Wind whispered in the night, the silver clouds bringing in a flurry of snow, sprinkling the ground like sugar over cupcakes. The lights brightly lit the city of Suntura in A New Hope, the neutral grounds The Reich. And even though it was becoming late at night, many couples and families continued to stroll the streets, enjoying the lovely season.

Regardless of creed or culture, A New Hope always celebrated the seasons in one massive conglomerate. The winter season was what was to be celebrated in A New Hope. There was no happier time of the year for these people; it was a time free of fear from being targeted in the middle of the war and it was a time where families would get together with each other during rough times.

Feeling the hope that came with the first snow, Centralia donned her ball gown and examined herself for the umpteenth time that day in the full length mirrors of her room. She was excited for this moment more then anything; the annual ball that The Reich held was this year scheduled to be held in her hometown. Since the war had started though, few people celebrated the holidays, and now that the ball was the talk of nation, a good feeling spread throughout the people.....this could mean the end of the war. Moreover, it was international, which meant that she would have the chance to meet exciting foreign men. She simply had to look her absolute best for this occasion!

Being part of the invitation committee, she arranged for thousands of invitations to be sent. Feeling confident that this year would be a success, she finished the final touches in the ballroom. There was never more of frenzy about this nation. Swaying and dancing in her new dress and finding content with it, she removed the dress and placed on a pair of fleece pants and sweatshirt. There was some last minute shopping she needed to do in preparation for upcoming party.

Walking outside, the darkness brought with it cold temperatures, but the best part about that was the snow. She stuck her tongue out like a child and caught a snowflake on it. It instantly melted, bringing with it a burst of giddish joy. “Winter was finally here!”

Skipping, as childish as it seemed, she bought the necessary items that she quested out for. Enjoying the lights of the city on her walk back, she admired the golden lure the city had to it. In the night time, the city took on its true beauty, gleaming with golden light even when frosted over. Even the sky was wonderful in its own way, a silver hue to it in the darkness. She smiled to herself; nothing was more pleasant.

When she had arrived back home, she fell to sleep early, knowing that she had to wake early to greet the guests and escort them to the hall. Dreaming of snow, Centralia slept soundly, waking early the next morning to see the ground covered in a good foot of snow.

Normally she would have reacted happily to this, but the fear that their guests may run into some problems at the airport brought panic to her. She rushed to her phone, dialing the airport to inquire about delays, but when they notified her that they were already cleared, she sighed in relief. It seemed that the day would go better then she instantly thought it would have.

Dressing in a long black dress, the dress shaping to her figure, she did her hair quickly. Staring back at her in the mirror was a tall thin woman five feet and eight inches tall. She had her auburn hair pinned up in a French twist and her chocolate eyes gave a quick approving wink before setting out the door.

She had only an hour to get to the airport before guests would start to arrive and for this, she could not be late.

Sir Erik Markus set his first foot out upon the Suntura Airport floor. The first Blastonian to set foot on A New Hope, or even The Reich grounds. In fact, he was one of the few Blastonian citizens to have the pleasure of taking a 'vacation' out of his isolationist homeland and to be invited to a ball was quite the incentive to leave. He had grown bored with the common occurences in his homeland, the daily rebel captures, how great their "Glorious Leader" was...things like that.

Erik took a deep breath of the air and smiled as he fixed his long dark frock coat and his bow tie. Winter...the greatest of seasons. The joy of snowfall, the lavish coats, the children frolicking in the snow... he thought to himself as he walked a bit further away, realizing he had been blocking a few passengers.

Erik wore, under his coat, a beautifully fashioned tuxedo. He has, afterall, need to make a good first impression, since there was only one chance to make a first impression.

The Blastonian citizen stood at six foot, two inches, with light blue eyes and a broad smile. One could easily mistake him for the average gentleman, if it hadn't been for his small, spikey hair. He was no punk rocker, but his short, spikey black hair seemed to show he was not the average person.

Now where was I supposed to be recieved? Or was I supposed to pick out my baggage first? He thought to himself, searching his pockets for the invitation. He knew he had it...

After about two minutes of fruitless searching, he ran a white gloved hand through his spikey hair as panic slowly began to creep into him. He took a deep breath and began to calm himself as he closed his eyes and continued to search.

"Might as well search as I go to baggage. Perhaps I will be recognized by my clothing."

Chatting with one of the guards ordered to provide protection during the event, Centralia nearly missed one of the guests arriving. If Aristes hadn't nodded in the man's direction, she would have missed him.

Smiling to her friend, she thanked him as she rushed off after her first guest....mentally cursing herself for nearly screwing up so early on the very first guest.

"Sir," she called outloud, her heeled shoes clicking off the floor in rapid persuit of the guest. Catching up with him, she took a deep breath, steadying herself on his shoulder. "Oh dear," taking a deep breath, "I'm so sorry sir. Chit-chatting.....you know us women.... Welcome to The Reich. Well, actually, welcome to A New Hope. I'm Centralia, I shall be your escort for the evening," she smiled to the man.

Extending her delicate hand, she tried to make amends for her slagging. But before her guest could take it, she pulled it back. "Oh, stupid me," she said, reaching into her bag and removing a small package from within. "Here you go, a gift from The Reich. Feel free to open it when you wish."

Realizing she hadn't even asked her guest's name, she mentally cursed herself again, thinking that she was really off to a poor start. "I'm sorry sir, what is your name even? I'm a little nervous.....if you couldn't tell. I'm usually not a babbling idiot," she said with a laugh, trying to ease any tension that may have arisen if not from him, from her.

"Oh?" Erik said as an afterthought when he was stopped by the sound of clacking shoes against the floor. He jumped slightly as he felt someone steady themself on his shoulder and blushed ever so slightly. He turned around slowly and smiled as he was met by a tall, beautiful woman. Already brightening my visit... he thought cheerfully.

As she extended her hand, he began to lower himself in a bow to take her hand, when she retracted it rapidly to pull out a gift. Again, Erik reddened in the face as his fingers slowly wrapped around the gift's edges.

He let out a quiet laugh and smiled at Centralia. "You have a beautiful name, Miss Centralia. I am, however, Erik Markus. Better known as, Erik." He chuckled again as he gave her a low bow.

"However, do not worry about yourself. It is not only women who find themselves chit-chatting," he chuckled again as he looked down at his gift. "Besides, what fun is a holiday ball without the nervousness and anticipation, right?"

"Plus, it goes to show that we all are human. Or atleast not perfect...in every way. Take me for example. I am rather embarassed to admit it, but I failed to have bought a gift for you, Miss Centralia. I regret so now that I think of it. You see, I seem to be plagued by misfortune as I also cannot find my Invitation...But do not worry about that. I have it on me somewhere." He grinned at Centralia, his cheeks remaining a light red in color.

"I seem to be the first person to arrive. Perhaps you may be able to tell me a bit about yourself so that I may be able to find some sort of suitable gift for yourself?"

Blushing herself, Centralia began to babble again, "oh, no need sir....Mister Markus....I mean Erik...oh....wait...is that alright to call you that? Thank you though. I mean....I really appreciate your concern, but there is no need to. I....it's very kind of you, but you really don't have to get me or anyone anything. It's winter! We're just glad to have you here. And about your invitation, if you end up not being able to find it, don't worry, I'm sure we have a spare for you," she continued on, feeling herself turn redder with each realization that she was so nervous.

"Bags!" she exclaimed. "Oh, I knew I was forgetting something. Shall we go collect them? If you don't have anything that you need right away, you can leave them here and they will be brought to your room. Suntura has quite a reputation for not misplacing anyone's luggage," she said with a wink, trying to promote her beloved home while desperately trying to alleviate some of that nervousness.

"He thought my name was beautiful," she thought as a flush of red surfaced again. "Dear, it's rather warm in this airport," she spoke quickly, trying to mask the thoughts that she swore could be read by anyone who walked by.

"Did you want to get your luggage or go through a tour of Suntura?" she asked, her mind racing around like a rat in a maze.

"You may call me either, Miss Centralia, although my friends tend to call me Erik," he replied with a wink. "And please, I insist. I shall get you a gift, whether you like it or not!" he added with a chuckle.

"I trust in your words. I have nothing of immediate importance in my bags, unless I were somehow to lose my clothing-" he chuckled and shook his head, hoping she did not take it the wrong way. "All my luggage has are a few baubles, trinkets, and clothing really." He smiled at her and couldn't help but laugh quietly. How red can she get? he thought with a broad smile.

"It is quite warm in this airport, I must say, but a tour may be able to help give us a much needed breeze? Besides, the view from the airplane was fantastic from above. I cannot wait to see Suntura from ground level."

