Toronto, Ontario, Former Canadian Federation.
General Marcus Koudraiutsev stood in the atrium of Toronto's City Hall with a wide smile on his face waving to the cameras as he arranged his papers and toggled the mircophone's switch to on, after a few minutes he spoke to the delegation of reporters and foreign press secretaries as well as the thousands of Canadian citizens outside the building. "Ladies and Gentlemen of Canada, it is with mixed feelings on this subject that we announce that we are hereby annexing the Canadian Federation into the Californian Sovereign Democratic Socialist Federation, it is with great sadness that we sign this treaty with the provisional governor of this nation to finalize the annexation of this nation.

For those millions of Canadians who were caught up in this coup, the necessary representatives of the former Canadian government will issue an apology and will begin to mend the situation throughout the former provinces that have now become Californian States. Again, it is with great pride and sadness that we welcome you all to the Californian Sovereign Democratic Socialist Federation. Thank You"

Gen. Koudriautsev walked away from the podium as he did so, his cellular phone went off, he picked it up and answered "Hello... Yes? Ahh, Miss President. Yes, the treaty has been signed and the Canadians belong to California now. Everything's been finalized. I'll be leaving shortly at Toronto International back home. Have your people in Parliament start setting up Senators and Delegates as soon as you can. Alright, Goodbye." He hung up and walked to his limoussine. The limoussine sped off to Toronto Int'l Airport and he was gone within the hour.

(OOC, this was okayed through The Gulf States as he is no longer roleplaying in NationStates — albeit the nation of Canada — any longer. He authorized the annexation personally over AIM.)

It's not an "Earth".

Well, more specifically, I guess you could call this "Earth I", since this was the sort of thing that spawned all those multiple Earths in II.

Yes, Danaan. I prefer to call it Earth Prime, but the technical name is still of course Earth I. I just prefer to give it a name that serves as a reminder that this 'Earth' was the first. Hence the use of 'Prime' (primus = first).

ooc: The 'first' Earth supposedly, of many that are considered much the same - there's a funny fractal understanding of reality that allows many to get by without this silly Earth $number business. Some people recognize real life nation 'annexations', some don't, some accept a combination of both methods. No one has to recognize any of it if they so choose, and putting a number or title to it does not lend it any more legitimacy than any other player's perception of how Earth is in NS, just for reference.

'Mr President...' A knock on the door, it was 3am in New York City when the word of what was first going on in Canada began to trickle in. You just dont annex a large swath of land without moving military units in..and spy satellites had a nose for picking those up. Then the announcement earlier in the day in Toronto hadnt sent up enough red flags for the Federal Republic to be overly concerned..but now as the news snaked its way up the chain of command and finally reached the Chief of Staffs ears a sense of urgency was given.

'Mr President...' A second call and this time a groan was let loose from under the warm blankets. A head lifting up almost as if the dead was rising from the feather pillow and plush soft bed top. 'Sorry to disturb you, several pieces of information have just passed over my desk and I feel that you need to have a look at them before anymore time is lost..'

President Santos in all his grand wisdom had heard this many a time in his long lifespan..and thusly he felt justified when then his right hand raised above the blanket into the night of the room, with his middle finger extended. His head dropping back down on the pillow soon followed by the arm, and another groan but this time it was words that followed and not silence. 'Close the fucking door and wait till morning.'

The Chief of Staff a man by the name of Philip Adler cleared his throat louder and decided now was the best time to say it, if for no other reason than he would spend at least an hour trying to reason with the President to wake up of his own accord. "The communists in California have launched an invasion in Canada...the government up there finally threw out the Gulf States and now they're dealing with the CalComs. We've now got them on our northern borders..there is no more bufferzone Mr President...'

That was all it really took for the President's eyes to open, they didnt shoot open, he wasnt some cartoon that was about to jump on the bed, but he was awake now and listening to every word. It was a nightmare situation, not something they had expected to happen. The buffer between New York and New Jersey and the California Socialist Republic meant they didnt have to worry about any military threats. This was a different story this meant that they now had an anti-thesis to their way of life on their northern borders. This was a threat to the very existance of the Federal Republic, and it would only take another twenty minutes before President Santos was in his robes and walking down the hallway to the command center located beneath Gracie Mansion...once home to mayors of New York City, it served as the President's residence since the formation of the Republic.

'Okay folks, what the options, lets not get into the extremes...' President Santos took a seat and was greeted with a mug of coffee not to five seconds after his statement, several options were laid before him on a piece of paper and then people began to speak up...what was said in the meeting isnt important is what came out of it. After two hours of discussion and heated debate, there was a collective agreement. A choice was made and even though some didnt like it..it was too lean, it was too tough...it was the choice they could live with in the short run. And thus as day broke in, the Press Secretary made the announcement to the world.

'This message has been given to me by the President of the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey, and has been signed by the key members of the Federal Senate, the House, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. To the Socialist government of California and Alaska, you are given the choice, to allow the Canadians free rule, to once again have them act as a buffer between our two people's or face the might of the Federal Military. We view your expansion as an immient danger to our way of life, and this is something we will no longer tolerate. Therefore you have twenty fours to withdraw any forces you have in the newly annexed areas, and allow these areas self rule, or a state of war will exist between the Federal Republic and the Socialist Republic of California and Alaska.'

The message was given an hour after the military had been placed on alert. A rapid mobilization of the nation was underway. Aircraft were put in the air in greater numbers as CAPs were flown in three times the amount they normally were. Ships were put to sea, amphibious landing craft packed with Marines proceeded northward out of berths and Naval Bases in New York City, Boston, and Groton. The Federal Republic was more than ready for the regretable course of actions it was about to take and President Santos was more than ready to activate War Plan Orange. The doomsday scenario of the Republic. The main reason the President didnt give the message himself was because he was whisked away to an undisclosed location, a bunker under ruin, under earth, under granite..the government would continue even if above ground the hellish war raged. Of course all that was needed was an answer.

