Somewhere in Qazox...

"Dammnation.. we tried Star Trek characters once, and failed, and last time we had what cartoons?? Dammit isn't there any body who actually knows how to play this Hockey game?" bellowed Mr. Smith to the cabinet of Qazox Hockey International.

"Sir, i do have a suggestion, but the chances of it actually succeeding are slim..." a Mr. Jones replied.

"Well out with it man. We have a roster to post and It's due in a couple of days..." Mr. Smith bellowed at the young man.

"Well, Sir, since we can trancend time and space, why not just get the best players of all-time to play for us?" Mr. Jones replied.

After taking a brisk walk around the table, the other 4 men there, Mr. Smythe, Mr. Johnson, Mr. White and Mr. Black, were startled by Mr. Smith's newest bellowing:

WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T WE THINK OF THIS BEFORE???

(ooc: Roster will be posted later today.)
Corneliu
07-04-2007, 14:59
The Corneliuan Hockey team stepped off the plane in Quakmybush. The head coach looked around and nodded.

"This is perfect for hockey. Ok boys. Time for us to get going to our hotel and to take over a hockey rink for practice. We have a lot to do before we can win this tournament."

The team formed up on the tarmac and marched to their team bus. AFter about a fifteen minute bus ride, they ditched their luggage in their rooms and got back on the bus and headed to the nearest rink for practice.

*Roster is same as last time*

At a news conference before leaving for Quakmybush, the LancasterCounty Hockey Federation (the federation that governs all Hockey Leagues at the High School, College, and Semi-Pro Hockey) announced the first ever Lancaster County National Hockey Team.

"Thank you all for comming" President Andersson said as the room quited down at the Lancaster City Hockey Rink. "First of all, this is quite an honor for you all to see our finest players compete on the world stage. Second, we do have high hopes but since this is our first year on the international stage, we'll be laying the ground work for the next cup.

"With that said, let us introduce to you the hockey team"

*As each of their names was announced, they skated onto the ice and lined up in front of the cameras and the crowd that was there for this announcement to wild applauds*

"Now we'll move on to our Defensemen! And they are:

From Litiz Community College, A Freshman from Manheim, Cordell Peterson
From Little Britain University, A Freshman from Conoy, Fred Walker

From Drunmore Biblical, A Senior from East Drunore, Lawrence Samson
From Manheim State University, A sophmore from Manheim, Michael Johson
From Millersville University, A Freshman from Millersville, Jason Kellerman

"Behind them will be our wingmen! And they are:

"And last but not least, our Centers! And they are:

From East Petersburg State University, A Sophmore from Clay Township and the Team Captain, Jake Moyer
From Christiana Biblical University, A Senior from Salisbury, Andrew Garza
From Providence University, A Freshman from Manheim, Adam Tripp"

With the whole team now assembled, the people were all clapping as the president paused for a moment.

"And now our coaches! They are:

"There you have it folks, the first ever LancasterCounty National Hockey Team."

Bazalonian Field/Ice Hockey Team

Manager: Caleb Watson, Until recently he was the Assisting Coach to Saint-François Anges in the Oliverrian Hockey League. apparently the worst Assistant coach in the league, however in desperation the Bazalonian team took him and made him not only a coach, not only their head coach but the guy responsible for the entire team and their entourage.

Scoring Line 1
LW- #11 - One of Bazalonia's best male forwards for Field Hockey, seems to be able to strategise well, though it is currently unsure wether his skills will rub off into Ice Hokey or whether his mind is stuck on field Hockey
C- #2 (C) - A female scorer and captain of the team, she is also the captain of the women's field hockey team and mixed field Hockey team whenever they get around to playing. She hates playing Ice Hockey but she is currently forced into doing it by those around her.
RW- #18 , another male scorer, though this one is not afriad if a bit of physicality he is one of the people in the team that enjoys the new physical aspect.

Calcutta Roster
Manager: Luaf Rochest

Scoring Line 1
LW - Bill Clemens
Age - 1281
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 189 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - Bill prefers to dish off to his line mates than take the shot himself, and is the fastest person on the squad.

