Signups are closed. The RP thread is up. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=507641)

자스연 (Jasīʼyūn)* officially welcomes representatives of all nations to participate in the II Olympic Winter Games in 케토 (Keto). The Games will be held in a format similar to the first Winter Games in Aeropag, though with significantly less funding. The same eighty-seven events will be held (see the signup form).

Bid Thread, Abridged Version
Results will be generated twice per day. The entire Games will, barring any delays, take 18 days. Signups will be closed at 00:00 UTC on 2006–11–19, with the Games to start on 2006–11–20. An unspecified RP bonus will be used, based on quality. The schedule has not yet been created, but will hopefully make more sense than the schedule for the Aeropag games.

Signup Instructions
Copy the following list of events. Under each event, put the names of the athletes that you wish to participate in that event. Optionally, put a skill modifier after each athlete in parentheses. It is preferred that you use a value between 0 and 1 (or 0.25 and 0.75), with higher numbers corresponding to greater skill, but you can use any system as long as you explain it. The skill modifiers should average to no more than 0.50, though it will be corrected if you go over. The maximum number of competitors is specified in parentheses after each event. If you are not participating in an event, you may omit it. At the end (or the beginning), you may specify your team’s three-letter abbreviation.

Example:
BIATHLON
Women’s 7.5 km Sprint (4)
Alan Belmore (0.9)
Trefor (0.2)
Men’s 10 km Sprint (4)

—————

Signup Restrictions
Each participant may enter no more than one puppet nation. All puppet signups must state the master nation. Each nation’s delegation may consist of no more than 179 athletes (a puppet’s athletes are not counted against the main nation).

Ariddia announces "re-unified" Olympic delegation

The announcement of Ariddia's delegation to the second Olympic Games made history in the Ariddian Isles, and not just because supporters were eager to see their athletes back in action. The Comité Olympique Ariddian revealed that the three Ariddian States (the PDSRA, Sovereign West Ariddia and North-West Ariddia) had agreed to a unified delegation to represent the Ariddian Isles.

This has been heralded as a historic step for reconciliation within the divided Isles.

Individual West Ariddian and North-West Ariddian athletes will compete alongside their PDSRA counterparts, and the men's and women's ice hockey teams will both contain players from all three States. Furthermore, a four-man bobsleigh team will be composed of two Ariddians and two West Ariddians, while the relay teams in short track and speedskating also contain athletes from the three countries competing together.

The team's sports code will remain ARI, but, for the first time ever, it is the reunification flag (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Ariddian_reunification_flag) which will represent the Ariddian Isles' delegation. At present, the question of the anthem is unresolved, but it appears the PDSRA's national anthem, Dream, may be retained.

The Democratic Republic of The Free Holy Ones will send a small but very fit group to the olympics. Our nation will not spend extra funds to send athletes without chances for a top-10 placement in the olympics and has choosen to limit it to our famous national sports icons.

BOBSLEIGH
Two-Man - Lasse Frost / Kent Skaaning

FIGURE SKATING
Pairs - Jens Hansen / Gitte Sand

Lasse Frost, the upcomming hope, was interviewed just after he was selected.
"I can't say I'm disappointed, but I had hoped to be in the two-man bob with Ole (Editor: Schlüter) but my age is to my advantage. In 4 years I'll have the more experience and I'm confident to be in both categories by then.
For now I just have to focus on proving worthy to serve my country in the olympics. We have all been training wery hard for this for the last 2½ years, so now is the time to harvest the fruit.
Do as I and eat Holy Glory Chocolate bars - they give divine strength!"

Qazox (QZX) will be sending the following delegation to the 2nd Winter Olympiad in Keto. The Oxen will look to improve upon their medal haul of 6 total medals. The team is a bit larger than the last time out, with a total of 28 athletes in 25 events, compared to 20 athletes in 11 events last time.

Az-cz submits a small federation for these winter olympics. As Az-cz is a rather warm country the number of competitors is small, and also many of them are not that good because they mostly practice in warm weather recreations. But the spirit is good. The Az-cz three character code is A-C.

Fordavia
09-11-2006, 17:16
Due to it's location in the ex-volcanic region of Haiku. The free lands of Fordavia have limited experience with winter sports, but after an intensive training camp with select members of the population, a small team will travel to represent the nation with the hope that their star man, Karsiis Delurtey (who only recently acquired citizenship of Fordavia after moving there to be with his wife) can do the nation proud.

