New Mythology/Fantasy RP OOC

Well, I've been hoping for a good mythology RP to come around for awhile. And while there are plenty of fantasy RP's, there is a lack of RP's that get the mythological thing down. So I will take things into my own hands.

The Story....

In the ancent world, there are several civilizations. They all have their gods and devils, but only a few poeple know that all of these gods exist in their own respective heavens. However, there is only one hell, known by many names. And in hell are banished evils. But the most powerful evil of all time does not live in hell. It is a god far older than any other, worshiped by a civilization long destoryed. The evil god, who's name is now forgotten, was also destroyed. However, being immortal, the god only lost his form and power. Now his will has managed to contact three banished beings in hell. They are Kronus, the leader of the Titans who battled the Greek Gods, Set, the animal headed murder of Osiris, and Loki, the evil trickster destined to cause Ragnarok. These gods now use their loyal followers in an attempt to free themselves, and to alsobring the ancient evil back into physical existence in order to get the rewards promised to them...

The gods of the civilizations, despite their omniptence, are blinded by the ancient one's will. The only one who realizes this threat is a former Greek god who was made mortal as punishment for a terrible crime. He know tries to rally warriors from all walks of life to stop the followers of the evil gods from succeding.

As you can see, this RP will feature both a mix of a mythology I created, as well as real ones. And what are the races that are available? Pretty much any you can think of in Ancient Europe/Asia/Northern Africa/Middle East. Some of the major ones are as follows.

Greek
Roman
Any type of Barbarian (Celtic, Germanic)
Norse
Egyptian
Persian
Babylonian
Chinese
Japanese

If you think of any more let me know and I'll see if it works. Now all of these races may not have existed in the same time, but hey, it's mythology.

Any objection to 'real' mythos/legendary characters?
Also, human only?
Breitenburg
27-01-2007, 06:18
Name: Erik Gunnaluog
Race: Norse
Physical Description/Appeance: What a person thinks a norseman looks like. Long Blonde hair, wears black armor and has an eye patch over his left eye. He is 6'3 and weighs 218lbs.
Powers/Speciality: No magic, he relys soely on his skills as a warrior. His years of experienceand combat with all sorts of beings, including some minor gods, as hardened his skills.
Weapons: Several, though he primmarily uses a spear, a battleaxe, or dual longswords, depending on how he is felling.
Occupation: Monster Hunter, Raider.
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Where From: Doesn't Tell
Alignment: Technically Good, but does what many would think barbaric
Weakness: No magic or ranged skill, little defense against magic.
Bio: Erik grew up living the hard life of a norseman. He has made murder a way of life. After fighting in several battles, Erik began to seek out warriors or beasts to satisfy his love of battle. His reputation spread acrossed the Norselands, and soon he was battling minor gods and winning. He now travels all over the world. Although not exactly a mercenary, he can be persuaded to do things for a price.

Name: Kastrostos
Race: None
Physical Description/Appeance: Always wears a cloak and keeps his face somewhat hidden. His facial features can somewhat be seen, and they are brown eyes and brown hair. He is 5'11 and his weight is unknown.
Powers/Speciality: He is a fallen Greek God of magic, and as such has a multitude of powers left over from when he was a god.
Weapons: None
Occupation: None
Age: Ageless
Gender: Male
Where From: Olympus
Alignment: Good
Weakness: Not Known
Bio: Kastrostos is known to wander lands almost aimlessly. What he is doing, no one knows, but he will soon be vital in saving the Earth.

Kastrostos is a story based char, and so he wil be god mod and not used as a char, he will only advance the story. There will be other chars like this in the RP.

I'd prefer human only, or some sort of fallen god made mortal, but I don't want I alot if those. Depends on what mythos char, as some will appear as NPC's in the RP.

LoL I kid, I haven't a clue who it is

Anyways, I shall make a char tomorrow. Busy at the moment

I would also like to take part in this. Since Theao mentioned playing as Musashi, I would play a Kengō as opposed to a Kensei. I'll have a character profile up soon, assuming they're aren't any objections.