The Warprince was not amused. The Warprince was never amused. His piercing quicksilver eyes looked over Brother-Colonel Erich Killkill of the Death Angels drop reigment, who was standing at parade rest in his flat gray and black armor, the camo-attachment points stuck out like some sort of archaic studs on the armor plates.

"Well, Erich...it looks like you're probably going to get your chance. Gather up a task force and get yourself to Sol. Blood and Glory..."

The countersalute was made, and the grinning Colonel exitted the Warprince's solar to make ready his warmachine.

In the meanwhile, a statement was issued by the office of the Warprince.

'In the name of the High Council of Revenia, if the government of Socialist California does not acceed to the demands of our friends in New York and Jersey, the Star Supremacy of Revenia is prepared to provide military aid to the Federal Republic, in accordance with our treaties and pacts."

Or something to that effect, just more...verbose.

Executive Estate. Ranchos Palos Verdes, Los Angeles SAR — CSDSF.

President Jourgensen getting behind the wheel of her Maserati Angelus when her phone rang, picking it up she heard the heavily Slavic accented voice of Gen. Marcus Koudriautsev on the other line "The Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey has sent us an ultimatum... they want us to cede the Canadian land they claim we've "invaded" so that a balance of power can exist between our two nations... or there would be 'grave consequences'" Jennifer punched the steering wheel with her clenched fist causing the horn to beep for a second, all Gen. Koudriautsev could hear on the other end of the line was a very loud "FUCK!!" even though she had put her phone down on the passenger seat momentarily for this outburst. Picking up the phone again she asked the situation "Have they moved any forces yet?"
Gen. Koudriautsev paused "To be honest, we've been watching them with our satellites, and they've been mobilizing a great number of forces — ships, troops, armored divisions — you name it they've been getting it ready for the last six or seven hours. Ever since our boys in the Space Defense Forces upgraded our Valkyrie satellites not more than three years ago, we've got real-time orbital surveillance to ensure that the Americans — or anyone else for that matter — won't try anything stupid on us... we have been able to catch any large troop or armor movements and have our military ready before they even find out we're on to them. These poor bastards probably don't even know that we've been watching them mobilize their military around now for going on seven hours and already have an idea of what we're up against."

Jennifer sighed in relief "It's a good goddamned thing Alexa continued funding for those damned satellites, they cost us a helluva chunk of cash but I can see they've been worth every penny." Gen. Koudriautsev smiled "That they have..." Jennifer turned the key to her car's ignition and slipped out of her driveway and drove towards downtown Greater Los Angeles. While on her way there she curiously inquired about the situation in Cuba. Gen. Koudriautsev chuckled "Well... we've got a fuck ton of units sitting in the Caribbean right now shelling the hell out of Havana, I am sure we could dispatch a carrier group or two and a coupla dreadnaughts if anything happens between us and New York & New Jersey."

Jennifer felt as if a gigantic weight had been put upon her shoulders, after arriving at Executive Tower 1 of the Alexa S. Vassaretti Government Plaza she rode the express elevator to her suite on the 260th floor of the building, changed into something more fitting of a politician that was about to deliver a public statement to the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey. After calling together her closest advisors and generals to get a list of possible options in the event a conflict should break out between California and New York & New Jersey she left them to their business and left for the General Assembly room where a crowd of foreign press secretaries, reporters, camera crews and several newspaper journalists bustled with activity, flashbulbs glaring and microphones being jabbed at her as she made her way to the podium, after raising her hands signalling for the crowd to be silent she arched the microphone stand so that it was just a few inches from her chin "It seems that we have finally touched chords with the leadership of one of the nations we share this continent with. However, regardless that we have finally been able to get some kind of communication from someone else on this continent — as we have heard nothing but silence from the United States, I would like to deliver this message to the President of the Federal Republic of New York and Jersey. We are not Communists, the fact that you would dare insult our nation by making that assumption is merely assinine. California is a sovereign democratic republic, and will not tolerate any one nation attempting to strongarm us with an ultimatum. Now wether or not you're willing to sit and talk we can negotiate through this problem, or if you want to drop the gauntlet and rush headlong into what will become a protracted military engagement we can throw down our gauntlet and play." She smiled as racuous applause filled the room, as she walked off the stage she sighted Gen. Koudriautsev with the serious look on his face, she knew his expression bode her no good news. To inquire on the situation she asked "Anything new out of New York & New Jersey?" He exhaled "We have heard nothing out of President Santos, we've done our best to try and get the Canadians to re-take control of their government. All of the officials we have hand picked to head a provisional government have told me that if we were to cede them tomorrow that Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia would pursue independence from Canada, they have no idea how to put a handle on this situation right now and are just leaving it to us to try and remedy the situation. And with these a—holes trying to paint this as some expansionist aggression pisses me off, these guys personally asked us to take them in, however I see we are left with no course that wouldn't plunge us into a war than to cede the Canadian territory we've annexed as a Californian Protectorate while keeping what land we've paid for in purchases from TGS (Alberta, Yukon, British Columbia, Labrador)" Jennifer sighed "I agree, get everything together, I'll sign the papers when they arrive on my desk"

Erich stood up on the primary dais with Admiral Michaels, a pointer in his hand and the battle-plan filling the large holotank before him.

