Dear enterprising construction company,

By reading this message you have expressed interest in winning the rights to build Fattybolands first International Airport. Fattyboland is quickly becoming a top international tourist destination and the cruise ship terminal is currently operating beyond capacity. The site chosen for the airport is 20km south of the capital, Vina. The area is unpopulated and is covered in grass and light vegetation. The King has pledged an unlimited budget and as much space as required to the best and most innovating design. The airport needs to be able to process 50 million people annually with the enabling of future extentions to the airport. The best design will be picked January 1st 2008 - to give you time to come up with a unique and efficient design. On behalf of His Majesty King Xavier Odawarra, thank you and good luck

San Monticaz if needed will supply financial aid for the construction.

To the most generous leader of The Democratic Republic of San Monticaz,

I would like to thank you for your offer of Financial Aid towards the construction of the new international airport facility in Vina, Fattyboland. At this point in time we will decline your offer, as a nation of over 1.2 billion people we have enough money reserves for this construction and other unforeseen expenses. Instead, let His Majesty King Xavier and the united citizens of Fattyboland make you an offer. At this point in time we would like to offer you a peace treaty, to ensure peace between our 2 nations. After some further co-operation and collaboration the mention of an Alliance may arise, but at this time too little is known. Once again, we would like to thankyou for your kindness and generosity

We are deeply honoured to make a peace treaty, especially in a peaceful & calmest nation of ours. The closest we get to war is our peacekeeping operations throughout the troubled regions & are not a "violent" nation.

Vitrobriko Inc. wishes to propose the following to His Majesty King Xavier Odawarra:

Vina International Airport
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e159/new-wessex/Vina%20International%20Airport/Exterior1.jpg

A three-phase project designed to offer the nation of Fattyboland an international aiport to be proud of, a magnificent showpiece and suitable gateway for visitors to their shores. The new Vina International Airport will be an international showcase for the technological, environmental and economic achievements of Fattyboland. This will be reflected through its phased development, the design of its landmark buildings and surroundings, its world-class airport operations and its environmental conservation.

Landmark Facilities:
VIA facilities will include a passenger terminal, VIP terminal, air traffic control tower, cargo terminal and aircraft maintenance base, and advanced airport support systems. It will be among the first international airports to be built with ultra-large airliners such as the SuCO-1 quad-decker jet in mind.

Phase One
The first phase construction of the new airport will include two parallel runways (4,250m and 4,850m) designed specifically to accommodate the new Space Union SuCO-1 quad-decker jumbo. A three-storey terminal building will be constructed, including 24 contact gates and 140,000m² of floor space, of which 25,000m² will be dedicated as retail space. In addition, there will be seven remote gates. There will be three new major road interchanges to provide access to the new airport from the city and surrounding areas. The airport will have a luxury hotel and a transit hotel. The complex will also include a cargo terminal (750,000t/y), additional hard standing areas for the passenger terminal, hangar space for two SuCO-1s and three A380s at the same time and a maintenance centre. Finally the airport, which has been described as "a small city within a city" will include a business park, a free trade zone, a courier and mail facility and a general aviation facility.

Phases Two & Three
The second phase of construction will include the addition of a further 16 contact gates and an extension of the terminal building to 219,000m². In addition, there will be a suspended monorail system for passenger transit through the terminal. A further luxury hotel will be constructed to accommodate the additional passenger capacity of over 25 million per year passing through the airport.

The third phase will include the addition of a further 40 contact gates, which would bring the final total to 80. To accommodate the extra gates, the terminal building will extend to 416,000m² and would be capable of handling over 50 million passengers per year. The projected date for final completion is 2015. When fully completed the new Doha airport will be able to service six SuCO-1 Jumbos simultaneously. The airport will be the first in the world purpose-built to accommodate these aircraft.

Fascinating Facts

The new Vina International Airport will have a land area in excess of 22 square kilometres, the size of a small city.
Upon completion of Phase Three, the new airport will handle 50 million passengers, two million tonnes of cargo and 320,000 aircraft landings and takeoffs each year.
It's opening day capacity in 2009 will be 24 million passengers and 750,000 tonnes of cargo every year.
By opening day, as many as 8,700 passengers will be processed through the terminal complex in a single hour
VIA's eastern runway will be 4,850m long - one of the longest commercial runways in the world.
The new airport check-in and retail areas alone will be big enough to squeeze in ten wide body aircraft. When finished, this will make the journey through check-in much quicker, and the shopping experience more varied.
The control tower will be over 80 metres high and shaped like a crescent, providing a key night feature shining over the airport.
VIA will create thousands of airport, airline, government and private sector jobs for men and women in Fattyboland.
Over 100 hectares alongside the new airport will be reserved for commercial development. Private development oppurtunities include free trade zones, office and business parks, hotels and retail malls. This will diversify VIA revenues, and create more jobs for Fattyboland.
To conserve energy, the passenger terminal curtain walls are coated to reduce solar exposure, the roof overhang provides shade and the roof is insulated. The mechanical systems include CO2 sensors to regulate air intake based on occupancy.

