Second International Futsal Tournament

Achtung! You have stumbled upon a sign-up thread.

Welcome to the Second International Futsal Tournament, the successor the the not-so-popular First International Futsal Tournament (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=444244). Fortunately for the world, the Empire of the Golden Throne (The Macabees) has come out of its War of Golden Succession, which has claimed hundreds of millions of lives on both sides, and is now prepared to go through a cultural revolution - including the hosting of more international sports related extravaganzas!

What is Futsal, you ask?

Futsal is the indoor version of association football (soccer) that is officially sanctioned by football's international governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), as well as the Asociacion Mundial de Futsal (AMF). Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão, which means roughly room soccer (salão means "large room").

Futsal is played between two teams of 5 players, one of which is the goalkeeper; in addition each team may have a number of substitutes. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the field is delimited by lines, and not nets or boards which the ball may be played off.

Other forms of indoor football games, which are played by somewhat different rules, exist and may be referred to as indoor football, five-a-side football or indoor soccer. Those games predate the formulation of official rules of futsal.

The rules are as follows:

There is no off sides, however, the goalkeeper cannot hold the ball for more than five seconds outside the area. He must either drive it to the other half of the field, or pass it.
There are three cards: Yellow, Blue and Red. Yellow signifies an intentional foul, while blue is two yellow cards. A blue card evicts the player from the game for one game only, and the player can be replaced immediately. The red card is given after a certain number of yellow cards, normally decided by the ref, and the player is evicted for the game, and he cannot be replaced for said game.
You cannot wear cleats. Futsal soccer shoes are completely cleatless, and have a leather bound at the front to reinforce the toes, which receive the most damage.
The golie cannot pass the ball to the other half of the field without the ball bouncing at least once on his own side.
Six fouls in one part (of two parts) is a double penalty kick, without a wall.

Each half lasts twenty-five minutes, and the field is the size of a basketball court, but with all the lines standard to an eleven-on-a-side game; just miniaturized. The games are quick paced, and there is very little in the way of defensive play - it's mostly agressive. There are other tricks to playing the game, but they are tricks not rules, that nations will have to learn with experience.

Qazox is interested in Futsal and will send a team, but is unsure of the number to send. (what's an average number...and this is mostly like MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League.. i loved the MISL.. but with clear out of bounds instead of walls right?)

Teams on the field are 5 strong - 4 on the field, 1 in the goal box. Non-proffessional teams that I've seen normally have around 10-15 players total. Depends, I guess, on if you believe you're going to need to replace players due to injuries and what not. There are clear out of bounds at least in the town I play, but this isn't professional futsal (we'll assume there are clear out of bounds). The game is different than indoor soccer mosly because of th speed the game is played. For example, you normally shoot with your toes, not with your laces. If I had my shoes with me (they're in Spain) I would take a photograph of what the shoes look like - they're padded with more leather at the toes. Shooting with your toes is faster, giving the goalie less time to react.
Cafundeu
15-03-2007, 00:41
Cafundéu will sign-up, as futsal is very played in the country.

(this is a very popular game here in Brazil, of course)
Magnus Valerius
15-03-2007, 01:37
Valerians have little idea what 'futsal' is, but they will try to send a team nonetheless of the few amateurs who know what futsal is. Ironically, a good chunk of those people are foreigners that happened to show support for a Valerian futsal team.
