IC:
In the years after the Bush administration it took some time to rebuild American military might. US credibility took longer because of the self interests of the world's various nations.
The middle east remained a trouble spot with Islamists continuing to support terrorism and calling for the destruction of Israel and the Iraqi democracy. Iran continued to pour its agents and jihadists into Iraq in an attempt to destroy the government there and annex southern Iraq.
In Israel, an uneasy truce held even as Iran continued to arm Hezbollah and call for the annihilation of all Jews. Israel continued to attack Palestinian civilians whereby keeping the situation highly volatile.
President Sammy Davis was aware that isolating Tehran would be difficult at best if Israel was allowed free reign to sieze and torture civilians and invade other countries on the whim, and boot Palestinians out of their own homes just to make way for illegal settlements in the West Bank.
A new crises was created recently when the Israeli government announced it was destroying a Palestinian village just to make way for yet another settlement for extremist Jews.
While there had been sparring in the past the new situation threatened to create a regional conflict that could expand into a world war.
President Davis, an Iraq war veteran, was weary of having to send more troops to another middle eastern conflict. The best policy would be to try to head off such a conflict at the root.

He picked up a phone and called the Israeli Prime Minister and told him, in no uncertain terms, that the United States viewed with great disfavor, Israel's decision to dismantle an entire Palestinian town and illegally evict Palestinians from their homes. Either Israel would remove its support from the settlement, or the United States would withdraw support from Israel and take action to protect Palestinian civilians from Israeli deathsquads.
He also sent a message to Iran, through various third party nations, not to get involved in the Israeli situation or they would face a military attack from US forces in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.

His message to the two nations was simple when reported on the networks:
Iran must not get involved.
Iran must stop supporting terrorism.
Israel must stop its abuse of Palestinian Human Rights.
Israel must withdraw support of and dismantle the illegal settlement that is located on Palestinian territory.
If Israel does not comply, the US would withdraw support.
If Iran attacks Israel either directly or through Hezbollah or Hamas, the US would declare war on Iran.

Protests have erupted in the US over President Sammy Davis's new Mideast Policy.
Congressional opponents have called for an official investigation to find out if President Clinton took kickbacks from anti Israel lobbying groups.

President Davis called House Speaker Greg Voltaise and Senate Majority leader Valerie Flores to assure them that he had no intention of attacking Israel and that aid to Israel had not been halted. Both Voltaise and Flores are strongly pro-Israel.
House Minority Leader John Sanchez is the strongest opponent of Israel in the US Congress. He has said that he may make the issue of Israel and Israel's acts of terrorism an issue in the next election. The next Congressional election is in 2010.

Analyst Jermiah Johnson called the President's new policy on the middle east a major gaffe and predicted the President would change direction by next week.

OOC: added a section in the first post for possible roles for people to rp if they want. Israel is already taken.
In addition to foriegn nations, there is a new option to rp the character of a US policy maker if anyone is interested.
I'm doing the US President and the other US characters until we find someone who wants to do them.
Trying to make this a character rp as well as a diplomatic rp. It may develop into a character/war rp depending on what direction it takes.

The solid crack snapped out in the warm grassland air, a match grade seven point six two millimeter round screaming down range, tearing a hole through the face portion of a man sized target just under two hundred yards away. Seconds later another round cracked out, screaming towards the target. It hit just a hair to the left of the first. A good, clean group. His finger squeezed around the two pound trigger of the Springfield Armory M25 White Feather Tactical, pulling into the second stage, breaking clean, but comming off as a horn beeped behind him. The round went high, hitting in the upper portion of the forehead. It would have been a kill shot, but it wasn't what the shooter had wanted. He stood, collapsing the bipod, and turned to see the old Land Rover.

"Master Seargent, sorry to interupt your shooting practice. We may have a situation that requires you and your team."

The Master Seargent slung his rifle, and nodded. He climbed into the back of the Rover.

President Elle Harp sighed as she looked over the briefing. Israel had been a quick ally to the new nation, and the growing Elysium military had purchased much of its early surplus from the Middle East nation. The Israelis and South Africans had been fairly generous to the one time corporation, now nation. Most of their high ranked military commanders had been in the service of those two nations militaries, and often advisors were pulled in.