Popeleoma Del Signe's chief minister, Joseph Farragut stood on the rich heavy woven rug staring at the ornate mirror on the wall. He heaved a heavy sigh as he sank into the overstuffed executive chair. He winced from discomfort as his bare skin peeled from the leather and he reached over at the small pile of mail on the large desk. He grabbed the miniature sword letter opener on his desk and fingered it for awhile, then unsheathed it and started opening the envelopes one by one only to reveal bills which had passed through the DUMA and the Politiburo. He tossed the letter opener back into his drawer and swiveled around. He stared at the numerous paintings which lined the sides of the office like at the Meschamp'e gallery in Håa. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a flash of gold on the floor and he pushed himself out of the chair. He bent over to pick the errant envelope and stared at the hand lettered envelope. He mouthed the words silently, staring at each curve and swipe in the lettering of his name. Sitting back down at the desk, he pulled out the letter opener again and sliced the envelope open and pulled the card out. He sighed as he saw the gilt embossed card.

"You have been invited, blah blah blah... mmhm to the Reich Ball... blah blah... yadda yadda...Suntura hm... Centralia"

He replaced the card inside the envelope, and walked over to the lunch trolley and picked up the carafe that stood partially filled with water. He dropped three cubes into a glass, and filled the glass. Leaving the glass on the trolley, Joseph walked over to the desk and clicked the intercom.

"Ms. Hoosier, if you please, send up the tailor."
"Sorry sir, but the tailor is with Minister Woodliff at the moment."
"Well, when he's done have him come over to my office for a tuxedo fitting."
"Yes sir."

The intercom screeched as it clicked off. He stood once again in front of the ornate mirror staring at himself. He was a minister, a young one at that and only thirty years old. This was the first time he had the time to go to the annual ball and other years, he had either been on business or spending time with his family in the coastal region of Popeleoma Del Signe for Christmas. With his wife away on business, there was nothing to do around in Troyes except for feeding the hippos and monkeys at the zoo and the occasional Ferry trip into the Industrial area. He walked back to the intercom on the desk and clicked it again.

"Ms. Hoosier, come in please"
"Yes Mr. Farragut"

An elderly women walked into the large office. Her suit rumpled slightly was ill fitting and tacky as the floral print clashed with everything in the room except for the planter outside the window.

"Take notes if you will. Um... hm.. lets see. Ok. Dictation for today. Uh, make travel arrangements for Suntura with the Royal Air Company. Make sure that on board, there is a fur blanket, a copy of "Saldzug Uppshantz" in the seat and oh, any word on the tailor?"
"Yes sir, he's coming up with Minister Woodliff"
"All right, continue writing Ms. Hoosier. What else... hm. Ah. Make a reservation arrangements at the Grand Lalique."
"Sorry sir, but international members are to stay at the compound."
"Oh fie. All right. Thank you Ms. Hoosier, that shall be all for now."

The lanky woman strode towards the door and left. The tailor entered followed by minister Woodliff.

"What shall it be sir?" the tailor asked.
"Uh, I have been invited to the uh... Reich ball and I need something well... you know..."
"Opera vest, white tie and tails sir"
"Yes, that would do nicely"

The tailor stepped into the adjacent office and emerged wheeling in a large three panel mirror. He placed a leather stool in front of the mirror and Joseph stepped behind the silk partition in the corner of the office.

"So John, what occasion did you need the tailor for hm?"

Minister John Woodliff, a tall and heavy set younger minister sat in the leather couch. He scratched his small beard and leaned his head back against the sofa. His long curly hair drooped over his shoulder as he stared at the ceiling. He made his reply.

"I'm going to the ball as well."
"Ah, good company I will most definitely have good company over then."
"I suppose. I'm probably going to just fall asleep on the way over. I just finished dealing with that pile of envelopes in my office."
"Fun hm?"

Joseph emerged only in a pair of pinstriped boxers and an undershirt and stepped onto the stool. The old tailor started measuring every thing about the half naked minister. He cut some material and began working quickly.

"Joseph, I dont get it. You're never around this time of year, and yet here you stand before me."
"Har har. You know my wife had to cancel on the trip at the last moment. It's enough that I'm not sitting in Svan drinking something fruity. So I guess i'm going to the ball"

He stood silently as the old man danced around him sticking pins and clipping things and sewing quickly. Joseph stared at the mirror, staring at his limber arms and scratchy beard. He made a sharp intake as the tailor poked him with a needle.

"sorry sir"
"yeah, I've got my mail to go back to. I'll see you on the plane. I've checked with your secretary and i'll be on that flight."

John strode out of the office leaving the two men in silence. Half an hour later, they were finished and the tailor had left to finish up the jacket. Joseph stood by the window watching people walk by in the street. A small fat lady with her shopping, two alike children running around a lamp post, a dog chasing a post officer down the street. He suddenly felt lonely again and Ms. Hoosier emerged through the doors again.

"Sir, I have your ticket with Royal Air. You have a fun time there. I'll have your tuxedo sent over when it's complete and there is a limo waiting for you in the courtyard. Mr. Woodliff is waiting in there already. I've taken the liberty of packing in a few personal items... so you have a safe trip sir."
"Um thank you Sandra. I dont know where i'll be without you."

He turned on his heels and made for the door. He walked through the small adjacent office and into the tiled hallway. The dim lights started to swing and had an eerie effect as the ventilation rumbled on. He emerged into a small court yard. A leafless tree stood on each side of the doorway and there was a light snow falling. A car was waiting, its engine idling to stay warm. He got in and the car started for the airport.

Joseph stood in the main terminus at Suntura staring at the people rushing back and forth around him. John nudged him in the back and they proceeded down the concourse.

"What are we supposed to do John?"
"Dont worry your head over it. I've been to a few of these sort of events."
"mmhm.. And what is it. That we do. About now?"

John laughed.

"Usually, there's someone here to pick us up. They probably will have a sign with our name on it. I made the necessary arrangements en-route."

Joseph shifted his weight uneasily from one foot to the other as he said that. They were still walking through the long concourse and arrived at the baggage terminal. They stood outside in the cold nippy air.

Joseph thought. "Hm, it's nice here. I ought to bring the wife here sometime." A snowball whizzed by his head.

"SORRY SIR!" yelled a young boy 10 feet away.
"You get over here!" John lunged foward. But he was held back by Joseph.
"Look, we're guests here."
"Sorry, I dont know what came over me. Look, it's around 4:30. Someone should be coming by to collect us and our bags."

Katie Sharle was not one to miss an occasion. She was feeling slightly peturbed by her recent visit to Nova Aquaria, where she had been held hostage, but she felt that maybe this would turn out a little better. She was glad to see the snow falling all around the plane as it began to descend, she had opted for a white dress for the event, but this made no difference because she would be changing into it at a later point. Right now she was wearing a dark business suit, for the meeting and greeting at the airport.

The plane was now approaching the runway, after circulating a couple of times waiting it's turn. There were afterall many planes coming down, this being such a high profile event.

As she got out of the plane she met her new surroundings with a smile. The plane had landed almost as delicatly as the snow was landing on the roofs of the airport builings, without one bump. The ariport concrete that would normally seem ugly and unwelcoming now look fantastical, completely transformed by one layer of shimmering snow. She slowly descended the steps, onto a long carpet winding its way to the airport, linded with media cameras a newsreporters, begging for a quote. She pleasantly obliged, and even let herself comment on the Nova Aquarian ball a few months ago declaring all the terroists had been safetly detained. She continued her way, subtle looking out for a representative of Der Fuhrer Dyszel.

You are cordially invited to… Shen-Jin read aloud. Of course, the letter was addressed to Ravelyn Shentavo, but being the kind man that he was, he was willing to take her spot in this public affair. He laughed and slipped the letter into his pocket. He figured it would be pretty high class, which, well, Shen-Jin was. With his short silver hair and piercing blue eyes he was also quite the sight as well. Every Shentavo possessed some form of beauty, and some embraced it. Shen-Jin embraced it to the fullest. He walked up to the third floor of the mansion and entered his room. He rummaged through the dresser before deciding on a pair of black dress slacks and a matching black jacket. He wore a light blue shirt with the top few buttons undone. There were few men who could pull that off, and by god he could. He traced his fingertips over the tattoo on the left side of his face. It was a light blue color; the tribal symbol of a rose. He checked himself once more in the mirror. He would have fun tonight; pick up a woman or two, bring them back to the mansion after the party, have some fun, let them go, then face Ravelyn’s wrath. To him, it was worth it.