C - Michael Walker (C)
Age - 1076
Height - 6'3"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - Is the clutch playmaker on the squad, serving on the first power play and penalty kill, as well as being the second shooter when it comes to a shootout.

RW - Martin Fressis
Age - 973
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 198 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - A goal scorer born and raised, lead the EHL in goals the last three seasons. Serves on the 1st power play and is the first shooter in shootouts.

Scoring Line 2
LW- Niko Defriance
Age - 867
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - This winger is defensive minded, always dropping to the ice to block opposing shots and doing all the little things that frustrate opposing forwards. He is deceptively fast, and is on the second power play and first penalty kill.

C- Joe Tatum
Age - 1027
Height - 6'4"
Weight - 210 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The muscle of the squad, willing to do it all for the squad, and gets alot of "dirty" goals off a rebounds and tip ins. Centers the second power play line.

RW- Sergei Osefrus
Age - 1044
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 202 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The other pure goal scorer on the squad, second only in skill to Martin when it comes to finding ways to break keepers down. Unlike Martin though, Sergei also has an eye for setting up his teammates, that has allowed him to lead the EHL in points the last five seasons, even when he is not getting the most goals. Plays on the second power play, second penalty kill, and is the third shooter in shootouts.

Checking Line 1
LW- Jere Kapenen
Age - 766
Height - 5'9"
Weight - 176 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - backhand
Misc - A good balance of defence and offence mixed in this small forward who plays twice as big as he is. Defences hate it when he charges at them with his excellent dekeing skills.

C- Marcus Orealus
Age - 847
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 206
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The most physical and aggressive elf on the squad, who has lead the league in penalty minutes and five minute majors the last two seasons. However, he is the best face off man the squad has.

RW- Daniel Almonte
Age - 755
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 186 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - Just a pure physical checker that gets in and fights in the corners and in front of the net.

Checking Line 2
LW- Will Marcus
Age - 821
Height - 6'0"
Weight - 221
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A body builder in his off time, this lad is a mammoth of an elf, who will take on any body, and leave them battered and bruised after every match despite the outcome.

C- Ricky Donomian
Age - 946
Height - 6'2'
Weight - 197
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A late bloomer in talent, who normally would center a second or third line if not for how stacked the squad is at that position. Uses his frame to the best of his abilities, while throwing in some great assists now and then.

RW- Jason Buertus
Age - 937
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 245 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slaps
Misc - A powerful shot that registers as the hardest show on the squad.

Defense Pair 1
LD- Omar Titenburg
Age - 764
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 187
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The younger cousin of former national teamer and current Marauder assistant manager Dwier Titenburg. While not the scoring threat of Dwier, he has his cousins talent and then some when it comes to shutting down forwards.

RD- Martin Koula (A)
Age - 1066
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 179
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A prolific scoring threat from the blue line, his skills and expirence have the crafty d-man being the first assistant.

Defense Pair 2
LD- Talil Reton
Age - 874
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot -slap
Misc - A late addition to the squad who just recieved citizenship in the ESF three weeks ago. On the ice, he is as solid as any other blue liner, but lacks the expierence Omar and Martin have in the EHL.

RD- Narko Lilaim (A)
Age - 1166
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 174 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - Has a wicked wrister that enables this otherwise average defencemen to take the other assistant spot, and squeak on from the third pair to the second.

Defense Pair 3
LD- Yomo Kamotomi
Age - 947
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 163 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - This agile defender has all the makings of a great player, but something is missing. Perhaps it's personailtiy, or perhaps he is still suffering from an ankle injury that killed his season in the EHL two seasons ago. Whatever it is, he slides from the seocnd pairing to the third.

RD- Damien Millar
Age - 988
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 200 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - A decent defender who does his job quietly.

Starting Goaltender
Marty Wardell
Age - 1099
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 215 lbs
Style - butterfly

Back up Goaltender
Patrick Igudala
Age - 955
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 220
Style - stand up

Squornshelous
09-04-2007, 05:16
Deep in the unlit bowels of the Squornshelan Department of Sport, two men were locked in desperate combat. They moved fluidly, parry and thrust, until. . .

