Calcutta Roster
Manager: Luaf Rochest

Scoring Line 1
LW - Bill Clemens
Age - 1280
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 189 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - Bill prefers to dish off to his line mates than take the shot himself, and is the fastest person on the squad.

C - Michael Walker (C)
Age - 1075
Height - 6'3"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - Is the clutch playmaker on the squad, serving on the first power play and penalty kill, as well as being the second shooter when it comes to a shootout.

RW - Martin Fressis
Age - 972
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 198 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - A goal scorer born and raised, lead the EHL in goals the last three seasons. Serves on the 1st power play and is the first shooter in shootouts.

Scoring Line 2
LW- Niko Defriance
Age - 866
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrister
Misc - This winger is defensive minded, always dropping to the ice to block opposing shots and doing all the little things that frustrate opposing forwards. He is deceptively fast, and is on the second power play and first penalty kill.

C- Joe Tatum
Age - 1026
Height - 6'4"
Weight - 210 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The muscle of the squad, willing to do it all for the squad, and gets alot of "dirty" goals off a rebounds and tip ins. Centers the second power play line.

RW- Sergei Osefrus
Age - 1043
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 202 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The other pure goal scorer on the squad, second only in skill to Martin when it comes to finding ways to break keepers down. Unlike Martin though, Sergei also has an eye for setting up his teammates, that has allowed him to lead the EHL in points the last five seasons, even when he is not getting the most goals. Plays on the second power play, second penalty kill, and is the third shooter in shootouts.

Checking Line 1
LW- Jere Kapenen
Age - 765
Height - 5'9"
Weight - 176 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - backhand
Misc - A good balance of defence and offence mixed in this small forward who plays twice as big as he is. Defences hate it when he charges at them with his excellent dekeing skills.

C- Marcus Orealus
Age - 846
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 206
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The most physical and aggressive elf on the squad, who has lead the league in penalty minutes and five minute majors the last two seasons. However, he is the best face off man the squad has.

RW- Daniel Almonte
Age - 754
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 186 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - Just a pure physical checker that gets in and fights in the corners and in front of the net.

Checking Line 2
LW- Will Marcus
Age - 820
Height - 6'0"
Weight - 221
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A body builder in his off time, this lad is a mammoth of an elf, who will take on any body, and leave them battered and bruised after every match despite the outcome.

C- Ricky Donomian
Age - 945
Height - 6'2'
Weight - 197
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A late bloomer in talent, who normally would center a second or third line if not for how stacked the squad is at that position. Uses his frame to the best of his abilities, while throwing in some great assists now and then.

RW- Jason Buertus
Age - 936
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 245 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot - slaps
Misc - A powerful shot that registers as the hardest show on the squad.

Defense Pair 1
LD- Omar Titenburg
Age - 763
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 187
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - The younger cousin of former national teamer and current Marauder assistant manager Dwier Titenburg. While not the scoring threat of Dwier, he has his cousins talent and then some when it comes to shutting down forwards.

RD- Martin Koula (A)
Age - 1065
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 179
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - A prolific scoring threat from the blue line, his skills and expirence have the crafty d-man being the first assistant.

Defense Pair 2
LD- Talil Reton
Age - 873
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - right
Prefered Shot -slap
Misc - A late addition to the squad who just recieved citizenship in the ESF three weeks ago. On the ice, he is as solid as any other blue liner, but lacks the expierence Omar and Martin have in the EHL.

RD- Narko Lilaim (A)
Age - 1165
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 174 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - Has a wicked wrister that enables this otherwise average defencemen to take the other assistant spot, and squeak on from the third pair to the second.

Defense Pair 3
LD- Yomo Kamotomi
Age - 946
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 163 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - wrist
Misc - This agile defender has all the makings of a great player, but something is missing. Perhaps it's personailtiy, or perhaps he is still suffering from an ankle injury that killed his season in the EHL two seasons ago. Whatever it is, he slides from the seocnd pairing to the third.

RD- Damien Millar
Age - 987
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 200 lbs
Shoots - left
Prefered Shot - slap
Misc - A decent defender who does his job quietly.

FORT EUROPE ICE HOCKEY TEAM

Due to the fact that this new Hockey on Ice game has never been played before in the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Sports Council was tasked with creating a national side out of volunteers who would be capable of competing on a national level. Tim Lessinger was chosen to manage the team as one of the most experienced Football managers in the Commonwealth, while his two coaches come from the Commonwealth (Field) Hockey League. As for the players themselves, the team has been made up of players with sporting experience either in the highly competitive Commonwealth Football Leagues, the Hockey League as we imagine this to be a very similar sport. They have also been joined by a couple of players taken from the Commonwealth Armed Forces with specialisations in dealing with ice and snow as this could expertise could prove important to the teams success.

The Commonwealth Sports Council are busy building a stadium for the team to play in, but work will not be completed until after the opening match day so the team will play it's early group matches on a frozen lake in the mountains of Ascama Province. A national kit is also being worked on and will be announced soon, though is expected to be made up of extremely warm layers of thermal clothing as the people of the Commonwealth generally have a low tolerance of the cold, which explains why they haven't tried this game before. Manager Tim Lessinger has since his appointment given the team some training in the sport, which included a week in ESF studying the rules and regulations of the sport and picking up some useful tips. Lessinger did announce on the teams return that having watched the sport he was rather confused by the need to substitute players every thirty seconds, and would not be making any substitutions in the first half of their matches unless it was due to injury, saying the concept was ridiculous as players barely had a chance to warm up and get into the game before being brought off again for someone new.

Swilatia

This is an
SBC News Alert!

Jawalski: So, soon, the first world cup hockey, and by that I mean Ice Hockey, will begin. Swilatia's ice hockey team will be in this, and I will be telling you guys about our country's team, as well as the tournament itself. But i'm not really sure if you will actually care.

Wiadzase: Wait... Swilatia has an ice hockey team?? Why would Swilatia have an ice hockey team?? Hallo, do we really need to have a team for a sport that has no poulartiy in our country? I mean, i've heard SBC Dwa, the counrty's sport channel, is really thinking f not roadcasticting this tournament. Not even swilatia's matches. Not even highlits from Swilatian matches. Why? because no-one in Swilatia cares about ice hockey.

Jawalski: Well, I just said Ice Hockey is not popular. Sadly, that leaves us with an inexperienced team that will probably do rather poorly in the tournament. However, at least Swilatians won't care about that, so the team will not be as much of an embarassment to our country. Now let's see the player line-up.

Wiadzase: I don't think many Swilatians will care.

Jawalski: Just post it!

Wiadzase: Fine, as soon as I find it. the Ice Hockey team's website will prolly be just too deep in this search, because no-one cares abou ice hockey here in Swilatia.

OOC: Lineup to be posted later.
Az-cz
04-03-2007, 13:31
Az-cz roster:

The Gnomes are submitting the same roster that has put up good performances but just fallen short of medals in the last Aglukark-Cherry Cup and the Winter Olympics held in Commerce Heights JSY.

Coach: Carlos Kronen

Carlos immigrated to Az-cz and was the one to first teach the sport to the Gnomes. He's getting on in years but is more than ready to lead the team as it challenges the rest of the world.

All offensive lines are listed in the order of LW-C-RW

Offensive Line 1:

Hey-Dk, Sk-Ik, Dru-Ri

The offensive line 1 is the main offensive line on the team. Sk-Ik is a brilliant center and Hey-Dk and Dru-Ri both have strong shots and good skills.

Offensive Line 2:

No-Lan, Dmp-Hs, Mar-Lo

The second offensive line is the second scoring line.

Offensive Line 3:

So-Lo, Tu-Fst, Stm-Na

The third line is a line based on their athleticness. They have incredible speed and stamina and are often used to cause trouble to other teams and wear down their players by flying around the ice. Also very dangerous on quick shifts.

Offensive Line 4:

Jaromir Fedorenko, Teemu Nordquist, Kng-Kng

The fourth line is the checking line. With two big non native Az-czzers and a big stout Az-czzer in Kng-Kng this line can really lay down the damage. If another team has a pretty boy center that needs to be knocked down a peg, this is the line to do it.

Defensive Line 1:

Pierre Epinecolline, Mat-Mat

The top line defenders. Mat-Mat is a brilliant defender and also leads the point on the power play and Epinecolline is a master of crushing blows.

Defensive Line 2:

So-Bal, Swzl-Stk

A solid second defese line

Defensive Line 3:

Kn-Rg, Da-Li

Kn-Rg is a bit of an offensive minded defender and Da-Li is his partner, also the only women on the team.

Goalie:

Ha-Shk

Ha-Shk is the best player on the team, with only Sk-Ik even in the same area. He is an absolute beast in the pipes and is known as the "Subjugator" because he subjugates hockey games to his will.

Evgeni Tesla

Tesla is a solid backup keeper to Ha-Shk and can come in and keep the team afloat when Ha-Shk needs rest.

Other players will be chosen in case of scratches or injuries.

OOC:

If there is a style modifier, we would be -1. As for RP permissions most things are probably ok.
Ghost Tigers Rise
04-03-2007, 14:09
Hockey (which, in GTR, is synonomous with Ice Hockey) is the national team sport of Ghost Tigers Rise. Its professional league, the GTRHL, gets better ratings than football, even. Its team members are the star players of the GTRHL. The coach of this team, Emil Lang, was voted into the coaching position by the general managers and coaches of the GTRHL. He was the coach of the winners of last year's season and playoffs, the Yersinia Black Death. Despite having never competed on an international level, hopes of the "Tiger Army's" (the nickname for the GTR National Team) success are high.

Home games will be played in the Commonwealth National Stadium, the largest stadium in GTR, and the home of GTRHL's Totenheim Terminators. The national kit will bear the country's national colours (blue, black, and gold), and have the brand-f'in-new "Tiger Army" logo on the front.

Upon being asked about the team's placement into Group G, Lang said "I have a lot of respect for Nitrodymium, and Qazox. I intend to personally attend the funerals of their players after we're through with them." When asked about Bedistan, Lang threw a brick at the reporter, before muttering "No comment."

Tiger Army Roster
Manager: Emil Lang

LW - James Wretzchy
Age - 22
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 201
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - The most accurate shooter on the team, and one of the most powerful. One-time passes between him and Tvarda are a common, effective play on this line. His firecracker shot has made him Rookie of the Year and has given him the lead in goals in the GTRHL. First choice for the shootout line.

C - Alex Tvarda
Age - 26
Height - 5'10"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - Is the key playmaker on this line. His shot is very good (not as good as Wretzchy's, though), but he truly excels at passing, setting up screen plays, and getting the puck down ice. This balanced combination of skills has made him the points leader of the GTRHL for several years running.

RW - Timothy Hayes
Age - 24
Height - 6'0"
Weight - 186 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - backhand
Misc - While he's not a great shooter like Alex or James, he is very fast, and found himself a niche on the first line with his ability to poke the puck away on the forecheck, deke, and get rebound goals, even through tight defenses.

LW - Ivan Tetsky
Age - 22
Height - 6'0"
Weight - 194 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - Ivan is notorious for his powerful, board-shattering wrister. (OOC: Is the idea of a board-shattering wrister somewhat ridiculous? Yeah, a bit. But it sounds cool) He lacks the stunning accuracy of Wretzchy or Beech, but it's often so fast that this doesn't matter: goalies have no time to react to it. Is second batter on the shootout.