So a 'Great Sword' rather than a 'Sword Saint'?

I'm not sure if I want to take Musashi specifically(if permitted), or just a Kensei in general thought.

Exactly. Supposedly there is never more than one Kensei alive at the same time, so I decided to drop down a rank.

I don't think that 'restriction' would come into effect when we consider that a god is drawing heros from different time periods. It would really only cause problems if both characters were from the same generational period.

It appears that Kastrostos(bio on post #4) is the god.

It didn't say from different time periods, just different walks of life and I'd just avoid potential complications/time paradoxes. As an aside, if you get permission to run with Musashi, what are you wielding? Didn't he dual-wield swords?

To me, when you're mixing Greek, Norse and Japanese, you're mixing time.

Afterall, the 'Era of Heros' for those civs are quite different.

Also not sure if going with Musashi or a 'generic' Kensei.

Theao and Templa, you chars can be what you want. Junii, the heroes will all be in this one starting city (not determined yet), and something will ahppen to draw them together. Imitora, my AIM is down, but you can TG me the idea and I'll check it out. And the RP has several civs all together in one time, even if they never existed at the same time.

well, the reason why I'm asking is that I want to make sure that I don't bring in a character that would not normally follow that type of God.

say a Battlemaster type character and you have someone like Aphroditie doing the calling.

Name:Lancelot Du Lake
Race: Human
Physical Description/Appeance:
Powers/Speciality: Blessed by the Lady of the Lake to always be victorious in battle.
Weapons: Long sword, sheild, Mace and Lance
Occupation:First Knight in Camelot
Age: 26
Gender: male
Where From: (Could be city or region, not mandotory though) England
Alignment: Lawful Good
Weakness: a wound that won't heal.
Bio: due to his failings and thus, tryst with Gwenevire, Lancelot left Camelot to regain his Knightly calling. he sees himself now flawed and unworthy to call Aurthur his Leige. He is on a personal quest to restore his virtues and regain his place (in his mind) at Camelot. (this Lancelot is baised more from the Excaliber movie than mythos.)

WHAT! Why? I would think that medieval characters would fit. you got Robin Hood, the musketeers, (which can be considered medieval.) Merlyn, Rob Roy, St Patrick,... oh well... *shrugs*

oh and if you think that it's because of Christianity... most of Aurthur's knights were supposidly Pagans. ;)

So would there be a problem with 15-17th century characters, as its well past the medieval ages(by western standards, but still part of the Sengoku period of Japanese history, otherwise known as the Warring States Period)?

Name: Kitano Ichi(Japanese naming order)
Race: Japanese
Physical Description/Appeance: Long, straight black hair(mid-back), 5'1", lgiht brown eyes, typically black kimono with a red obi, geta footware

Resurfacing two years later, at the scene of a vicious battle that was the result of an ages old feud. Throught both blade and wisdom he managed to settle the feud. Over the next few years, his actions and code caused many to think of him as an 'ideal' samurai.

One day while meditating by the bank of waterfall Ichi received a vision of the location of two blades, one forged by Senzo Muramasa, the other Masamune Okazaki. Following the vision he found the two katana hidden away. Sitting before them, he began meditating for three days and nights before rising. Taking the two, he managed to remain in control of himself, resisting the bloodlust of the Muramasa and the method of self-defence by the Masamune. He then felt a call and set out to follow it to a strange city.

I'll have chars posted tomorrow, just let me work up the bios.

One will be a Caledonian or Cyrmian (Celt) and the other will be a Suveii or Lombard (Norseman). Either way, expect two heavy drinkers, though what each will be has yet to be determined.

Or Breit, if you care, I'll just go with one, though it will make for a loss of some interesting dialogue.

