[OOC: To be honest this does sound interesting...and I've been trying lately to get involved in RP's that aren't only ones I create. Could you tell me more about the background and purpose of this academy? Maybe a link to the first-year RP?]
Draconis Nightcrawlis

Link to the first RP. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=411330)

Well the purpose of the academy is to teach certain skills, mainly the dark arts such as necromancy, to young students.

The background of the academy is it is based in a large mansion hidden deep in a county of Draconis Nightcrawlis called Dark Valley.

Most of the students from DN are either vampires or they come from families already involved in the dark arts, again mostly necromancy.

[OOC: Students at Hogwarts are wizards. Students at Balamb Garden are SeeD's. Students at the Nocturne Academy are...?]

EDIT: I apparently missed one of your posts. You already answered this. :p

Well students really, only in their last three years at the academy do they start specialising in a specific area. Necromancy, alchemy etc.

Unlike the wizards in Harry Potter, magical ability isn't something they're born with it's learnt.

Well here goes nothing:

http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p699166.png
Name: Kaden Ramses
Race: Arkan Mystic
Age: 17
Height: 6’0”
Hair color: Blonde
Eye color: Blue
Background:
Arrogant, cocky, and full of ambition, Kaden is driven and a natural leader. However, his lack of authority and incredibly high ego feed his irresponsibility, oftentimes getting him in trouble. An exceptional student, it is unfortunately the ease of the material which leads to his boredom, which, in turn, leads to his trouble-making. Arkan royalty on top of all that, Kaden occasionally looks down on Alex because his family works for a living.

http://209.85.48.8/237/117/upload/p699168.png
Name: Alexavier “Alex” Venedict
Race: Arkan Mystic
Age: 17
Height: 5’10”
Hair color: Grey/Silver
Eye color: Grey/Silver
Background:
Gentle and calm, Alexavier, or Alex as he is often referred to, is willing to observe from the sidelines rather than get involved in conflicts or other public matters. Alex is cheerful, polite, and humble, a stark contrast to Kaden. Alex is also quite wealthy, thanks to hard working and self made parents, and while this places him above most Arkans in the social sphere, he is sometimes reminded by Kaden that he is still of less status than those of privilege.

The Arkan Race OOC Guide:
The Arkan race hails from (surprise!) the Arkan Star System, with its main planet being Arka prime. Within the Arkan race there is the rare occurrence of “Mystics,” who have innate telekinetic and conjuring abilities that they control using their hands as an extention of their minds. (ex: while thinking of crushing an egg, they make a fist with their hands.) Mystics, out of jealousy, are typically outcasts of Arkan society, however, the rich (Alex) and the powerful (Kaden) are often sent elsewhere to develop their abilities and live in accepting environments. In the case of the Nocturne Academy, both the boys and their families are interested in learning this form of "magic," believing that with their innate abilities they should be able to learn them.

Good? Bad? Needs changes? Up to you, of course.

I am interested.

Name: Adrian Landros
Age: 17
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 187lbs
Hair: Dark
Eyes: Blueish Gray
History: Throughout his young life, Adrian was taunted and tourmented by other children for his differences. Many didn't understand his abilities and the fangs in his mouth. So, he remained a loner for the most part with few friends. His parents were suffocating in their desire for him to master the dark arts. They sought to remove him from this hostile enviroment and placed him in the Nocturne Academy of Dark Arts in hopes that in such an enviroment he will cultivate his abilities and improve them. Adrian is a tall lean young man. He rarely smiles and is quiet for the most part.

Haha...just wondering...what you would you say my "comfort zone" is?Not stalking, just aware of you in the headlines from time to time -- though not in the same way I'm aware of, say, Paris Hilton.

I'd say your comfort zone is RPing about things you understand with equally intelligent people you don't have to explain things to (which I suppose is everybody's, really).

In very, very general terms, you seem to like having your characters in a hierarchy or deliberately limited environment (eg, military, spaceship) which they then exploit.

In equally general terms, I'm easiest with characters who muddle along and worry a lot.