C- Jeffrey Isaaks (C)
Age - 28
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 205 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - The most aggressive player of the line. He forces his way down eyes, then either slaps it at the goal, aiming to get a rebound from either Tetsky or [Placeholder] (although, it is, on its own, powerful and accurate enough to make him one of the best scorers of the GTRHL), or he passes it directly to them, to take advantage of their amazing shooting ability. He's the most experienced and level-headed player on this team, and is a popular Captain.

RW- Jeremy Beech
Age - 23
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - The third goalscorer of the team. He has a deadly, accurate wrister, and has earned the title of 'sniper'. He doesn't have the most powerful shot on the team, but he's good at getting the keeper out of positioning and finding openings. Is third batter on the shootout line.

LW- Avery Way
Age - 24
Height - 6'1
Weight - 232
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - Despite his relative lack of finesse, he has learned to use his size to force plays, cut past the defense, and hammer the puck home off of rebounds. Also an effective forechecker.

C- Micky Ward (A)
Age - 26
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 202
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - Is a very well-balanced player. He's got good speed, a powerful shot, and is an ace at forechecking (and body-checking, he's notorious for flattening opponents in the neutral zone). This, combined with his near-supernatural ability to get shorthanded goals, and his skill at the face-off makes him a clutch player on the PK. These talents and his disciplined, steady attitude has made him second Assistant.

RW- Adam Jarvis
Age - 24
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 242 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - Is a very imposing figure on the ice. His shot isn't great, and it doesn't need to be: he mostly concentrates on getting the puck back into Tiger Army possession, which he does through competent poke-checking, devastating body-checking, and sheer intimidation. He's also the primary enforcer of the team.

LW- Terry Jarvis
Age - 21
Height - 6'3"
Weight - 235 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - The little brother of Adam Jarvis, plays in a very similar manner, with one main difference: Terry is good at things other than hitting people. He's also got a killer shot, clean passing abilities, and doesn't get as many PIMs as Adam. With some additional seasoning, he will be a powerful asset to any line of the GTRHL and national squad.

C- Eric Weyland
Age - 25
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 207
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A very good center in any league, but is overshadowed by Ward, Isaaks, and Tvarda. He's got a nice shot, good passing, and is a reliable play-maker, with a big enough frame for defense.

RW- Jeryll Yutani
Age - 25
Height - 6'5"
Weight - 226 lbs
Shoots - right
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - A big guy with a big shot. Mostly focuses on keeping the enemy from making it to the red line.

D - Bryan Wierzbowski (A)
Age - 25
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 206
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A major threat. This veteran defender has it all: high speed, a hard, bone-crunching check, finesse with the stick, a devastating, high-speed slapper, and a cool, disciplined, level head. All of this has him slotted as first Assistant, and placed him on the road to being Captain once Isaaks retires.

D - Jamie Tenderhook
Age - 21
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 195
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - backhand
Misc - The young partner of Wierzbowski, this stay-at-home defenseman has been benefitting from Wierzbowski's experience. At the moment, his talents lie in his powerful check and passing ability, but a few years of seasoning will probably mould him into a powerful scoring threat like Wierzbowski himself.

D - Samuel Foster
Age - 23
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 201 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - A rough, high-endurance player, not the slightest bit afraid to get in the fray and take on forwards much larger than him (one of the most famous fights of the past GTRHL season was between Foster and Adam Jarvis. Jarvis won, but only because he tripped Foster with his skate after becoming too tired to keep throwing punches). He's doesn't quite have the talent of Wierzbowski, but is a stand-up, blue-collar player.

D - Trenton "Trent" Distal
Age - 24
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - Trent and Foster complement each other quite well: Foster is a bang-up stay-at-home defenseman, while Trent is an ace sniper from the blue line. He's not bad in the defensive zone, either.

Defensive Pairing 3
D - Brendan Fireheim
Age - 26
Height - 5'11"
Weight - 201 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - Is an above-average, all-around player. Has a good work ethic, and one of the best career +/-'s in the GTRHL.

D - Devan Jomichikowzli
Age - 25
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 206 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - Is the Rosencrantz to Fireheim's Guildenstern (OOC: Yeah, I made a Hamlet joke. So?)

G - Martin Kolzig
Age - 27
Height - 6'3"
Weight - 223 lbs
Style - Hybrid
Misc - Olaf Brodeur is an excellent goalie. His GAA and S% are unrivaled in the GTRHL. His lightning fast reflexes and near-omniscient hockey sense are what make this team a contender, more than anything else.

G - Olaf Brodeur
Age - 25
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 215
Style - Hybrid
Misc - Fans call him "Brodeur Junior", and for good reason: he's the younger, smaller, less-experienced version of Olaf. Frankly, that suits this team just fine.

F - Eric Hamer
Age - 21
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 202
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A young, talented rookie, brought to the play-offs as a back-up. Will probably become a regular forward in a few years. His style is similar to Ward's.

F - Derek Zumicalis
Age - 21
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A young, talented rookie, brought to the play-offs as a back-up. Will probably become a regular forward in a few years. His style is similar to Tvarda's.

F - Tony Muir
Age - 21
Height - 6'3"
Weight - 223 lbs
Shoots - righty
Preferred Shot - slap
Misc - A young, talented rookie, brought to the play-offs as a back-up. Will probably become a regular forward in a few years. His style is similar to Terry Jarvis'.

D - Will Tonfer
Age - 21
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 206
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A young, talented rookie, brought to the play-offs as a back-up. Will probably become a regular forward in a few years. His style is similar to Wierzbowski's. He's not quite as good as Tenderhook, but will be a threat in the future.

D - Jackson Myrukal
Age - 21
Height - 6'2"
Weight - 196 lbs
Shoots - lefty
Preferred Shot - wrister
Misc - A young, talented rookie, brought to the play-offs as a back-up. Will probably become a regular forward in a few years. His style is similar to Trent's.

Milchama Banks: "Wait, we have a Hockey Team?"

ooc:will post roster here later ;)

OOC: OK, the joke's getting old...

IC:
GTR SPORTSNET:

Jim: Several players have been caught on camera stating that their chances of winning are almost certain, considering that half of the contenders seem to be using American Samoa-esque teams.

Bob: Dr. Lang has stated that the SDF's fold engines have disappeared, but the sparkles that are in its place can somehow be turned into an impenetrable forcefield that will eventually destroy Toronto, but will then become pivotal in the defeat of the Zentradi.

Jim: Wait... what?

Bob: I mean, Coach Lang has been trying to stop these unproductive comments and get the team focused on the game. The game being ice hockey. Which they're fantastic at.

Jim: Yes. That's true. We kick ass.

Bob: ...yep... *swigs beer*

Jim: ...yep... *swigs beer*

CORNELIU SPORTS NETWORK

"Welcome to the Corneliu Sports Network coverage of the 1st ever World Cup of Hockey event. This is an attempt by some countries to revive international hockey and to become a prestigious event over the course of the next several years.

"Before we announce the teams that the Corneliu Penquins will be playing, let us review the history of the Corneliu Penquins."

*tape plays showing highlights from the old Cherry Cup*

The Penquins were one of the primear teams in all of Cherry Cup. During their first year, they defeated their opponets to take their division. Though they did not win the title their first year, they made a statement to the league that they came to play.

Over the course of the next several Cherry Cups, they have had their ups and downs and it was during one of these down times that the Penquins resorted to using military troops to fill out their roster.

When they did this, the checking statistics went up as did their opponets injury numbers. However, they only managed to qualify for the playoffs a couple of times and then just barely because of all the penalty minutes they racked up.

*tape ends*

"That was the history of the Corneliu Penquins and it is good to see them back in action.

"Now let us break down the group that we are participating. After the draw, we were placed in group E. In this group, we wil be facing Cookesland, Daniel The Man, and Quakmybush. We know next to nothing about these teams but one thing is certain that this group is not going to be an easy one for the Fighting Pens. The Pens are slated to finish first but precup standings mean nothing when the actual competition begins.

"That is all from here now. Stay tuned for further updates from the World Cup of Hockey. Remember that you can see all the Penquin games right here on the Corneliuan Sports Network. I'm Peter Mayhew, good bye for now."

BetHL Brings You... Aroras On Ice

The scene - Puckfield House, Gabalfa, the headquarters of the BetHL (Bettian Hockey League, in case you haven't already guessed). And deep within this dusty mothballed sanctum, two suited individuals are in deep discussion about the upcoming World Cup in neighbouring Bedistan. One guy, going by the name of Willmott Brown, a tall-ish man with light brown hair and a slight sweat problem, is fidgeting nervously as he prepares to break some bad news to his boss.

"Now here's the funny thing. The BetHL had originally stated that they would field a team composed entirely of Aroras, but we didn't really mean it, right? It was only meant as a laugh."

His boss, one Niall Fortune, laughs wholeheartedly, his bald patch glistening in the fluorescent light despite the best efforts of a thin combover.

"Oh yes, that was superb. I mean, can you imagine a load of Aroras playing ice hockey?! Classic!"

"I know. We didn't really mean it. It was just a joke. However..."

"However?"

"However, our preparations have been thrown into disarray somewhat."

"How do you mean?"

"Well, thanks to the BetHL being on hiatus for so long as the Blessed Realm has concentrated more and more on football, Bettia's regular ice hockey players have gotten fat and out of condition. So, erm, we've had to..."

Fortune holds his hand out to cut his underling off in mid-sentence.

"Please... I really hope you're not about to tell me what I think you're about to tell me."

Dixon shakes his head and looks at the floor.

"I'm afraid we really will have to field a team of Aroras."

Fortune sinks his head into the palms of his hands in despair and mutters a few unaudible obscenities, before raising his head again and looking at Dixon.

"Come on then Willmott," he sighed despondantly, "Show me the team sheet."

CENTRES:

05. Tiddles II
Sex: Female
Breed: Common
Colouration: Off-white
Age: 14 years
Daughter of Tiddles, the famous mascot of the Bettian national football team after whom the national stadium is named. Tiddles II is the oldest Arora on the squad, and has been known to have quite a vicious streak on her - in other words, she's just an ordinary (albeit famous) Arora.

06. Icy
Sex: Male
Breed: Silver
Colouration: Silver
Age: 7 years
So-called because he was actually born and bred on an ice-rink, it's unsurprising that out of all the squad members, Icy is the most comfortable on the rink. Quick and nimble with the amazing ability of actually dribbling the puck instead of just smacking it around and biting the opposition. It's been rumoured that Icy may have a career in the pro league, if and when it gets restarted.

07. Pickles
Sex: Male
Breed: Common
Colouration: Off-white with dark patch over left eye
Age: 9 years
The most docile member of the squad, Pickles has the annoying tendancy to sniff around everywhere (and yes, that does include people's butts) instead of concentrating on the game. When he does get his act together, he's put quite a few trainers in hospital... but that's only because he slaps the puck so hard.

08. Gertie
Sex: Male
Breed: Mottled
Colouration: Dark green with brown blotches
Age: 10 years
Gertie is known to have an incredibly moody disposition, a trait common to all male Aroras who are unfortunate enough to have been given a girl's name. Because of this, he can be usually found hanging off people's legs during games.

