Hosting Bid: The Information

Who?

..:: The Lowland Clans::..
The Lowland Clans is a storied nation in international football. Currently the nation with the longest participating record and one of the oldest nations taking part in the World Cup, but despite all of that, they have never won a World Cup. The closest they’ve ever come is the two fourth place finishes in WC XII and WCxXxII. Having hosted World Cup xXxI, they represent a goodly amount of history and understanding about how this tournament works.

..:: Elves Security Force ::..
ESF has had some hosting experience at the regional level. This will be his sixth tournament and has become familiar with the nooks and cranies and the inner workings of this joint. A strong believer in active media and fanbase participation. The nation is an easy going nation that loves two things, footy and pursuing higher education. The citizens are generally friendly and are the perfect hosts, providing a great football atmosphere as well as supplying a bottle of wine with every meal, and really, who can argue with that?

What?

..:: Scorinator ::..
The ESLC bid will using the VSS scorinator developed and used in WC xXxI. The real thing, not the VSSfree that has been used with the recent cups, but the real actual thing, meaning scores and tables will be available within mere minutes of RP counting. You’ll also be able to see cool score formatting, which is always cool.

..:: Format ::..
To ensure the ease of use with the VSS scorinator, we have set the group size at 10 groups with 10 teams in those groups, totalling the number of participants at 100. While this may seem like a lot, especially how few participants we’ve had in the recent Cups, we feel as hosts that it’s key that we try to recruit new members into the fold. Standard home and away

When?

Hopefully not too long after the conclusion of WC xXxIv Baptism of Fire and the release of the newest KPB rankings. The scheduled plan is to have one matchday per real day during qualifying, having a halfway break of two matchdays, and then resuming with nin matchdays until the end of qualification. The next day will be the draw, and then a bye day for people to get their RPs in, and then a matchday every other day until the completion of the World Cup.

City International Stadium
Capacity: 110,000

The Allied States finest stadium, City International is considered the epitome of stadium design in the Allied States. The second largest in the country, the accoustics were specifically designed to increase noise level, meaning that most opposing teams struggle in this building. The concessions are also considered some of the best deals period.

Limassol Memorial Stadium
Capacity: 90,000

Built as a memorial to the soldiers who died fighting for Cyprussian independance, several galleries are dedicated to the history of the island and the war to free it from Abu-Dhabi Khristatatan tyranny. A moment of silence is held before each game to commerorate the freedom received thanks to the soldiers of the Allied States.

Nicosia City Square
Capacity: 50,000

One of the most unique stadia around, the acutal pitch is situated in the center of the city's downtown core, and is ground level and sits in the middle of the major thoroughfares of the city. When official matches are played, the thoroughfares are cleared and terraces placed all around the field, and the surrounding buildings have transformed themselves into open-aired restaurants with in house announcers and excellent food and views of the field.

The Island
Capacity 75,000

The Island is a tropical, open air stadium built on the Island of Madeira, and considered one of the best overall stadia in the nation. Excellent groundskeeping, great football, excellent, well-lit halls and field, and location mean that win or lose, everyone loves spending a day at the Island.

Why?

This is probably the most important question that should be asked of a bid. So why are we here? Well, I (TLC) am here because absolutely loved hosting in World Cup xXxI. It was a great experience made only greater by those who participated in the tournament. That is the big reason why I want to host again. But this time, the scene is radically different. Many of the long time veterans are leaving, or losing interest. The VSS has had a lasting impact on how Cups are scorinated. New teams are rising to the top. It’s been a wild ride, and it’s time we simply let it rest for a while and soak in the enjoyment that’s to be had from a cup. No worrying, no complaining, just having fun, being creative and a trophy at the end of the rainbow. But that shouldn’t be the only reason you sign up. So before you launch into your rant about how you deserved to win or what not, just remember: they’re numbers. On the internet. Should you really get all worked up over it? Probably not. Like the RL NHL, the WC and the surrounding tournaments are going through a lot of change, so this hosting bid will let the dust settle, see where things stand, and have a good time while we’re at it.

Currently Sign-ups are at 77 . Which would require another 25 people for a full 10x10 + 2 hosts group.

What's going to happen if you can only get 98(12 groups), 92(10 groups or 15 groups), 86 (12 groups), 82(10 groups) or 77(15 groups)?

If the 10 x 10 number isn't reached, we'll get the highest number of ten-team groups we can get. Because VSS is set up for doing groups of 10, it's just much easier that way.

I've been actively trying to get people to at least signup...I got one, maybe two.

Could you explain how you'd do qualifying for draws with 72, 82, and 92 teams?

That would be 7X10, 8X10, and 9X10. Plus Hosts.

Well, the same way it would be done with the others. Shrink the number of pools to accomodate the number of teams that are in it. Much easier than re-writing the code for the various group sizes.

I give my support to my young friend and fellow region member ESF and his associate TLC in this bid recognising the potential to put The YoungWorld football firmly on the NS world map.

As for the debate over group sizes and qualification, I don't think it matters how many teams go into each group, or how many from each group qualify automatically as long as thirty two teams end up in the WC Finals fairly. It does however make it easier if all the groups are the same size, though not even this is compulsory as it doesn't happen in RL.

TLC,

What I meant was, how would the qualifying procedures be done?

Let's say that there are 82 teams, leaving 80 for qualifiers. That would be 8 groups of 10. No number of automatic qualifiers works. 3 from each group would be 24, leaving 6 extra spots, and 4 from each group would be 32, two too many. So how would you do the extra spots?

Use our method of top 12 point getters go to playoffs? Give them to the 6th best fourth place teams? 4 spots to the top 4 fourth place teams and playoffs for the last four? Clearly there are a lot of ways you could do this. I am curious what methods you'd choose.

So I ask again, how would qualifying work for 72, 82 and 92 teams?

Seeing as how we're above 72, I'll ignore that scenario.

92: with 9 groups, the top three fourth place finishers to go straight through.

82: with 8 groups, same thing, but six instead of three.