King Arthur the Great
01-02-2007, 04:34
Okay, here are my chars:

The Dane (Norse Viking)
Name: Olaf Oscarsson, Olaf the Blood Thirsty.
Description: six foot eight, broad, barrel chested, a verifiable moving wall of human tissue weighing two hundred sixty pounds.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond
Abilities and Skills: Olaf is a master warrior, equally suited to the use of blade or fists. He can wield two blades with relative ease for extended periods of time. He has increased speed and reflexes, despite his immense size and somewhat heavier armor. He has a particular resilience to extreme temperatures. His beserker's rage diminishes his reasoning at half the normal rate, and while beserk he gains unnatural strength and fortitude, though it must be built up somewhat to activate a healing agent.
Weapons: Glam, the sword of Siegried the Dragon Slayer; a claymore, a gift from Findlaech; his father's longsword.
Weaknesses: Neither a genius nor an oaf, he has a tendency to settle disputes with a single cross to the face. As his beserkerang becomes more intense, he becomes less able to reason, and less likely to distinguish a frend from a foe. He is also governed by the honor and code of Norse Law, which he follows vehemently.
Bio: He grew up with his father, a smith and seasonal fighter, and learned well the use of the sword and the fist. When he turned sixteen, he left home to go a-Viking, and while journeying through Sweden, he found the blue sword Glam, used by the legendary Siegfried to slay the dragon Fafnir. He took it, and on his return, he decided to go raiding south, where he met a young wizard named Findlaech.

The Caledonian (Celt, Scottish/Welsh ancestor).
Name: Findlaech MacGryffean
Description: Five foot ten, about one hundred seventy pounds.
Hair: Dark Copper, short
Eyes: Green
Abilities and Skills: Wizardry, particularly elemantal control, mental domination, and shape shifting. Highly skilled with a staff, though by no means the warrior that Olaf is.
Equipment: One oaken staff, and a hidden dagger.
Weaknesses: Possesses average physical abilities, unable to manage anything more than novice spells if gagged in some way.
Bio: As a young boy, he made the pilgrimage to the abode of the Druid Merlywn to learn the arts of magic. When Merlywn sent him off, he journeyed from the south of his island to the vast lands across the narrow sea, where he traveled as a bard for some time. Just after his twentieth winter, he was helping a band of warriors raid some southern villages when he fell in with another young man of similar age named Olaf.

Joint Bio:
Olaf and Findlaech met while rainding a small group of vagabonds, criminals, and sheepherders that made their village on some hills on the Tiber River (the early Romans). They stayed together after that, traversing the continent for two cycles of the seasons before Findlaech was sent a dream of portent and prophecy that bid them to travel to a foreign city. Not one to distrust the gods, Olaf made his ablutions to Wotan (Odin) and Thor before he and Findlaech set off to find this city.

Notes:
Olaf and Findlaech are almost brothers, and with it comes some measure of brotherly love. Namely they will constantly take opposing sides when it comes to arguments about drinks or tavern quarrels, and they have derogatory names for each other native to their own tongues. Findlaech and Olaf will call each other "Piss Hair" and "Mud Head," respectively, whenever their tempers boil.

Name: Marcus Sculla
Race: Roman
Physical Description/Appearance: 5’7” (tall for a roman) thin framed but muscular.
Powers/Specialty: highly charismatic leader, master horseman, master of the gladius (short sword) and shield fighting.
Weapons: Gladius (short sword) large shield. Roman heavy armor
Occupation: Commander of the Felix Legion
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Where From: Rome
Alignment: Lawful Evil (He follows the laws of his society but his actions are for the betterment of himself and his people. (Romans)
Weakness: highly arrogant, (sees non Romans as barbarians.) extremely greedy.

Bio: Marcus Sculla was born into an elite patrician family known as the Sculla. The Sculla family had a long history of producing fine warriors and elite commanders on the field of battle. Marcus would listen to the stories of his ancestors and how they fought for the glory of Rome and how they had served the Republic and the Empire for many years. This inspired young Marcus to become a great leader of men and a mighty warrior for his people.

Marcus quickly made a rapid rise through the ranks of the Legions by gaining a reputation for being able to command his men effectively and gaining their respect.