LEFT WING:

09. Zippy
Sex: Male
Breed: Mottled
Colouration: Dark grey with black and dark green blotches
Age: 6 years
The smallest member of the Aroras On Ice, and also the quickest, having honed his skills by zipping through the undergrowth of the densest parts of the Banastran rainforest. Zippy has proven to be a lightning-quick winger, zipping across the ice like a little streak of, erm, lightning. Unfortunately he hasn't quite got the hang of stopping yet, and often ends up smacking face-first into the sideboards or getting tangled up in the goal net.

10. Bungle
Sex: Male (?)
Breed: Common
Colouration: Off-white
Age: 2 years
Although officially classed as a male, Bungle has confused his trainers by showing some distinctly female tendancies, such as getting broody over baby Aroras, not eating much for days on end before pigging out on chocolate and cream cakes, constantly looking at himself in a mirror, and flying into a rage for no apparent reason.

RIGHT WING:

11. Bubbles
Sex: Female
Breed: Common
Colouration: Off-white
Age: 11 months
Officially the cutest member of the Bettian squad. Bubbles often tricks the opposition into giving her the puck by either crying or just staring up at them with her big, green eyes. Then she'll bite them. Yep, she's a quick learner, is our Bubbles.

12. Sophie
Sex: Female
Breed: Mottled
Colouration: Ginger with black and white patches
Age: 4 years
Where Bubbles is the cutest member of the squad, Sophie is the most affectionate. She is often cited for tripping where in fact, all she is doing is rubbing up against people's legs.

DEFENCE:

02. Star
Sex: Female
Breed: Silver
Colouration: Silver with black streaks
Age: 4 years
03. Blade
Sex: Male
Breed: Silver
Colouration: Silver with black streaks
Age: 4 years
Originally bred for use as guards outside the Starblaydian embassy in Gabalfa, it was decided that the brother and sister pariing of Star and Blade (Star being the sister) were just too vicious, often biting passers-by. For this reason they were drafted into the Bettian hockey squad - to add bite to the defensive line.

04. Twat
Sex: Male
Breed: Common
Coluration: Off-white
Age: 13 years
Officially the 'squad member drafted in to make up the numbers', Twat is by far the most unintelligent player, often just skating around aimlessly and falling over. He does show the occasional flash of brilliance though and when he does it's worth seeing... but this is VERY occasional.

NETMINDERS:

01. Big Bertha
Sex: Female
Breed: Giant
Colouration: Light brown
Age: 4 months
Big by name, big by nature, Big Bertha is a rare Giant Arora, which have only recently been discovered on the fringes of the rainforests on Bettia's northern borders. Standing at over seven foot tall and another seven foot in diameter (which is roughly a quarter of the size of a fully-grown Arora Collossis), she provides all the physical prescence needed to stand in front of the pipes and do pretty much nothing else throughout the whole game, sometimes even falling asleep.

Fortune groaned as he placed the team sheet back on the table.

"So, erm... this squad - it looks a little thin."

"How do you mean boss?"

"Well, look at it. There's only twelve players."

"So?"

"So, what about subsitutions?"

"We won't have any - not during the game anyway."

"But won't they get tired?"

"What? Aroras? No chance, they're much too energetic - they'll keep going all day if we let them. Besides, we've tried substitutions during our training matches, and it's proven to be rather difficult. They don't really respond to our calls, so the only way to change players over would be to actually reach over the boards and pick them up as the skate past... and seeing as most of them are only about two foot tall, that's a bit difficult."

"I see. So what about their kit?"

"Ah! I'm glad you asked me that!" Dixon said with a twinkle in his eye, before bending over to pick something up off the floor. "I give you... our team kit!"

With that, he produced a green ice hockey helmet with a long strap underneath, a square bracket on one side, and a small numbered flag on top.

"What's with the cute little flags?" Fortune asked.

"That's the squad number."

"Right. So what's with the long chin-strap?"

"That's not a chin-strap, it's a body-strap. Aroras don't have chins."

"Ah. So what's that square bracket for?"

Without saying anything, Dixon picked up an ice hocket stick and carefully slotted it into place.

"Ah. I see."

"Yes. We originally thought about it on top, but it blocked the field of vision. Having it on the side gives our players more leverage to take shots, plus it has the extra advantage of leaving their mouths free for biting the opposition."

"Isn't that illegal?"

"We'll let the other teams' physios worry about that one!" Dixon replied with a chuckle. "And, for the piéce de résistance..."

With a triumphant 'ta-dah!', Willmott pulls out a tiny skate ice skate. "There - an arora-sized skate, perfectly adapted for all twenty or so of their feet!"

"Heh! So, what tactics will we be using?"

"Tac... tics?"

Dixon groaned once more. "Oh no! Don't tell me we have no tactics whatsoever!"

"Oh come on boss - these are Aroras we're dealing with! The only tactics they know is biting anyone who looks at them funny."

Fortune picked up the team sheet and sighed. "This had better work Dixon, cos if it doesn't we'll be laughing stock of the world!"

The Qazox Tooninators have released their up-coming schedule and roster of the World Cup of Hockey

Schedule:
@ Bedistan
vs. Ghost Tigers Rise
@ Nitrodymium

And the Roster: (starters are in blue)

GOALIES:

#1- Lisa Simpson, Springfield, NT. 8 yrs old. The best Goalies in the Springfeild PAL Hockey league, but an avowed Buddhist, so expect clean play from this young lady. Might be caught playing the sax during intermissions.

#6- Peter Griffin, Quahog, RI. 43 yrs old. A bit old to be playing hockey, but nothing can stop this slightly retarded, drunken Irish Huguenot from the ice.

#5- Eric Cartman, South Park, CO. 9 yrs old. A big-boned child, with a temper and a mouth of a sailor, this child can cover almost all the net. Has been known to make chili out of opponent' parents.

DEFENDERS:

#7- Prof. Snake Jailbird, Springfield NT. 38 yrs. old.Once a lacrosse player for Ball State, now a hardened criminal, Snake has used his lacrosse experience for hockey has has proven to be quite good, when not in the penalty box for stealing everything not nailed down, including nails.

#3- Bender Bending Rodríguez, New New York. 6 yrs old, but with a 1057 yr. old head. This robot, who loves to drink, will kill all humans that come near him, unless he's drunk, which is 99.9% of the time.

#14- Stimpson J. Cat, Age and location unknown. A very un-intelliegent cat, Stimpy, as he is known to teammates, is a true friend, as he will take any punishment unleashed on him and laugh it off. A true gamer.

#13- Homer Jay Simpson, Springfield, NT, 38 yrs old, give or take a couple of years. A true blue collar worker, but a bit slow on the uptake. Does drink, loves to eat, and is inept in almost everything, but somehow it works out for him in the end.

FORWARDS:
#9- Hermes Conrad- New New York. 40ish. This Ex-Limboer from Jamaica is an up-tight man, and if you get within a few feet of him, if the marijuana cloud don't get you, his collator will. Very flexible and is used as a 3rd goalie if needed.

#2- Turanga Leela- New New York. 25 yrs. old. Despite only having one eye, this is one tough chick, and if you say that to her, she'll kick your head in. Hard checker.

#11- Ren Höek, Age and location unknown. This Asthma-Hound chihuahua, is very excitable and will slap the crap out of anyone who gets near him, as he is just short of pure evil. Expect lots of penalties from him.

#8- Kenny McCormick- South Park, CO. 9 yrs. old. No one has ever seen his face, but this kid is deadly...too himself. If he doesn't die during the game, then he didn't try hard enough. Kind of hard to understand as he mumbles a bit.

CENTERS:

#4- Joe Swanson- Quahog, RI. 39 yrs. old. Despite his handicap of being in a wheelchair, this cop wants you to "Bring it On!!!", as he is want to say. All in all one guy you don't wanna mess with.

#8- Captain Leslie Hero- Zebulon, 28 yrs old. A refugee from the destroyed planet of Zebulon, this reality show star wants to prove to himself and the world that he doesn't suck at sports. Almost indestuctible, but usually finds himself having sex with anyone...yes anyone.

#12- Robot Chicken- Age and location unknown. This re-constructed chicken that failed to cross the road has lasers that shoot out of his eye. Has a encyclopedic knowledge of all parody and comdey, but it is unknown how a chicken can ice-skate.

HEAD COACH- Stewart Gilligan Griffin- Quahog, RI. 1 yr. old. This intelligent child with world domination ambitions has decided to put the world on hold for now, and is consentrating on the World Cup of Hockey. Will stoop to shooting or beating-up a fellow coach.

We're Going to ... Bedistan?!

Alright, this is for all of you hockey fans muddled in between the footy fanatics. While the Marauders may have just qualified for their first Proper, the Calcuttas are preparing themselves for the inagural World Cup of Hockey, which has arisen from the ashes of the dead Cherry Cup. For those of you who do remember, the Calcuttas won back to back BNW League Championships before the League collapsed in on itself due to bankrupcy in the front office. This team is slightly changed from those squads and the squads that had participated in the last two editions of the Cherry Cup, but rest assured, this squad is loaded with the premier hockey talent in the ESF. However, that can be said about all of the participating nations, as we are all basically minnows heading into the ocean with this new tournament, no team starting off any better than another.

So how well are the Calcuttas going to do you ask. The answer likely depends on three key figures: Martin Fressis, Sergei Osefrus, and Marty Wardell. If these crucial players can raise the level of their game to compete with a higher fierocity on the international level, good things can be expected from the latest edition of the national team. However, if their play stays on par with what they showed in the BNW League, then decent results can come, but they will not be able to dominate and pull out those close affairs like they did in region tournaments. This is a World Cup, more than just talent will be the ingrediants to a successful campaign, the squad is going to need heart, detirmination, and chemisty else they fall by the wayside and eat the dust of their oppenents.

They have been drawn into what looks to be a two horse race of a group, with them and the Aroras of Bettia looking to be the class of the group. However, despite the Ironwell and Lethislavania submitting an official roster up to this point, they should not be taken lightly. Any team can win on any given night, with players having bad games or just not getting the bounces being the difference between a fair result and a disgusted and quiet trip back to the hotel from the arena. Be that as it may, if the Calcuttas play their game, and use their speed to their advantage, they should have little trouble finding the back of the net against these squads. The Aroras will be a challange, as the creatures unique physical make up will make marking them difficult. In order to prepare to take on these creatures, the Calcuttas have been playing a few exihbition matches against a group of dwarves and have produced some decent training excerises in preparation. With that said, a win over them would go a long way in securing their place in the knockouts. This is how I see the group shaking out.

Group D
1) Bettia 2-1-0
2) ESF 2-1-0 7
3) Ironwell 1-0-2
4) Lethislavania 0-0-3

Terry Obinpaus: Heeey, there, hockey fans!!!

Johnny O'doullus: Who's ready for more coverage of the World! Cup! Of! HOCKEY!!!

Jackson Vonnegut: It's the sporting event of the decade, brought to you by Kind Mac's Extra Stout Ale, and GTR-Crown Victoria! *logos splash across the screen*

Terry: Yes, sah! As you probably know, the first round of the Cup is about to start: the Group Stage!

