Zwangzug
30-03-2007, 21:00
Sam Hartnett, from the popular show Ricelands and Nicelands of Zwangzug Broadcasting (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Zwangzug_Broadcasting), is compiling an international database of the highest mountains in the world, with hopes to film a documentary of flyovers or even join a climbing expedition.

Please submit the heights and other relevant details of your nation's significant mountains here.

Example: Mount Pittan: 16,384 feet (4,994 meters). First summited by Chelsea Longfellow and Bernard Hatch.

OOC: I think a good international RP could spring off of this: anyone who's read Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air might know what I'm getting at.
Fort Europe
30-03-2007, 22:21
The Commonwealth's highest peak is Mount Antoinette, a dormant volcano located in the Ascama Province of Fort Europe with it's summit currently at 8,532 ft. above MSL. The summit was reached first by geologist John Cortez of Sirus City, Fort Europe, who named the volcano after his fiancé. The last eruption was approximately 750 cycles ago.

OOC: Hope that is what you were looking for.

Olympus-Mons
31-03-2007, 06:28
Although it may be excluded due to foolish geocentric bias, the High Kingdom is justifiably proud of it's highest point, great Olympus Mons. At 88,585 feet high, it is the largest mountain in the Solar system, and the heart of the High Kingdom's domains - for which it has earned the name Kaia-i-Kaasei, translating roughly to "Heart of the World" - a title it shares with the High King himself.

It was first scaled by Ruthven Anderson Blake in -265 Anno Regis.
Brutland and Norden

Two, actually, with almost the same height.

Mount Bianco (4,033m) located in the grants of Nevade and Montesa, in Brutland. First recorded ascent by Stefano Ricagliamenti and Simon di Montova, Duke of Montova, on July 14, 1785.

Mount Pannondrio (4,019m) located in the grant of Pannondrio, also in Brutland. Summit has been reached by the inhabitants of Pannondrio Valley since antiquity as a rare species of medicinal plant grow on the snowy top.

Both are actually extinct volcanoes.
Bazalonia
31-03-2007, 10:38
Mt Hughes, is the highest in Bazalonia, not especially high at 2,964m tall. The first person to climb it is unknown as it had been climbed many times before even someone tried to claim it. Perhaps there is some sort of artifact that could actually identify the first people to climb it?
Strator
31-03-2007, 14:59
In the middle of the "Forehead" of the Strator skull is Mt.Gragashderslaginderbaadyaakudpa (Translated is: The home of the hopeless who follow no path). It stands at a colossal 31,568 feet and is in the middle of a long mountain range stretching across the width of Strator. It used to be a volcano but the crater collapsed in on itself and was covered with thick concrete and steel. The magma is channelled through pipes every time there is an eruption to turn some turbines and creates an effective power supply for the facility.

HISTORICAL FACT:

It got its name from the facility at the peak which used to be a "Last Hope" practicutioner. It is currently used as an Observatory
Menelmacar
31-03-2007, 22:19
Taniquetil, overlooking our capital city of Vinyatírion, with a total height of 9742 m. The Prefecture of Imperial Defense and Homeland Security has its headquarters facility in a hardened cavern deep under the mountain.

Fun fact: The vast mountain 'bowl' in which Vinyatírion is situated is speculated to be the remnants of a long-extinct 'supervolcano' which exploded in a titanic eruption many millions of years ago. Taniquetil is believed to be merely a shoulder of this ancient, great mountain. Today the region has geologically settled down greatly, and many of the underground caverns and catacombs have been modified and gravitically fortified to shunt and reroute the few eruptions away from the city.

Being trained as a scientist and an engineer, arbitrary numbers bug me. That's why I dug this (ias.ac.in/jarch/jaa/2/165-169.pdf) up.