"Goal!!!"

Alexei Kharkovsk reached for the air horn at his feet and let out a blast across the air hockey table.

"In your face!"

At the other end, Hannes Pitkanen glared murderously at his opponent and colleague.

"I hate you."

Before the situation could devolve to violence, the battered television set atop a stack of pizza boxes finished up a beer commercial and captured both mens' attention.

"In sports news, the World Cup still hasn't started yet, but Squornshelous won't be completely idle in international sports," bubbled an overly made up news anchor. "Our country has entered in the second World Cup of Hockey, bringing back memories of the old Cherry Cup."

The rest of the newscast was lost in a series of wild whoops and some particularly disturbing dance moves. Alexei and Hannes were, you see, the President and Vice President of the Squornshelan Hockey Association. They were the secretary, receptionist, delivery boy, and every other position in the SHA as well for that matter. But suddenly, they had a job to do for the first time in quite a while. It was highly typical that they wouldn't be informed of this sort of thing, but that was because usually this sort of thing wasn't happening. They somehow managed to conjure a few sheets of paper and a pen that still had just enough ink to write with and began going over names.

"This tourney is only a few days off!" exclaimed Hannes loudly, "How the hell are we supposed to have a team ready by then?!"

"Write down more names on this paper," Alexei suggested, "I can't remember any more defenders who live here."

Eventually the two managed to produce this:

FORT EUROPE ICE HOCKEY TEAM

For some extremely weird reason the Commonwealth Sports Council have decided to allow this highly dangerous sport to continue, and therefore the national team are back for the second Hockey world cup on Ice. Strangely enough no one new fancied joining the team, so the squad will remain the same... some had to be payed large amounts of money in order to convince them to come back, but they will all be present for a second attempt at winning this converted trophy. The Sports Council are however refusing to allow the team to play in the stadium pending a second health and safety inspection, so for the time being the finished stadium sits empty while the team will have to play their home matches on a frozen lake in the Ascama mountain range. On the upside, the lake has been marked out with official markings this time, and a perspex barrier erected around the outside, though nothing could be done for the occasional cracks that are starting to appear as the ice thins.

The Squornshelan hockey team had miraculously been assembled without much in the way of serious incidents, and was now waiting at Vogsphere Aerodrome for their flight to Quakmybush. Certainly not a moment too soon, as their first game was tomorrow. Alexei Kharkovsk and Hannes Pitkanen were also in attendance. They were going along to watch the tournement, and in the quite likely event that the coach didn't show, they would be in charge of the team.

It's important to note at this point that the coach's absenteeism would be by no means his fault.

"Where is he?" Kharkovsk asked as he paused from pacing back and forth over the same three feet of floor he'd been wearing down for the past two hours.

"Perhaps he didn't get the letter. I was never entirely sure how to spell his name." Pitkanen replied.
"What?"
"Well I sent out a half dozen or so, just to be sure."
"This is absurd, let's just get on the plane."

At that moment, a short, stocky man with a face that had obviously had several of it's bones broken several times in several places in several different ways walked up to the group. He had a duffel bag slung over his shoulder and a battered jacket the read "Squornshelous Ferrets Cherry Cup 15" across the front. He was a man who'd played on more Cherry Cup teams and logged more international ice time than any other person on the face of the Earth. He was a man whose name had been spelled differently ever time he'd been named to a roster.

He was, the legendary (in Squornshelous at least) Petr Crzjgrdwldiwdc.

He was unceremoniously hustled aboard the ancient Ford Trimotor that had been dragged unwilling from its hangar to ferry a bunch of hockey players to some country or other. If the plane were capable of caring for its task, it wouldn't have. As it was, the pilot didn't particularly care for the task either, but he was getting paid, and that was a different story. The plane lifted off and began laboring its way in the general direction of Quakmybush.