Johnny: Absolutely right. And, now, the Tiger Army must prove itself on the ice. We know they're good. They know they're good. But the question is, how good are the other teams?

Jack: Well, as is already known, the other members of our group are Bedistan, Nitrodymium, and Qazox. Our first opponent will be Nitrodymium, then Qazox, then Bedistan. Which of these teams are threats?

Terry: Well, Nitrodymium has failed to even announce a roster. It's clear that their hearts aren't in this bout. Qazox, while they do, in fact, have a roster, it is composed entirely of fictional characters.

Johnny: What?!

Terry: That's right: fictional, cartoon characters. Considering that there will, apparently, be no one on the ice, the match should be a pushover. Oh, yeah, on top of that, have you actually seen the roster?

Johnny: No, I haven't gotten it yet.

Terry: *roster is displayed on bottom-left of screen* It's a freaking football roster, adapted for hockey! Look at it: eleven players, and five were just picked to be starters. There's no mention of lines or substitutions on it at all.

Jack: *starts laughing*

Terry: And, look at their head coach: It's a baby! The coach is 1 year old!

All: *start laughing until tears run down their eyes*

Jack: *after considerable pause* But, *wipes tear* then, of course, there's Bedistan. Now, they should be a challenge. Competent, focused players, and they clearly care about hockey: they went to the extent of starting this cup.

Terry: So, what do you see as the standings being?

Jack: I see it like this:
Bedistan: 3-0-0
Ghost Tigers Rise: 2-0-1
Qazox: 1-1-1
Nitrodymium: 0-3-0
I see us losing in overtime against Bedistan, but annihilating the other two teams.

Johnny: I disagree:
Ghost Tigers Rise: 3-0-0
Bedistan: 2-1-0
Qazox: 1-1-1
Nitrodymium: 0-3-0
I think we'll beat Bedistan fair-and-square, personally. Other than that, you're probably right, though.

Terry: Well, we'll just have to watch to find out! And *points to camera* I hope you join us.

HYATT GORGE -- The Bedistan national hockey team has just finished pre-World Cup preparations at their training camp in Hyatt Gorge. Many fans aren't really certain how well the team will perform, as Bedistan has not had a national hockey team in decades. The nation did make one isolated Cherry Cup appearance, but did not do particularly well.

All in all, Bedistan seems like a very unlikely place for the rebirth of international hockey competition. The Bedistan Ice Hockey Federation (BIHF) decided to take the initiative and declare candidacy to host the inaugural World Cup of Hockey, and with no opposition, Bedistan got the hosting nod.

The national team, dubbed the Porcupines, will face their first test against Qazox at the Crescent in Hampton. The Crescent (capacity 22,496) is so named because of the shape of its seating area, with seats extending in a 320-degree arc, tapered at the ends and widest in the middle.

Porcupines head coach Brent Greene said he really didn't know what to make of his team's first opponents. "They've got it all, it seems, from robots to paraplegics to purple-haired cyclops. But we're not going to let that put us off guard. And victory most definitely shall not be his," he concluded, referring to Qazox head coach Stewart Griffin.

The Bazalonian hockey squad arrived at the venue in Bazalonia where they were to play the upcoming matches in the World Cup of Hockey, To their surprise It was an Ice Rink That could seat 17,254 people to be precise.

“We are going to play Hockey on that?!” commented the Captain of the team, the team infact was the Bazalonian national Field Hockey team and they indeed thought that the World Cup of Hockey was a field hockey tournament.

The team had been entered the Venue constructed and ready, but the thing was that no one had a foggiest idea about how to play Ice hockey nor even the ability to skate, however a saviour came, in the form of Caleb Watson, one of the worst Assistant coaches in the Oliverrian Hockey League, but neither did they care nor know how bad he was for they were desperate and needed someone, anyone with any amount of experience at this game.

First thing was first, the team underwent an intensive training scheme, first knowing how to skate and basics like rules. Then onto things like body checks, penalties and things like keeping.

Some of the skills, like keeping directly transfer from field hockey but the other skills needed work and needed a lot of work. As time went by the competition drew closer and now it was the day before their first match against Rorysville. The team stomachs were full of butterflies and nervious as anything as they came to the venue to face their first opponent ever………

"Blast.. Damn it all! You played like crap!" Yelled HC Stewie Griffin. "You looked more lost out there than the Donner Party! (quick cut scene to the Donner Party looking at their map, which says: "You are definitely not here, with an arrow pointing to California"). "But all is not lost yet, we still got two more games to play."

"Well if some of you could stop getting penalties every 30 seconds, we could win," chimed in Lisa Simpson.

"Steeeeempy, you eeediot. Why didn't you tell me you couldn't skate?" screamed Ren Höek.

"Duh.....(drools for a minute) you never asked." replied Stimpy, who was quickly slapped repeatedly by Ren.

"Well, I made out like a bandit. Got myself 3 vendors carts, 4 police cars, and the Zamboni machine..ha ha." Snake chimed in, while rummaging through the lockers.

"MMM...MM...MMMMMMMMM..MMMMMMMMMMMMM.....MMMMMM..." Kenny said, but no one could figure out exactly what.

"BAWK!" Robot Chicken said, and was even less understood than Kenny.

"ENOUGH....Time to use the mind control device on the referees for the next game, and maybe we can win." Stewie said, but to no avail as the team had already left the locker room.

After the match the team was stunned it seemed this mixed field hockey team could actually play a match of Ice Hockey, no one was sure whether Caleb Watson helped or hindered, whether it was a fluke or this team had skill. No one knew. Infact no one even knew in the Ice Hockey circles these guys names were.

It seemed like in the rush to get the team on the ice, someone had over looked the names of the players infact the Jersey's looked like they had been drawn on a napkin. At the end of regulation time, the players were actually surprised that not only they had scored 4 goals (at least the terminology was similiar), however the other team had got the puck(this was a different piece of terminology that they weren't used to and frequently refered to the puck as a ball) into the net 4 times as well. However there was also something else that surprised them... Overtime. They just thought the matched ended in a draw everyone got points and then went home, however to their surprise they found there was over time and not only that (seeing as nobody scored during the overtime). There was a penalty shoot out...

First shot --- In for both teams
Second shot --- In for both teams
Third shot --- One of the players took their field hockey stick with them on the ice and so was penalised forfeiting their penalty. Which gabe Rorysville free shot at wining the game. Which they did.

Bazalonian Field/Ice Hockey Team

Manager: Caleb Watson, Until recently he was the Assisting Coach to Saint-François Anges in the Oliverrian Hockey League. apparently the worst Assistant coach in the league, however in desperation the Bazalonian team took him and made him not only a coach, not only their head coach but the guy responsible for the entire team and their entourage.

Scoring Line 1
LW- #11 - One of Bazalonia's best male forwards for Field Hockey, seems to be able to strategise well, though it is currently unsure wether his skills will rub off into Ice Hokey or whether his mind is stuck on field Hockey
C- #2 (C) - A female scorer and captain of the team, she is also the captain of the women's field hockey team and mixed field Hockey team whenever they get around to playing. She hates playing Ice Hockey but she is currently forced into doing it by those around her.

"What's this black circle thingy?"

"That's a puck Ryan."

"Well what do we do with this "puck"?"

"You hit it into the opposing net and keep it out of yours."

"So it's like football on ice?"

"Kind of, but there are only five players on the ice at a time per team, excluding the goalies. Also, the players come on and off the ice in what are called shifts. Lastly, there are three twenty minute periods, a five minute extra time period if regulation ends in a draw, and then if it is still tied, they head into what is called a shootout. A shootout is composed of a skater going one on one with a goalie and trying to score, not being able to score on the rebound though. Whoever is ahead through three rounds is the winner, or it will go onto further rounds if still level until one team wins. Got it?"

"Kinda. One last question coach. Why the heck are we called the Crush? It sounds like a awful girly name if you ask me."

"Well no one asked you Ryan, and for that comment, you get to do an extra twenty lines in the next training session"

Going Up!

A rather good start to the campaign for the Calcuttas, as they handled their business with Ironwell in fashionable form, dispatching them to a tune of three to nil. Not to be outdone, the Aroras on Ice danced past Lethislavania
four to one, taking the temporary lead in the table, with the Calcuttas nipping at their heels. The group is clearly a two horse race, as was predicted earlier in my group preview, as Ironwell and Lethislavania just do not have the pedigree to compete with the likes of Bettia and ouselves. I can not stress how important that match is going to be, as both squads would much rather move on into the knockouts as the top seed instead of letting the fates be tested with the dreaded label of second seed.

The squad came out ready to play in the opening period, Rochest sending out the second line to start the game. Tatum won the opening face off, and slung it over to Niko. The winger strolled into the offensive zone and spun past the defender, and then sent a saucy pass across ice to Osefrus. The crafty elf got it, deked out his defender, and pulled out an impressive move on the goalie, faking a shot to the blocker side, to come back and pull it on the backside past the sprawled out keeper. The Calcuttas settled into a nice defensive game, blocking Ironwell's shots left and right, leaving Ironwell with only 2 shots on goal in the period. Templers flared towards the end of the period, when the first string right defender for Ironwell slashed Wardell across the head after a save. Marcus Orealus didn't take too kindly to this, and he drop his mits and knocked out the defender with a single blow, much to the roar of the Calcutta supporters.

With Marcus in the box for the start of the second period, as he recieved a five minute major for fighting and a two minute minor for instigating served by Damien Millar, the squad had to concentrate on their defensive game. With the oppisition on the powerplay, Wardell had to deal with several difficult shots, but proved up to the task and the squad was able to kill it off. As the period moved along, the Ironwell squad began to tire, and their lack of training began to show as the Calcuttas were just a step quick to every loose puck. Clemens was able to win a battle along the boards and sent it in front of the net where Walker was waiting to put it top shelf where goal tenders do not dare.

The third saw little in the ways of offensive play making, as the Calcuttas were content to just play keep away and sacrifice their bodies everytime a player went to shoot. Kapenen would ice the result with a minute left to go, taking a rebound off of Wardell and sending it the legnth of the rink into the empty net. The squad just needs to keep to this type of form, and they should continue to get the good results. Expect Fressis to be more of a factor in the next match, as he was saddled with a poor performanced to his standards.

Forwards

Line 1
LW-TJ Wong, BSC Tornadoes
Wong is really breaking out even more this year, leading in goals and points. He's another smaller, faster player, who can do everything but fight.

C- JP Puhdahl, Aubrey Blades
Puhdahl's team had the second pick in the last draft and they didn't waste it, taking a talented, playmaking forward, who's used to carrying a bad team. Puhdahl has 14 points so far on his teams 27 goals, so you figure it out.

RW- Chris McAlpine, BSC Tornadoes
McAlpine is the premier power forward in the CHL today. He's used to looking out for Wong, so watching Puhdahl's back won't be a problem for him.

Line 2

LW-Brent Zahrdnik, Intel Coocoobad
He's big,he's strong, he can score. That's really about it. Leads the league in Gordie Howe hat-tricks.

C- Andrei Stolypin, Coocoobad Red Menace
A speedy forward with tons of moves, Stolypin's only weakness is an occasional lack of focus.

RW-Jay Mitchell, Intel Coocoobad
Mitchell may not be the fastest skater, hardest shooter or have the dangles, but he's got heart. Scored the winner in OT to give Intel the cup.