I suspect the official Draconis Nightcrawlis comfort zone is one involving throwing spanners into works ...:D

Name: Mercedes
Titular Name: Mercedes L'Ajis*
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian, ethnic romanji
Nation of Origin: Kesshite
Physical Characteristics: Dark hair and eyes, pale skin with strong olive undertones, stands a little under five eight.
History: Born in the southern Imamah** of Navarre, Mercedes is her mother's eighth child and the second to receive the L'Ajis title. Her previous studies have centered around the native, nature based droma magic of Kesshite. Her family pressured her into attending a foreign academy as doing so confers prestige among the peers of the realm; Mercedes own interests led her to pick the Nocturne Academy.
Personality: Moody and pragmatic, Mercedes has an altogether unromantic view of magic and those who wield it. She spent the majority of her young adulthood among the arcane nobility of Kesshite, and finds little of worth in their self-importance and narrow outlook. She's fond of gardening and knitting, but unusually passionate about the study of magic.

Name: Bella of The House of Finarfin
Race: Noldor Elf
Age: 17
Height: 5’5”
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Grey
Background: Bella is the only daughter of the current King to The House of Finarfin, the Noldor Elves. Bella is a precocious girl, variety of talents she has revealed to her family and yet others she has hidden within. Although her features are striking she is, however, not aware. She is introverted and rather spend her time buried in school than socializing with others. Her father sent her to the school to widen her horizon and just another ability for her to improve on from those who are wiser than her.

I think everyone's vampires work in the way they want them to. Mine give birth, but female vampires will only ever have vampire children.

As for the ones the others play, I can't say.

Here's Alice again:

Name: Alice Darkmoor
Species: Human (Vampiric)
Age: 19
Height/Weight: 175cm/45kg
Hair/Eyes: Black/Grey

Bio: Alice has lived a short and disturbing life. She never knew her mother and was raised by her unattentive, sinister necromancer of a father. He never bothered to instruct his daughter, despite her apparent skills. Alice did manage to pick up a few things from her father but never gained a refined edge to her talent. Magic runs through her veins and there is no denying the power behind her, yet her methods have always been crude.

At the age of 17 she left home in the hope of finding other practitioners of the dark arts and learning from them. Unforutunately they were far and few between and so Alice learned little. She is a very independent girl with a strong will and a lack of social skills. She doesn't really like people and on occassion would prefer the undead spirits she can hear.

Not long after her 18th birthday, Alice decided that if she was going to learn anything, she would need more time. And so she convinced a young vampire to give her the kiss of death, or eternal life, depending on which way you look at it. Aware of the weaknesses of vampires, Alice managed to forge a gem of dark energies that shields her from the sun's rays. She wears the purple gem upon a necklace, never removing it.

Before Alice came to the Academy she could be described as volatile at best when it came to using her powers. After her first year it is worthy to note she has established a much better level of control over her abilities. Of course things can still get out of hand as there is always much more to learn.

Generally suspicious of most people, the closest thing Alice has to a friend is Mierin, another vampire she met in her first year. Whilst a somewhat cold character, she is starting to warm to others as the academy is an environment where she isn't persecuted.

Callisdrunian moroii are not as vulnerable to sunlight as other breeds. They get badly burnt by high amounts of ultra violet light (you will not see them vacationing in the tropics) but do not instantly die. While they find bright sunlight coming through windows annoying because their eyes are highly sensitive to light, they are not harmed by light through windows physically. Also, some classes are held underground, or at least were in the last thread.

Thanks. The Kesshite are rather anti-vampire. One of the reasons Mercedes is studying 'the dark arts' is to use them against the various things that go bump in the night. I assumed the vampires assembled would be different from normal as I don't see moldering corpses that burst into flame in the sun's rays as making good students.

alright, quick question before i put up a character. can vampires give birth in this world? and if so, are the children vampiric or are they born human?

A male vampire can only impregnate a non-vampire woman. Female vampires cannot get pregnant due to the amount of blood needed.

A child who's father was a vampire is known as a Dhampir.

But that only goes for Draconian vampires. Vampires from elsewhere are probably different.

There are no windows?

I'm trying to find out how they're different from the norm. Being active during the day would qualify.

There are windows, the dungeon classrooms have very small windows so it's easy for vampires to avoid direct sunlight. Other windows are either blocked by curtains or the vampires have to move around to avoid direct sunlight. However sunlight doesn't destroy a vampire right away, it burns them letting off smoke, only prolonged exposure will eventually kill them.

Oh and Draconian vampires are generally nocturnal, they just don't instantly go to sleep when the sun rises.