Marcus only saw one major campaign during his time in the Legions. He was given command of an Imperial cohort and ordered to disperse several barbarian tribes to the north. Marcus managed to trick the barbarian warriors into chasing his main force of Heavy Infantry Legionaries away from their lands while having his Light Calvary launch a large sweeping raid on their unprotected villages in a massive flanking formation.

The barbarians went to save their families from the roman onslaught only to be trapped by the now advancing Roman legionaries. It was a brutal massacre that earned Marcus his bloody reputation as a dangerous enemy.

Marcus in the last hour however showed some restraint and managed to take over one hundred people prisoner and sell them into slavery. This transaction has greatly increased the wealth of Marcus and his famly.

Marcus was quickly promoted to the position of Commander of the Felix legion. This force was ordered to occupy southern Gaul and prepare for a push up north to take the rest of Gaul. Marcus hopes to gain more victory and wealth from this eventually conquest and waits for his Cesar’s orders to advance…

In his years abandoned in the mountains, he was raised by the ancient bear Gerasimos, who lived through the Golden Age of Humanity. It was with this bear that Kratos grew into a hunter and eventually became a warrior, obtaining money to one day buy a home and start his own family.

Kratos now wanders the world obtaining money from different people while at the same time trying to help whoever he thinks needs it.

Hidden Past: Zeus knew that something bad was about to happen in the world of mortals and decided to "interact with his creation" again like he did many times before to give rise to a new hero who would help to defeat this new evil. But he had to make certain that the evil would not suspect Kratos to be his son so that it would not attempt to ensnare him. He did this by giving Kratos a decieving look of a mortal who does not appear to be fit for battle.

It's earth, but all of the ancient groups are together. For instance, Norse and Egyptians never met, but they will here. The geography is the smae as earth.

This force was ordered to occupy southern Gaul and prepare for a push up north to take the rest of Gaul. room for one more?

I'm actually debating weather a second character i have in mind is any good, but i think i can resurrect the original incarnation of one of my mainstay characters for this RP, if you'll take him..

Name: Chargone

Race: unspecified, appearers to tend toward a Germanic/Norse hybrid.

Physical Description/Appearance: above average hight, long dark hair, Grey-green eyes, slightly scrawny looking. typicaly wears a long black coat and a black hat with a brim large enough to cast a face obscureing shadow [and keep the sun off, as an added bonus].

Powers/Specialty: shadow walking, control of minor fire elementals, pure shadow/fire elemental force attacks of great strength when pushed past his 'limit' [more on that in the bio], highly impact resistant.

Weapons: the Black Wind, a staff formed by way of a special technique and blessed by various elemental spirits.

Occupation: wanderer, trickster, a bard of sorts.

Age: 25

Gender: male

Where From: unknown

Alignment: erratic, but never evil.

Weakness: water , excessively bright light and sound, piercing weapons.

Bio: a wanderer of in determinant origin, Chargone gets by by preforming tricks and songs, and composing poetry, as well as being quite the philosopher.

almost drowned as a child, and now has a debilitating fear of water [beyond drinking and bathing in obviously safe places]. water also has the expected effects on his fire abilities.

Chargone's sense of sight and hearing, while not particularly keen, are unusually sensitive to excessive stimuli. his night vision, however, is excellent.

for reasons even he doesn't understand, Chargone has a strong aversion to piercing weapons, or even things that could be used as such, in the hands of others.

normally fairly cowardly by nature, preferring to taunt and confuse his opponent's into submission on those occasions he cannot convince them to seace opposing him, when under enough stress he essentially looses control.

at this point he becomes something of a conduit for raw fire and shadow energy, as well as significantly faster than normal.

end :)

ugh, that's not coming out as clearly as it should.

oh, on the matter of weapons, i saw something mentioned earlier "no halberds, they're too medieval" ... hate to disabuse people of interesting notions, but they were apparently around in china when the romans still ran Europe. so was the crossbow, actually.

i Might be wrong, but i'm reasonably sure i'm not :)

Just in case you allow a new mythology into the fray, and give it a new flavor...