Line 3

LW- Hans Lang, Panjuhr Elite
C- Brent Liang, Panjuhr Elite
RW- Tim Shalash, Panjuhr Elite

The Elite are one of the best teams this year and this is their top line. They move the puck well and are likely the best line from the league, so much that they stay together for the World Cup.

Line 4
LW-Corey Cohrs, Panjuhr Owls
Cohrs is a quiet achiever, a playmaker in particular

C- Anthony Perella, South Coocoobad Rams
Perella is breaking out, but earns his first selection to the national team because of his checking, both with the stick and the body too.

RW- Rick Haith, South Coocoobad Rams
Haith has come on as of late, as he's got a few helpers in South Coocoobad, looking to avenge being left off the squad for East Pacific Hockey Championship 5.

Defence

Pair 1
Barry Davis, Intel Coocoobad
Davis is a future national team captain, until then, he'll have to settle for being a puck moving defenceman, as his leading the scoring among Defenders shows.

Dan Clerk, Intel Coocoobad
Clerk is the guy who stays back, so Davis can join the rush. Of course, Clerk can take his own chances too.

Pair 2
Kirill Malkin, Coocoobad Red Menace
Malkin's a brash, younger player, but when Starukhin can calm him down, he's solid.

Alex Starukhin, Coocoobad Red Menace
A defenceman's defenceman, Starukhin rarely, if ever, gets points. Turnovers are even more rare though and that's why he's a favourite amongst coaches.

Pair 3
Mark Koltsoff D Ulgava Wild
Koltsoff is the type of player you can forget about, as he has no points this year. Of all the players on the team, his is the contribution hardest to find on the scoresheet, as his defence is solid.

Scott Dixon D South Coocoobad Rams
A young player and the Rams' franchise player in their first year, Dixon is another Defensive specialist. Once he gets a few good men to help him out, he'll be a solid #1 D-man.

Goaltenders

Michael Akhadkov G Dragons HC
We all knew it would happen and now it has. Adhakov's play has vaulted him into the starter's job, with Rawlins right behind him if he can't keep it.

Dave Rawlins G Wajax Winterhawks
The only thing more shocking than Rawlins epic play at EPHC 4, was his trade to the 'Hawks right after. Still, despite the fact that nobody is averaging more than half a point per game, his new team is 6th and in the playoffs and the credit is all his.

"Welcome to the picturesque mountains of Ascama Province in Northern Fort Europe, I'm Evan Coalder reporting live from the edge of a frozen lake with the hand full of brave and somewhat curious locals who ventured all the way up here to take a look what many in Fort Europe are calling the most extreme sport ever invented. I'm joined now by footballer Freedom Covanna who was one of the first people in the entire Commonwealth to try out this new sport, and to do it at international level today, just three days after learning the sport over in ESF, what was it like?"

"Cold Evan, very cold. This lake was cleared only a few hours before we came to play and the ice was rather thin in patches, a couple of their players actually fell through and had to be pulled out of the freezing water."

"Now you've just played the United Island Empire out there, what is the sport like to play, I'm affraid I don't understand the rules yet but it looked like you wern't doing to badly out there?"

"We won Evan, we actually won. It's a difficult sport, hard enough just to stand up on the ice let alone play hockey on it, but somehow we managed to score five goals to their three and collected two points from our opening World Cup match."

"Wow Congratulations! Then that puts you top of group A with two games remaining, an chance of making it to the knockout stages do you think?"

"Anything can happen, at the moment we're just fumbling around out there, I mean this sport is similar in many ways to the Hockey we all know and love, but we don't even get a ball to play with. We get this thick plastic disc that is designed to slide over the ice better, here take a look."

He hands a puck to Evan.

"This says 'Property of ESF Calcuttas' on it."

"Well we didn't have any so we borrowed some of them. We got these wierd shoes from them as well, they have metal blades on the bottom which make it a lot easier to move on the ice. Much better than the snow shoes the Army gave us."

"So who scored?"

"I did of course, well I got two anyway. Matty Durne got one and Denver Gall scored the other two. Will Clitheroe done well in goal, though he's got a mild case of frostbite so will probably have to sit the next one out. It's a good job we had all these thermal layers on out there under this big thick sheep skin coat, how on earth the other team managed with just those flimsy shirts they were wearing I have no idea. I don't know who scored for the United Island Empire, I didn't manage to catch their names but I think the ref did if you get a chance to speak to him."

"Thankyou Freedom, but I'm afraid thats all I have time for up here in the Ascama Mountains where it is starting to snow again, if you missed the live game there are highlights this evening on the Commonwealth Extreme Sports channel at eleven thirty. This is Evan Colder handing back to the studio."

Gazeta Swilajska
English Version

Well, many of you may be unaware of this, since such a sport is unheard of in Swilatia. In fact, I had a heard time convinced the guys to allow this article in. Anyway, the world cup of (Ice) hockey has just begun, and believe it or not, Swilatia actually has a team. The few of us that actually cared believed that it would do poorly, as ice hockey is so unpopular in Swilatia, the capacity of the country's largest ice hockey stadium is around 2500 poeple.

However, our first match went quite well actually, winning 7-2. Sure, in the first third, or whatever the time divisions in this sport are called, our oppenet, Kuczeria, score the first to goals, at 4 minutes and 7 minutes. It looked like Swilatia would do badly, just as predicted. However, this was wrong, as this was just the first part. And it was even in this time that we started to come back. We scored a goal at 15 minutes. I never bothered to check the goalscorer's name, because i'm not sure any-one here cares.

So, we progress into part 2 of 3, as for some reson every part is just 20 minutes. Here we are the only ones scoring goals, putting the Kuczerians further in the dark, as we score 4 goals here, at 2, 8, 11, and 17. Kuczeria never stood a chance here. They had no chance, even though our players kept getting penalties because they did not understand the rules of the sport. And that marks the end of this one.

Yes, we have a parts to this sport. Yew, I know, too much. This part went mostly the same as part 2, but with only two goals, at 4 and 10 minutes.

OOC: Yes, I know it's a period. But most Swilatians don't

CORNELIU SPORTS NETWORK

Welcome back sports fans and what an exciting first day of competition for the Corneliu Penquins. Their first opponet was the Daniel the Man and folks, this one was not even close. Corneliu dominated from the drop of the puck to the final horn.

In the first period, The center for the first line got the scoring frenzy going in the fifth minute with a one time shot. Later that same period, Left Defenseman took a feed pass from the the right wing and did a backhanded shot that made it 2-0 in the 10th minute of play. By the end of the first period, the score was 3-0 with a penalty shot goal by 3rd line center in the 15th minute.

In the 2nd period, it was a tad more relaxed with Corneliu sittin' on the lead for most of it but they did get two more goals by the first line center thus giving him a hat trick for the game. With the score being 5-0, the General decided to play his extra players and changed goalies after the fifth goal was scored and the back up position players got some ice time.

In the third period, the scoring frenzy picked up again, this time by the back up players. Three different people scored in the final period to make the final 8-0 in favor of the Pens.

"This was a wonderful tune up game for us." The general said at the end of the game. "The team played as it is supposed to play, like a machine. This will assist us in our next game. We will keep this up and we will show the world that we are a team that can beat the best of the best."

That was the General in his post game press conference.

In other action today, QuackmyBush defeated Cookesland 4-3 in a well played game. The way both teams played is paramount as both teams still have to face the Fighting Pens and thus all teams will be tested.

We will see you all here tomorrow for the next segment of the World Cup of Hockey when Corneliu plays again. That's all for now. Good night.

Coach Kronen: Nice win guys. Dru-Ri, way to sniff out that winning goal. But we need to cut down on the penalties and get better killing on the penalties. Giving up two power play goals is gonna kill us.

Epinecolline: Sorry bout that coach. They were calling the game tighter than I expected. Still against an effete team like Oliverry it's best to show them who's tougher straight from the start.

Kronen: Yes, but do it within the rules, next time. Now we need to stay focused. We keep flaming out early. The goal is to make at least the last four this time so we can't take one overtime win, even if it's over a strong squad like Oliverry as too important. Next up is Milchama. What do we know about them?

Sk-Ik: Not much. Knowing the warriors, we'll probably have to deal with a polar bear or a yak or something stupid like that.

Kronen: Well then we'll stick with the formation that got us here. Good work today men. Enjoy your night but stay out of trouble, k?

<Coach heads off>

Dmp-Hs: Did you guys catch highlights of the Qazox game? Those guys are straight up freaks. Last cup they copied the Sci-Fi nerd patrol and this time they're coming from the anime convention.

Mat-Mat: I know, it's a fucking embarassment, what do they think this is Littlest Doombug on Ice? (OOC: Littlest Doom Bug is the most popular animated movie series in Az-cz)

So-Bal: Well I've seen their football team and if I had the cow mugs those guys had I'd want to hide my face under a costume too. So we shouldn't be too hard on them.

Stm-Na: Hahaha. True true. Did you guys see the Polak group. Kuczerica, Swilatia and Lovisa. Pretty funny.

Fedorenko: My old man taught me some good Polak jokes. How do you stop a Polish army on horseback?

Hey-Dk: Heck if I no.

Fedorenko: Stop the merry-go-round. How bout this one: Why wasn't Christ born in Poland?

Tu-Fst: Dude, will you cut it out already. No one else here gives a crap about your stupid Polak jokes.

Fedorenko: Alright dude. Sorry. Just thought I'd add to the humor.

With that the locker room goes silent.

HAMPTON -- Bedistan's national ice hockey team managed to get off to a better than anticipated start against the Tooninators of Qazox. While other members of Group G had dismissed the Qazox team as worthless due to being composed entirely of fictional characters, Porcupines head coach Brent Greene was resolved to take the match seriously.

The action began right from the opening whistle as it was apparent that Qazox center Joe Swanson's wheelchair was not properly equipped for use on the ice, causing the player to spin out of control and ultimately crash into the boards near the Bedistan goal. Though Swanson fell out of the chair during the crash, he nevertheless maintained control of his stick and the puck and was successfully able to complete a pass to Hermes Conrad whilst lying on his stomach. Swanson refused all offers of help from match officials, insisting that he be allowed to return to the wheelchair under his own power. He was not hurt, but he did leave the ice momentarily while his wheels were properly modified for use on the ice. With half the Qazox players distracted (though Conrad and Rodríguez simply continued about their business), Daniel Wilkinson was easily able to take control of the puck, which he passed up to Garsio Gonzalo. Gonzalo wasted no time in scoring a goal to put the Porcupines ahead 1-0 just a minute and a half in.

A penalty on Qazox's Homer Simpson four minutes later produced the first power play of the game, and Gonzalo came through again to give Bedistan a two-goal lead against the shorthanded opposition. After the second goal, the Qazox players seemed to be finally finding their footing (or wheeling, as the case may be), and the defense was starting to solidify. Slowly but surely the momentum began to turn in the Tooninators' favor, and near the middle of the period Joe Swanson seemed ready to redeem himself for the unfortunate incident that led to the first goal. His perfectly placed shot just whizzed right past Hong Sol-gi to cut the lead in half.