He took a plane to the Reich, a private plane. Upon landing he stepped out and trailed around the airport, walking through the covered makeshift hallway into the airport. He was greeted by the flash of cameras, and he paused at every reporter, stopping by one of the blondes to whisper something in her ear, and to her reaction she laughed, and she blushed, and he continued on his way. Up ahead he saw a woman who was on the other side of the reporters. He figured that she was also going to the ball. She seemed a little nervous, but had given one quote to the reporters. The reporters on either side continued to eat away at his image with their eyes as if they wanted to devour them. As he smiled, a set of fangs were revealed. That got more flashes, and the blonde leaned forward.

“Sir, where are you from?” she questioned holding out the microphone to him.

“The Three United Empires, my dear…” he said with another smile, and she blushed.

“Sir---“

“You don’t have to call me sir. My name is Shen-Jin Shentavo,” he whispered, and her eyes widened. He knew all along that she was a reporter from the Three United Empires. Shentavo…that name meant something to them. It meant he was a member of the royal family, Ravelyn’s descendent. She blushed, and he made his way through the reporters and up towards where the other woman walked. He looked at her… Katie Sharle. He walked beside her and turned his head, his blue eyes the color of a clear sky on a spring day. “It seems you are attending as well…perhaps you can help me as I am not familiar with where exactly, I should be going.”

Rampant Elysium
16-12-2006, 20:13
Rampant Elysium was not so much a nation as it was a nation within a nation. A recently formed one, which would be holding it's first elections shortly, a new home for all walks of life outside of their homes. At this time, there was no such person as an Elysian, they had no official anything, they were more of an autonomous region within a larger nation. Therefore, they had no official delegates to send to any sort of governmental ball or function.

However, this did not stop LtCol. James Van Derhof. Van Derhof, formaly of Johannesburg, South Africa, and now one of the three primary contenders for the Elysian presidecny, had been asked to go to Rampant Elysium in order to help form and begin training of what would soon be the Elysian army. He had liked the land, and soon purchased a house, and after living in the territory for a number of years, renounced his South African citizenship, and became one of the first citizens. And now, in his running for Elysian President, he would let it be one cold day in hell before he passed up a chance to garner international support for his candidacy.

The Gulfstream V biz jet, painted in Elysian Livery, landed gently and jared the military man awake. He was dressed casually, jeans, a crimson red polo, and a sport coat, but his suit bag held his dress uniform. He would change before the ball started, making sure his suit was well pressed, the rank and medal bars polished well, and give his side arm one last cleaning and shoes one last polish.

He removed his sports jacket, and slid off the over the shoulder holster, leaving it on the plane. He felt it un needed, and, after locking a few documents regarding military special weapons programs into a breifcase, he exited the plane into the throng of media reporters. He pushed through the reporters, his suit bag tossed over his shoulder, answering few questions.

As many others arrived, the invitation and welcoming committees fervently rushed about welcoming each new guest, presenting them with a small package upon arrival. To each arrival, an exclusively unique gift was given; one person though would receive the highlight of the event and was conveniently stored away for later.

Seeing a group of people gathering, Aristes made his way over to the group; an apparently popular woman, an eye catching male, a group of flashing lights and rapid firing questions, and a few others gathered. Speaking loudly to attract the attention of the masses, Aristes deep voice carried better then even the loudspeakers, "Attention everyone. Hello. I'm going to have to ask that this congregation move away from the terminal. As it is my responsibility to see that optimum protection be given to our guests, I must dissuade the media from coming any further unless you have sought approval and received clearance through The Board of Security, division of The Reich Military. Guests, please follow me," he politely ordered, being authoritative but respectful all at the same time.

Bundling up in her white jacket lined in elegant gold and sliding on a pair of matching gloves, Centralia led Erik outside the terminal into the day light, a silver and white hue tinted everything in sight. She could not help but burst with ecstasy; she loved winter more then any other season. The snow sprinkled the hood of her white and gold lined jacket; she could not help but look up at Erik with a genuinely happy smile spread across her face. "Isn't it so beautiful," she asked, stepping out in front of him and swirling about in the snow. "I just love winter here!" she beamed, grateful for such a beautiful day.

Facing Erik, she grabbed his gloved hand in hers and pulled him along, more then happy that she was able to show someone else the wonder of this city. "Oh, look over here," she pointed to two families whose children ran around the outside of the terminal, hastily making snowballs to throw at each other. "In A New Hope, we look forward each year to the winter months. Suntura prides itself in being one of the few remaining Reich cities that has maintained the spirit of the winter. If you stay long enough, hopefully you will begin to see that the holidays have more of a meaning to them then most nation's traditional holidays. It's not a season to celebrate the birth of anyone or a season to celebrate the idea of spending exuberate amounts of money or lighting candles every night. It's a time to realize your fortunes," she spoke with conviction her voice, a passionate subject to her.

Pulling him into a horse drawn carriage that was waiting outside just for this event, she began to laugh at the thought that had just occurred to her. "You know Erik, they were planning on holding this event in Stadt des Meeres, the wonder of The Reich, this year. Lucky for me I guess that Suntura was chosen instead to host this event; apparently, as rumor has it, Stadt befell a terrible tragedy, but no such thing has ever been confirmed. Oh dear....I'm rambling again....." she blurted out, feeling embarrassed that she became so passionate about the subject.

“Well, looks like the party has started,” he said to the girl, flashing his light blue eyes towards her. He left her side with a smile. He would be back to her later, but now he wanted to see who else was there. He eyed the host, and sighed softly. He was a little sad that the media would not be following. He particularly liked the blonde, who nearly shouted out when media access was denied. He blew her a kiss, and then laughed inwardly. He followed the host, and took the present which was carefully placed into his hands with a murmur of seasons greetings. He arched his silver brow as he looked at the package, not quite sure what to do with it. What the hell is this? he wondered, and unfolded the wrapping.

Erik laughed and looked around. It truly was beautiful. The pleasant lights, the bright and cheery atmosphere, the cool snow falling on his face. Not to mention the beauty and enthusiasm of his host. He couldn't help but get in the spirit of things.

He grew red in the cheeks when she walked in front of him and took his hand, but he just laughed as he was pulled along behind Centralia, listening intently at the wealth of the Reich winterland information the woman had to offer. She certainly seemed like she loved it. He watched the children toss the small snowballs at each other, almost tempted to join in, as it brought back old memories of when snowfall in his hometown.

When he was pulled into a carriage, he smiled as he took a seat next to Centralia and looked into her eyes with interest as she spoke. His hands idly turned his gift in his hands.

"Wow, Centralia," he chuckled. "It is so beautiful here. I loved winter in my homeland, but this...this is something different." He looked down at his present and smiled as he looked back up. "It also seems like you have a good philosphy as to enjoy these winter months. Fortune is always something that seems to be forgotten amongst the advertisements saying 'you must have this and that to enjoy the holidays'. It kind of ruins the meaning of the holidays, you know? He sighed and glanced out the window again, but smiled as he looked at Centralia. "So far, I am quite glad the festivities could take place here in Suntura."

He looked down at his gift and spoke quietly. "May I ask as to what has happened to Stadt?"

"I am glad as well," Centralia spoke with a beaming smile, enjoying every moment of this holiday.

Hearing about Erik inquiring about Stadt though, it seemed to throw her off guard. She hadn't expected anyone to ask about The Reich, especially not Stadt even though she was the one to have brought the subject up. But it showed that he was interested in their history, in their region, and that brought comfort to her. "Well," she said, leaning closer and whispering, as if the very walls could hear her talking about a forbidden subject, "they say that Stadt des Meeres was recently attacked and the entire city was destroyed. It was the last remaining city in The Dictatorship, absolutely beautiful it was. I was there once as a child, and oh goodness, you should have seen it! It's set off the coast, and they have everything lined in real silver and gold so that when the sun comes up, it strikes off certain points and creates this unbelievable sight! We used to go there all the time when I was a child for winter and summer because they would have the best celebrations, but when some chemical was released in the Reich during the war, no one was allowed into the nation ever again. And no one's really left the nation to tell of what has happened since....it's assumed everyone is dead. But someone said that this Admiral Hunny*Dew who took over The Reich as acting Dictator made mention to Stadt having fallen. And now since the holidays are not going be held there.....I'm guessing its pretty accurate. Rumors are after all based on something, even if they become fully twisted by the end of the story," she said with a wink.

"OH LOOK!" she exclaimed, "STOP!" Hopping out of the carriage and pulling Erik with him before he could get an idea of what was happening, she pulled him before a small clearing that was almost completely obstructed from view....only someone who knew the nation well could have known it was there. Pulling him the clearing and immediately moving behind him and covering his eyes, she nudged him forward a bit, "no peaking you!"