"Ladies and Gentleman, as we know, it has come time to fulfil our ancient pact with our friends in the Federal Republic of New York and Jersey. As you can see, our battle plans are currently largely unchanged from the original plan. The Fleet will move in, Strike Fighters will clear the orbits of hostile weapons platforms, then we will commence precision kinetic strikes on point targets -- namely defense stations. After we have cleared threats, the Angel Regiments will deploy to clear a DZ, then the Fleet GFG will begin landing elements. This will be done in support of our allies in New York and Jersey. The updated battle plans have been relayed to your implant banks, all questions should be directed to Admiral Michaels and Myself. Good day."

Montreal, Quebec, Former Canadian Federation.
Former President Sandra M. Devnostraeva was enjoying her time in Montreal on vacation when the news of the decision from New York and New Jersey arrived, not taking any time she rushed to her hotel room and packed all of her belongings and hopped a direct flight into New York City. As the plane was taxiing down the runway she dialed the Californian Consulate in New York City to phone President Santos' leadership to resolve this issue diplomatically before anything spilled out of control. As soon as someone from the Californian Consulate answered she was already in 'business mode' "Helo, I am Sandra M. Devnostraeva, Chief Californian Secretary of State. It appears we have a very bad foreign relations crisis on our hands and I would like to speak directly with President Santos to rectify this situation as amicably as possible." She waited for what seemed like an eternity before the Secretary from the Californian Consulate answered "They will be calling you within the day to arrange a meeting, Goodbye." and the line went dead. Closing her phone and depositing it back into her purse she asked the flight attendant to get her a bottle of Southern Comfort Black Label, 100 Proof Louisiana Bourbon some limes and an ever flowing supply of Coca~Cola, she sat back as she finished making her first drink... a little strong at first but taking larger gulps, she smiled knowing the alcohol was going to soothe her through this flight, as she simply loathed flying — especially into the airspace of New York & New Jersey... a relationship with which has been shakily friendly at times and extremely hostile at others. She sighed wondering if they remembered signing a pact that kept diplomatic relations open between California and New York & Jersey. That didn't matter now, at an altitude of 27,000 feet and enough alcohol to take her edge off of flying she felt fine.

Official Announcement of the United States of Allanea

Currently, our navy is in a very low state of readiness, however we are able to deploy a single battlegroup to defend our Californian allies. The battlegroup will be en route in X hours. In the meanwhile, we offer to host a peace talk between the warring parties in Allanea, as we have good relations with the Californians and the Revenians, and seek to establish such with the New Jerseyans.

Helios Military Command Bunker,Beneath the East River:

'If the Allaneans want to lose their Martian territory they will continue along this course of action...' was the response of General Agnew to the recent report of the forever nosey Allaneans want to defend California and Alaska. The discussion had quickly transitioned from whether or not to hold diplomatic talks with California and Alaska to updating War Plan Orange to include quick and decisive strikes against Allanean targets across the solar system. Admiral Whitebrook echoed similar sentiments when he said

'Maybe we should begin with a pre-emptive strike now on the Martian targets, the Allaneans arent loved by any nation on Mars...we'd be doing the planet another favor.' The room was silent for several moments as serious contemplation was given to the course of action. It was tempting to many, the Federal Republic was already viewed in a good light on Mars...the ongoing terraforming project, the constant assistance in defense of the planet...the dealing with planet wide troublemakers...if the accountants were keeping a bill of services then Mars owed Santos bigtime. Favors could be called on to enact a blockade of Allanean property if things really got out of hand and then the strike. It was tempting and with a pick up of the phone War Plan Orange slowly began to grind into motion.

A few minutes would go by before Santos was done on the phone and looking up at his military command staff once more. 'Okay gentlemen and ladies, the Second and Third Fleets are going to manuver themselves into a strike position, we'll give them an offical reply to stay far away from this situation if they know whats best for them. I want a message sent to our consulate in Los Angeles. Have them start shredding and burning the documents. The chimneys will be busy tonight...'

Of course President Santos knew of his ex-counterparts visit to NYC. They had requested a direct meeting on short notice with the country on a high level of alert. This was the first time the nation was at the brink of war on the Earth's surface in decades. The troops of the Federal Republic however were not inexperienced...rotated to combat zones elsewhere the average active division had seen at least 100 days of combat in a warzone with even the most green of active divisions having spent at least 15 days in a combat situation. In the end, direct face to face talks werent going to happen. No, Devnostraeva was going to get the Minister of Foreign Relations D'Ambrosia instead. When her flight landed, the government provided for her transport directly to the Federal Capitol Building just south of Central Park. She wouldnt be given anytime to rest. The situation itself could not wait for her to sober up.

In the meantime an offical statement was released by the Press Secretary,

'The Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey will not take external offers of assistance toward the otherside as a neutral ground to promote peacetalks. If the Californian Alaskan Republic wishes to avoid a war, then direct talks are what will avoid a bloody confrontation. We will not standdown until the western warmongers in Los Angeles withdraw from our northern borders...

Rhetoric, thick and heavy in the air. Served as much to galvinize the local population as send a message that the Federal Republic was willing to hold discussions but had a set agenda it was going to try and reach. While talks were going on however, the call had yet to be given to military outposts to standdown and President Santos was plotting from the Helios Bunker still waiting for how talks would play out between his man in Foreign Affairs and the former President.

General Assembly Room, Executive Tower 1. Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles SAR — DCFR.
Californian President Jennifer Jourgensen stepped to the podium in the assembly area inside Executive Tower staring straight at the cameras she icily spoke "The Democratic Californian Federated Republic doesn't wish for this situation to escalate into a full-scale war. If you would simply come to the table and negotiate, rather than leaving a full-scale protracted conflict the only choice to be made." She stepped aside allowing the map on the back wall to fill the screen. "You want a secure northern border... and a secure northern border you will have. As of Midnight August 24, 2261 the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island are ceded from the D.C.F.R. to be reformed as the Canadian Federation protected by the armed forces of the Democratic Californian Federated Republic. All other Californian military forces will withdraw from Canadian soil upon midnight tonight as well, the only forces left behind will be those guarding the Californian Consulates in Toronto and Montreal, and left there only for the purposes of guarding those consulates. President De Los Santos, of the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey, I hope this is what you've wanted." And the camera faded to black.