About fifteen minutes in, Bill Gonzales executed a rather forceful bodycheck on Bender Rodríguez, which was immediately followed by the robot telling Gonzales to "bite his shiny metal ass." Rodríguez was charged with a two-minute penalty, producing another power play and ultimately another goal, this time by Migelo Kamporino, bringing the score to 3-1. Gi Hwe-sang would end up adding another goal to the tally to give the Porcupines a commanding 4-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period didn't start off any better for Qazox, as before the clock even got started, Rodríguez incurred another penalty to give Bedistan yet another power play, and Garsio Gonzalo took just fifteen seconds to produce his third goal of the game. With a 5-1 lead, the Porcupines were able to kick back and relax for the final two periods. Most expected that Brent Greene would substitute in a backup goalkeeper, but for some undisclosed reason, he did not.

After Garsio Gonzalo scored yet again in the middle of the second period to bring the score to 6-2, Qazox finally decided they needed a goalkeeping change of their own, taking out a strongly disappointed Lisa Simpson in favor of the somewhat bulkier Peter Griffin. Peter's size enabled him to block the goal much more effectively, and of the 19 shots Bedistan made against him, only one goal scored (compared to six times as many goals from the same number of shots against Simpson).

The only truly notable event of the third period was the sudden death of Qazox forward Kenny McCormick after a flying puck struck him sharply in the head. Peter Griffin remarked, "Holy crap!" and proceeded to leave the goal unattended as he rushed forward toward the deceased. One unidentified member of the Tooninators' staff commented, "Oh my God, he killed Kenny!" As Manuëlo Ángelo proceeded to score a goal into the now-empty Qazox net, another voice was heard exclaiming, "You bastards!"

McCormick did, however, make an appearance at a press conference after the match, apparently alive at the time. Further investigation is underway.

Monarchs Start With a Win

The Quakmybush National Hockey Team started off with in a win in the first ever World Cup of Hockey. The team was taking on Cookesland, who we know nothing about. The team started out with a bang with Boris Sergeevic scoring on a wonderful passing play. Then Cookesland evened the score up near the end of the first period. Then Cookesland potted two quick in the second period. The Monarchs then got a goal late in the second period when Larus Johannson wired one from the point to make it 3-2. The Monarchs came out ready to play in the third. Dale Hughes hit the crossbar on a breakaway, but Alexander Kristof came in a chopped in the rebound, making it a 3-3 game. The Monarchs then got into some penalty touble, with Lex Dusty and Axel Roope taking penalties 27 seconds apart. The Monarchs managed to kill off this penalty, with tonnes of help from Marcel Meunier dit Bellerose. As Axel Roope exited the box he received a beautiful pass from Morty Xavier, and deked the Cookesland goalie seven way to Sunday. The Monarchs had pulled ahead 4-3, and that it how the game ended.

From the Drawing Board to the Virtual Domain...

As indicated by a teaser sketch image, Vilita & Turori are in fact competing in the World Cup of Hockey, despite failing to show up for their first match against Allegheny County 2, a game in which a group of imposters took the ice and lost miserably. Vilita & Turori officials have challenged the match result, but have little leverage as they did fail to show up to the match in the first place, so if any result is achieved, the 4-1 defeat is likely to be switched to a 0-3 forfeit defeat, having no impact on the final standings. Monarchs Clinch in an Exciting Game

The Quakmybush Monarchs continued their winning streak in a barn burner of a game, and have now clinched moving on to the round of 16. The Monarchs were taking on group leaders Corneliu. The Monarchs came out very slowly allowing Corneliu to take a 3-0 lead after the first period. Then early in the second the Monarchs finally tickled the twine, when Olivier Lemelin stole the puck off a defenders stick rushed in a put the puck in the top corner to make it 3-1. Then Corneliu scored another one only one minute later to make the score 4-1. Then on a powerplay, some wonderful passing resulted in a goal for Morty Xavier, who was pinching at the time. The score was now 4-2. That was the score going into the third and final period. The Monarchs came out flying, and it paid off, Juhan Kalju made a wonderful pass to Joby Roscoe, who tipped the pass over to Thorbjron Torgny, it was now 4-3. The clock was becoming the Monarchs enemy, with 1:02 left the Monarchs pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. The puck came back to Wilford Denis, who shot the puck at the net. A mad scramble ensued, with Evgenji Sozontovic finally putting the puck in the net. The score was 4-4. The Bedistani crowd went nuts. The game went to overtime, and it solved nothing, to the shootout the game went. Since this is international play, it is a five round shoot-out. Corneliu went first and scored. Then Rene Carriere went and put the biscuit in the basket. The teams traded scores to make it 2-2 after 2 shots. Then Corneliu missed and Axel Roope scored. Corneliu missed again. Next up, was Dale Hughes, if he scored, he would win the game, he made no mistake. Quakmybush had won the game and clinched a spot in the round of 16.

"Great Panda of Canada, I can't believe we won!" Hermes Conrad said, sparking up and taling a big hit.

"Allright men..and ladies. We won, but by not enough as we aren't into the next round yet... Damn. Must increase scoring.. but how?" Asked Stewie Griffin.

"HEY... WHO ATE MY CHEZZY POOFS!?!? DAMN JEWS.. EATING MY CHEEZY POOFS" Cartman said, and no one listened.

"Wait a minute.. I have an idea" Peter Griffin said. (flash to voice over plan involving a Rube Goldberg devise to score goals)

"No.. that won't work. We need more Robots. Robots to kill all humans" muttered Bender to himself.

"Well, doesn't matter one more game and VICTORY SHALL BE MINE...um Ours." Stewie said, once again to an empty locker room.

There was stunned silence... they won, perhaps it was just because the other teams where as bad as a team that only had months to learn how to play Ice Hockey being coached by the Worst coach in the OHL. Things seemed to be stacked against from the Bazalonians from the begining but they keep pushing the other teams, first the Roryvillians were taken to penalty shoot-outs and now the win against Vilita and Turori, but really a V&T team would be almost as bad as a Pacitalian team in the AOSAC.So despite being bad the other teams seemed to be even worse, if not sameish.

In Group H, What's with this and groups. in the World Cup group stages Bazalonia had been in the first group, Group A and now in the World Cup of (Ice) Hockey they were in group H (the last group). Perhaps this was a sign of just how poorly they thought the team or perhaps it was purely by chance. Perhaps it was all an international conspiracy, somehow related to Bedistan attempting to brown-nose the President of the World Cup Committee.

No one knows and no one, in Bazalonia cares, "It's only Ice Hockey afterall"

Valerians Developing Losing Streak
Officials Blame Lack of Ice in The Empire

The sad state that the national hockey team has gotten into might be due to the fact that there are few glaciers in the empire, a study suggest. Most people in the empire know that the best ice is all in Nikeah, where the French-speakers of that state keep it to themselves. "It's not fair!" cries a random Valerian off the street in Isangrad. "They have a monopoly on ice and we want some, too! Share ice for everyone!"

Of course, it is likely that ice has no factor at all in the team's performance. A professor rebuffed that ice can be easily synthesized too... by using a freezer.

While Valerians waste time trying to find out why their national team has been sucking for the past couple of games, the new team members have gotten off to a good start in terms of injuries and fights abroad. In Magnus Valerius, hockey tends to bar fights and heavy contact (it's taboo), but once the Valerians go overseas on the national team, this old doctrine is history. In the match against Kuczerica, Jahan Shahroukh roughed up one of the opponents with his hockey stick. Jean "Le Guerrier" lived up to his name and knocked out one of the reserve goalies. Alexander Samsonov lost his first tooth in a game. Yes, while Valerians may be doing horrible in the winning department, they are at least doing great in brawls, making sure that they are known for their fights rather than their playing style.

CORNELIU SPORTS NETWORK

"This was a tough one for the Corneliu Penguins as they lost a heartbreaker to the Quakmybush Monarchs. In a game that they thought they had in hand, Quakmybush came back and defeated the Fightin' Pens in a shootout.

"This was a very tough one to take as it forces us to defeat Cookesland otherwise we are geoing home. This team was not put together to go home after the 1st round."

That was the general after the tough loss. The Pens got the ball rolling early as they scored the first two goals of the game, including a powerplay goal by the team captain, Lawrence Sheridan.

It was 2-1 when the Pens went up by two again with a goal by a 3rd line defender. It was tied up in quick succession as the penalty minutes piled up by the Pens and it was 4-4 at the end of regulation.

In Overtime, the pens had many chances to end the game but the Quakmybush goalie either came up big or their defense stepped up its game.

In the shoot out, our star goalie could not stop their shooters whereas we were stopped twice and thus lost.

Next up for the Pens is Cookesland and we'll carry that game live. That's all from Bedistan. Good night.

"This is Evan Colder reporting live from the hot streets of San Monticaz, an unlikely location for a sport involving ice, where the Commonwealth's first ever 'Hockey on Ice' team have just won for the second time in what I can only describe as a run of dumb luck as our players seem to have no real idea what in the verse they are doing, but somehow are getting results. One more win from their final match against bottom side Demot will see Fort Europe slide easily through to the knockout phase of this 'Hockey on Ice' World Cup where they could be drawn against more challenging sides such as Milchama and Elves Security Forces, or even the hosts Bedistan before they can reach the cup final. Fort Europe, who played this match once again clad in thermal clothing and sheepskin coats did manage to sport a team kit. Unfortunately it was not theirs but the United Island Empire's team kit which was cunningly swapped for a bag of sweaty socks after the opening match while they wern't looking. Fort Europe beat San Monticaz by four goals to one away from home in Group A to put them two points clear at the top of the table with only one group match left to play."

Terry: Aaaand we're back! Sorry, we had a malfunction in the Pantheran Municipal power grid, resulting in the the third blackout this month!

Johnny: Yes, it sure is a bitch, being a second-world country, but at least we aren't from that one country. That really dirty one. *looks into camera, points accusingly* You know the one I mean.

Jackie: Yes, indeed. I sure hate those smelly bastards. And speaking of smelly bastards and lines from Futurama, let's go over this ridiculous match, now that we're back on air! Johnny, run us through!

Johnny: A surprise 4-2 loss, *game highlights roll* Star keeper Martin Kolzig had a spectacular game, despite letting 4 goals, he got a .900 save average, with 36 saves! *Martin Kolzig makes saves like crazy* In the first period, during a power play (for roughing on the part of Adam Jarvis, naturally), parapalegic Joe Swanson got credit for a goal, despite the surprisingly talented Snake Jailbird doing all the work. *Jailbird slaps it from the blue line, deflects off the stick of the supine Swanson* One down going into the second, James Wretzchy gets a couple biscuits in the basket, and puts Tiger Army in the lead. *Wretzchy scores one skilled wrister from the slot on a breakaway. Gets a second goal off a one-time shot, passed by Alexei Tvarda* However, in the third period, it was all the Tooninators. Two goals were off power play. *Two dirty goals slip past Kolzig* And, at the very end of the game, the Tooninators showed their true colours with this underhanded play: *Kolzig gets charged, flattened, and knocked off the crease by Turanga Leela. The penalty is not called, and the loose puck bounces off of Homer Simpson's and slides into the goal* Of course, that did not rest well with anyone.

Terry: Yes, with two seconds left in the game, a massive brawl broke out, both on the ice and in the stands. Several members of the Tiger Army Ultras were arrested, after a number of Qazox Tooninator boosters were stabbed, some of them requiring hospitalization.

