World Cup of Hockey I sign-up thread

(Yes, I know Cherry Cup existed, but it's long-forgotten now, so why not start over? It's not like Aglukark has any influence now :p )

It's now time for a new hockey tournament. I'll keep this simple: leave a word here if you want to sign-up. About sign-ups, you are allowed to 2 nations (a master and a puppet nation), but in order to have the right to enter one, the World Cup rule will apply: you need to have entered a Cherry Cup before to be able to enter one.

Hosts are also needed. For yout information, a host is the guy that will sim the games with a scorinator (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Scorinate) (Also see the how are scores generated (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup_FAQs#How_Are_Scores_Generated.3F) part of the World Cup thread.) If you really need one, I'm currently working on one using Visual Basic, though no progress have been done in months due to high school overwork. Should have more time to work on it after March Break.

In case you got concerns, this new cup will be similar to the Cherry Cup. But it will still have differences, such as an unified rankings system, instead of one used at the discretion of the host. These rankings will make cups more even from one to another and will also eliminate any try from hosts to hi-jack the competition in their favour when they are ranked low. Nothing is defined yet about them, so don't ask about a formula yet.

That's about it. Welcome to the World cup of hockey :)

Why are we abandoning the cherry cup? The lack of seriousness was the best part of it, no real complaining or bitching. (outside of you and Star, ironically enough complaining about you, saying the host cheated)

Anyway, as I said, RPly, I hope people won't be taking this as seriously as they would take it in the World Cup. But we don't want cups to be hijacked by their hosts (I have been guilty of this in CC9, but this is something in the past) because they use rankings we don't know about. So there will be some set rules about the cup, but they won't be too restricting and will surely permit everyone to play enough games to not be discouraged from playing in next cups. All of this to permit ice hockey to take back the "2nd most important sport in NS" award

Nah.. The TOUR de QAZOX is. It's up to its 3d edition, and each time I've had more sginups (13 to 14 to 17)... unless you count the Women's world Cup. (sry.. didn't mean to plug) Although Hockey is probably a bit easier to scorinate than a Cycling race any day, and a bit easier to RP.

Hold on a moment, I thought this was the World Cup of Hockey... where did the ice come from? Well if you're going to play a traditional field sport on ice then I definatly won't be RP'ing seriously, anyone know the rules for this Hockey on Ice?
Oliverry

World Cup of Hockey is a reference to the RL WCoH, that happened in 1996 and 2004 (link to a description of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Cup_of_Hockey ). A link to the rules of Ice Hockey can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Hockey ). For an example of a hockey game (highlights only, sadly, but you're surely get the point, and it's even a footage from the 2004 World Cup of Hockey), this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EklMZOLk7fs) will help you understand more what the game is about.

As well, if you are interested in hosting the cup, please emerge and propose yourself as the host

Dude Ice Hockey is like 10 billion times better than field hockey, yo.

I've looked up this Ice Hockey stuff... it seems we do have a league in the UK, though it isn't very well advertised and is limited to a few public ice rinks around the country. I don't see it ever catch on, but I'm sure I can find a frozen lake or something in my nation's mountain region to make a pitch on for this tournament.

"Field" Hockey as you call it however is the fifth national sport here, after football, cricket, rugby and boxing, it's played in all schools at some level up and down the country and an exciting sport to play. I myself played for a while in the national military league (East Midlands division).

Well, there's the positions, for one thing. Midfielders are nonexistent in hockey.
There's also the "layers of warm thermal clothing"... Even tropical weather players would end up bathing in their own sweat. Hell, Russian players end up bathed in their own sweat when playing with modern, breathable uniforms.
Then there's the lack of line-changes... which means players will be beyond exhausted after a few minutes. In football, players tend to spend most of their time jogging around at medium pace, then putting forth tremendous spurts of energy, but hockey players have to go for the fences for their entire time on the ice.
And footballers and field hockey players on skates for the first time, trying to play hockey, would be an amusing sight to see.
oh, and is this going to be the OOC thread?

I assume so. *shrug* Why make a new thread for it when we already have one?

Hockey Kelssek withdraws from World Cup

The club vs. country tug-of-war has come to another head as Hockey Kelssek officially withdrew from the first World Cup of Hockey after KHL teams refused to release Kelssek's internationals for the competition with the regular season coming to a close and the Desjardins Cup playoffs looming.

The acrimonious battle is the second act of another recent battle before the Winter Olympics in Keto last November which saw Hockey Kelssek sending the national under-21 team instead. But Hockey Kelssek says if they can't send the best team to the World Cup, Kelssek won't be going at all.

"First and foremost, it's a matter of giving the competition the respect it deserves. We wouldn't be doing that if we didn't send our best team. As it stands we will not take part in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey." said Hockey Kelssek communications representative Dennis Myer.

The public backlash against the KHL for refusing to push back the playoffs, and to a lesser extent, team managers for refusing to release players, has been growing and hit a new level of intensity with the news. But with the hostility between the association and the clubs who believe that Hockey Kelssek is too demanding of their star internationals, a solution is extremely unlikely at this point.

OOC: Yes, I'm withdrawing. I'll be away so no point in taking part.

For future reference, scorination will generally be done relatively late in the evening, North America Eastern time. In fact, here's what I'm planning for scorination tonight:

North America (east coast): 11:20pm (hopefully Jolt will be back by then...)
North America (west coast): 8:20pm
UK: 4:20am (sorry, guys)
Central Europe: 5:20am
The merry ol' land of Oz (east coast): 2:20pm

Most nights, scorination will occur sometime between 7pm and midnight North America Eastern. Scores for Group G will hopefully be relatively close to the rest, though that depends on the immediate availability of the third-party scorer.