Helios Command Bunker, Underneath the East River:

'They're kidding right?' The voice of one bewildered General reflected the sentiments of the other senior staff members. President Santos contemplated the reply though out of polite measure. Federal Forces were still on alert and civil defense drills were becoming a common occurance and the media had stepped up its coverage with some analysts calling negotiations with the Californians a mistake. As the generals spoke amongst themselves and Santos listened he took a few notes, several questions which he meant to ask but would have to hold off for the future.

'Okay folks, you all know the kind of reply I'd give to them, and you all know how bad that would inflame the situation...We're not the Allaneans and we're not the Californians. We dont resort to vulgarities, or bolsterous threats on public TV. Let the Foreign Secretary pass the word along. For the moment though, set the clock at five to midnight. The communists are pushing their luck and the clock is running low...' The clock was metaphorically speaking the likelyhood of all out war breaking out which could possibly affect the Federal Republic's homeland. It was a gauge to military commanders just how bad the situations were getting. 1 o'clock was the best possible situation while the clock being so close to midnight meant almost certain war.

At military bases across the nation, things would go from hectic to calm. Soldiers were at the ready and there was only so much preperation could be made.Sooner or later things would begin to calm down as the new state of alert was made a fact of life. Families were taken off of major military installations and housed in hotels, if war was to be declared civilians needed to be out of the way of the likely retalitory targets. Meanwhile the final touches were placed on War Plan Orange, the military ataches to the Revenian military forces were kept well informed over the situation and maps were laid out for possible targets. Meanwhile diplomacy would go on back in New York City.

1 Republic Plaza , Central Park South:

'The way the government sees it Ms. Devnostraeva is simple. You moved into our sphere of influence, and you moved with a rather recklessly quick abandon. Now your forces are already engaged in a hostile expansionist battle in the Caribbean, how do you expect us to believe you'll reform the Canandian government? Better yet, how do you expect us to accept your addtional saying that you'll 'defend' the Canadian area...thats like us saying we'll 'defend' Montana. You wouldnt like it and our President is beginning to believe that your people are not taking this seriously. And let me reassure you, your rapid expansion isnt just the concern of my government, but of the governments of my allies. My office has fielded calls from multiple nations and we've been thusly kind enough to allow this round of diplomacy to continue, but if our allies think we're being threatened, I make no promise that some of them wont pre-emptively go forward with their own plans.'

It was an indirect threat, but a threat none the less. The foreign secretary wasnt nearly about to play nice with his Californian counterpart. And this message was relayed to the consulate in Los Angeles which began to shred important documents and then burn them. It was a lot of sensititve material, with intelligence gathering gear also being destroyed. Equipment which took months and years to transport into the consulate piece by piece were broken up in a matter of hours by professional 'cleaners'. The documents were easy to destroy by method of chimney and shredder leaving little behind for when the consulate was finally closed off. It was a sign of the times and how unfortunate they were.

Sept. 3, 2261...

Toronto - The chaos which has consumed Canadian territories in the last few months is finally ending. The powerful armies of D.C.F.R. had pushed their ways all the way across the North American continent. In the meanwhile, they had been spreading lies and claims to these Canadian territories.

Seperatist rebels seeking to create the Maple Leaf Provinces, an independent and restored Canada, had pushed away The Gulf States forces and rule out of Canada. While The Gulf States had let Canada rule over themselves, defend themselves, and even allowed represenation on the Mainland in Congress in Lexington, some still were not happy with the autonomous commonwealth status.

Under a secret agreement, The Gulf States allowed their allies, the much stronger militarily D.C.F.R. was allowed to push the rebels away from Toronto and the rest of Canada. Since the rebel seperatist armies have been wiped out, The Gulf States has resumed its influence in the Canadian territories.

The blue and white star flag flies once again over Toronto and all across much of Canadian territory. The same ol' has been resumed after months of uncertainty and chaos. Authority all across the nation and The Gulf States are thankful for D.C.F.R's intervention. However, TGS is now upset with D.C.F.R.'s attempts to claim the region as their own, in an attempt to further conquest the North American continent. We were deeply upset when D.C.F.R. claimed Alberta and pushed its forces into our lands, but we stood silent. We allowed D.C.F.R. to come into Labrador against our will, but we took cash settlement as some sort of appeasement for our allies.

We are grateful they have decided to cede the territories. However, we want our recognition of rule in the Canadian territories restored. We are the holders of Northwest Territory, Nunavut, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. These territorial rights MUST be recognized by D.C.F.R. for us to be happy again. We will continue to allow D.C.F.R. to use our military bases, as well as extend the power share agreement on the Labrador territory. But, we want our rule in Alberta and on Labrador back. The Canadian territories shall be reunited as they were in the original carving of the North American territories. Everything in Canada besides B.C. and Yukon are ours.

They sold us Labrador and let us have Alberta... What do those fuckers want? Money? If they want cash we'll give them half a trillion dollars to shut the fuck up about it." Looking over at Gen. Koudriautsev with an annoyed look she sighed "General, I am going to need you to talk to your people in the Department of Defense and have some forces go and secure Alberta and Labrador... If they want Alberta and Labrador back bad enough they can come and take it from us. We have been more than accomodating in giving the rest of Canada back to them and they want more?!? Newly installed Canadian Prime Minister Craig McLeary was rushed to the underground warroom bunker at the Executive Building downtown. Along with him, several of his chiefs of staff and interns. Once entering the bunker, he sees a table of top generals, a couple of video screens turned on, and loads of file folders strewn across the table.