The LancasterCounty Crusaders (a name voted on by the players) landed in Quackmybush a day before their first official game. Most of the team has never been outside of LancasterCounty and thus could be seen snapping snapshots at everything.

As they drove from the airport, they passed the hockey rink that they are going to be played on and no one snapped a picture as they stared at it.

"Take a look gentlemen. This is the international stage that you are all on now. The people back home are counting on you to do a terrific job and God willing, we will show these pros just how to play this game."

Everyone whooped and hollard at the statement and began to sing the National Anthem (I'll think of something later :D) as they continue their treck to the hotel.

Upon arrival, the team filed out of the bus and proceeded inside to find their rooms and to settle in. Once they were done unloading the bus, they drove over to the nearest Cathedral for a prayer service by the team chaplain Alan Patton.

The Ice was starting to get familiar for this team that usually played on Astro-turf. They managed to not only become proficient, well to certain degree, in skating but also started to learn the finer points of the game. Such as violent checking and actually playing behind the goal.

The Bazalonians started fairly weak, it was their first game of Ice hockey internationaly for some time, since WCoH 1. The first period was relatively quiet and had the team once again get into the flow of the match. Kampferian offense had a few chances but the puck never went into the net. This period was quite boring apart from a few comical mistakes by the Bazalonians, however none of them gave their opponents entry into the net.

The second period the Bazalonians scored goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods.

After the match...

"I don't think I'm ever going to get used to skating..." said one of the players.

"O, boo hoo, I'm surprised we got 4 goals. I think maybe perhaps we should go professional Ice hockey and leave Field behind."

"Are you serious?!"

"Yeah, I mean, how long has it been since we played a field hockey match internationally?"

"Um..... Olympics?"

"Correction, Summer Olympics, all that time ago."

"The second summer Olympics are coming up."

"Oh, whopee."

"Yeah, I agree there is more action here in Ice Hockey. I'm starting to enjoy myself."

"Okay, after this tournament is over. We'll vote on it... But I don't think we should."

"I''ll agree to that."

A general nod of approval was given by the vast silent majority giving their assent to this. All there was to do now was do what they could to prepare for their upcoming match.

Size Matters

Going into the match against the humble gnomes of Az-cz, the elves pondered if their oppenents could even effectively play the game given their size and stature. The gnomes were short and somewhat bottom heavy compared to the elves who were tall and slender. With such contrasting physical make ups, it would seem that the game should be a far outreach in the descrepency of ability to play the game. However, the gnomes would play far beyond that which would of been expected, and lead the proud Calcuttas three to nil going into the final frame. The stalwart little gnomes thought they were going to enter the hockey scene by taking down the second best squad in the world, and send tidal waves through the entire competition. Unfortunately for the Gnomes, you have to play all sixty minutes, not just the first forty.

The Calcuttas got what they needed to start the comeback, as Rochest sent the checking line out to start the final period. Orealus won the faceoff, and Millar gathered it in, and dumped it into the far corner. Almonte outworked the defender, and sent in a blind pass in front of goal. Kapenen was there, and the puck defeclted in, five hole on the goalie, to bring the Calcuttas within two. Some hard work by Osefrus along the boards in at the 8:39 mark, and the Calcuttas were at it again, as Liliam sent in a hard shot after recieving the Osefrus pass. The goalie made the save, but the rebound went straight to Tatum who was waiting in the slot, and he lifted it over the sprawling keeper, giving the squad some hope with half a period to play.

The first line began to click and with 5:34 left to go, Koula would one time a saucy pass from Omar off the pipe and in. Already level, the Calcuttas could sense the Gnomes were reeling and that victory was within their grasp. Into the final minute, and the 'Cuttas just could not break through the now steady keeping of the Az goalie. In frustration, Titenburg tried a foolish wrap around that went flying away, but Walker was there and fired it. The keeper had position, but the mispositioned Omar was there, and his wayward stick defelcted the puck just wide enough to nuzzle past the goalie and into the back of the net for the win.