With a beaming smile, she uncovered his eyes to reveal the great hall spread out before them, gleaming and glimmering, bustling with activity. They were looking down onto it, the forest spread out behind it, deer trotting through the snow covered grounds. It was massive, even looking form a birds eye view. "Isn't it gorgeous? That's where the party is going to be held, but don't tell....it's a secret," she finished with a wink, moving aside of him to look at the beauty herself.

This was her favorite view of the city....her solace during trifling times. It seemed only appropriate to share it with someone else.

Erik continued to listen as she spoke of the terrible rumors of Stadt. It certainly wasn't such a great topic when there was other, much happier things to speak about. He frowned and looked slightly ashamed as his eyes turned to his gift again. He smiled again, however, when she gave him a wink, giving him a small boost in his confidence again. "I'm sorry to bring up such-" he began, before he was pulled- or dragged- out of the carriage. "Oh...dear," he managed to say as he almost got dizzy by all the pulling. But he enjoyed it, giving a laugh as she covered his eyes.

"What if I trip on something?" he asked with a smile as he slowly advanced to where she directed him. This is certainly the most awkward visit I have ever made. But it is certainly quite enjoyable.

When Centralia uncovered his eyes, he gasped in amazement and took a few steps foward. "It's...It's...incredible..." he gasped. People walked about, preparing, creating, organizing, like a colony of ants- everyone set to a purpose, doing what they must efficiently, as far as he could tell. The lights gave a warm glow to the surrounding snow, giving Erik a warm feeling of happiness in his stomach. He turned towards Centralia, his smile the brightest yet.

"It's amazing, Centralia..." he said quietly. His hands searched for hers and gently lifted them. "You told me, this was the season of fortune. I already can tell my fortune has been quite good since you stopped me," he laughed. "I am honored to have you as my guide and...quite fortunate. Thank you." He bowed his head slightly and smiled as he raised it back. "My friends back home would not believe me if I told them how beautiful it is here...It is like a dream."

"Precisely!" she smiled, "A New Hope is based off a dream....quite the impression we wanted from you all. It was built on the hopes and dreams of the founders who were trying to escape war. They wanted it to be everything they ever wanted out of life. I'm glad to know that it is serving its purpose. It true is amazing. I'm fortunate to live in such a place all the time."

Enjoying the scene for a moment, she smiled and looked to Erik, "Well, ready to see more? I think the party is going to begin to collect in the hall soon, so perhaps we should continue," she offered kindly, feeling more excited then ever for this ball.

She was unsure of how many people would be there, but guessing by the activity, more then had hoped would arrive were planning to attend.

"I am ready as ever," Erik replied, taking one last glance at the wondrous view of the city. Already filled with views of grandeur and warmth, he was excited to find out what else the city had to offer. Not to mention to find a gift for his hostess.

Erik would not open his gift until he had found one for Centralia. It wouldn't feel right...Besides, she has been gracious enough to show me around and give me a secret 'backstage access' of the great hall, he thought as he began to wonder what exactly he could get her. He had several ideas, but she had yet to answer his question of what she would want. Perhaps I will ask the question again soon...

"I can't wait for the ball to begin. I am already loving my visit so far!"

Katie was ushered by a very polite gentlemen to leave the carpet area, and move away from the terminal. She gave one last smile at the assembled media and stepped into the car to be whisked away towards the palace, and the ball. She closed off the view to her driver and changed with style, ready to leave the car when she arrived at the ball, seemingly transformed. She had not discussed the trick with the PR, so she was a little apprehensive. However for once she got to decide what she would wear, and what image she would give off. Hopefully a very feminine one.

She had a couple of moments to go over her agenda for the evening, and thankgod it was not a very detailed one. All she had been perscribed to do was meet some diplomats and hopefully forge some new "relationships" with other nations. She had been told to avoid monarcys and communists, but she had discussed in great detail with the President himself and they had decided to go against their advisors' many "ideas". Her plan was to open up trade to all types of nations, for all she cared "as long as the country works, and the people don't mind, the governments fine by us." She just had to boost the economy, which was the governments priority at the moment.

Joseph and John stood on the claim sidewalk for about a minute before being unceremoniously ushered into an idling black government car. The car worked its way into the traffic and as it slowly crept along, Joseph stared out the frosted window. He noticed a gaggle of reporters clambering around one person, but he couldn't make out who it was and he slunk back forward. After another fifteen minutes of stop and go traffic out of the airport, the car hummed as it drove through the airport. Outside the window was something magical. People in heavy winter coats walking about, the shops were all brightly lit. There was an occasional Reich Donation Collector on the corner and when the traffic lights were red, Joseph rolled down the window and shoved in about 30 kronas.

"You know, you needn't be so generous all the time." John said.
"Well, you ought to be a bit more generous. How else do you think I was elected as the prime minister?"
"Money?"
"Charity idiot. Charity makes the world go round"
"Whatever. You feed to poor, i'll golf."

Joseph chuckled and the the two resumed their cold silence. John was looking over several papers and manila envelopes as the car sped. The car passed a carriage sitting idle. Suddenly, the driver spoke up.

"Ministers, my name is Paul, i'm your government sanctioned driver and your country hired me and my car. So you're both in good hands. Minister Farragut, your tuxedo was flown in on an earlier flight. I have it here in this package"

He handed Joseph a large parcel paper wrapped package.

Ten minutes later, the car stopped outside the gates a large stately looking manor building. Tables and folding chairs were being set up on the lawn while the occasional animal trotted between them, dancing over the snow. The two men emerged from the back of the car in their tuxedos and fur overcoats, Joseph donning a large red sash and several order medals. John with his medals and a significantly smaller sash.

"Well Joseph, be on your best behavior. If you know me, I wont hang around with you."
"Ministers! I'll be back to pick you up when you need me. I took the liberty of leaving my number in your pockets. Just call me, and i'll be here in no time at all. I'm going to drop off your luggage at the compound. Have a good time sirs!"
"Driver! Wait a moment."

John stepped back into the car and picked up the telephone and punched in several buttons. Joseph could barely make out an audible conversation coming from the back seat. He wheeled around restlessly, holding the cast iron grille work of the fence with his gloves. He spotted a charming woman at the far end of the field, accompanied by a tall looking man in a tuxedo. He gritted his teeth and tugged at his tie and continued to stare at the two of the chatting.

"Joseph! The party is being thrown by a Miss Centralia, or at least run by her I think. Since we're already Reichmen, we'll have to meet with her later."

Joseph nodded in acknowledgment and wheeled back towards the fence. John blurted angrily as he threw the reciever into its place, "Where the hell is the escort who's supposed to take us in? It's damn nippy. Joseph, get back in the car we'll stay warm with the heater on. Someone is bound to come through those gates to collect us."

James gladly accepted the invitation to the waiting ride, and pushed his way away from the reporters. He had never liked the media, they had oft created uneducated veiws among the populace against his missions and tasks both in South Africa and Rampant Elysium. To the media, he was a mercenary, a soldier of fortune, a greedy war monger, and other not so happy connotations. He hooked his suit bag up on the 'oh shit' handle, and slipped into the limmo quietly.

He watched as they pulled away from the crowd in the convoy, and made the assumption that they would be ushered to their quarters later, and now he would have to make do. He had changed in vehicles before, but switching fatigues and battle gear in the back on an APC was a world of difference from switching from casual to formal in the back of a limmo. But he would do his best.

His best, it turned out, was damned good. He easily slipped into the dress uniform, making sure the appropriate insignias were attached and straight, and that his few medals earned in the service of Rampant Elysium were properly polished. He removed a small shoe polish kit for his dress shoes, and quickly added an extra shine. His Kimber Eclipse dress side arm was clean and bright on the exterior, and he could only hope the weapon, in its well polished dress holster, wouldn't be to much of an offense. He slipped in the single stack magazine, racked the slide, and then lowered the hammer, slipping the weapon into the holster. He ran a quick hand through his graying hair, taking a slight bit of control of the mess, and brushed off the shouler boards of his jacket.

He had finished tieing the shoes right as the limmo rolled to a stop, and just as he sat up and brushed off the jacket one last time, the door to the car opened, and James stepped out, holding himself proud and upright, and removing his hat, tucking it under his arm. He thanked the driver, and stepped up through the doors to the ball.

Enjoying Erik's company, Centralia returned to the carriage. Sliding back in aside of him, she was glad that Suntura was hosting this event. Never could she have hoped for a better oppurtunity then this one.

