President Jennifer Jourgensen sat in her suite all day long, her eyes glued to the DVP screens in the eastern wall watching anxiously as the votes were tallied up... hours had gone by with her sitting there in a near catatonic state watching as the votes trickled in from some states and literally flooded in from others. By the end of the day the results were clear, not only had the Democratic-Socialist Party split — the Democrats had used this opportunity to create an alliance with the newest rising power in Parliament, the Californian Nationalist Party. Cementing their majority in Parliament, the Democratic-Nationalist Union swept into power with their new Majority Leader Senator Catherine Beckinsale calling all of the shots.
Sitting in her suite completely aghast of the situation that had recently unfolded in Parliament, Jennifer understood full well what had just happened, the Democratic-Nationalists had pretty much delivered the coups de grâce to her leadership. Without the support of the Socialists within the former Democratic-Socialist Party, there would be no shelter from any future attacks that would come from her critics both within and outside the Parliament, and without them backing her decisions with the majority representation that they had controlled up until this point it would be hard for her to push let alone budge any initiatives through both houses now that things had ultimately taken a turn for the worst.

Anchorwoman Angela Bartlett sat in her swiveling chair as if she were a mannequin, unflinching, devoid of emotion. After the cameraman signaled that she was on the air she smiled "Good evening, I am Angela Bartlett from SCNN News. It is now nine-o'clock, and our news at this hour is with the Californian Parliament. For more than two-hundred and fifty years the politics of the Californian nation have been governed by the Democratic-Socialist Party, now following today's elections for Parliament this has changed. During the election season prior to today's election results, the Californian Nationalist Party (CNP) — which last year was named "Least Likely" to win a majority in our nation's Parliament has come out the underdog in this year’s election. During this years election a pact was struck between the CNP and the Democrats, which after recently severing its ties with the Socialist Party, effectively dissolving the Democratic-Socialist Party, had joined to create the new Democratic-Nationalist Union controlling a massive seventy-one percent of seats in Parliament. With this new force in Californian politics, things will be looking very difficult for President Jourgensen's re-election odds in the upcoming Presidential Election in 2264. With this, I am Angela Bartlett with SCNN News, Goodnight."

Jennifer, now considering her fate pretty much predetermined by the Democratic-Nationalist Union had sat in her office for a while letting the news sink in, this was a crushing defeat and she knew now that no matter what she did it would all be an uphill battle from today. Sitting in her large leather swivel chair looking out over the city she marveled at the vast expanse of Greater Los Angeles, sipping on a rum mojito while doing so. After having drank herself to the point of near intoxication she found her best wardrobe, while getting dressed she'd decided instead of going out with a whimper she should resign her presidency to her vice president, and go out with a bang. After she had finished putting her affairs in order she dialed up her Vice President, Natalie Kensington on the DVP. After a long conversation she had disclosed her intentions with Natalie that she was to tender her resignation as soon as she could arrive at the Capital to be sworn in as the new President of the nation.

President Jourgensen had called an emergency session of Parliament, and everyone came as called. Standing proudly for the last time as the President of the Californian Federation, Jennifer Jourgensen smiled jovially as if she had finally been freed from a life of servitude. "Ladies and Gentlemen of the 53rd Californian Parliament... I am sure you are wondering why you have been called here. It is with great gratitude and humility that I tender my resignation as President of California, immediately. And upon my resignation, I name my successor, my Vice President Natalie Sarah Kensington. Again, it has been a great pleasure serving you. During these few years that I have served as President of this nation I have done my utmost to ensure the safety and defense of this nation and to promote its better interests, now while some of those interests have put me under some heavy criticism from various spectrums I will stand by my decisions and will say today even as I prepare to leave this place for the last time that I am proud of my decisions and will have made then again — ten thousand times over if I were presented with the opportunity. So while my critics may be celebrating, while some who have supported me in the past have now distanced themselves from myself and the party I represent over the recent crisis in Canada, I only have this to say: I am not sorry. I refuse to apologize, and if you're expecting me to feel guilty, don't. While this crisis with Canada may have been the biggest political disaster since the collapse of the Soviet Union, I refuse to let this crisis jeopardize the unity of this country. So, with that said I wish to thank all of my friends, associates, partners and above all the former Democratic-Socialist Party. Thank all of you and goodbye." Making her way down from behind the podium, down from the stage and to the center aisle, she walked towards the main entrance. As she did so, various members of Parliament stood and gave applause as she slowly walked the central aisle and left the building. Within the hour, Vice President Natalie Kensington was sworn in and had become the new President of the Californian Federation.
OOC: For those who think that this change is going to drastically effect relations with California, you're goddamned right motherfuckers... it will. For those who are allied with California, including my allies in NATO,
while there will be changes — most notably in leadership — much of everything in California will remain the same if not slightly altered. So for those expecting an overnight change... to happen immediately don't hold your fucking breath.