Four games into the tournament and the Ferrets found themselves doing surprisingly well. Janne Kakko had been excelling as the teams goal-scoring leader with 5. His linemate and team captain Nieman Eloranta had been picking up assists left and right, and Raimo Haananen's goaltending had been good enough for the most part.

Game One:
The Ferrets came out pretty hot, leaping out to a two goal lead, on a Markko Niemi breakaway and an excellent one timer from the point by Evgeni Petrov, before the first period was half over. Another goal to open the second by Kakko seemed to blow the game wide open, but the Ghost Tigers fought back. They scored two before the second intermission to pull within one, but Squornshelous pulled it together during the break and came out shooting. Kakko notched his second goal, scoring on a wide open net after a crisp pass from Eloranta, who in turn recieved a feed from Lasse Kapanen. The Ghost Tigers scored again on a two-on-one opportunity, but Nikolai Koltsov secured the win with an empty netter.

Game Two:
Squornshelous dominated this matchup with Lovisa. Kakko once again earned first star of the game honors and notched a game winning goal. He kick started the Ferrets in the second after a superb performance by the Lovisan keeper in the first. By midway through the third, Squornshelous was up four to nil and backed off, allowing a soft goal with under three minutes left.

1st Star: SQU, Kakko (2 Goals +2)

Game Three:
Squornshelous faced a much more challenging opponent in our hosts, Quakmybush, and they played like one. For the first time, the Squornshelan forwards were pressured seriously by the opposing defense and more than a token forecheck was in place to keep our defensmen busy. However, the Ferrets were not too challenged by a stronger team and overwhelming home ice advantage to score, and put up enough to salvage one point, with Eloranta getting his first goal to tie the game at three midway through the third.

The Team had been going from strength to strength, 4 games in 4 games played and only the most recent match in which they drew against ESF did the team look anything other than strong.

"This is so fun, and we are doing so well too."

"I know, It's going to be hard going back to playing field hockey."

"Who says we have to?"

"You mean become full time Ice Hockey players?"

"Is there a market for it?"

"Well ,do well at this tournament and i'm sure we'd get enough press to embolden the small local league perhaps even start a national Ice Hockey league."

"But imagine the cost for Ice Rinks. It won't be that much, especially round Hughestown. That's where I'm from."

"Yes, we all know your from around that area. But what's with all these numbers. Especially 3.14 and 2.71?!"

"They're Pi and e!"

"Yes, I know but why, what sort of geek would give players numbers like these for there own amusement?"

"I dunno, Who was it that numbered us in the first place?"

"Wasn't it some guy called Baz?!"

"Oh, yeah, what a real inventive nickname. *rolls eyes*"

Anyway, well hopefully next time we'll have names.

Crunch Time

Well this is it, two fixtures left, and then the playoffs begin. The team has performed quite well, building on off of what they accomplished in the last tournament, with the only slip up coming off a talented Bazalonia team that currently tops the group. Even that dink in the armor was a four all draw, with Martin Fressis scoring an impressive hat trick and setting up Michael Walker on the power play with 1:13 left in the third to notch things at four a piece and secure the pivotal point. The squad was quite impressive in last night's demolition of Kampfers, taking home a six to two win, and some important goal differential assistance.

The team got contributions from all four lines in the impressive win, with Martin Fressis and Sergei Osefrus both netting a pair of goals,, with Jere Kapenen and Ricky Donomian both adding a goal. Koula played some impressive hockey, shutting down forwards every time he hit the ice, which is unusal for the offensive blue-liner. His partner on the line did exceptionally well , but was not as visable as Koula.

To be frank, the Calcuttas are really in the drivers seat here, as they are only a point behind with a game in hand for the group lead. If the team can get that extra point in the upcoming games, then they will be right back where the belong, back on top. While Bazalonia has been the pleasant surprise of the tournament, they have not the pedigree or talent to take the top spot out of this group, not while the Calcuttas can have a say about it.
With a long history of producing quality hockey players, this team is not only about defender last tournament's result, but also the honor of the elves and the country. They need to prove that we are a force to be reckoned with on any board, and that nothing can deter their will and destiny. Let the world know that they are elves, and there is no greater thing in the world to be prouder for than that.