Wandering Vagabonds
11-02-2007, 02:45
Name: Dimitri Vauhn

Race: Dhampir

Age: 16

Apperance: Stands 5'10 with dark brown, almost black hair That hangs just below eye level when loose, but is most of the time pulled back in a pony tail. He weighs just north of 160 lbs and has a fairly athletic build, and is pale when compared to most humans. His eye are dark violet, but they appear to glow lavender in the dark.

Background: Dimitri's mother was a human woman; a "working girl" in a brothel in the land of Wandering Vagabonds. She left him on the doorsteps of a kindly old couple in the city. They took him in, but he was always sickly as a child. He was only ever truely healthy in the hospitol when he was getting blood transfusion. One day when he was 3, his would-be mother was tending to him in bed when he attacked her, bit her, and drank her blood. His' 'father' came in, saw what he was doing and took him tossed the boy out of the house. He somehow or another found his way to an orphanage. There he was taken in and was able to survive on the raw meat that the orphanage gave. When he reach the age of 14, he was too old for the orphanage, so he was again out on the street. He was forced to turn to a life of petty crime in order to survive. He stole money from those who looked like they could spare it. Most of the time he broke into butchers shops to get the blood he needed, but occationally he killed someone for it. Earlier this year he was picked up by the police, who then turned him over to the Feds. They told him what he was and why he craved the blood. Then they sent him to this school, if only to get him out of the governments hair.

Special skills: While he isn't a vampire, he does have some traits in common, due to his father being one. He is faster than a normal human, and stronger. While he doesn't have fangs outright, his canines are slightly longer than a normal human's, and he has very good vision in the dark. Being part human he can walk around in sunlight, but he is not able to tan.

It didn't go that way in the first RP. If anything, Ann Rice has more to answer for here than Rowling has, with a dash of good old black-and-white horror movies thrown in. And, thankfully, the students don't seem to be Team Players at all, at all.

Also theres not really a courtyard, more of a gravel driveway/large grass area. Theres no arch and the academy isn't in a valley, it's just a little hilly and the forest surrounds the academy.

Details, details.

My country doesn't have spaceships or cars. In order to travel different places, we use spirit paths. That means we walk or ride as normal, and end up where we need to be. From Mercedes' perspective, she started out from her home about a week ago in a carriage.

As we don't have cars, we don't have driveways, so when Mercedes sees a large one, she thinks 'courtyard'.

You didn't specify the topography or the look of the Academy; I had to improvise.

Sorry about that, mind you 'Dark Valley' is rather misleading isn't it :D

An interesting way of travel. I just wanted to make sure about that, in the past some people have assumed I'm on that huge NS earth. DN is in fact a whole planet.

Any questions just ask :)

Is there any set room arrangement or do I just have Arpad (who will likely be rooming with Zero again) and Mierin room with whoever?
Draconis Nightcrawlis

Well if they do chose to be in a shared room again they'll be paired with Zero and Raven again. They can chose single rooms this year if they wish.

Popping in as this actually does seem rather interesting.

Name: Sivv'Raxis

Race: Godulan Avatar

Age: 16/16/17/15/18

Height: 5 feet, 8 inches

Hair color: Black

Eye color: Brilliant Green

Background: 'Student' arranged and sent by the Anarchist Union to learn the ways of Black Magic in accordance with their wishes to learn about anything and everything. In keeping with the requirements of the school, the Godulans have conducted something of a national precedent in crafting an Avatar consisting wholly of Godulans born within the Kython Overlink. Each of the five minds within the Avatar have their youthful quirks, but the most obvious consideration is that the concept of being within a corporeal body is still somewhat new to them. Expect a level of clumsiness, which in addition to their general enthusiasm might lead to some interesting situations.

I hate to do this. Although, I think it to be a must. I need to back out of this thread. Through the small hiatus I have become lost in the past of the story. Maybe I could come back to the next year. Maybe my character got called back to her nation because her father grew ill and the elders asked for her to be there at his deathbed.

I would love to do another story of this. I will certainly wait if I am allowed to come back and join.

Thank you for my small history to be added to this story.