When the new Vina International Airport opens in 2009 it will be a world-class facility with regard to design and operational efficiency.

OOC: RL problems have caused a further delay; however, here is a tentative proposal

IC: Members of the Government of Fattyboland; Arrow Construction Ltd. would like to present our proposal for the Vina International Airport. We hope that you will enjoy the presentation.

Ladies and Gentlemen, just imagine as you explore these possibilities, imagine what it will do for the nation of Fattyboland.

The most important item, you must agree; has to be the runway, or in the case of our proposal runways. We are proposing that two parallel runways of five kilometres length and 250 metres width be constructed. This we believe should be enough to cover aircraft being designed in the present and well into the future. There will also be a perpendicular runway of three kilometres length and 150 metres width - this would be designed for smaller aircraft to land upon and prevent the congestion issues that plague most major airports today.

Paralleling each of these runways would be large taxiways. Each taxiway would be the same size as the runway that it parallels; and, in cases of emergency, would be able to act as runways themselves.

Now from the runway to the gate. Our proposal would involve the construction of six major terminals. Three terminals would be to the northern part of the airport, while the other three terminals would be to the southern part of the airport. We invisige that four of these terminals would be used for domestic/regional flights and the remaining two for international flights. We have, therefore, designed the gates in such an appropriate fashion. Each terminal will have thirty gates extending out along a pier - no passenger would be required to walk outside whether they are flying in a Britten-Norman Islander or an Airbus A380.

The domestic/regional terminals are expected to cover a floor area of 100,000 square metres and be two stories in height. Shops that would be expected to be found in domestic gates would include cafes and small retailers. Due to the lower levels of security required for domestic/regional flights, we would expect that roughly 10% of the space would be needed for security provisions, with 25% of the space within a secure zone.

The international terminals would, on the other hand, be expected to cover a floor area of 200,000 square metres and be four stories in height. The wider range of shops and higher level of space required for security make this necessary. We expect that 10% of the space will be needed for security provisions, and 50% of the space within a secure zone. Also, the international terminals would be divided into arrivals and departures.

In between the groups of three terminals would be most of the transportation arrangements. We are proposing that a six platform railway station be constructed, and that a high speed rail line be built between the airport and the centre of Vina. We expect that this rail line will enable passengers to be in the heart of Vina within 15 minutes of their service arriving. The line would be built to the prevailing gauge within Fattyboland. A 20,000 space underground parking lot will also be constructed within this area; it is likely that parking fees will provide a significant share of the funding for this airport.

Further along the rail-line and the eight lane expressway we are proposing, would be a light industrial area for air-freight firms. This would probably involve five million square metres of floor space.

Finally, the asthetics. We plan to design this airport in a Neo-Gothic style, evoking the glories of the past. We also plan to have a green area around the airport - the green area would be 500 metres all around and would enable for future expansion, as well as for safety. We also plan to use all forms of technology presently available to make the airport as efficient as possible; we will aim to make this facility as carbon neutral as possible.

In short

- Vina International Airport would have some 2.5 million square metres of terminal space. We expect that 1.5 to 2 million of those square metres will be used for retail purposes

- The gates would enable two hours worth of flights to be held on the ground while passengers board. Essentially, we plan that at peak times, up to fifty thousand passengers can board per hour. We also plan that during peak times, up to sixty aircraft will be able to enter the skies, depending upon the type

- The airport will be constructed in five stages.

Stage one would involve the construction of the railway line, carpark, the northern runway and the international terminals

Stage two would involve the construction of the light industrial area

Stage three would involve the construction of the southern runway, as well as two of the four domestic/regional terminals

Stage four would involve the construction of the final two domestic/regional terminals

Stage five would involve the construction of the cross-runway

- We estimate that this project will cost 250 million Gold Denarii (US$4.2 billion). We estimate that the economic benefits will number in the billions of Gold Denarii.

We hope that you consider our proposal very throughly and if you have any questions, please ask.