McLeary: What's the matter guys?

Gen. Wesley Smith: Well, we got this new crisis with California.

McLeary: Damn it, what now?

Gen. Tim Purpura: Well, they want Alberta and Labrador back. Hell or high water. They offer $500 billion.

McLeary: What do they want these territories for?

Gen. Stephen Diajyszk: We got ultra secret intelligence on their plans. They plan on attacking another one of our allies. And then perhaps making another run on our territory again.

Alex Cora, President of The Gulf States: Well, we can't let them take Canada from us again. The leadership in Los Angeles are fucking mad. If we cede this much territory, what's next? Costa Rica? Guiana-Suriname? Haiti and the Dominican Republic? Or God forbid, Venezuela, Brazil, and the Mainland itself. I don't want them Californians in my country, making Lexington it's bitch. I will not stand for this.

McLeary: But we let them just waltz across my borders before.

Cora: Aware. But we let them drive the rebels out. And then they tried to drive us out too.

McLeary: So what do we do about Alberta and Labrador?

Cora: We let them have a promise for bases on Labrador. But they want the whole damn territory. It's bad enough we allowed the bases, we know what they're going to use them for.

McLeary: Ugh. Shit. What the hell are allies like California for anyway? They just bend you over and cornhole you in the end anyway.

Cora: Alright, we'll plead for help from the international community. If they see an invasion of Alberta and we cry for help, perhaps people will support us. If we give them Labrador, and they see what California is using the land for, we might be able to get it back. I mean, we beat Ziotah hundred or so years ago to get Quebec and the maritimes. They were misusing the lands, and Cuba, and when the international community ganged up on them, we just marched over from Ontario. So maybe if we wait and let California fuck up, maybe California will give us the territory back.

McLeary: It's a gamble.

Purpura: Can we just cede Labrador and Alberta back and just end this whole thing?

Cora: We all don't want to do that. That is our last case scenario, because if they take what is OURS ... again ... what is there to stop them from moving into Quebec or Newfoundland or Manitoba? They moved into OUR land, then are convinced it's THEIRS. We let them walk in, we let them bribe us. And now they get pissed off when we're the only ones who remember what really happened.

McLeary: Fuck it. Just go with the international community. If they can't fully help us, we have no other options. We can only defend them for so long, we are not the suicidal militaristic society they are.

Cora: You know they're going to find out about this, right?

McLeary: Well, you are the President, I'm just a territorial leader. What the fuck do I know? You got to make the final decisions. And yea, I know they can spy on us like stealing candy from a baby.

Cora: Ugh. Do it. Just let shit play out. Just don't let them take anything more from us than we can afford to give up. If we have to return to that bullshit status quo, so be it. I really don't want to.

Helios Command Bunker, Beneath the East River:

The news was filtered through to television monitors on the far off wall. The room was silent as The Gulf States which was declared dead by the Californian Communists had reared its head once more and told them to leave. In no uncertain terms it was creating friction the likes of which the Central Guard, the military intelligence unit of the Federal Republic had very little insight into. The failure of the Central Guard to determine the facts in the resurgence of the Gulf States would be delt with after the fact. For the moment the situation was pleasing to President Santos' ears. Surprises werent always bad.

'Well ladies and gentlmen, this joker puts a whole new spin on the cards in our hand. I believe War Plan Orange called for the 5th Army Corps to enter through Canada on its push westard...I think we can reroute them to head through the great plains...this is of course should we need to. I think though since our demands are mostly met we can wait on executing Orange.' President Santos flipped through the folder slowly before an aid moved into the room and replaced that folder with the latest updates concering spy sat movements and the like. On the last page was an order which Santos jubilantly signed and handed it back to the aid before the intelligence officer left.

'Mr. President, our allies wont be pleased if we put the warplans on hold. They're eager to put it to the communists.' One of the Generals called out before Santos could put up his hand and hold off the futher comments.

'They may still get some use. Lets not count out the communists from making stupid mistakes for us to declare war over. The military is to remain on alert, and I want the bomber flights to increase and lets start bringing the stonehenge guns online. I want our dear Californian Communist friends to think we're all set to launch a strike. Infact gentlemen...' Santos pushed a button on the console infront of him which brought up the satillite tracking screen, a feed from the New Brunswick Space Tracking facility...one satillite marked ASAT-12 had the flag of the republic above it, while another satillite marked C&A Spy Sat moved in an orbit which watched the Gulf States. '..the orders I signed just a few moments ago will send ASAT-12 on a collision course with the C&A Spy Sat. If we're not going to launch an all out war I may as well give them a few pokes where I can.'

The room let out a few chuckles as ASAT-12 kicked up its micro-fusion engines and changed orbit to send its course directly into the path of one of the satillites which was now monitoring the Gulf States. The limited artifical intelligence onboard ASAT-12 would continue to change course when nessecary in order to fufill its mission. It was an expensive way to get rid of nosey eyes but it was a bold statement none the less. An apology would be of course sent publically...an errant telecommunications satellite runamok or an old SDI platform preforming its final commands...some lie which couldnt be easily proven without extensive looking into classified files. Thus began the openning shots not with a bang but with a whimper.