Pointing out small landmarks, gleeful families waving at them, and the great hall spreading out before them, Centralia smiled happily with Erik, waving back to those who greeted the guests with warm welcomes into Suntura.

They rode the carriage into the main gates, where she let Erik off with a warm smile and handshake.

"I have to change for the event, but I will be back later. It was very nice having this oppurtunity to meet you," she spoke kindly, somewhere within her wishing that it didn't have to end so quickly, but knowing that it simply had to.

Instructing that all guests who might still arrive be reported to him before being brough over to the great hall, Aristes took some of the remaining guests at the airport with him on his way to the great hall.

Unlike the hostess Centralia, Aristes did not point out the details of Suntura, believing firmly that if they wanted to know anything, they would ask. Somewhat cold and stern in manner, Aristes came off to be a very stoic man. For this, he was thankful....it meant that many people avoided asking questions, which meant he had little to say. The less he had to say, the happier he was.

Arriving at the gates of the great hall, it was already dark out. The lights shone brightly from within, warm and welcoming, friendly to all. He merely opened the door, escorting the guests out, with only a head nod to acknowledge them before leading them into the great hall where the ball was to be held.

Shen-Jin entered the party, fighting internally not to say something to Aristes, for he heard the soft whispers of his mind, and thought it would be fun to toy with him. He sighed softly, running one hand through his silver hair revealing the light tattoo on the side of his face that wasn’t there by choice, but by birth. It was the reason that he became a Shentavo; that and Ravelyn had an eye for particular beauty. It wasn’t Shen-Jin’s abilities as a fighter that turned him, but his appearance. One might say that was selfish of her, but she was in no way involved with her kin. Someone of his appearance could often be used to get information from people that some of her children simply wouldn’t have access too. All of them possessed beauty; but his was something different entirely all hidden behind his piercing blue eyes. He looked maybe twenty eight; but had the well build structure of a military man.

He waited against the wall, wondering if that woman would be entering soon. He needed to find something to entertain himself with. It wasn't like he was going to be eating any of the food. Perhaps a guest, but not the food.

Erik's carriage ride was exciting and joyful as they went around to see more landmarks. However when the Great Hall loomed ahead, Erik's anticipation grew with each passing second. He couldn't wait.

And then he was let off at the main gate, gift in hand. He turned around and smiled at his kind hostess as he recieved a handshake and a smile in return.

"I hope to see you at the ball, Centralia. As I said before, I am grateful that you were my hostess. I had a really great time..." He smiled at her, wishing and hoping that she will join him at the ball. Or atleast he will see her again. "Fortune must be smiling down on me." He bowed low and waved good-bye, his smile fading as she was carried away.

He spun around on the heel of his shoe and walked towards the entrance where he saw guests flooding in.

James entered the ball room behind his host, thanking him curtly, and moved towards an open space, his hat still tucked in under his arm. His hope was that he could form a small network of international support for his presidency, but have some fun first. His campaign trail had been difficult up to this point, it was somewhat difficult for a military man to win votes in a rather peaceful nation. Still, he had high hopes, he was doing well in the polls at last check.

He decided that the politicking and elbow rubbing could wait, and made his way to the bar, ordering a Tanqueray and Tonic, with extra lime juice. He found what seemed to be a nice spot to wait for more guests, and watched as the dignitaries, VIPs, representatives, and other guests arrived.

Joseph and John had sat for about a half hour shivering in the back seat of the car. The driver had refused to leave the car on since there were strict smog regulations to protect the air in Suntura. The carriage they had seen earlier stopped in front of the gates and the two Joseph had noticed earlier stepped out. The main gates had opened and the sky had turned an inky purple as lights began to switch on everywhere. They exited the car, thanked the driver and he drove off. The two walked through the gates, the freshly laid gravel crunching beneath their shoes as they neared the front entrance. They climbed the massive marble steps and entered the door. There before them stood the woman they had seen exit the carriage just moments before. Lost for words, Joseph managed to struggle out the words, "Good e-evening. I uh.... *ahem* I uh... well. You must be uh..." He had forgotten her name. John leaned over and whispered into his ear. "You must be uh.. Miss Centralia! Yes, uh... how do you do? My n-name is John Farragut, the first minister of Popeleoma del Signe, and this is Joseph Woodliff, the eleventh minister." Realizing he messed up their names, he buried his face in his gloved hands.

John spoke up. "I'm sorry about that. He's really nervous. my name is John and his is Joseph."

Shen-Jin noted the people in the room and one in particular caught his eye. He glided over the floor in a graceful movement towards where the woman was conversing with two other males. His blue eyes sparkled with diamonds, and his flawless complexion and well-built structure made him look ethereal. He met her eyes and let a delightful smile play across his lips even as he made his way from across the room. He bowed low then took her hand. His eyes gradually trailed up her figure to meet her eyes as his soft lips kissed the top of her hand with the touch of butterfly wings. He straightened, and never tore his gaze from hers.

“Miss Centralia,” he said in a smooth voice which promised her kingdoms and then some. He was not nervous; he was never nervous, but he watched the color of her cheeks and grinned pleasantly, careful not to expose his fangs. “It is a great pleasure to be in your company.” He continued, moving his fingertips over her hand as he let her reclaim it. His eyes promised her the world in just their gaze. “My name is Master Shen-Jin Vaughn from The Three United Empires. I have never set foot upon your land before, and found it quite beautiful when I arrived, but I am sure it is far more enchanting at night.”

He looked at the other two men, and bowed his head in a facade of apology for interrupting the stuttering disaster. “I shall leave you to your guests.” He smiled, and took a step away and looked over his shoulder; his hair catching the light in such a way that the strands looked silver. “I do hope to see you again this night, Miss Centralia, for it would grieve me terribly not to see again your captivating visage on such a charming night.”

Katie left her car in style, smling warmly at all those around her, amazed at the spectical before her. Her sparkling white dressed spilled over her like champagne and for the first time in a long while she felt glamorous. She watched as ladies and gentleman from all different nations and regions effortlessly glided up the steps and handled the media with care and stunning poise. Again she smiled at the cameras, but this time spent little time attending to their questions. She had guest by the reception at the airport that the media were not a respecible force in the area.

She tried not to think about anything to much for very long, the last thing she needed now was to become streesed or even worse paranoid. Confidence was the key. She entered a hall full of confident people, most of which were important and successful, like her but on a larger scale. The decarations were glimmering as much as the eyes which were admiring them, and how many eyes! The ball was packed, bursting with prospects for her country, she just had to know how to harness them. She prayed it would not be long before she was introduced to someone by her ever-busy secertary.

Remembering that she had left her attire at the great hall, Centralia ended up getting out at the great hall afterall. She walked slowly amid the lavishly dressed guest, admiring their beauty and poise. They looked so good and natural here....as if many of them had lived here their whole life. So many of them were people persons and it made her smile that were received very well in Suntura.

Entering the brightly lit and elegantly decorated great hall, she beamed with happiness at the sight of shimmering glass, gold work, and sparkling light filling the room.

Seeing two men approach her, she smiled warmly to them, welcoming them to A New Hope. But no sooner did she welcome them then a man entered in, charming and attractive. He kissed her hand, speaking kind words to her, before leaving as quickly as he came. She had barely time to process who he was when the other men began to introduce themselves.

A look of curosity on her face as her eyes followed him until he was lost in the crowd, Centralia returned her attention back to the other two men. After introduction, she perked up, surprised to see them here. "Fellow Reich men, welcome! I'm so glad you could come. I hope you are enjoying your stay so far? Did you receive your gifts at the airport?" she asked kindly, stealing a glance through the crowd for either one of the two men she had previously met.

She felt hands wrap around her from behind though, words whispered in her ear, "You owe me a dance tonight," the deep voice whispered, causing Centralia to burst into a fit of laughter. "Aristes, what are you doing?" she giggled, pulling his hands off her waist, and bringing him around.

"Ministers, this is Aristes, if you had not had the pleasure to meet him yet. He is in charge of security for the evening. Stay on his good side," she said with a wink, nudging Aristes in the process. The mood significantly lightened, as the four chatted and laughed for a moment.

"Excuse me Ministers, but the real reason I came over here was to inform Centralia of a guest she has not had the pleasure to meet yet. Shall I bring her over?" he asked Centralia, his voice quiet and deep, heard well even in the augmenting volume of the great hall.

"Yes! Right away," Centralia joked, slapping Aristes playfully on the shoulder. "Why did you wait so long?"

Nodding his head and rolling his eyes in jest, he turned away, working his way through the crowd. In the mean time, Centralia turned back to the Ministers, smiling at them again. "Silly man. So.....how are you both doing today sirs?"