I'm still here ... I think. I had the flu, then one of my puppet nations suddenly took off, then my main nation plunged itself into a political crisis, then I started a forum and had to learn Invisionfree tech stuff very fast ... oh, yeah, and of course there was real life. Forgot about that.;)

So, a query: if the headmaster can read minds, there must be some limitation on it, or nobody'd be able to get up to anything interesting. Is it distance? Or whether he's paying attention? Or the strength of the emotional output of the mind being read? Does he read only surface thoughts, or deep down?

I don't want to pin you down so much that you can't pull any sort of swiftie you need to, DN, but we need some sort of limits to give us a bit of narrative tension. The students could slowly work it out, if you give them clues, or the older students could know all about it and pass it on to the younger ones. Just give us a push in the right direction.
Draconis Nightcrawlis
08-05-2007, 14:36
Well yeah he does have a limitation. He can read only one mind at a time and generally has to be focusing on that student. Otherwise picking up on a strong emotion from a student will invariably catch his attention. Deep down thoughts require more work but he can do it if he tries hard enough, surface thoughts on the other hand he can easily pick up.

Well if they're lucky they'll pick up on it, or if they're even luckier an older student will tell them.

[NS::]Atlantis Arisen
16-06-2007, 05:14
Hello! I hope it is not too late to join your thread. Since I've yet to RP at all with this nation, you may want some links - my main nation is y Arkhet-Eridhinra Tsarineko (http://www.nationstates.net/tsaraine), but since the social indoctrination makes them all Lawful Good and not that interesting in terms of character RP, you can look here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12697016&postcount=13) (unfortunately the original poster disappeared after I posted so the thread died, but it's an example) and here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8239941&postcount=1) (where I wrote myself into a hole, but it's another example).

If it's OK for me to join, the following will be my character;

Name: Pharinae Aoirghan ela Iáruighin
Race: Atlantean (of the Blood Imperial)
Age: 13
Height: 5'
Hair color: white
Eye color: blue
Background: Pharinae may be of the Blood Imperial, and thus a member of the Imperial Court, but in her case the link to the Undying Emperor is distant and confers no particular privileges; since the Emperor is immortal there's no such thing as a line of succession. In fact the genealogical link is weak enough that she's only just this side of the Harem walls, among the decadent and jaded nobility of the Court.

Despite this lack of rank, however, she is very strong in what is called the Imperial Will - a collection of supernatural powers which range from an "air of command" to psychic domination and mind control (fortunately those aspects have yet to manifest strongly or at all in Pharinae's case, and can be seen sort of as a somewhat higher Charisma stat) but mainly focus on the ability to rip bleeding holes in Space and Time and command whatever tentacled abomination should wriggle through (fortunately this has yet to manifest strongly either). As such, she has to be trained - but no respectable School of Atlantis would teach a woman, even one of the Imperial Court, and so Pharinae was shipped off to a foreign school.

(Since this is obviously a very potent and dangerous power, I will naturally place it's use in your hands, and run any such manifestations by you first - it's your thread, after all.)

This is Pharinae's first venture outside the rarified air of the Imperial Court, never mind Atlantis, so she's suffering rather extreme culture shock. By nature she's courteous (one could say "mannered") and shy, although she's also narcissistic and somewhat arrogant towards her inferiors, as befits her station and her race.

A note on Atlantis: The Atlanteans have raised torture to an artform, cruelty to a philosophy, and narcissism to a way of life. Their economy was built on slavery, necromancy, and the Infernal Combustion Engine, which runs on human souls, (as opposed to the factory method of production, the steam engine, and the internal combustion engine), and has existed unchanged for over twenty thousand years, ruled by an immortal demigod. They are thoroughly evil ... but still, underneath it all, human.

(Edit: Is it OK to bring servants?)
Draconis Nightcrawlis
16-06-2007, 15:23
Sure join up, just make it as though your character was there from the start rather then being late turning up.

Oh no servants by the way, the seemingly hidden academy servants do all the stuff around the mansion.
[NS::]Atlantis Arisen
17-06-2007, 12:23
Huzzah! The reason I asked about the servants is because, well, the Imperial Court are the most decadent, spoilt, and lazy aristocrats in the history of aristocracy. I was doubtful about Pharinae's ability to dress herself! I guess she's getting a crash course in such things, poor girl.

Anyone is welcome to be Pharinae's roommate. I think she's going to be fun to write, hee hee hee.
Draconis Nightcrawlis
17-06-2007, 19:45
Heh, she's in for a shock then :D