However, many of the citizens of the nation had, at one point or another, lived in the United States. It wasn't exactly a simple situation. Even though they were no longer Americans, they still felt a connection to their home nation, and wanted their new home to jump in line behind the Superpower. She sighed, leaning back in her chair. She dropped the brief on the table, and grabbed a phone off her desk. She punched in a number, getting the switchboard of the US Embasy in Rampant Elysium, and left a quick message.

"Yes, this is President Harp. I would like to speak to the US ambasador, if you could have him come out to the Presidential Mansion, I'd appriciate it. I can send a car if he needs one, thanks."

She hung up the phone, and noticed that an emergency meeting had been requested by LtCol. Ross North. She sighed, and called her Chief of Staff on a closed inner office line, and alerted the CoS that she would see North now. Moments later, the former US Army Special Forces officer, and now commanding officer of the Elysium Special Operations Command, stepped into the room. "Madame President," he said, curtly, nodding.

"Please, lieutenant colonel, sit," she said, cordially. He made his way to a desk chair, accepting her offer. "So what are you up to here today? Still probing around trying to find some funding for another Special Ops unit?"

The man chuckled. He had been a member of the 5th SFG(A), and seen combat in almost every hot zone in the Middle East. He had learned to take life easy and chuckle at the small jokes. "No ma'am, I'm here to talk about the brewing issue with our Jewish and American friends."

Harp nodded. She opened up a drawer on her desk, pulled out a small metal box, and flipped a switch, turning on a jamming signal to prevent prying eyes and ears from having any knowledge of the meeting. When it was on, she poured two glases of water, handing one to North, and smiled. "So, let me guess. As a former American, you want us to send in one of our Special Ops teams to keep the Israelis from pulling off their operation, because you know, having been in Washington, that they wont do anything for fear of upsetting a friend?"

"Actually," the colonel started, "I'm thinking something along the opposite. You know how I feel about the current administration, and I fully support the Israelis. They've found a way to keep from taking shit and made it into an art form. Worked with some of them when I was in Iraq, helluva spcial ops set up."

"So you want us to take military action against the United States if they should try to stop the Israelis?"

"Negative. I think we should send a few men to Israel, let them observe the situation there, and report back to us. Take the MSNBC bias out of the situation. Nothing beats humint."

"Agreed. Whats the plan?"

"I have two shooters. A Master Seargent Black and Seargent White."

"That their real names?" she asked with a curious look.

"Of course not," North replied. "Their from one of my new teams. Black was a SEAL sniper before comming to work for Reflex. White, well, we aren't sure, their are certian parts of his file we can't access. We assume Delta or something top up. Might not even be US. He came over right before the transition to nation state. I've seen them in action, they both know what they are doing. Put them in Israel, let them watch what's going on, and have them report back to us. I assume you have made contact with the US government?"

"The ambasador is on his way over, I'll be talking to him about it. If he follows State Department procedure, he'll agree to it no matter what he really thinks. So I doub't we'll get anything out of him, I just wanna know what really is happening."

"Excellent. Should I brief the men now?"

"No, wiat a few, I'll call you after the ambasador leaves. We'll decide on a plan of action then."

"Thank God"

Prime Minister Eli Calan had just gotten the news. The US had finally stopped protecting Israel. For years they had forced Israel to do bad things and not follow their own path. Now with the Americans the Israelis were finally free.

Calan looked over at his proud country. They had given the Palestinians Gaza and some of the West Bank, mostly ending the conflict. They had then invaded Lebanon and Syria and would have had them both if it had not been for pesky US meddling as they forced the Israelis to hand back Syria. Israel had been growing, stronger, and more prosperous every day. Since the end of the conflict the real estate in Israel had shot up, tourism had increased at a clip of 150% and there were no signs of it slowing down. All of Israel's neighbors had agreed to peace and those that held out were shunned by the power that Israel could muster.

An army of 1.2 million people. The number was decreasing every year of full time military personnel. While every 18 year old still had to go into the army the service time was only a year and it was mostly basic training at that. Everybody had to go to the reserves, just in case, but the possibility of using them was looking less and less likely. They had peace with the Syrians. The population continued to boom, it was currently at 15 million, or about that anyway.

Sure the Palestinian problem was still lingering but most of the world didn't care anymore. It was old news. Abbas had taken out Hamas and only the most extreme terrorists still tried. The IDF could handle it as most moderates had stopped the violence and economy of the Palestinians had gone up making the terrorists seem more extremist and out there.