Name: Coszcatl Ocelotl (Jewel of the Jaguar)
Race: Nahualt (Mayan/Aztec)

Physical Description/Appeance: Short, slim and agile figure. Olive complexion with green, gleaming cat-like eyes, and raven black hair. Dressed with just a
jaguar pelt and a cloak. Her neck is adorned with Jaguar's teeth, and displays a lot of ornamental jewelry. A rather colorful guacamaya (parrot) is always on her shoulder when she speaks.

Powers/Speciality: Tracking, hunting, scouting, setting traps and ambushes. A supernatural affinity to nature, animals and the jungle in general. She is very capable at hiding and sneaking.

Weapons: Atlatl (spear with a thrower), Bow and arrows, round wooden shield, Macuahuitl (carefully crafted wooden and stone axe), and a adorned obsidian knife. A trained big jaguar follows her everywhere.

Occupation: Tracker, hunter and explorer. Also a princess of the small clan of Citlalmina.
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Where From: Outskirts of the ancient city of Tenochtitlán

Alignment: Absolutely Neutral, as nature, she's not controlled by human morals.
Weakness: Certain naive attitude regarding deceptions and lies, thus easily decieved and manipulated not comfortable in human company. Also, in combat, poorly armoured and protected, making her a rather soft target in fierce melee. Prone to believe in miracles and watch magic or otherwise supernatural powers in awe and adoration.

Bio:

Coszcatl was born in a jungle village, as the heir of the chief of the clan (Calpulli) of the Citlalmina, dominated by women, and feudatary to the great lords of Tenochtitlán. Trained as a hunter and explorer since birth, she grew as one of the most talented members of her clan, and was reknown for her beauty, so for her people was a shame when the great priests of the city of Tenochtitlán demanded their princess as a sacrifice for the lightning god, Quetzaltcoalt, as part of the tribute of the clan to their lords.

Being 14 years old at the time, she marched to the city alongside other captives, under supervision from the warriors of the Quetzalt clan. After arriving to the mighty city built of stone, her sacrifice was prevented by a huge jaguar that stood in front of the base of the sacrificial pyramid, and killed all warriors that tried to both slay the beast or take Coszcalt to the top where she was supposed to be offered as a sacrifice.

The priests running the ceremony finally stated that the powerful tiger god Omacatl had decided to protect the princess from the jungle clan, as the jaguar god had a great fate planned for her and her people. So, she was pardoned, and given a nobility title as the Mistress of Jaguars.

She returned to her lands, in company of the jaguar that saved her for becoming a sacrifice, that turned to be her most steadfast and loyal servant and companion since that moment. For the people under her command, her abilities to remain unseen and unheard were a supernatural power given by the divine beings, now considered to have been blessed by the gods of the heaven and earth, as was the parrot that helped her to understand any language of men and beasts alike.

She lived on her village for six more years, honing her abilities and becoming a heroine, scouting for the great lords of Tenochtitlán in times of war, who summoned her before marching upon their enemies. Until one day she left her people and never returned, dissappearing in the jungle, on accounts of being claimed by the gods to ascend to the heavens without dying.

In case that one is not available for your plot...here you have a celtic adaptation

Name: Cinnia ap Epona
Race: Celtic

Physical Description/Appeance: Black hair, blue eyes, slim but rather resilent body shape, tall with a fair complexion, usually partially covered in black or green warpaint. Sports just a leather pelt and a wolf skin cloak, alongside a helm with a young elk cornament on top. A golden torc covers her neck to show her status as princess.

Powers/Speciality: Almost supernatural horse riding ability, fierce combatant, outstanding archer and good hunter/scout. Animal affinity.

Weapons: Simple spear, riding bow and arrows, warhorse, tamed wolf and hawk.

Occupation: Celtic warrior woman, ranger.
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Where From: Low Pyrenees, between Hispania and western Gaul

Alignment: Neutral, tending towards chaotic good

Weakness: In combat, poorly armoured and not able to fight effectively on foot or without the help of her animal companions. A dangerous tendency for bold and rather careless acts, and unable to careful thought.