Department of Defense Headquarters, San Jose, California — DCFR.
Shortly after eleven in the morning the balloon went up, Generals Koudriautsev, Marx, and Kensington answered the alert immediately leaving everything they were doing to get the first pieces of information they could. Upon arriving the news was laid out, an attack had in fact occured, Generals Marx and Koudriautsev just stood there gazing at the live video feed from another satellite further off in orbit. Gen. Marshall Kensington wee completely speechless. All Gen. Marx let out a loud exhalation before saying it. "Those goddamned bastards" He looked over to the other two generals standing there completely shocked by the situation. "I want you to activate the Sky-Net Battlefield Management System... activate the Valkyrie Defense System, I want you to put all Sky-Net/Valkyrie satellites on defensive operations. I cannot wait until those little bastards from New York and New Jersey figure out that I've launched enough satellites to see every goddamned inch of the upper Western Hemisphere... what's more I cannot wait until those fuckers try and shoot one of these satellites down. I hope they don't mind if our satellites begin defending themselves from any and all preceivable threats that could possibly be thrown at them." Getting Gen. Koudriautsev's attention he gave out orders for him "General Koudriautsev, I need you to relay this to the President, she needs to know whats going on." Gen. Koudriautsev saluted and left the room. Gen. Marx looked over to General Kensington "I am going to need you to remain here and keep me updated on any new events that arise." As Gen. Marx left the DOD headquarters and hopped a flight from San Jose Int'l to LAX, there he personally met up with the President.

General Assembly Room, Executive Tower 1. Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles SAR — DCFR.
Californian President, Jennifer Jourgensen stood before the podium center stage of the General Assembly Room. "This goes out to the President of New York and New Jersey. If you thought that was the only spy satellite we had fixed on the Canadians, you were wrong. In conducting your brazen attack on our satellites, you have comitted what some would be haste enough to call an act of war. After watching a real time live feed of the loss of one of the satellites belonging to our Sky-Net Battlefield Management System we launched all remaining satellites into orbit. Unlike that particular model of satellite that was destroyed by your anti-satellite missiles. This new series of satellites have been built with an advanced self-defense mechanism built into them. No amount of anti-satellite missiles will destroy these satellites... not without constituting a major risk to the pilots of the aircraft launching those rockets. So before I continue on, I would like to let you know this President De Los Santos. We have no beef with you, however... if you wish to interfere on behalf of a nation who's idea of leadership is that of an Indian Giver, that is your perrogative. I have assented to your demands, President De Los Santos — all of the Canadian Provinces which weren't a part of California prior to the Californian annexation — have in fact, been ceded. I have withdrawn my military to the comfort of my own soil... soil that includes the states of Alberta and Labrador. Labrador was purchased in a legitimate transaction via the Treaty of St. John's (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=399979). Alberta however, if you can consider it — was annexed without any legal procedure — can be construed as an illegal annexation. So in ending this message — which not only goes out to you President De Los Santos — but also to the leadership of Canada, California will not cede Labrador, Labrador has been paid for with 20.59 billion Californian Sovereigns which is the equivalent to 35 billion United States Dollars. With the permission of the Canadian government, we would like to make a cash purchase for Alberta. I do not want some contrived lease agreement, I don't want to lease any bases... this purchase is for the entirity of Alberta. We have no intention of any aggression towards your nation, President De Los Santos, nor any aggression towards the Canadians. However if challenged to defend our soil, we will not hesitate to do so — we are merely acting to insure that Labrador, land we have paid for legitimately... remains ours."

P.S., I don't know how many times I have re-iterated this, nor how many times I have been forced to re-iterate this. California is not a communist nation. We have only been Socialist in name, and are a democratic nation with elected leaders, brought together in a commonwealth of states to become the Democratic Californian Federated Republic. We are just as much of a democracy as you are. Please don't think the people of California have forgotten about your nation's brief stint as an Autocratic Monarchy.

Woody's on Brunette, Coquitlam, British Columbia...

'Oh...oh...fuck these guys...' exclaimed a customer as he sipped at his beer. The big screen had been playing the news since this whole shitticane started up. Woody's was a popular pub, many people frequented it during the day time for the fine food...and of course, the beautiful waitresses. The pub was pretty busy for a weekday afternoon, people had come down to watch the new and invariably rant about as all Canadians do.

'I got an idea, how about everyone just gets the fuck out?' said a well-to-do bar patron.

'You know, it sounds like a good idea when you say it...but when you actually think about it you realize those fucking New Yorkers will just hold it over our heads. "We liberated you guys, fuck yeah!" The concept makes me sick, giving those idiots more chances to go on about how great they are.' countered his friend who, in contrast to his well dressed friend, was wearing his paint spattered work clothes.

Being occupied by America was a fate worse than death.

'...I'd also like to point out, Bill, that Americans have never lost a war...' said a guest on the American based news network that they were watching...this naturally caused the collective boos and jeers of everyone at the bar.

'Oh Jesus Christ...I wouldn't even give America an entire war to their credit.' shouted the spattered man.

'Why would you say that? Korea, World War two, World one, the American War of Independence....' the well-to-do individual began listing off wars, only to enrage his friend more and more.

'Oh go rotate on it man! The French won the War of Independence! They came in late in both world wars, and only then they fought inside of an alliance. They also managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Korea...'

'What about the Spanish-American Wars? Or the Plains Wars?'

'Oh wow, they beat the Spaniards. You know what, my good friend? Canada seized some Spanish fishing trawlers back in 1995 and nothing came of it...Spain sucks. And those Plains wars? Oh awesome, that's a real proud piece of history there. They beat the Natives, with their superior technology and numbers...'

'Desert Storm?'

'Nope.'

'Operation Iraqi Freedom?'

The Workin' Man just burst out laughing.

'You're just not going to give up on this are you?' asked the Well-to-do man, who seemed to be the most sympathetic man in the entire pub.

'Americans are terrible fighters...which blows my mind because they seem to like to do it all the fucking time. Look at these New Yorkers for instance!'