Jackie: On top of that, riot police in all of GTRs major cities were busy for days, trying to calm the rioters that were demanding that the Pantheran government declare war on Qazox immediately. Nearly fifty deaths have been reported.

Johnny: The refereeing in that match was reprehensible. It was almost as if the zebras were under a spell of the Qazox squad or something. It was beyond ridiculous.

Terry: Agreed. Moving along: the game with Bedistan.

Jackie: It is essential that we win this game, or we will be eliminated from the Cup, by the winner of the Nitrodymium-Qazox game. This is an embarrassment that the demoralized people of GTR couldn't take at the moment.

Johnny: Much of the weight falls on the shoulders of the young Ivan Tetsky, and veteran Micky Ward. Their performance faltered in the last game, but it was beyond superb in the game against Nitrodymium. It's very necessary that they perform well against Bedistan, because they'll serve as an anchor for Tiger Army.

Terry: Definitely. More after the break, it's time for a commercial!

CORNELIU SPORTS NETWORK

Welcome back sports fans. In case you missed it, it was a barnstorming game between the Corneliu Penquins and Cookesland. In a back and forth game that saw three fights and four ejections, our beloved Penquins defeated Cookesland 2-1.

The star of this game has to go to the goalie who stopped an onslaught of shots from the stars of Cookesland. On the other end, their goalie came up big but it was our goalie that stopped key shots late in the game securing the victory.

In the first period, the game was tied at zero when the first fight broke out with 5 minutes left to play. A cheap shot by Daniel Picard on their team captain resulted in a fight between them. A punch by him knocks the Cookesland player to the ice and he got another punch right to the nose. He was ejected from the game but that was just the start.

In the second period, Lawrence Sheridan scored the first goal of the game and during his celebration, he gets shoved down to the ice by a Cookesland cross-check which resulted in the second fight of the game. This time, the Cookesland player was tossed out of the game for the unsportsmanlike.

Nearing the end of the period, the third fight broke out when Lawrence Sheridan "accidentially" slides into the goalie and this time, an entire brawl breaks out between the two teams. At the end of the brawl, two players from each team were ejected and the penalty box was full with matching minors for roughing. The period ended with a 1-1 draw where the final 3 minutes of hockey was 3-3.

In the third period, Corneliu scored in the 3rd minute by Lawrence Sheridan again. This time, no fight broke out and the game resumed. Cookesland fought tooth and nail to tie the score up but was unable to do so as Peter Keegan stepped up his game and stopped the 15 third period shots and earns our second star of the game.

Next up for the Fightin' Pens is the Elvian Security Forces in the sweet 16.

That's all from here. Now it is on to Bedistan for the knockout phase.

Monarchs Go Perfect In Group Round

The Quakmybush Monarchs closed out the group round with a win over Daniel The Man. The Monarchs had already clinched a spot, but still wanted to win to have momentum going into the round of 16. Daniel The Man struck first on a good passing play on a powerplay. The Monarchs responded early in the second when Sepi Landon took a wrist shot from the top of the circle that found the top corner. The score stayed that way until when Aleksandr Pavlovic drove the net and tipped in a point shot from Aleksander Valter making it 2-1 Quakmybush. The Monarchs will continue onto the Round of 16 where they will take on Oliverry.

Johnny: Excellent performances out there, by all players. Micky Ward shows his PK talents yet again, with his absolutely stunning breakaway goal in the first period. Adam Jarvis gets taken off, for boarding. *Jarvis smashes into Diego Mason, who is standing on the icing line. Diego flies into the boards behind the net* On the face-off, Micky Ward wins, passes to little Terry Jarvis, who passes it back to Ward. Ward slips past the defense, fires it from the slot. Hong Sol-gi makes a pad save... and Ward catches it and slams it home!

Terry: A very nice goal indeed. The Porcupines quickly rally, and return fire: Dylan Philips scores, with a slapper from the blue line. A very nice screen play.

Jackie: The Porcs would continue to play well for the rest of the game, racking up a good 37 shots. However, Martin Kolzig's performance in this game was stellar. *Kolzig makes a series of amazing saves*

Johnny: Yes, and the Tiger Army shooters didn't do too bad, either! Snipers Jeremy Beech and James Wretzchy managed to make a trio of goals. Very nice playing on their part.

Jackie: And, so, due to this win, Tiger Army is going to the next round, along with surprise winners Nitrodymium! Who are we playing next?

Terry: Kuczerica, who are largely unknowns, despite putting up a decent showing in the knockout round. We'll be playing in the Spalding Megadome, in Griffin.

Jackie: Well, it's going to be a tough fight, but our boys'll win out in the end.

OOC: When'll the next round be played?
Also, is it the next round single-elimination, or something better... I mean, else?

Though it may just be the first edition, the Calcuttas are feeling a good sence of pride after securing a spot in the knockouts, and finishing the groups stage with a perfect 3-0-0 record. What was expected to be an exciting match against the Aroras on Ice from Bettia proved up to its' billing, being an end to end game with a total of nine goals, the Calcuttas coming out the victor with the final scoreline of five to four.

The big three for the Calcuttas really showed up for this game, with Walker, Osefrus, and Fressis all playing to their potential. Walker was able to feet Osefrus twice in the first period, the first coming on a powerplay after Kapenen had been tripped up in the nuetral zone half the way through in the period. The second came with thirty seconds left to go in the frame, as Osefrus came out of the box, serving a tripping minor by Wardell, and Walker found him on the liberating pass, and Osefrus converted on the breakaway with ease, going with a fake to his left, and flipping the puck between his knees and five hole on the goalie. The assist prone walker would get his due early in the third after Bettia dominated the second period, getting all four of their goals in a three minute time frame. Kapenen, on the end of a shift, had gotten to a loose puck in the corner, and centered it, where Walker was waiting to lift it up over the shoulder of the keeper. Koula scored by fourty seconds later, as found himself with a two on one, and was able to blast one past the blocker side of the keeper. Fressis would get the winner, as he and Walker played a two man game in the corner, and when the defenders finally bit on Walker, he was able to slice it to Fressis in the slot, who got a cannon of a shot off and past the disgruntled back up.

For their efforts, the Calcuttas gets to face off against Corneliu in the "Sweet 16". Corneliu finsihed second in the weaker Group E compeition, with only the Monarchs of Quakmybush proving a real talented side, with the Corneliuns taking out the the underpowered Cookesland and Daniel The Man squads to make the progression. We believe that they are not a true threat to topple the squad, as they could not even spell the nation's name correctly despite being provided a pamplet with all the names of the players, the nation, and the nickname of the squad. It may be just a typo of their press, which are usually escusable, but when you misspell another nation's name so blatently, a call of common sence an intelegence must be made. Regardless, it will be an interesting match, as the Corneliu squads brings in a high octane offence, one that scored fourteen goals in the group stage, against the shutdown blueline of the Calcuttas, who only allowed six goals in the group stage, four in the final game against the Aroras. As the clash of strengths make so, it should be the navy clad elfs whom the scales tip in favor for, as their offence was nearly as explosive as the the Corneliuns, netting eleven goals in the group. A win might just boost the interest in the sport enough to have the EHL moved back onto the primetime slot on tuesday, thursaday, and sunday nights on the Elven Sports Network.

Valerians Defeat the Swilatians 4-1

After a stunning two-day losing streak in which Valerians earned more points while fighting, the Kniazes come back to exact a win over the presumably Polish Swilatians. Two stunning goals came when John "Le Guerrier" outmanouvered a confused Swilatian defense as Shahroukh and Nizarov came in and passed in a puck after a fight broke out between a Swilatian and Friedrich Herberstein. d'Ardenne made in the goal, and Shahroukh was tripped and fell flat on his face. Le Guerrier came in and threatened a fight with the Swilatian defenceman, but it was resolved when Shahroukh made in his penalty shot.

Next, d'Ardenne attacked the unenthusiastic Swilatians (who seem to not enjoy hockey all too much, given they have released no team). He went on alone. The Valerians cheered and though that the Valerians actually could win this time around.

Of course, the Swilatians didn't want to go down scoreless and made a goal, but it was hopleless for them when they failed to get any more goals and when Yoshimasa came in and sent in a puck past their goalie's head, sealing the game for the Valerians.

Iron Isn't So Tough

The Quakmybush Monarchs took on Ironwell in the Round of 16 in the 1st World Cup of Hockey. The Monarchs were hoping to win, and advance to the quarter finals. The game started out poorly for the Monarchs, with Ironwell scoring 2 goals in the first period. The Monarchs woke up late in the second when Olivier Lemelin made no mistake from the top of the slot to make it a 2-1 game. The Monarchs then gained some more momentum when Lex Dusty dropped the gloves with an Ironwell forward. Dusty was given the decision. While Dusty was in the box, Sepi Landon tipped in a Morty Xavier wrist shot from the point. 2-2 was the score going into the third and final period. In the second half of the period the Monarchs finally took the lead. Evgenij Sozontovic made a perfect pass to Julian Severe who found the back of the net and made it 3-2 Quakmybush. In the dying seconds, Marcel Meunier dit Bellerose made a spectacular glove save to keep it a 3-2 game. The buzzer went and the Monarchs had advanced to the quarter finals. Jawalski: Well, it's because our team was at the top of the group when the group stage was over, and that's because it had the highest poing and GD, and thats because we won most matches rather easily. I'm not sure why that is though. I'd bet that it was a pure coincidence, and that we will NOT win.

Wiadzase: I agree with you, we have no chance of winning this. Now, we still need to come up with a match desription.

Jawalski: You do that.

Wiadzase: Okay. So in the first part, no goals, then the second and third ones both have 2 goals, one for us, and on for Nitrodymium. After that, the match goes into extra time, and we score a goal there, winning the match. The End.

Jawalski: You call that a decription?? Even a time list of when the goals are scored will give more information then that. That's not a descripton, it's just useless. Maybe I should not have had you do this, and rather have someone else give on, and then say it myself on this show.

Wiadzase: Well, maybe it does not say much about the match, but it tells much more then what most Swilatians would care to know anyway. I don't think they would need any description. As for those few Swilatia who care, they can just actually attempt watch the match. Or maybe even move to a country where hockey matches are shown on TV.

Jawalski: Fine. Be that way. Maybe we just don't do a show for any more matches in this tourney, and we leave that to these idiots called "hockey fans"

Wiadzase: Good Idea. Tommorow we find something else to talk about.

"...Fall asleep for just a second and you miss a world of... wait are we... damn it, see what I mean. Good evening this is Evan Colder reporting live once again from a frozen lakeside in Ascama Province where the Commonwealth's Ice Hockey team has apparently just breezed past another team, at least thats what they're telling me. I really haven't grasped this sport so I have no idea what was going on out there, but it seems we managed to put the black disc thing into the goal net being defended by the Rorysville team four times, and they only put it in our net once. To be quite honest, I couldn't even see the black disc they call a puck for most of the match as it seemed to fly all over the place. However I am assured that forward player Freedom Covanna, who you will remember plays Football for Division One side Fern Foxes and gave us that wonderful interview after the opening match of this world cup, scored all four of the goals, one in each quarter of the match giving him a total of eight scored so far in this tournament. Quakmybush will be the team next to for our hero's to play in their Quarter Final match and for some reason the team are highly confident that they can beat them and go on to the final. Thats all I have time for unfortunately but I'll be back next week with the report from the Quarter Final and an interview with team manager Tim Lessinger."