Mr. Smith's laughter fills the boardroom at Qazox Hockey International.

" My plan is working almost to perfection. After that 5-1 win over what where they called?...Worchester Country?, Limburger Cowpatty?..ummm" Mr. Smith smuggly crowed.

"LancasterCounty..Sir" Mr. Jones said.

"Whoever they are, all we need now is a win correct? or if Fort Europe loses and we are into the next round... Gawddam what a great plan I had to use the best players from Hockey history!!" Mr. Smith laughed as he left the room.

"But... IT WAS MY IDEA..." Muttered Mr. Jones to himself, which of course everyone ignored.

Game Five:
Squornshelous came out for game five needing a win to get some seperation from the bottom half of the group. We got that win with a solid all around performance, resulting in a three to one score. The Ferrets got up early and hung on with some good goaltending from Anton Khabarovsk. Unfortunately, frustration and anger took control at the end of this one and four players from each side were sent to the dressing rooms early after a pair of fights. Coach Crzjgrdwldiwdc has ensured the press that Raimo Haananen's benching was not based on performance, but simply to rest him, and that he will return to the net for our last game of the round-robin.

Mr. Jones walked into Mr. Smith's office, holding the results sheet of the final group match..

"Um sir, we lost 2-1 to Kuczerica.. but we still made it through to the next round." Mr. Jones timidly spoke.

"WHAT We lost again??? Jones. That idea of yours sucked... but it's too late now.. send the team my best wishes.. yadda-yadda-yadda... And tell Ms. Jones i'ts time for my 3:00 erotic message..." Mr. Smith blankly replied.

"2nd in the table... not bad"

"Yeah we're pretty good at this game."

"It was only on GD that the Elves beat us on the top spot They had +12, we had +9."

"I wonder how the knock out stage will go"

"So we even know who we are going to face?""

"Nope but it's going to be a round of 16. I'm guessing third place from D, which would be Fort Europe, or 3rd from group B which is Squornshelous."

"How do you reckon our neighbours Az-cz and Milchama will go."

They're either up against Quakmybush or V & T or St. Pauls ISke and Qazox."

I think we could progress to the semis...

"Depending on the teams."

"Yes, depending, though we haven't actually lost a game."

"Neither have ESF, St Pauls Ilse, Quakmybush, Oliverry and Bettia. So that's six teams..."

"Well, we should make it to the Quarters..."

Game Six:
Squornshelous had already clinched a spot in the playoff rounds, but St. Samuel were fighting to catch Lovisa for the fourth and final spot from Group B. While St. Samuel came out playing hard, they didn't get the lucky bounces, and fell behind early due to some overly aggressive play. While they did manage to pull within one, the Ferret's defense stood tall, even when the extra attacker was brought out at the end. Looking back at the game and the rosters, it's amazing that St. Samuel got this far, because judging by their roster, which includes 3 goalkeepers, six defensemen, six forwards and six midfielders, they brought a football team to the ice.

Mr. Smith looked at the headlines containing the result of Qazox' 2-1 win over Az-cz in the Round of 16 at the 2nd World Cup of Hockey.

"Brilliant! My plans always work for the best.. by losing that last game, we've allowed the other opponents to think we're soft, but it's only a feint to draw them into the trap.. right guys?" He aked to the other members of QHI's board of directors.

"Say Sir, where is Mr. Jones?" asked one of the other boardmembers, a Mr. Smythe.

Mr. Balck had a quick answer, "He's in Quakistani or Quivermybush whatever third-rate country got stuck with hosting duties.. say isn't that Mr. Jones' brief......EXPLOSION

Defending Your Claim

Despite just minimal coverage of the second edition of the World Cup of Hockey, the nations team, the Calcuttas, have been performing admiradly. They went undefeated through the group stage, and despite the draw with Bazalonia, were able to top the group due to better goal differential. As a prize for their efforts, the squad got to take on the squad from Nitrodymium. The squad did get the victory, but it came with a terrible cost. Captain Michael Walker was crosschecked into the boards early in the second period, and had to be strechered off the ice. The ignitial thoughts were a broken fibula, but the x-rays have come back negative, and he will be undergoing further tests for the diagnosis during this week.