Placing his hand on the back of Katie's shoulder, an elegantly dressed woman he had only met briefly at the airport, he stood aside her, leaning toward her ear to whisper to her in semi-privacy. "Ms, you are looking lovely today. I would love for you to meet with one of our hostesses," Aristes spoke quietly again.

From across the room Shen-Jin stood against the wall and watched her with a light smile upon his face. A man came over, tried to dance with her, and Shen-Jin laughed openly. He did not break his gaze from her, and his ice blue eyes danced around her image. She was the target for tonight indeed. If that should fail, and he never did, there was always that Katie girl. He smiled at the scenery, and heard the music playing, but frowned as a woman blocked his view from Miss Centralia. He then focused in on the woman in front of him. She had long blond hair and wore a tight black dress. He smiled, fully revealing his fangs to her, and whispered a soft ‘hello’ with a carnivorous smile. He took her hand and led her away from the wall to dance.

“Where’d you get those made?” she said, looking at his fangs as he looked down at her.

“Made?” he laughed, “Oh no my dear, they are quite real,” he continued, and spun her around effortlessly. She giggled. She did not believe him. It made him smile more. His eyes glanced over at Centralia, catching her eyes for a moment before continuing with the woman.

Her secatary was fussing a lot, almost completely cancelling out any elegance Katie had managed to muster by wearing the dress, buying exspensive jewels and planning for months. To undo all this work by simply fussing really was a triumph on Carols behalf, and Katie felt like applauding, and then, firing her.

"Please do stop going on about it, the media were fine. It'll do me good to appear in this way, I'll seem more excessible. I always turn up to these things dressed in a sheet of iron, waddling along and ignoring those I should really address. The media didn't like me that way, I need to project a new image. I don't think-"

"Yes but Katie, we were not consulted. Please do leave it to the professionals. You should..." Carol continued in this vein for a while. Katie simply ignored the women, and sipped some more champagne, nodding pleasantly as the people walked by.

"Carol, I have no more need of your assistance this evening. I will see you later, in my room. Good evening." Katie shook her hand and walked away.

Katie was just settling in once more when she recieved an invitation to go to the hostess.

The man, who's name was Aristes, came over very delicatily and put his hand on her shoulder. She felt the warm hand and stood still whilst he invited her over. She beamed and turned following Aristes over to Centralia. She composed herself, preparing for what could be a horrifically awkward meeting. Just be honest, and witty, and critisise the media and you'll be fine. Not so easily done I'm afraid. When she arrived at the small group of people she waited for the appropraite moment and she gently lifted her hand,

"Good evening. I am Katie Sharle, from Duckquackmuse.." Oh no, I shouldn't have introduced myself that was Aristes's job. Calm down its fine...you seem...independant this way. She smiled regardless.

Erik nodded to the occasional passerby and smiled at a few women who waved and giggled to him. He just nodded and waved back to them. He was actually hoping to see Centralia again. She was beautiful, playful, kind.

He looked about the crowds and walked around noticing a few people coming and going to a certain person, a familiar one at that- Centralia. He smiled and laughed as she did seem quite the popular one. Two men were talking to her, one of them seeming quite embarassed, while another man just walked up to her, kissed her on the hand, and walked away. He chuckled again and watched as to where the man walked off to, before dodging a few more people to get closer to Centralia. He smiled as he got closer and waited as another beautiful women conversed, not wanting to interrupt them. He crossed his arms before him and patiently waited, casting glances around the room, and nodding at the two men nearby.

Joseph and John thanked Centralia and the turned to each other. Joseph spoke up.

"What gifts?"
"Oh, that might explain those two boxes I saw in the back of the car. They didnt look like ours."
"What are we going to give her?"
"you're on your own there buddy. I got her a gift already. You're on your own, i'm going to mingle."

Joseph had turned around for a moment and turned back to find that John had wandered off leaving him by himself. His eyes shifted nervously. This was the first time he had been on his own in another country. He walked towards an open chair at a table and stared at the people talking. His mind clicked. The driver! He could get him to pick up something. He fumbled around his waistcoat for the telephone number and he fingered every pocket for a piece of paper. Instead, he found a PDA in his pocket. He switched it on. Scrawled on it was the words: Paul 86-546-55-845-2. He grabbed his own cellphone and punched in the number. The driver's voice came on through the receiver.

"Minister"
"Paul, yes the minister. Uh, It would be a great favor if you could pick up something for Miss Centralia. John had gotten her something and It slipped my mind."
"What did you have in mind sir?"
"Uh... flowers!"

Joseph looked around. The entire room had flowers everywhere.

"Never mind. Uh, look. You pick something up. Something classy and tasteful. Call my secretary and she'll give you my charge number and you can take care of it from there you understand?"

He slapped the phone shut and stood up a little easier. He decided to finally muster the courage and talk with someone. He eyed out Aristes mingling at the bar and walked towards him.

"You look so wonderful. I love your dress!" she marveled in wonder, staring at how great this woman looked. "Watch out for the guys, you'll be attracting them all," she said with a wink, "and some of them are a handful."

Aristes, in the mean time, excused himself as he set off through the crowd, keeping an eye on all the guests and periodically nodding to a few of them. "Greetings, Earth Angels, please allow me to introduce myself. I am, Erik Markus of the Blastonian Empire." He winked at Centralia, as they had already met each other just a bit ago.

As he raised himself back up, he glanced at the other beautiful woman next to Centralia and smiled widely at her. "Miss Centralia, I do have a few questions to ask before I get started."

"One, where may I place my coat and my gift? Two, is there some sort of gift store nearby? Three," He got closer to Centralia and quietly finished, "may I have this dance?"

Centralia kindly giggled, "Your jacket and gift can be given to any attendent and they will ensure that it be taken to your room. All stores in town are open at all hours during this season and especially so since an international event is being held here. Most are independent family owned business, so the families enjoy spending the winter season working together as a family and inviting customers to dinners and little snacks here and there. As for that dance, I'm sure I can allow you this one, but afterwards, I really should dress into my ball gown," she said with a wink.

"Excuse me," she said to Katie with a smile and followed Erik onto the dance floor.

"I must warn you, I'm not a good dancer," she admitted, as she tried to fight back the burst of laughter surfacing. It had been so long since she had danced; the thought of stepping all over Erik or falling flat on her face amused her ever so.

Joseph stood by Aristes hoping to get a word with him. But he walked off without noticing him. Joseph turned around. He watched as Erik led Centralia onto the massive parquet dance floor as the dance band began playing a dancy arrangement of Sleight Ride. He watched them slowly twirl and attempt to dance. She stepped on his foot once or twice. Joseph felt his left breast vibrate and he realized it was his phone. Pulling it out, he stared at the small front screen. "DRIVER" it said. He flipped it open.

"What do you want?"
"Sir, i'm outside with your gift."
"Good, sit tight, i'll be right with you."

He snapped the phone and shoved it back into his breast pocket. He worked his way among the throngs of people, his sash getting caught on a massive statue and nearly pulling the whole damn thing down, he unsnared himself and walked through the front door. At the base of the steps was the black car he had spent the earlier portion of his day in. The driver emerged from the driver's door and procured a cigar box sized leather box.

"What is it?"
"Your gift sir"
"No, I mean what's inside?"
"Have a look inside"

Joseph grabbed the box and fumbled with the latch and managed to get the box open. His nearly dropped it in shock.

"Di.." He said loudly, but dropped to a hissing whisper.
"A Diamond Necklace?! Are you insane?!"
"Sir..."
"What is my office going to think when they find an expensive diamond necklace charged to the office?! I might lose my job. Look, you have to return this." He shoved the box into the driver's arms.
"Sir, that is entirely unnecessary. I've spoken with your administration office and they approved the expenditure as "Diplomatic". So sir, take this back, and present it to her. Now go sir."

He slammed the door and drove off leaving Joseph standing on the steps holding the box. He walked back in to look for Miss Centralia and he eyed her still dancing with Erik. He seated himself in an armchair by the floor and waited for the song to end. Then, he would surprise her with a gift. For once in his life, he felt confident.

James simply watched the party unfold. He noted that the guests seemed to focus around two bodies, both female, and both fairly attractive. He made a note as the man who had ushered them all here introduced one of the females to the other, and correctly guessed that the introducer was the out of state guest, and the introducee was the diplomat in charge. He would have to make a mental note to speak with her later in the evening, introduce himself and rub elbows, so to speak,

She was swepped off into a dance, leaving the other to mingle with the guests. He would introduce himself to both of them, as well as the other guests, as time went on, figuring out who exactly to talk to and who to avoid, if anyone needed avoidance. However, untill that point, he would enjoy his gin and tonic, the music, and the night in general.