'Well, I agree...De Los Santos is a jackass.'

'I believe the word was Douche Bag.' corrected the Workin' Man before continuing his rant.

'Americans think just because they've been in alot of wars they are gods gift to combat...These New Yorker fuckwits are the worst shit disturbers I've seen in their lame history. I'm surprised no one's stepped on them yet...the way they fight out at Mars, the kinds of bombs they throw around, I'm pretty sure someone could drop a handful of bombs on the eastern seaboard and half the continents problems would be gone in a day.'

The Well-to-do fella' looked thoughtfully at his friend before saying 'What about the Californians?'

'Don't get me started on that shitty place. I went there once. It's brown. That's all I can say. Fucking. Brown. Another thing about those idiots, they watch too much TV. I'm not talking about the news, I'm talking about MTV, Full House and fucking I'm with Brady, bullshit!. My ultimate opinion, and it's a good one...you want to hear it?'

'I have a feeling I will anywa...'

'They should all sign into, what I like to call, Greater British Columbia. It will be a superstate run out of Victoria...they will not have votes. They will be guided by the shining light of my wisdom...because they are all fucking idiots that deserve to die.'

'That's kinda harsh, man.' said the Well-to-do guy, jaw agape.

'I hate Americans. I hate them so much...'

This conversation was being held, with out much doubt, by the majority of Canadians, regardless of province or current administration. It was a sure bet, that at any point in history, if you asked a Canadian about being ruled over by an American government, you'd hear the same thing.

'Not fucking lightly.'

OOC:

I'll delete this if Sovereign California insists. Other than that, this is intented to be a window into a real Canadian's opinion on the concept of being occupied by America, New York, California, or otherwise.

Strike Commander Erich Killkill relaxed in his cabin aboard the RSN Ascendant, the massive fortress ship, five kilometers from bow to stern, weighed heavy upon him, like a portion of it rested upon his shoulders. He'd never much liked space travel, but there was one good thing about it. Every time he did it, it ended with him making a drop.

He loved orbital insertions, they were better than sex. The only thing he could think of that was better than an orbit-to-ground drop was having sex during an orbit-to-ground drop...something to try, if he ever found a girl who could pull it off. He wasn't much worried about himself -- he was an Angel.

The Revenian Angel Regiments, or, more commonly, 'The Drop Commandoes,' were the elite. They were equivalent to the Seraphim Regiments and one rung below the Guard, the most elite fighting formations in the Supremacy. Erich himself was better than that, he wore a Swordsworn pin on his lapel.

He rose from the chair he was sitting and took his warblade down from its pegs, dropping the scabbard off the blade and to the floor. The blue-hued Eldensteel blade gleamed in the cabin's light, and Erich ran through a rapid blade drill, slicing the air with perfect accuracy.

The lads from New York and Jersey were in for a fight, more than likely...but they had help en-route, and they knew it. Hopefully it wouldn't make them cocky. Not that it'd matter. Erich Killkill was Revenian, Halfling-Ascended. His amusing last name was a curse from a father who had been a professional comedian, but his mother's name had been Kagari, and that said more about him than anything else in the world.

He looked across the cabin at his visitor, a man sitting in a black leather duster and nursing a cup of hotcaf, clutched in both hands. He looked a little bit like Death, thin and razor-sharp. He wore the same pin that Erich wore on his lapel, Swordsworn, the Warprince's Own, the elite of the elite. The best fighters in Revenia.

His name was Daos Kagari, and he was the Warprince's Special Attache to Erich's Strike Command. That he was also Erich's cousin was irrelevant. Point of fact, Kagari was probably the deadliest bastard near Sol, as of now, unless that soulless killer Del'Riva was in-system, or worse, that freak Talmirion was about. Now that was a scary man, looking like some demon from a child's fairy tale...and worse. A Gunslinger.

Point of truth, both men were antsy. They all were. Waiting for the go-code wasn't good for anybody's nerves, and the inevitability of it all just made it worse, watching the diplomatic efforts spiralling down like both sides weren't really even trying to make it better...so Daos drank hotcaf and Erich killed invisible enemies. Coping. Later, they'd both get shitfaced. With their luck, they'd have to fight with a hangover, but they'd done it before...and it wouldn't slow them down much.

They were Swordsworn. The best of the best. The most deadly individuals ever to have to dropped out of some poor old lady's unmentionables. 'n they were coming, eventually. All else was as nothing before the storm.

The Ctan
28-12-2006, 20:17
Somewhere in space, beyond the galaxy’s shining lens, the Supreme Director of the C’tan Imperial Security Agency watched from a pair of glasses as a live feed showed plots over the N. American sphere. Californian forces for the most part, seemed to have withdrawn, or be moving at maximum speed back towards their own borders. The only exceptions were embassy and consulate guards in Toronto and Montreal.

They weren’t withdrawing at all from the whole Cuban area, of course, they seemed to be having what de Vere would call a ‘bushfire war’ there, at least by modern standards; as far as he knew, there weren’t exactly nukes flying, which these days, qualified something as such in an unfortunate number of cases.

Well, New Jersey had its buffer zone back; in a manner of speaking. The whole area wasn’t very stable now, after an effort at a coup, followed by a very brief foreign annexation. Fortunately, the area wasn’t, he thought, unless things were rather worse than the line of statistics he had before him suggested, liable to implode into violence. At least, not if left on their own. A fairly developed infrastructure tended to moderate such things. The New Yorkers should, Paul thought, concern themselves with establishing a puppet-regime to their north, rather than worrying about the Californians, who’d all but rolled over, confining themselves to their previous borders.

