expected.
That's all the competition involving Qazox for now, stay tuned to QSNBS for all your Olympic coverage, including all of Qazox' Football mtaches, live and without interuption.

SATIVAVILLE Olympic Coverage:
Live from Querzakhi: FINAL UPDATE
The last two events Sativaville competed in at the Querzakhi Games of the 2nd Olympiad was in the triathalon. Neither competitior won a medal, although Ryan Header finished 5th with a time of 1:54:15.16 in the men's. In the women's Holly Griffith was the next to last to finish with a time of 2:15:13.42.
That concludes our coverage of the Second Summer Olympic Games. The country won two medals and came close in a couple of other events. The SCO (Sativaville Council Olympique) has decided to venture into the Winter games, as such a time they are held. This could be problemetic as the only place there is consistant snow is on Mt. Marley, which is volcanic.

"Be honest," the UCI President said to Aristide Dance, Wentland Cycling President. "You have no idea what a madison is, do you?"
"Of course! It is a surname. "
"It is also a type of bicycle race. "
"Is it?"
"Yes. It is NOT restricted to people called Madison. "
"Ah. "
"Are you going to withdraw?"
"Er...I will get back to you on that. "
Dance had avoided getting back for six days and had intensively taught the Madisons how to ride. And it worked. Well, they still came last. But not totally humiliated.
***
"Well, Angie?"
"Well, Nettie?"
"Up for a hat trick?"
"Yeah, why not?"
Cook and Ook were going for an unprecedented third gold in their favourite event. The other competitors were aware of their explosive pace and desperately tried to counter - but could not keep it going for long enough. By 300m the others were shattered and the Rimelands pairing had the second and a half lead they kept to the finish for the hat trick gold.
The only question was whether this was more dominant than Penny Grainger's performance on the mat, as Grainger, criticized for her record semi win for not taking the opportunity to show her skills, destroyed Petsiv with a variety of holds, escapes and minor throws. A double figure haul without a single five pointer. After her four second semi, it was the easiest gold earned by a Wentland athlete.

Ibix take bronze 8-6, as Coocoostan ends with 7 medals
The final chapter of Coocoostan's Olympics was written last night, when the Men's Water Polo team defeated Edward City 8-6 to take a 6th Bronze for the country, as well as the first in a team sport. What's next for Water Polo, another sport that serves as an example to the others, is anyone's guess. The team was well known to each other, having played at the World Championships in April. There hadn't been any intention to attend, until an invited from Kelssekian organizers sparked a national team. Based mostly of the Krilya Coocoobad Sports Club's team, the Men took a Bronze on the world stage as well. The same team was brought back together after a few weeks rest, where they started over again, with better results. While there may be a little more interest in Water Polo, those in the game know all to well how the novelty soon wears off. Brian Douglas, the team's lone Anglophone coach, as well as head coach of the Wajax Dolphins doesn't think much will change. "There was a bit of interest after the worlds bronze, because it was our first international competition, but I think now the Water Polo bronze is going to be overshadowed by the Hockey Playoffs, Baseball being a pro sport, pro American Football, plus when they're over, hockey and football will be starting again, so there's no room for Water Polo to grow." Whether the whole team will be playing domestically next year is interesting as well, as the Kelssek Water Polo League was very interested in foreign players coming into the Olympics and with Coocoostan being so close, it seems ripe for the picking. The players offered spots in the KWPL would only likely turn them down if there was a professional league here, which seems unlikely. Only in the Capital, where thousands jam a fifty year old pool to watch Krilya Coocoobad, there is interest and the team is a niche part of the sports scene.
Overall, the team did well. As one athlete put it, "If this is our disorganized bid, I'd love to see what we can do with some preparation." The preparation is already underway. Already, the CoOC is borderline harassing its winter sports bodies to get something put together, to produce a full team. Is an olympic bid on the horizon? "You have to be kidding," was the curt reply one CoOC official gave. Still, with several examples of teams raking in medals after starting poorly, there are a lot of people worth learning from. The result of the post-olympic fight already brewing will tell the tale.
Notes: Coocoostan sits in 25th, with 7 medals(1 Gold,6 Bronze)
With two days left, almost the whole delegation(save the baseball and softball teams) are still in the country. Jake Sutton will act as Flag-Bearer at the closing ceremony, with the remaining medallists marching in the front of the team.

The wind blows others' odors in his face
As Hans solemnly treks onward. The pack
Huddles together, trying to keep pace
With one another. Secure in the back
He plods forward, identical step
By step. His strength declines linearly:
He has no spirit to go on, no pep
But somehow, plenty of ability.
So minutes become hours. He's aware
As never before that time passes. Drain
His force seems to be its only care:
Its sole motive to force him to know pain.
But knowing pain requires knowledge. Thought
And Hans compatible? Pundits said not...