"Every minute you speak of Suntura, I like it even more," Erik chuckled as he led Centralia to the dance floor. He glanced at her garb and chuckled again. "If I may be so bold, You look fabulous in any sort of clothing you wear and you have the beautiful personality to match it."

Along the way, he took his jacket off and gloves and gave it to a waiting attendant, smiling all the way before they reached the middle of the dance floor, his tuxedo elegantly made, even including small tails on the back.

"Not a good dancer? We'll just have to wait and see. However," he chuckled as his right arm wrapped under her left, his hand resting just above her shoulder blade- the best area to help guide her- rather than the waist that he's seen most people attempt. "I will not let you fall as long as you are within my hands," he winked. The music changed to a slow dance, Erik's smile widening.

"Slow dances...my specialty," he laughed. "Don't worry, mistakes are commonly made. Besides, no one will notice as your beauty will blind them to such."

He gave a quick glance around, making sure they had enough room, and noticed a great many people gazing in their direction. They were the stars...well, Centralia, and himself for a few minutes. He straightened out to his full height and prepared to dance.

Shen-Jin saw them dancing, and took the woman’s hand, who he now identified as Katarina. Her face was full of smiles as he lead her outside, and they walked around a bit. So many people were enjoying the party that few stopped to appreciate how beautiful it was outside. By the end of the night, however, he would see how Centralia’s face was illuminated by the sunlight, and just how tender her flesh was. The woman in his arms was plastic, he knew. She was blond, leggy, full busted and dumb as a brick. He sometimes had a taste for them, but only for their taste. It would take a far better woman to suit his tastes. It wasn’t Katarina, and it wasn’t Centralia. He needed more, but they would do for now. In the shadows he bent his head down and kissed her neck slowly. She made a soft gasping sound in her throat and pressed his head to her, as if doing so would bring his lips closer than they already were, which was impossible.

He then bit her. His fangs sunk into her neck, and she let out ragged sighs of pleasure as he started to drink from her. She had alcohol in her blood, and could have easily just as well passed out. When she lost consciousness, he sat her down in a chair, and licked the solitary stray splatter of blood from his lips. She could have just as well passed out. He retracted his fangs and straightened his jacket, and made his way back into the party, where his eyes were locked on Centralia. It was a slow song, and he waited until it was over to approach her, dancing with another man, until her eyes locked upon hers.

“Miss Centralia,” he said, in a honey-sweet voice that had a terribly masculine undertone that coincided with its appealing melody. “If you would be so kind as to give me the honor of a dance, I would be honored. It’s a custom from my nation to give thanks to the host with a dance or gift, and since I have not brought a gift for the invitation was received at last moment, I was hoping that I would get a chance to dance with you.” He bowed lightly, flashing his flawless grin and aquamarine colored eyes. They seemed impossibly like the sky on a summer’s day; the kind you never want to end. He offered his hand.

As Erik danced with Centralia, he kept his eyes on her, only looking away to check his surroundings only twice throughout the song.

"Do you know if I can catch you later, Centralia?" He paused slightly, his cheeks turning a reddish color. "I mean...to give you your gift, of course. And, not that I wish to keep you all night...but perhaps another dance? You are doing quite fine..."

"You must've been lieing to me," Erik added with a chuckle. Even if she tripped up, it would be quite fine. He would have still said she danced well. No one would get hurt and his arms will keep her from falling. Plus, it may just look like an elaborate dance move. It's happened before.

As the song began to finish, he remained silent to cherish its last moments. The final chord was strung and he sighed, holding onto her for a few seconds longer. He put on a smile as he pulled away from her. "Care for-"

Suddenly, a vaguely familiar figure came up nearby, a someone with blue eyes and seemingly kind words. Erik chuckled and looked at Centralia. "Looks like no one wants you to change!"

To be honest, I wish I could keep you all night... Erik thought to himself as he looked the newcomer over, only a small smile playing along his lips. Most likely slight annoyance and jealousy one male would feel to another if attempting to take away something of happiness. Only natural.

But it's alright, I suppose... It will give me time to get a gift and perhaps dance and speak with the other woman whom Centralia was speaking to earlier. Plus, it is, afterall, Centralia's life and I shall do nothing to prevent her from making decisions.

OOC:
Sorry the lengthy posting delay, had to go home for the holidays. Floridia.....lovely....

IC:
Enjoying the presence of Erik, Centralia danced slowly, stepping on his toes tiime to time. Each time, she flushed red with color and hastily apologized until it became too custom that she merely laughed and said, "told you so."

She would hold Erik to his offer of a second dance. She felt comfortable in his presence; felt as if nothing else mattered besides them enjoying that very moment they were experiencing. She knew this feeling was to be appreciated; knew that few people came into your life who made you feel that way. She decided she would embrace that, perhaps this party would not be the only time they would have the chance to see one another.

After the dance, her smiled beamed at Erik, the blood pumping through her body, turning her gold tinted skin with a flush of light pink. Her eyes shone as they stared into his and as he was about to ask her something, her attention was diverted to the other man she had met earlier.

His stunning blue eyes entrapped her momentarily, sucking her into them. She blinked and shook her head as he spoke to her. "Ah....sure," she responded, her smile returning to her face. "But afterwards, I really must get changed," she said with a wink.

As she followed Shen-Jin, she looked back to Erik, gave him a quick wink, before returning her attention toward that man with those blue eyes. She looked into those blue eyes again, once again being pulled into them. "Your eyes," she said softly, "they are so blue."

“I will take that as a compliment,” he said effortlessly, “Miss Centralia.” He smiled, and led her in her arms as if they were walking on air. He was youthful; not past twenty eight, and his hair was not quite that of an old man. It was silver and very healthy, like that was his natural color. It almost looked a light blue in the right light. It must look wonderful under moonlight. His touch was soft, and he led her in the music with his eyes. Just relax… his voice trailed over her shoulders as they lowered and she became more at ease. It seemed that within his arms, she could not make a mistake, not move the wrong way, nor falter. He could feel the blood pumping through her body, and he laughed lightly for this reason, but gave a different one. “You are a wonderful dancer. You glide across the floor as if you weren’t even to touch it.” It was [i]he[i] who glided, and he who led. As long as she was relaxed with him, they could do anything. The music in combination with his words soothed over her entire body.

Look around just people, can you hear their voice. Find the one who’ll guide you to the limits of your choice…He smiled at the lyrics to the song. “O fortuna velut luna,” he said in a whisper, trickling across her ear. His lips did not touch her ear, but his words did, and it was enough. “Oh fortune, like the moon. I was quite fortunate to meet you this night, Miss Centralia.”

Centralia glided with Shen-Jin, feeling the movement of the music manifested in their bodies. She always wanted to be an elegant woman, dancing as graceful as a swan, with that lovely smile of her's. Dancing though, that she was never good at. But these men she danced with, they made her appear to not look as badly as she could have on the dance floor.

The dance continued, the music playing on, soft, slowly, carrying her into a world only her mind could have imagined. She never before imagined that one day, she would be a hostess of one of the largest successful parties held within The Reich, dancing with these wonderful men, and feeling happier then she could have ever dreamed. Her smile beamed on her face, as the song came to close, the soft tunes slowly being played. As the song finished, she let her smile beam once more before thanking Shen-Jin for such a wonderful dance.

Becoming conscious that she was still underdressed for the occassion, she lowered her head with a quick blush of color filling her cheeks. "I'm sorry but I really must go and change. I feel so out of place among all you lavishly dressed men and woman." But she raised her head with a slight giggle, "If you get bored while I'm gone, you can steal a dance from Aristes. Tell him I sent you," she said with a playful wink, still trapped by the blue of his eyes.

“Promise me another dance tonight, Centralia,” he called after her with a charming voice. He moved towards her before she slipped away, and leant down to her. “You don’t need to change a thing to outdo any of the women in this room, Miss Centralia.” He gave her a kind smile, desperately trying not to let his eyes fall below hers towards her neckline. Thank god, he succeeded. He turned from her gracefully, and a smile crossed his face, exposing his elegant fangs that were not noticeable upon first glance, but after further inspection could readily be seen. He meandered throughout the crowd remembering the sound of her heartbeat in his head. Ah, such a fine night…

Eric watched the two for a few seconds and smiled at the wink he recieved from Centralia and nodded in return before spinning around on one shoe and walking off the dance floor to the servant with his jacket and gift, each step he mentally cursed.