Of course, so far, he couldn’t do much about any of it. If the Californians weren’t buying the ‘errant telecommunications’ story, he couldn’t make them, and his efforts at persuading them would be quite counter productive. The New Yorkers had yet to call on the C’tan, so for now, the official reaction was very low key, they were confident that the US wouldn’t be affected by any war directly; it was fairly adequately defended from the Californians, and the New Yorkers wouldn’t be aiming for it.

Now to hope that the New Yorkers would take the Californian submission, de Vere thought as he pulled a large and particularly unhealthy – he didn’t need to worry – cigar from a box on his green-lit desk. After all, the Californians had done everything but start lapping their shoes and fetching them papers in the morning. Unfortunately, it seemed that some people on both sides wanted war, regardless.

OOC: The stuff about the Californians being gone from Canada was confirmed over IRC with Cali. It's meant to be implicit in her post, or something. But yah, the telemetry there is about what anyone with good spy-sats should be seeing.

Ottawa...

Purpura: We got some interesting news guys.

Cora: What's that?

McLeary: Well, the Californians want to negotiate sales for Alberta and Labrador.

Cora: And?

McLeary: You should know this shit. You're high President of all TGS.

Cora: I know. But you guys are my minions. You report everything to me. Now tell me, what's the news?

McLeary: The Californians agreed they made unlawful advance into Alberta and wish to negotiate for its sale. They will not accept leases or partial agreements. They want the whole damn province, or nothing at all. And well, we know the Californians won't settle for anything besides their way.

Cora: Go on.

McLeary: And then the Californians drew up some treaty to sign over Labrador to them. They pledge to give us roughly $35 billion for the entire area. They will send ambassadors to St. Johns, New Brunswick whenever we agree on the deal.

Cora: And what's for them not to point a nuclear bomb at Toronto, Montreal, here, Sao Paulo, Lexington, anywhere of ours ... if we say no?

McLeary: Clearly the Californians are fucking ruthless and psychotic. They know we seek peace and friendship. They abused our ally status for so long, or so it seems.

Purpura: But get this. The New Yorkers now see this as an opening to invade California, because they seem them as weak because we stood up to them for once.

Smith: But, now there are spy satellites covering every square inch of the continent, between the Western Hemisphere powers. And granted, someone is bound to piss off another country into war. For all we know, there's rockets and missiles lined up in western Pennsylvania and in western Montana waiting for the order.

Cora: Are any aiming towards us currently?

Smith: I doubt it. Let the Americans bomb the shit out of each other first. As long as we keep out of it, we'll be safe for now. I mean, California can't be happy about not having Alberta and Labrador, but if they got a more important issue ... they're going to obviously be diverted.

Sighs aloud... beaten by a fucking technicality. I couldn't change the date on that post as C&A is DEAT. Simply subtract 260 from 2506 years to get the date that should be used.

Right around the beginning of 2006 I realized that playing in the year 2506 was at best a little far-fetched... so I reset the date to something more reasonable.
At the time the year in California was 2519... taking the fact that California wnt independent in 1999 that puts California's age as a nation as 520 years. After halving that number I found the year 2259 to be more reasonable.

So had I the ability to have been able to change the year to the date that reflects what year it would have been had 260 years were subtracted... would leave the year as 2246.

Helios Command Bunker, Beneath the East River-

'Do we trust their intentions? They've agreed to the withdrawl..but we have bigger concerns amongst us now..the Californians have armed sats in orbit over us, a Battlegroup hovering close to our territorial waters...whats to say they wont launch a first strike once our main forces are off of alert? I cant advise we step down just yet sir.' It was a voice of reason amongst the Generals no matter how off of the real situation it was.

'Armed spy sats...are we really worried about this? We've fought wars on other planets and we're worried about toys in orbit? If we really found ourselves in a corner the 1st Fleet can sweep the sky easily...as for that Battlegroup they maybe close, but that just puts them in range of our civil defense batteries...and I wont even begin to remind you all just how many people would give us some form of support. We are allied to many folks who would love to test our weapons systems even on a limited basis....lets not worry about them first striking..lets worry about what forces will we withdraw first...suggestions?'

'Our bomber crews will be reaching severe fatigue levels with the rate of constant take offs and landings. Rotations have been thrown to hell since the start of this crisis. I think if we began to scale back the deployments and then got back on normal rotational flights would fix the situation. From there though I suggest we keep our forces, at least those in the interceptor forces on combat alert. It is my opinion if we are to step down that those units capable of a defensive role should remain on alert...'

'I agree Mr. President. However if we're going to keep forces on defensive alert, then I suggest we finish call up the reserve and national guard units. We're at sixty percent readiness and expect the remaining Guard units to reach war fighting capacity in the next five days. The generals were each looking over scattered figures on the displays infront of them. Logistics and numbers flowed from hundreds of bases into this central command structure ,one of seven, where the information was broken up into something readable by the command staff of the Federal Republic. President Santos was keen to put this even behind him though and took the suggestions into account for several more seconds before signing off on the orders.

'Fine we'll go with what was suggested at the moment, however we'll not engage in anymore belligerant actions. No more knocking satellites out of the sky for the moment. We'll see how events between our dear friends in Los Angeles and those up in Canada play out. One of the conditions is that expansion is over and done with...as long as the buffer remains we've no problem..agreed?'

A bunch of hushed mumbles and nodding heads signaled agreement with the President over the choice and it wasnt but nine hours later that the bomber flights went from chaotic massed launches to regularly timed intervals with bomber crews back on a rotation which allowed for downtime and allowed for ground crews to ensure the bombers were in optimal condition. The army and navy however had no such luck, they continued to remain at the highest alerts as the final touches to the revised War Plan Orange were made to be submitted. Peace might return, but the question was asked, how long would it last?
