OOC: Seeking advice

New Reman

I would kind of like to play with establishing a fascist state something not unlike Nazi Germany simply because, from time to time, who doesn't like to play the villian? The problem is, I don't really want to simply scrap and redo my peaceful New Reman in order to do it (It's more of a reflection of my own views), but new nations start out so weak as to put it at a grave disadvantage when it comes to role playing.

So I ask the more experienced amongst us here: What's the best course of action to take?

I don't think this is the right forum for this, but....

I'd just say go ahead and start a new nation and just ignore the NS stuff. In most RPs the NS stuff never comes up. If you're playing in an RP where it would matter than just point them to your another nation and explain the situation. And if they don't want to allow them then look for another RP where the players aren't doorknobs.

The unfortunate problem is that size DOES seem to matter in the International Incidents area when it comes to all number of matters.

OOC: Sorry if it sounds a little sarcastic (I'm not trying to be mean, honest :( ) but this is where the OOC Planning and Interest Thread and the Closed IC thread become your friends :D

And, I used smilies. Someone take a gun and shoot me please.

If it's size you're worried about, there's always the option of taking up someone elses old nation, or extra nation - many have some laying about, and folks pop up on occasion wanting to pawn one off or the like.

A word of caution however - you inherit the history when you do that, with rp and rules-breaking and all the rest, so have a care when researching that you don't get a lemon or one that is going to cause you grief down the road.

If you're going to want to play 'the bad guy', you're right - size is probably going to be an issue due to inevitable warring and conflicts that will come up. You can either be patient and take your time building, trying to rp with folks closer to your preferred level of play, or take your chances with more open play, or as I mentioned, try and find an older one that's up for grabs.

Even when I started there were much bigger nations, and there always will be. You'll get various takes on how best to play it, how to handle the numbers game and all the wanking that gets dredged up on account. All I can offer is to try and have fun with it, whichever track you decide to take. You won't have everyone agreeing with you whatever you do, whether you go by size, declare your own size, go by stats, or ignore them, or what have you. There's been people who've started over so to speak with a new nation, and taken the stats and pop from their old one to do what you're doing. Some get a lot of grief over it, some get it accepted. Again, another option I suppose, depending on how you want to play.

Don 't know if any of this helps, but hope it gives you some idea of where you might want to go with solving your dilema. Good luck!

I'd say create a fresh nation. Build it up gradually. It won't take long for your 5 million nation to grow into a 50 million nation.