As beautifully as such an event is to see, well what we theoritically can, it is what the Calcuttas will be trying to avoid as they just did scrape past the Corneliu squad in a shootut. Clearly, their overconfiedence was their undoing, and what nearly cost them progression. However: Sergei Osefrus, Martin Fressis, and Michael Walker all converted on their attempts, and Wardell let in one out of two to seal the deal for the elves. Their oppisition in the next round if not a country, but a county by the name of Allegheny County 2. Whle the Calcuttas highly doubt that a single county can produce enough talent on ice to supply an entire national team, they are not going to go into the match relaxed and expecting their oppisition to fall over and die as they try to advance onto the semis in this inagural tournament.

The Calcuttas were hot out of the gate, winning the opening face off and began to entrich themselves in the offensive zone. After weaving their way aruond the defenders and looking for that final pass to pop it in, and there was, Fressis from Koula and Titenburg, at 2:17 to put the squad up quick. However Corneliu would rebound quickly, getting the equaliser at 11:52, and going ahead at 18:31. Down, but not out of it, the squad came out with a hard fought second, taking the play to their oppisition. They were finishing all of their checks, winning all of the battle along the boards, and to the loose pucks, but the keeper was performing out of his mind, stopping all twenty of the shots in the period and freeing up their first lines center coming out of the box at 17:32 to have a go free on Wardell, and using a nifty backhand to send it five hole on the keeper.

Three to one going into the third, the squad was going to dig deep and try to get this even. The breaks were going the Marauders way, but twice the post stimeyed them after they had takren a great shot and beat the keeper. However, a little luck fell by their side with about half of the period remainign, as the top two defenvcemen were cal;led for penalities withint ten seconds of each other. The first was a tripping minor when he took down Kapenen was he was navigating along the boards. On the ensueing face off, Corneliu won it, and the defender tried clearing it, only to see it sail into the stands and he was called for a delay of game. With the two man advantage, it wasn't long until Walker found a seem in the diamond and tapped it in. Titenburg was next up, after Walker had won the face off, he skooted in and fired a hard wrister that handcuffed the keeper and drew the sides level. The rest of the affair got gritty, until the "skills competition" where the Calcuttas made quick work of their foes.

Onto the quarters where the 'Cuttas are looking like easy favorites to progress. The squad will also be scoreboard watching, as they look forward to their regionmates of Fort Europe to try and topple the Monarchs of Quakmybush. A small following has gathered for our brothers of the TYW region, and will be rooting them on, hopefully as they progress along with the ESF squad in the semis.

Well, I'll admit, starting hockey team for Swilatia was a crazy idea. But do you know what's even more crazy? This team had reached the semi-finals, just after winning a rather chaotic match against Milchama. Why do I say it's so chaotic? Well, take a look at the scoreline, 6-5, and that should be the first sign. Now for the match itself, it looked like we were about to lose, as in the first period, Milchama scored four goals, and we scored none.

Second period looked a bit better, with us scoring goals at 4 minutes, 11 minutes, and 16 minutes. However, Milchama scored a goal as well, at 7 minutes, so we were still thinking that we would lose. Oh well, it's not like my country would care.

Now, into the third period, thats when things started to look better. We scored 3 goals, givng us 6 goals total and a lead. We were sure that Milchama would tie the game, tossing it into overtime, but they did not. This means that we win, and go into the semi-finals, facing the team from Elves security forces. Not sure how that would go though.

Monarchs Advance To Semis

The Quakmybush National Hockey Team played their biggest game ever. The team was taking on Fort Europe in the quarter-finals. The Monarchs were ready to play, and you could tell. Early in the first period, Rene Carriere found himself with a puck, and a wide open net, who knew what to do, and made it 1-0 Monarchs. Then it looked grim for the Monarchs when a Fort Europe player scored 4 goals before the period was over. Most people thought it was over, but the Monarchs didn't think so. In the second, tough guy Joby Roscoe was digging in front of the net and he tapped the puck in the net, making it a 4-2 game. Late in the second, Wilford Denis let a canon go from the blue line that went top corner, this made it a 4-3 game. Going into the third, the Monarchs clearly had the momentum. Boris Sergeevic sprung Sepi Landon on a break away, Landon let a wrister go from the top of the slot and he tied the game up at fours. It looked like the game was going to head to and extra frame. However late in the third, Sergeevic was behind the net, he tried to pass it out front, however it hit a Fort Europe defenceman and went into the net. Then late in the game, Evgenjii Sozontovic scored into an empty net. The Monarchs had won the game and have advanced to the semi-finals.

Move Along

After some minor confusion caused by the hosts, that had the Raynor City Rangers playing Quakmybush in an exihbition to be declared the initial scores, the actual fixtures that took place were declared, and the Calcuttas smooth victory over Allegheny County 2 was made public. The affair was near domionation in the favor of the 'Cuttas, and only a late 6v3 powerplay goal tarnished Wardell's night. With that said, the squad showed some great showmanship despite the obvious difference in talent between the two squads, exchanging jerseys with Allegheny after the game. This type of respect between oppenents is something that needs to be seen more of, we need positive images of a rivalry over those of hate disgust that is often seen nowadays.

Martin Koula reallly lived up to his billing this match, playing against the oppenets top line the entire game, and effectively shut down their offensive threat. On the other end, the top tier defencemen netted two power play goals, as well as assisting on Jere Kapanens short handed goal early in the third, that virtually closed the door on the outcome of the match. Michael Walker and Sergei Osefrus also continued their upbeat play, each of them collecting two points on the night. Wardell was on top form, stopping twenty-four of twenty-five shots, as well as collecting the rarely seen assist from the goalie positon. To be fair, the entire squad is performing like they have smething to play for, and not just idiotic pride that many players let get to their head, and Allegheny played hard despite the descrepancy in talent.

Up next in the Swilatia squad who was able to edge out a Milchama side in the Quarters in a very high scoring affair. The Swilatia side presents another challange for the Calcuttas, as they are the only squad besides Bettia to present an hgih octane offence that can create scoring oppurutunites out of nothing. While the 'Cuttas have one of the best defences up to this point in the tournament, they are going to have their hands full with this attack. Whichever one of the squad's stregnths is stronger in the next match will likely come out the winner. Fressis for the Calcuttas really needs to bring his top game as it has been quite visably absent so far if the squad is to have a better chance to win than they do at this time.

"This is Evan Colder reporting once again from the Ascama Mountains where the Commonwealth's national side have ended their heroic debut in what must be the wierdest extreme sport ever to have been played within the Commonwealth's borders. Until a couple of months ago no one here had even thought of trying to play our much loved sport of Hockey on a field made of ice, but clearly someone was mad enough to think of it and two months later the team are heralded as one of the top sixteen teams in NationStates. I for one would never have thought in a million cycles that this mixture of sports men and women taken from various other sports around the Commonwealth could do so well, but they have. Unfortunatly they were not able to work the same mirical against Quakmybush as they had against their other opponants and so will progress no further in the tournament, but those who were here playing, suporting or even the odd few off you watching from home will remember this sporting triumph as nothing less than miraculous.
The disappointment of being knocked out in the quarter finals has also been met with further disappointment for the Commonwealth Sports Council who have been refused permission to build a regulation Ice Hockey arena which would have provided the foundation for the sport to progress after a health and safety report. The report highlighted several key areas, in particular it stated that the ice it's self would be in direct contradiction to the Commonwealth Health and Safety laws as firstly the temperature needed to maintain the ice would be well below the minimum legal limit for a working environment and secondly the surface of the ice would be a slip hazard and would require a friction mat overlay in order to meet regulations. The Sports Council are apealing against the decision, but even if they succeed in getting approval it is unlikely the arena will be built within the next cycle."

Monarchs March On

The Quakmybush National Hockey Team took on Khenas in the semi-finals of the first ever World Cup of Hockey. Monarchs win, they move on to the final. They came out sloppy, like always, a Khenas player scored late in the first to make it 1-0 going into the intermission. Early in the second the Monarchs equalized, when Dale Hughes found the back of the net. Making it a 1-1 tie. That was the score going into the third and final frame. About half way through the third, a wonderful game of tic-tac-toe broke out with Boris Sergeevic coming out on the receiving end and tickling the twine to make it a 2-1 game. The Khenas squad was pressing hard near the end of the game but Marcel Meunier dit Bellerose committed some absolute highway robbery to keep it 2-1. Evgenij Sozontovic added an empty netter to make it 3-1. Up next for the Monarchs are Elves Security Forces.

Making Your Own Legend

As the trek continues on for the Calcuttas, making their last step towards greatness tonight when they will vie with the Monarchs of Quakmybush, one must wonder how much a championship might bring back the following it had a few years back. Many of those devout followers fell to the way of footy, and now proudly wave the banners of the Marauders in their sport, but would a win bring those supporters back. I would like to tell you it would, and that the prime networks would reestablish national hockey night, but we can't be sure of anything. The only thing that has been constant this tournament for the squad and country, is the play of of captain Michael Walker, who continues to produce at least two points a night on average. If the Calcuttas do take home the trophy after tonights tilt, there will be no doubt who will be the MVP of the tournament. When you put a team on your back, and take them through a championship run, you deserve the hardware that accompanies such achievements.

The first period was a fiesty affair, each team trying to bully the other off the puck and put in the rebounds when possible. It would be the Swilitians who would win the period though, taking a three to one lead thanks to a hat trick by their first line's right winger. However, for the first time in the tournamnet, Martin Fressis was visable out there on the ice, and he benefited from his higher level of play, taking in a Koula rebound and smashing it back in to keep the squad within striking distance.

And strike they would, with Sergei Osefrus taking the pass from Tatum on the opening draw, dishing it ahead to Defriance who took the line and neatly deked out the defender to produce a two on one. Closing in on net, Defriance made the last second dish that snuck beneath the leg of the defender, and right onto the tape of Osefrus' stick and directed top corner of the goal to bring the team within a goal. Osefrus would get caught on the ice during a bad change with Walker, but that turned to gold for the 'Cuttas as he freed Walker on clearing attempt, and it was off to the races, with the captain going shot all the way on the keeper, and putting it past him on the glove side to even it up half way through the period, but alas, not a goal was to be found in the duration.

The third turned out to be the deciding factor, as it usually does, but with an imphatic oomph from the Calcuttas offence to send them into the finals. Walker had held in a dump in early in the third, and had two defenders on his back, but managed to slip away just for the second he needed to center the puck, where Clemens was waiting to tip it in, five hole on the screened goalie. The fourthe line was getting some unusal time on the ice during a crucial part of the game, when they pulled off a spectacular goal, thanks to good movement of the puck. Buertus heled in the corner, and dropped it off to Donomian, who took his place. Donomian gave it back to Buertus who sent it towards the slot where Marcus one timed a slap shot past the keeper, who was being screened by his own defender. The final goal came from Kapanen, who poke cheked a attempt to bring the puck into the Calcutta'z zone in the last minute, all the way down the ice and into the empty net.
