Intro
Expedition the Deep Desert is an guided adventure and archaeology roleplay into the deep desert of the restricted area of the Desert of Kadron, the only true desert in Aerion. To summary, it is the home of an ancient lost civilization that existed in southern Aerion. The deserts were used for weapons testing by dictator Erne Morn, and so have been off limits due to health hazards since. The mountains to the west of the desert were also a source of rare uranium deposits. These are also off-limits. Very little research or archaeological expeditions has been done in the deeper desert. Dangerous dust storms due to unusually high winds have prevented safe travel by air over the desert. It has remained restricted airspace, and groundspace even by the current Royal Government. Largely, and publicly due to the former weapons testing as well as associated health hazards. The western area of the desert has high radiation levels, and the Erkuan Mountains on the western side of the desert have (presumably) closed uranium mines.


The Precursor

ICly an wealthy Aerionian businessman, presumably a corporate executive, has hired retired Professor Esjon Divar, a former archaeologist from the Royal Aerionian History Museum, and prestigious member of the Royal Archaeological Institute to hire members for an expedition. The Professor is often considered a bit on the "fringe" by his colleagues, and is known to be secretive with his research though what is known of what he researches is considered fringe. For instance, for his paper "The Occult Archaeological History of Aerion" he was almost dismissed from his job. The Professor has decided to recruit for the expedition internationally, in order to hopefully hide the results of the findings from the Aerionian archaeological community or anyone for that matter. It is a secret expedition, and so the Professor has been working very secretly. It is also largely illegal, because the area is still a restricted area by the government.

Joining

You may join by ICly responding to Professor Esjon's note. Most likely he contacted your character because your is also a fringe researcher, so to speak. The best characters would be ones interested in occultism, archaeology, esoteric knowledge, etc. They do not necessarily have to be a professor or archeologist, they could be an known amateur that is good at it.

Or your character could be a professional mercenary that typically goes with such archaeological expeditions to dangerous places and countries. (Not too over the top with this please)

Often described as a workaholic and dedicates himself fully to his work. He is also an advent outdoorsman.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am currently recruiting for an archaelogical and research expedition to the desert of Kadron in southern Aerion. This is an dangerous, but potentially very fruitful endeavour. We are being sponsored by an wealthy Aerionian businessman, who wishes to remain unnamed. I have enclosed some of the known history of this desert.

The pay for this mission, if successful, will be A£200,000 each. This seems high, but our sponsor truly wants this to be a success. Even without success, we will each receive A£50,000 for our efforts.


Due to the secrecy of this project, please keep all communications with utmost discreteness. I have put on here a number you may reach me at. Please consider bringing standard camping equipment for a desert environment, as well as any tools you may have. Pack lightly.

Brief Background:Daughter of the infamous archeologist / tomb raider “Last Chance” Jones. Her mother, Sierra T’sai, died of an unidentified fever when Michiko was three years old. Her father raised her at the varied archeological sites he worked, schooling her himself and keeping her away from civilization. Michiko was sixteen when her father died at a remote archeological ‘dig’ in western Tanara. She buried him as per his last request and tried to continue working the site herself. However during the unusually winter Michiko fell gravely ill with pneumonia and nearly died herself before the local authorities found her. She was released from the guardianship of the State at age eighteen, and found employment with Allard Industries as a member of their private security forces, becoming a ‘plank owner’ in the mega-corporation’s Omega Team; Code Named: Expendable. When the laws in Tanara changed to allow what were, in effect, private security ‘armies’ the Omega Team was disbanded. Michiko and other of the surviving Expendables formed Omega II. Michiko and Omega II survived, the corporation flourishing, as it became the leading provider of special operatives, rapid response teams, and highly trained security personnel.

Vastly wealthy Michiko does not need to work but takes long vacation to explore mysteries her father never managed to solve, or hunt down new mysteries of her own.

During all of this Michiko attened the Tanaran Royal University, taking courses as she could. She has earned two Doctorates, but due to her heritage is considered... controversial...