MONOPOLISTS' TWENTY-SECOND DAY RESULTS
Boxing - unbelievable day for Cafundéu's boxers, as they lost their four fights in the finals, losing to four different fighters from Maineiacs.
Handball (women) - Cafundéu defeated Quakmybush and will play against Ropa-Topia in the final.
Rowing (women) - the lightweight four team finished in the second position.
Swimming - Vaneira won a silver in the 200m backstroke competition. Clemente and Hadid won silver and bronze medals in the 100m butterfly competition. Virgin won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.
Association Football (men) - team lost to Ariddia in the semifinals. Goals were scored by Tales (all the three).
Beach Volleyball (women) - Surprising defeat of Keller and Marítima in the final. They got silver, while the other duet won the bronze medal.
CAFUNDÉU IS THE "KING OF SILVERS"
With an impressive number of silver medals, much more than the other countries have, some citizens started calling Cafundéu the King of Silvers of the Olympic Games. The country sent talented and good athletes, but they seemed very nervous in the decisions.
Camilla Britto, a famous reporter of the city of Espinal, talked to some citizens. She said to one of them: "Do you know that Cafundéu won more silvers than any other country in this Summer Olympics?"
The man, confused, only said: "Err... is that good or bad?"
Camilla couldn't find an answer: "I don't know."

"Well, Angie?"
"Well, Nettie?"
"Up for a fourth?"
"Yeah, why not?"
Nettie Ook had an unprecedented third gold. Now she was going for her fourth. But the exertions over recent days proved too much. After a trademark explosive start it looked possible for 300m but she was caught and eventually settled for bronze as Radzinski caught her late on.
***
Meanwhile the Olympic Committee were deciding to let the Wentland fans back in to the wrestling arena. Tony Sinclair's gold was met in near silence from the dozen or so St Samuel fans and Amelia Price was so upset by the lack of noise that she feigned falling asleep whilst Josephine Boone tried - unsuccessfully - to escape from the Price Vice. The situation was not helped by thousands of Wentland fans outside with banners demanding 'Justice For Wentland' and chanting "oo are ya?" every time an opposing delegation entered. At least Sinclair's gold cheered everyone up, when he emerged with it around his neck. Or maybe it was the fact that the team heartthrob was otherwise naked.

OLYMPIC UPDATE
Day 23 early results:
DISSAPOINTMENT AND SHOCK
At the Summer Olympics, Qazox' women's team stood an impressive 15-0-0 in competition, until today that is as Ariddia stunned the defending Gold medalists 4-1 to snatch away gold.
But that wasn't the only shcok today as in the women's mountain bike, Coba Turin won gold setting a new Olympic record as well as she dominated the course with a time of 1:57:41. Teammates Denise Richards and Luanne Holt finished well back with times of 2:12:21 and (ooc: guessing a lap is 40 sec or so right?) 2:52:09 respectively.
So add one more gold and a silver to Qazox' total and we get 6 medals, just short of the 7 predicted by our council. 2 of each is a decent improvement, and in 4 years, expect that to at least double.
(ooc to CH: I don't think that i should have been in the Women’s Team Sprint—Final as I lost in the 1st round. I believe that Quakmybush (Mendoza/Núñez/Chandler) (QMB) should have been there instead. Don't wanna steal any medals I didn't rightfully earn.)
LAST MINUTE UPDATE:
Qazox had an athlete competing in the men's marathon, unbeknownst to this reporter. Chris Stoli with a time of 2:22:32 finished 15th.
That's all the competition for Qazox at these games, See you in 4 years.

The rugged mountains of the United Capitalizt States were as unique as any. Perhaps no number could serve as record: each route, each race was unique.
Esther's course was fueled by anger. After falling behind early, she continued feverishly, trying to outlast just one person...just one more, who fell off the pace...
May's was cooler, more controlled. She wove between others, often tilting but never falling.
Lucia's was one of desperation. Sweat flew off her as she fought her way to the finish line, only seconds separating the bikers.
In contrast, the pools were the same worldwide-at least until swimming began. Then, the chaotic waves would interfere on minuscule levels, making every race unique.
Kris shot off the block, his mind crowded with irrelevant concepts. He tried to blur them away-this was the Olympics-which was even more distraction. Pushing onward, he whirled around at the end of the pool, grazing it with his hand. He had practiced well enough to know the distance by feel.
Then he was rushing out, and Taylor leaping in. He tried to conserve his energy, knowing that as the slowest swimmer on the team, he would need the most help in the final spurt. But he was being quickly passed up, and eventually kicked into some newly-discovered reserves around thirty meters in. Amazing himself and anyone else watching by not fading, he continued strongly all the way through.
Ronnie, however, lagged. Even the natural movements of the stroke felt awkward. It was the best he could do to push on, trying to blind himself to the others. But as he exited, he was mentally reviewing how many would qualify.
The water immediately halted Nolan's fidgets. He had not liked waiting that long, of course: he wanted his teammates to swim quickly. But nevertheless, he was in, surging underwater as he fought to catch up with anyone he could, then resurfacing for the final push.
And then? He clambered out, shivering with his teammates, blinking back the water-it was only pool water, after all-as the scores came into view. They'd qualified!