Bio:

Cinnia comes from a long lineage of warrior women, from one of the surviving tribes of the continental celtic people. She is fabled as one of Morrigan's and Epona's favoured, and displays a talking raven as a proof of the protection of her patron goddess, as her non aging features. She has lead her tribe in countless skirmishes against her neighbours, and has lead several wild hunts of Churnhous.

Widely respected as a war leader, she was somehow unable to lead her people in times of peace, turning to the elders of her village in daily matters. She was absent for days, running through the plains at the base of the mountains for weeks.

The myths that cover her deeds say that she has slay several fantastic beasts, as dire boars, wyverns and harpies, and that she has battled the mythical legions from the south helping her western gaul kin.

As a celtic female leader, she is rather used to treat men as inferiors, having chosen several companions alongside the most able warriors of her tribe, to get tired of them after a pair of weeks. She expects her words to be followed, and be treated as a princess, with all the due respect, even as most of the time her orders have no sense at all.

For a long stretch in history, the only ships even capable of making trans-Atlantic crossings were ocean going longships made by viking outlaws and sailed by our boy Eric the Red, and then his son, Lief. However, Chinese junks, or the triremes that the Meditterranean civilizations utilized, could make the trip across the Sea of Japan with relative ease.

It is possible to travel from South America to the Polynesian islands to New Zealand to Australia, then overland and north to south-east Asia and then overland/by boat along the coast.

It would of course take quite a while, but it would've been possible. Afterall, Thor Heyerdahl did it in the Kon-Tiki(thought he made it only as far as the Tuamotu Islands), which was made using only materials found in Peru and using native techniques. Also the Tangaroa expedition did much the same. Or worst comes to worse, the god could 'wave his fingers' and deal with much of the distance.

There are also reports that 2nd century Junks have made it as far west as Syria and Marco Polo made notations of finding ships very similar to the Junk design further west than the Cape of Good Hope.

if i remember rightly, except in storm season, the Pacific is much more forgiving than the Atlantic.

err... the Tasman sea isn't though. getting from NZ to Australia [or vice versa] with anything less than a modern ship is almost guaranteed to fail.

i believe even the modern ones avoid it unless they have to. they tend to go around it to the north.

apparently the winds and seas are just not very forgiving. hehehe.

honestly, so long as they stayed close to the coast, and didn't run out of supplies... you could get to pretty much anywhere from anywhere with ships of this era. i mean, the Maori apparently sailed all over the pacific in Waka, which are basically large canoes that were sometimes rigged with sails, before settling in New Zealand.

though, somewhere along the way it was mentioned that nothing was really able to cross the Atlantic, and that was probably right.

I've been putting this off for a while but I think its time I did this.

Name:Gaius Villius Triarius
Race:Roman
Physical Description/Appeance:Black hair, blue eyes,
Powers/Speciality: strong, understanding of strategy, favored by gods
Weapons:Large 2h. axe, Gladius and Scutum (shield)
Occupation: exGladiator (Now a mercenary)
Age: 25
Gender:Male
Where From: Small farm off Ariminum
Alignment: Good
Weakness: doesn't understand how magic can hurt him,
Bio: Gaius was a farmer miles away from the city of Ariminum, until some rebel slaves came and began to sack his farm. Gaius took out his father's old Gladius and went down to fight them, however, Roman legionaries had already engaged the rebels and mistook him for one. He was captured. He was trained as a Gladiator and fought in many "battles" for the enjoyment of the Roman people. Gaius escaped however when a riot drew out all the guards from the cells, Gaius then hopped a boat to Greece and was hired as an mercanary for a Greek raiding party.

I'll post in the IC thread when I can.

I'm almost certain in the same village that the rest of us are(thanks to a helpful god, who I'd guess is serving as linguist in much the same way my character had a helpful Kami who both got the distance shortened and is making sure he can converse in the needed language).