Iran though was another issue. They had not been coming onto Israeli power for a long time and their use of nuclear weapons was almost too much. Then they support Hezbollah on top of that. It was almost too much to do anything. Then he remembered what no war had done to Israel so he let it go.

He now thought of how to make sure the public didn't go crazy like the US. He hoped it would be ok soon.

OOC: Where is Rampant Elysium located?

IC:
US Ambassador Danforth, a 85 year old career diplomat who was nearing his retirement, arrived at the Presidential Mansion in Rampant Elysium, accompanied by his aids.

They waited in the waiting room for President Harp to be notified of their arrival.

The Ambassador was looking forward to retiring. His replacement, David Buckingham, had been narrowly approved by the Senate along a party line vote.
Partisanship would be the death of America, he thought to himself. But next year it would no longer be his concern.

He had been briefed on the President's statement regarding Israel and Iran. He had agreed it was time for a new era of peace and democracy in the middle east. But he had been left out of the details regarding the President's plan.

President Davis called a cabinet meeting, and phoned the Israeli embassy to request the Israeli ambassador's attendance.
The lack of formal relations between the US and Iran precluded their presence at the meeting. One thing that Davis had decided that, come hell or high water, that era was over.
First thing in the morning he was to offer the Iranians the first direct diplomatic talks between the two nations since the 1979 revolution. However, he was going to put conditions on it. And he wanted to bring Israel into the loop.

OOC: I actually don't have a real location for it. I'm working on that part.

President Harp made her way to the reception area of the mansion, pushing away aides and advisors. She greated the ambassador cordually, and led him to her office, offering him anything he would want to drink. She herself took a glass of water, and sat behind her desk, across from the man.

"I'm glad you came," she started off, leaning back in her chair. "Now, if you don't mind, I think the best thing to do is just get to buisness. My only thought is the complexity of this new situation between you and the mediteranian states, mainly Israel and Iran. Now, as you know, we here in Rampant Elysium do have sort of normalized relations with both your country and Israel."

She paused for a moment, as if collecting her thoughts and words, and then contiued. "My big question is, what can we expect from the US in their actions regarding the situation?"

"It's a complicated situation politically. The State Department is going to oppose cutting off relations with Israel and the DOD is against it as well. Our military considers Israel a vital ally. But President Davis wants to end the view of America as having a pro Israel right or wrong that many people around the world have. He believes it necessary so as to gain support for possible military action against Iran."
He handed her a doucet of documents.
"I recieved these from the CIA, and these (he gave her another doucet of documents) from the FBI. So far, the DIA agrees with those predictions. Iran is still funding the groups Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and Hamas. Nothing new there. However, as you will see in the documents, Iran has recently signed on to support Al Qaeda.
The United States has reason to believe, that Iran may be planning a massive global attack against US/Israeli civilian interests. Contingency plans are being drawn for a strategic strike at Iran's nuclear weapons storage facilities and radar sites should the attacks happens. We are further drawing up plans for a massive ground invasion of Iran should it become necessary.
The President has made clear that starting next week, he will hold Iran accountable for any terrorist atrocities committed by Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, or Islamic Jihad.
It is a gamble that could backfire. That is why our relations with Israel at this point need to become more neutral and fair in comparison with other nations in the area. One way to do that is for us to demand that Israel dismantle the settlement that was recently set up in the West Bank. If they don't the most we'll probably do is slap them on the wrist with a ban on bulldozer sales to Israeli companies. It won't do much but it will allow President Davis to say that he is being fair and unbiased and actually doing something to protect the rights of Palestinians.
Our real concern right now is Iran cause they are planning something big."

Harp looked over the CIA briefs intently, hoping that the copies provided would remain in her possesion. She read intently while he spoke, matching his words with her reading.

"Well, its good to hear that everyone is finally starting to take a more hardline stance." She closed the two folders, stacking the FBI folder on top of the CIA folder, pushing them a short way off to the side. She took another sip of water, and collected her thoughts.

"I can understand President Davis's stance on the matter, I approve of it myself. But, as we both know, the situation in Israel isn't nearly as simple as many would like it to be. As they say, if you think you know whats going on, you probably have no idea. However, after looking at these documents," she nodded over to the two folders, "you can inform President Davis that he has my support. However, I have to know one thing. Should any overt or covert act be carried out against Iran, would I be, how should I put this, out of place, in asking that we be allowed in on the operation?"