"Well, Ange?"
"Well, Nettie?"
"Ready for a fourth?"
"Yeah, why not?"
Angie Cook had an unprecedented third gold. Now she was going for her fourth. The extra day's rest had done her good. Her rivals expected a blistering start but she hung back. The others exerted themselves nervously, wondering whether she had shot her bold, but at 1000m she broke them with a burst of speed that sent her six seconds clear and cruising for the finish. In the end it was all too easy and the first person to congratulate her was Nettie Ook, pushing her back into the water.
***
No Wentland swimmer had ever made a final. Some considered Mike Shepard's entry into the 10000 a cheap way of doing it. Pick an event without heats and go for it.
With a short distance remaining no-one was thinking that. He was in an astonishing fourth. Agonizingly close to a medal, a matter of seconds away.
Then he found a fourth wind, having had a second and third. On the penultimate touch he overtook a tiring Harris for bronze and in the very last strokes overhauled Zanipolo for silver. Shepard was so exhausted he could not even get out of the pool unassisted and needed reviving before the ceremony.
***
The wrestling finished on a high note. Amelia Price confirmed her promise with a controlled victory over Poriere, Mowersby got the gold he had threatened thanks to an enormous cobra throw and big, beautiful, bouncing, bombastic, babyfaced barbarian Beth Ditto overpowered McEgre for a squashy gold in the Greco Roman heavyweight. No wrestling clean sweep, but representation in every final, and overhalf of all medals being gold...the Blue Streak had converted its chances into success.

Olympians bid goodbye to Querzakhi
"Outstanding" and "flawless" are some of the glowing adjectives being tossed around to describe the Olympics just concluded in Querzakhi as Kelssek also celebrates a gargantuan medal haul which exceeded all expectations.
Jessica Langton, who picked up a sixth medal with the second place won by the women's medley relay team, was the natural and unquestioned choice to carry the flag at the closing ceremony.
"She has worked hard and it's paid off. Her efforts have been nothing short of inspiring," said chef-de-mission Dennis Parker, "and she is truly an exemplary athlete."
The performance of Kelssek's athletes in Querzakhi was nothing short of extraordinary, however, and in truth all of them, medal winners or not, deserved the honour. The celebration they provoked with their efforts brought the nation together.
And as a dazzling display of lights and pyrotechnics brought the Second Summer Olympiad to a close, speculation is already heating up over where the next edition will be held. While the Kelssekian Olympic Committee has ruled out any bid in the immediate future, other nations are considering bids for the next games. But whereever it is, you can be sure that our winter athletes are itching to make their mark (no, not in the writing-your-name-in-the-snow-without-hands sense).

(Great job with this!)
Kris took off, propelling through the water. The ceiling seemed infinitely far away: while crazed fans waved flags in the bleachers, he looked straight up, trying to tune it all out. Like radio waves dissolving into static over long distances, he made waves as he pushed past.
Shane tried to maintain his energy by focusing on the back of the rider in front of him. It worked as planned: he maintained a constant speed throughout the race, but could never get ahead. Languishing in the back, he pressed on. The "glory of competition" still held an indefinite allure.
Taylor felt mediocre or worse. Arching low in the water, he willed himself forward: or backward, as it were, promising to make it up on the return leg. The dangers of relays were all too clear: he knew he couldn't count on his teammates to do the work for him, but controlling his emotion was just as hard.
Henry felt vaguely ashamed at being so close to Caleb. He had not come to be a pacemaker. The emotion built up for miles until finally, he surged ahead. But sprinting could not last long in mountain biking. He reverted to the slower, long-term motions only half-heartedly, with varying speeds that ultimately gave way to a final desperate push across the finish line, a second behind two others neck-and-neck.
Ronnie's exuberant dive in produced bubbles that were swiftly overcome by his powerful strokes. While he remained blissfully oblivious, a twitching Nolan on the deck and watchers worldwide were realizing that he had a chance to medal.
Caleb was exhausted by the time he made it across the finish line, as he had of course expected. He staggered off of his bike, and stood for a moment gripping the handlebars. He relinquished them instantaneously, once he remembered that people were coming from behind him, and dashed out of the route. Slowly uncoiling his hands, he stared down at the handlebar's pattern that was now pressed into them.
Nolan's right ear touched the water with every stroke, but he could not be deafened to the thundering cheers. Not allowing himself to be rapt in the potentiality of victory, or an approximation thereof, he continued, feeling as if his entire life had built to the final stretch.
From the depths of the pool to the heights of the mountains, Zwangzug's competitors on the final day would end right where they began: level on the ground, off of the podium. But it was Nolan who bore the flag in the closing ceremony, and all of the competitors were looking towards the stars.

OC: Many thanks to New Manhattan for the excellent hosting of these Games. I apologize for not posting more (I am using a blackberry for this so it's torture) as I would have developed more story lines. But I did enjoy the rps I could make and I can't imagine the gargantuan effort needed to pull this sort of thing off.