I created this character to play as the 'spiritual' daughter of Indiana Jones, ( and yes she wears a fedora) but in a modern day setting ( she was created in the mid eighties, long before Laura Croft was even thought of, but she's much like the famous Tomb Raider, just a bit more scholarly )

OOC: I contemplated the option of him being a mercenary. Then I contemplated the option of making him an archeologist… and in the end…

Skills: Latin, Greek, Quenya, Sindarin, several other ancient languages paleography, utilizing various small arms and driving a car (winner of the Nomon County 3-Gun championship and bronze medalist in the Concord University Humanities Department 3-Gun championship)

Brief background: Ian is a typical Allanean young man. He has graduated from a Demented Schooling Corporation school in Liberty-City. After that, he had easily passed the entrance exams at Concord University, Allanea’s best and most prestigious body. On he went to graduate with a BA in Classical Studies (Latin specialiszation) at the age of 21.

But then, Ian felt the call of adventure. He joined the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, patrolling the Allanean-Azahan border against illegal immigrants. This continued for half a year, a time in which Ian has managed to get himself injured, kill two ‘desert foxes’ – immigrant smugglers from Azaha who were not quite as good with their weapons as an Allanean – and bring about the arrest and deportation of over 450 illegals.

It was not much of an adventure, but for a young man like Ian, it was awesome. He went on to run for Sheriff of Sererebyani County in San-Nereiana, and the local citizens elected him in a landslide (to be fair, there were only about fifteen hundred of them).

Ian served as Sheriff for three years, coordinating protection of his section of the border with the Border Patrol and numerous private militias, as well as helping arrest fifteen car thiefs and a single child molester.

After his term had expired, Ian had returned to his studies, completing an MA in Classical Studies, with additional courses related to archeology. He participated in numerous digs throughout Allanea.

Now he emerged upon the world as a wannabe mercenary and scientist all in one, looking for money to earn – and perhaps some material for a doctorate, too. Who knows…

Would you be agreeable to female 17 year-old engineering wunderkind being in the party? I would envisage her being a genius with anything mechanical or electronic. Of course, that would mean she would wouldn't receive an invitation. Perhaps she knows Professor Divar already and simply ingratiates herself into the expedition.

If you've seen the anime film, Porco Rosso, she would be like the young aircraft engineer, Fio.

Like all Errinundrians, she would have no para-military skills and would be quite unfamiliar with deserts.

History: Christopher Galloway was born in the rual areas of southern Osteia about 100 miles from the port city of Bellomo. Chris joined the Royal Osteian Marine Corps at the age of 18, he excelled at his training both mental and physical. After four Galloway was selected to go through a training program for the Osteian Special Service Force that trained him in scout sniping, explosives, hand to hand, covert operations, stealth, recon and HALO jumping. Chris did very well but one day he had found out that his parents were killed in a car accident along with his younger brother, Galloway fell apart and into a deep depression, even though he was egar to continue his training the military didn't see him as stable due to confrontations with fellow military personell, officers, ect...

This resulted in a discharge

Galloway returned home and took up drinking for quite some time and then one day the bills were not getting payed anymore, the power was cut off along with cable and phone...he knew his parents would be very upset with the way he was now, a drunken loser who had no job and nothing left to live for. After days of sitting in the dark house Chris knew how he would use things he already knew to make the money he needed and more...he would put his military skills to use as a bodyguard, gun for hire, contract himself to 'clients' who required his assistance. It took alot of work to get somthing going, military buddys were contacted who knew about this sort of thing, the word was put out, nessasary supplies were 'provided', such as tactical equipment, firearms, ammunition and many other important items vital to the buisness, compliments of the Osteian armed forces "Without their knowlage" of course. Chris received requests for his services several times shortly after everything was established, the lights, cable and phone were back on...

Things were beginning to get back on track...

doctor by trade, but also an amateur archaeologist skilled in linguistics, and knowledgable on many ancient languages. She became famous in the field for managing to create the first translaton of ancient Arvuyenic- something people thought impossible.
She has worked for many charities as a field doctor, starting and running medical clinics. She actively encourages local people to train as doctors to suceed her, and recently handed over control of her last clinic.
