PINA (Public International News Ariddia) is an Ariddian-based international channel broadcasting round-the-clock news around the world. It broadcasts freely to any nation that wishes to receive its programmes.

PINA aims at offering constant news updates to its viewers, along with in-depth analyses of current events and issues. It also aims at presenting and explaining an "Ariddian perspective" on international events.

It emphasises cultural and social issues, as well as environmental ones, and brings events from "small" nations to the attention of the world, instead of focusing only on "major" events.

More information on PINA is available here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Public_International_News_Ariddia). If you would like PINA to broadcast in your nation, you can add your nation here (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Public_International_News_Ariddia#Television).

OOC: I came up with PINA quite a while ago, but I've now thoroughly expanded the NSwiki article. In great part I was inspired by the RL launching of France 24 (http://www.france24.com/), and it occured to me that we rarely hear in NS about international news channels. Of course, PINA's means and funds are far more limited than those of the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera or France 24 in RL, Ariddia being a "poor", under-developed country...

Currently, we have 91 channels on the service, and PINA will take channel 80 as Bostopia's first out-of-region news service broadcast into the country.

PINA is considering adapting its broadcasts to each nation's requirements, and providing 100% English programmes to most nations (or 100% French if requested), but for now PINA's means are limited.

In any case, PINA welcomes Oliverry's interest, and will be happy to provide round-the-clock news broadcasts to the people of Oliverry.

Official Announcement by the Ministry for Culture for the Serene Democratic People’s Fiefdom:

The Communist Party of Otiacicoh, in its role as the legitimate vanguard of the proletariat, has attempted to build a true socialist state in which the aspirations of the working classes could be fulfilled and a new modus operandi of human interaction in which selfishness, vanity and the bourgeoisie fetish with money were eliminated.
To that end, therefore, previous generations of Party Leadership concluded that, in the interests of the preservation of the Socialist Fiefdom, strict controls upon the media should be enacted. This included the such acts as censorship, propaganda and the purposeful attempt to block foreign broadcasting.
The current leadership of the Party, however, believes that the citizenry it serves cannot be treated as children indefinitely. If the ideology of the Party and the Government of the Fiefdom cannot be critically compared to and challenged by alternative ideas, then the Party has succeeded in creating a hermetically sealed populous that is several fathoms away from the notion of a socialist peoples that our illustrious founders intended.
To that end, therefore, the Party is pleased to invite the P.I.N.A. to broadcast in the Fiefdom that will hopefully further internationalise the thinking of the workers and peasants of the Fiefdom and provide matieral for critical discussion and analysis.

PINA broadcasts to Edward City, but it's possible to it broadcast to Edward City in Spanish?

PINA's services in Spanish are currently limited. PINA's website has a Spanish version (pina.ari/es), which contains both written articles and video reports in Spanish, but that is a far more limited version than the French and English equivalents. The television channel itself does not currently broadcast in Spanish.

However, we are of course concerned to provide the best possible news services to our viewers. Those few of our programmes which are translated into Spanish or subtitled could be broadcast on television in Edward City, instead of simply being made available on the website.

The People's Republic of Leninia-Trotskya is eager to recieve international news to suppliment its own domestic news channels. Is it possible for PINA to transmit to Leninia-Trotskya?

PINA launches service for deaf viewers

PINA broadcasts in French already come with subtitles in English and Wymgani (and vice-versa), but now a new feature has been added to the international news channel. Access to the news will be facilitated for deaf viewers, thanks to an interpreter relaying the news in Ariddian French Sign Language (LSFA), virtually identical to the international French Sign Language.

PINA hopes to provide this service in English in the near future, at least on its website video broadcasts.

That would be very kind. PINA currently has basic Arabic services on its website, but does not yet broadcast on television in Arabic, and has nothing in these other languages. We would be delighted to reach a wider audience by expanding our services in foreign languages.

If JGN is ever in need of French translation services, PINA would be happy to provide some.

We can also provide advice to tune PINA broadcasts for sensitive religious communities.

Sadly, at present PINA does not provide radio programmes.

However, since PINA's programmes are exclusively news or news-related, it may be conceivable to broadcast them to Yulka in audio-only form if you wish.

N.A.C: A New Asiria Communications Report

New Asirias Communications officer, Brad Hanz, declared today that P.I.N.A would become the national broadcaster for New Asiria by the end of the year.
P.I.N.A went head to head with the current national broadcaster New Asiria Communications (N.A.C) for the official post but was beaten by P.I.N.A yesterday afternoon.
New Asiria has a television penetration of about 70% and audio of 98% with internet connection still lagging behind with a mere 21% at the back end of last year. It is hoped that with P.I.N.A taking over communications for the state that both television and internet penetration will be enhanced and Brad Hanz has stated in his yearly report that he attmepts to increase both to 80% by the end of his term, costing some 100 million Ria (900 million dollars or 456 G.B.P). Brad Hanz was quoted as saying 'N.A.C has now supported New Asirias communications for 25 years and have allowed for our nation to become almost backward in communication being one of the last to have broadband and national internet access. It was the combined decision of all the High Councillors to allow for a new more experienced and internationally advanced company take over our communitcations.'

Candelaria And Marquez
21-09-2007, 17:34
To Whom It May Concern:

The Republic of Candelaria And Marquez would be keen to receive PINA broadcasts, and delighted to provide space for a regional office in Bove's (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Bove) Media City, if so required.

However, all national television networks in C&M are constitutionally obliged to provide services in both English and Spanish, something which at this stage would clearly represent a problem. I do believe however that the Independent Media Authority would accept the constant provision of subtitles, and a similar set-up to that enjoyed in Edward City.

I eagerly await confirmation of this arrangement.

Yours truly,

Kovac Mahmoud, MotH
Minister for Culture, Media and Sport