"Thank you, kind sir," Erik said as he took his jacket with a small bow and gave the man a tip. "If you don't mind, I shall return with my jacket in a few minutes." He bounced to a jog, before catching himself off balance and doing a strange bounce step. "Also, please keep an eye on Centralia," he pointed her out to the servant. "When I come back, please tell me if she is still in the ballroom or went off to change."

With another glance at the new man and Centralia, he sprinted off outside of the building. I don't want to miss Centralia leaving. Perhaps I can get a gift for her before the song finishes...I hope it's a long song. He chuckled as he hailed a taxi and jumped in. "To the nearest...uh...gift shop of some sort," he said, mentally kicking himself for not knowing where to find the gift he was thinking of.

None the less, the driver seemed to know where he was going and speedily took him to a small gift shop, where he told the driver to hold and ran inside. The aisles were small so he had to keep himself from darting around the place like a small child, however as soon as he walked in, he was greeted with a chorus of "Hello!" He nodded in return and gave his own hello with a bright smile on his face.

"I'm sorry kind people, but I am in a bit of a hurry...I am searching for a certain item...a snow globe if you will?"

Who Erik assumed was the head of the family smiled and nodded. "They're over there, sir," he said warmly, pointing to a shelf behind Erik.

"Many thanks," Erik replied gratefully as he walked past a few wind chimes, hats, scarfs, and little stuffed animals before he got to the shelf of beautiful snow globes.

He looked at a few, some having little toy soldiers, some of stuffed animals. He took perhaps thirty seconds to skim through all of them, before picking two out of the bunch. One was of children throwing snowballs with each other.

The other was the front of the Great Hall. In front of the Great Hall were a few couples, elegantly dressed, in waltz position. Erik looked at the smiling shop keeper and pointed to it. "May I hold it?" he asked quietly. He recieved a nod in response and gently took the globe off the shelf.

It's beautiful... Erik thought as he examed the couple closest to the Great Hall. He laughed as he thought they looked like him and Centralia.

"It plays music too," The ever-smiling shopkeeper said happily as he walked over and took it, winding up a small handle on the bottom.

The dancers began to spin and turn to the three beat tempo. The music was a beautifully romantic waltzes that reminded Erik of the "Happily Ever After" stories where the prince and princess were married.

"We had it especially made for the ball. I presume that is where you came from?"

Erik nodded and laughed. "I did, and I was dancing with the most beautiful lady I have ever seen. She gave me a tour of Suntura and a gift, however I did not bring one to her."

"Centralia? She is a darling," the old shop keeper smiled and nodded. "You are lucky. Do you wish to get this for her?"

Erik looked at the other snow globe one last time before nodding. "Yes, please."

The man smiled and shuffled to the cash register. "I am guessing you want it wrapped?"

"Please, sir," Erik said patiently, subtly glancing at his watch. He noticed a few bouquets of flowers and picked up one of many colors, purple, white, red, yellow, and even a beautiful orange one. He sniffed it, getting a delightful festival of smells. He added it to the counter.

The shop keeper let his wife wrap the gift, saying she was the better wrapper, while a teenage daughter came out and smiled at Erik, batting her eye lashes. "Would you like something to eat?" she asked sweetly.

Erik smiled and shook his head. "No thank you," he replied.

"How is it, at the ball?" the girl asked excitedly.

"It is beautiful, like a fairy tale. Everyone having a great time, the women looking so elegant as they cross the ball room floor, the men waiting impatiently in their tuxedos. The decorations fit the occasion, the lights give off a warm shimmer upon the dancers. It is like a dream."

The girl sat on a nearby stool, entranced with Erik's description. When he finished she looked up at her parents and sighed. "I wish I could be there..."

Erik chuckled and looked at his now wrapped present. "There is always next year, right?" he asked. He recieved a slightly depressed face in return. He frowned and scratched his chin. "Don't worry, I have faith that Suntura will be a prime candidate for the Ball for many years to come."

He smiled as he paid a large sum of money for the present and the gift and when the shopkeeper tried to give him change, Erik shook his head. "Keep it," he said with a wink and a small glance in the teenage daughter's direction. "Happy Holidays," he smiled as he ran out of the shop and into the waiting car.

"Let's go!" He laughed as he waved back to the waving family. The driver smiled as he spun the vehicle around and went at a fast pace back to the Great Hall. "Miss Centralia was right...everyone acts as a family...well, as far as that shop went." The driver nodded as he pulled to a stop.

Erik quickly paid the man and gave a thanks as he rushed in doors, flowers and gift in hand. On his way in, however, he noticed someone passed out on a chair- a beautiful blonde haired woman. He debated waking her up, but decided he will tell the servant instead. He had someone to catch...

“Oh my god,” she whispered, breathless as she checked the young blonde’s pulse. The servant was on her first assignment, in charge of decorations. She had been nervous enough for her first job. She figured the woman was passed out. She had been drinking a lot. She took her pulse, but could not locate it. She tried the wrist, then her neck. She felt a cold wetness upon her fingers, and removed her hand to see blood. She screamed.

The scream echoed in one of the guard’s heads. It was what they had all feared. Immediately thinking that they were about to be attacked, the guard called Aristes in a panicked voice. "Situation complicated," was all the guard could say as she ran to the screaming woman kneeling before an unconscious blood woman. The lavishly dressed woman stooped before them, pressing a concealed headset beneath her long flowing hair to her ear. No response had come through and she began to worry that Aristes would be unreachable.

Inside the party, Aristes heard the panicked voice ring in his head. Trying to maintain a cool and calm attitude, he simply searched the crowd once and turned. If anyone had noticed, it would have appeared that he was just stepping out briefly. Inside his head though, hidden worries filled his head. What if the war came to Suntura? What if they were under attack? What if that crazy little girl had decided to attack their nation?

Reaching the scene, which had surprisingly been concealed very well with a carriage that was parked before it, Aristes knelt beside them. "What happened?" he asked coolly, trying to remain professional as possible under the circumstances.

"I don't know. This woman found her dead," the guard spoke in hushed whispers. "She's not talking much, but by the looks of this strange wound on her neck, it appears as if she has been bitten by something....like a snake or something," the woman tried to put together the pieces.

Aristes took a deep breath and turned the dead woman's head slowly, sure enough, two smiliar fang marks were on her neck. It had appeared that she really was bitten by a snake of some sort, but snakes in Suntura in the middle of winter were absurd. He stood up and ran his hand through his short hair before taking another deep breath. "Alright, we need to get her out of here. I don't want this reaching the media or they'll eat us alive. Damn it, they were checked," Aristes cursed, realizing that the second this hit the publics knowledge he and his nation were at ruin and all fingers would be pointed at him.

Straightening his uniform and helping them carry the dead woman into the carriage, he instructed the guard who found them to stay with her as they rushed her to the hospital. It was not until a few moments after they were gone from eyesight, did Centralia walk out of the great hall to get changed when she noticed Aristes standing a bit away from the hall looking distressed. Walking over, Centralia pulled him into a hug, holding him for a moment before pulling away and looking him in the eyes.

"What's wrong," she asked softly, concern in her eyes.

Aristes tried to appreciate that moment, but he could not feel the warmth of Centralia's heart in his moment of fear. He looked up slowly, meeting her eyes. He could not lie to her, not to Centralia. "Someone is dead. I don't know exactly what happened, but she was found dead just over there. This is going to destroy us," he spoke his worst fear to her, feeling instantly overwhelmed by their situation.

"Sweetie," Centralia responded, placing a soft hand on his cold cheek. "You did everything you could to protect everyone. One person dying.....that can hardly be placed to blame on you. You did your best to ensure that the guests’ privacy was respected and that their lives were also protected. Whatever happened here, I'm sure it was beyond your control. If anyone is to blame, it isn't going to be you; it's going to be the person who did this. Cheer up honey, we need you back inside at your best," she smiled at him, trying to bring up his defeated spirit.

It took him a moment to let Centralia's words sink in, but when they did, he raised his head and smiled, giving her a small kiss to thank her for her kindness.

"I'm not even going to attempt to get dressed tonight," she said with a laugh as she looped her arm around him and pulled him inside.

Before reaching the doors, Aristes pulled her close, "Centralia, be cautious tonight. Whoever did this is probably still out there. I really don't want to lose you," he sheepishly spoke, adverting his eyes from her gaze quickly.

"Oh sweetie, you know me, I'll be fine," she said with a wink, pulling him inside the doors into the instant life and energy of the party. "Now....when do I get that dance," she asked, grabbing ahold of Aristes.

"As soon as you learn how to dance," he poked back at her, swiftly carrying her into a waltz around the room.