With the loss of their strong captain, and already down two goals, the 'Cuttas had to dig deep to get the victory. Sergei Osefrus showed why he has won a handful of MVPs in the EHL, as he elevated his already spectacular play to another level. With the fire under their scoring leader, the squad halved the deficit with 3:20 to go in the second on a power play. Titenburg slid it to Koula, who one timed a pass to Tatum. Joe fanned on the one timer, but Osefrus was right behind him and was able to elevate it over the mispositioned goalie.

The team came out very strong for the third, and Tatum was able to light the lamp just two minutes into the third to level things up. With the result anew, the team began to crunch Nitrodymium along the walls that lead to many bad passes. On one such attempt, Jere Kapenen was able to steal the attempt at the blue line for a one on one with the goalie. Jere faked a shot to the left, spun, and used his backhand to slide the puck easily into the open half of the net before crashing into boards after being tripped by the sliding stick of the keeper. The Nitrodymium squad couldn't get anything going in the remainder of the third, and the Calcuttas coasted to the victory.

Up next is the Qazox squad that has performed decently up to this point. The squad needs to be on their toes, and show the Ox why they were in the finals the last tournament. The squad hopes that they can progress into the next round, that way Walker might have the oppurtunity to come back and be productive in the knockout rounds. But for now, each line is going to have to play their best to make up for the man down, and be able to produce and move on into another Finals destiny, this time, with a title the result.

(OOC: the only team that has posted more than 10 times losing to a team that has posted 4 times?... Damn Margaret.. should won this thing in a walk...mumbles to self)

Mr. Jones stood at the podium waiting to use the speech he had prepared for the last 4 years..

"It is with a sad and heavy heart, that I have to announce that QHI has lost the majority of its boardmembers in that unfotunate gasline explosion inside of QHI headquarters yesterday. As the sole surviving member of the board, and the fact that Mr. Smith left no will or decendents, I have assumed control of the company. The team was informed of the tragedy just before their match with ESF today. Despite the team's best efforts, they lost to the Calcuttas 3-1, ending their quest for the Cup. I will do my best to ensure the team will be competitive over the next few years and we will win the Cup. Once again I am shocked and saddened by the loss of my coworkers and friends, thank you and have a good night."

Once off the stage, a laugh that chilled most people to the bone began filling the arena.....

"Okay, I gotta go I need to see my Wife we've got a special thing planed."

"What sort of thing"

"I... don't know. It's a surprise."

"Well ... See you guys later, for practice."

"Oh, hi, Hun. Sorry I'm later. I got held up."

"Don't worry, you are right on time." She said, smiling almost beaming. "I have wonderful news to tell you... I'm... We are... Pregnant. I saw a doctor here and yes, it's confirmed... I'm 8 weeks."

"Wow... me, a father... You, a mother....."

"Do you... want it?!"

"OF course I do... I love you and I love anything to do with you."

"But what about your burgeoning Ice Hockey Career?!"

"We'll cope. first question is how are we going to get you home? You certainly are not flying. We'll find a ferry.. There should be one."

"Darling... I don't know how I would do this without you."

"Well, you won't have to find out."

Round of Sixteen:
A thriller of a game from Quakmybush, as the Ferrets topped Oliverry in overtime on an off-target shot by Markko Niemi that Per Gothberg managed to deflect around the Oliverry goalkeeper. He game itself was a hard fought, but cleanly played affair for the most part. The other Ferret goals came from Sammi Pirjieta and Janne Kakko, who seems to have found his form once again after a little trouble scoring in the middle of the first round. Both goaltenders performed admirably under barrages of shots, but Haananen was just a hair better than his counterpart, and Squornshelous advances to the quarterfinals.

Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold

Well after a thorough smashing of the squad from Qazox, the Calcuttas are bestowed the oppurtunity to defeat the one of the two squads whom they merely only drew with during the group stage. The Bazalonians were granted their same oppurtunity after they were able to escape a bout with Milchama, with a final score of three to two. Despite the enourmous respect that the Elves have for the Atlantian Oceania nation, the squad will not spare the Bazalonia squad any physical play. Indeed, it seems as if the prospect of taking down one of the most respected nations in the ESF has lifted the spirits of the squad, and have them bristiling with energy. Good news comes from the trainers that captain Michael Walker will be able to return to the line up, after he was diagnosed with a mild sprain and has since recovered from the injury. However, skeptical about how fit the captain is, the manager has placed him on the second line and will have Joe Tatum be the center for the first line unless changes are needed during the game.

Not only is the squad fired up over the Bazalonia factor, but the oppurtunity to reach back to back finals is giving the squad the eagerness that is often seen in champions. With defending champions eleminated last round, it will be up to the Calcuttas to show that the first edition of the World Cup of Hockey was no fluke, and that there is plenty of talent in the ESF to have them become a powerhouse to be dealt with for Cups to come. This means that the squad needs to take care of business tonight. The Bazalonians have a potent offence, and Omar and Koula will need to be the shutdown defencemen they are not noted for being. The entire defence pairings need to be on their A game while all four lines to be productive. Teamplay, not invidual talent, is the key to winning, and that is what the Calcuttas are out to prove. Be warned Bazalonia, the elves are out to send a message!

Quarterfinal:
Squornshelous came out a little slow, giving up the first period lead, but they managed to survive a penalty kill late in the first and played much better for the rest of the game. Erik Vikernes tied it up with his first goal of the tournament in the second, and captain Niemen Eloranta tallied the game winner with less than two minutes remaining. The Ferrets held off the frantic attacks for the next minute and a half for the win. Beating the hosts on their home ice is a huge step for a team just returning to the international stage after quite some time away. This is huge.

Semifinal:
The Ferrets were revenged on Vilita and Turori for their defeat at that team's hands in the first round. Squornshelous jumped out to an early two goal lead, and defended well from that point out. V & T put together a very good attack, but suspect goaltending early left them in too big a hole to climb out of.

Bazalonia makes Ice Hockey History.

Despite having no real culture of Ice Hockey in the nation the Bazalonian Ice Hockey team in the World Cup of (Ice) Hockey had not only blown away any and all expectations but has entered the World Cup of (Ice) Hockey Finals against Squornshelous.

The Bazalonian team bettered the team from Elves Security Forces in a close match. The Elves took the lead approximately half-way through the First period, great set up by the forwards saw the Bazalonian defense stumpped and unable to respond, resulting in a 0-1 scoreline. The game was generally fairly even with both showing gimplses of the brilliance that took them too the Semi-finals, but neither team were able to get through their opponents defense.

Despite a physical game neither side could get an advantage and it took an Elven mistake for the Bazalonians to capitlise upon and equalise the score. This occuredin the 2nd minute of the final period, to loud cheers from the Bazalonian fans and crys of dismay from the Elves. Despite frantic last minute effort the score remained tied and the match went into over time.

This time the elves left nothing to chance being even more aggressive pressing the Bazalonians but still failing to get past the line and into the net despite a close call which was saved by the Bazalonian Keeper.

As the Over time wore on number 12, the centre, saw an open oppurtinity on the Right Wing, with #19 engaged with Martin Koula he went and took the oppurtunity himself going up the right wing and passing it into #11 who came in in a classic field hockey move to the centre scoring the goal right under the stick of Marty Wardell.

This is not only the first time that Bazalonia has been in the final for the World Cup of (Ice) Hockey but indeed the first time Bazalonia has been nationally any good at the sport. In the Final they will face Squornshelous , a team that finished third in their group but have shown their worth by knocking out Oliverry. It is uncertain who will will out of the two teams but this will be a World Cup of (Ice) Hockey that will not be forgotten.

In related news. The Bazalonian Ice Hockey Association has been formed to co-ordinate both national leagues and with representing the nation 's Ice hockey players internationally.