12.5KM PURSUIT MEN - Gordon Jones (.49)
The participants in the biathlon pursuit event are determined by the results of the sprint.

OOC: Huh?
IC: The Olympic organizing committee has been unable to find a report of this kidnapping. If you are unable to retrieve the athletes prior to the start of the Olympics and you can provide indisputable evidence of the kidnapping, the athletes may be disqualified. Otherwise, there’s nothing we can do.

Women’s 1.5 km Marie Latour, and Marie Latour
Are these supposed to be two different people?

Finally, the Miervatia Today newspaper will have daily coverage of the events in which Mikitivitian athletes will perform (available in both English and German language editions).

OOC: The roster is complete and scored w/ a national average of 0.5. I can provide the spreadsheet if that will aid in scoring. I'll count up the total delegation size, but it should easily fall below the limit. :)

Yeah. Do you know how many, exactly?

The standard active roster for an NHL team is 20 players. 4 lines (think units) of 3 forwards, 3 lines of 2 defenseman, and 2 goalkeepers. The olympics probably allow for expanded rosters so that you can alternate players between matches, but the active roster for any one game is probably still 20 players.

probably.. Think about it.. in RL the USA, China, Russia are probably on average at least a .50 in almost any Olympic event (with exceptions),.

for Example:

Australia on average the last couple of Olympics is at least a .75 in swimming, but a .25 on every thing else.

Besides i think the more higher skill levels, the more disscussion, and MAYBE better RP's. (i.e.: Judge contoversies.. falls, crashes, failed drug tests.. etc. as to why an athlete lost.)
The Archregimancy
11-11-2006, 07:57
I regret that for RL reasons I won't be able to be active in this winter olympiad.

However, just to make sure the Archregimancy are represented in each Olympiad, MOCTA will enter two athletes:

Cross Country Skiing
Men's 50km Freestyle -

Fr. Michael who Endureth Much (0.75)

Men's Figure skating -

Fr. Andrew the Seeker after Truth (0.25)

Ariddia has my permission to use Fr. Vasily the Heavily-Accented as a MOCTA spokesman.

In the Turin Olympics, I believe a men's hockey team was 24 players, and a women's 20. I know nothing about hockey, so I don't know what the difference may be due to. But those are the numbers I used in the first Winter Olympics, and am using again now.

Thanks. I'll use him if there's an opportunity, but I could never hope to match your RPing skill with him.

It wouldn't be Winter Olympics without athletes from the Archregimancy. I'm glad there'll at least be a "token" presence.

Bears Armed

Bears Armed would like to send a team to these games, and is starting to put one together (OOC: if I'm going to manage this then expect it on Tuesday, if that's not too late...) although most of the 'Winter sports' that we actually play at home are just like the Summer ones except for being held in snow & ice...

Our national identifying code is BRS.

We would also like to express our deep disappointment in the continual lack of a women's 5000 metres.
Oh, I did that again? :(
This (speed skating) event has been added. As long as there’s some way I can tell what you changed, anyone may edit their delegation to reflect this change (or to do anything else, actually :p ).

The average for a delegation should be 0.5. Delegations with higher averages have all of their skill modifiers multiplied by a number such that their average becomes 0.5; delegations with lower averages are unaffected.

It isn’t too late; signups will be open at least until Thursday, if not longer.

Oops, saw this too late. I made some changes to my delegation, but there's not really a way to tell what changed by just looking at it.

The changes that I made are:
- added an athlete for the 5km women's speedskating
- I forgot to add all shorttrack events to my delegation, so those were added too
- changed/added some skill modifiers to get an average of 0.5, and I overwrote the previous ones, so I don't know precisely which ones I changed (but I only used skillmodifiers for Curling, Ice Hockey, and Figure Skating)

Wentland
12-11-2006, 16:29
The Wentland squad - the Gentoos (ISO code WLD) - sign up for their second tilt at winter olympicdom.

With scientific input into the bobsleigh design from Jeff Jordan, and splendid ice-slides at Vinson Base, the team is putting most of its eggs into the sliding basket - many of the other participants are there to enjoy the Olympic ideal. But the women's short-track relay team will attempt to defend their totally unexpected (and somewhat fluke) gold in the inaugural Olympiad.

Is Doubles Luge supposed to be two mixed teams, or one 2-man and one mixed?

According to Olympic.org (http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/programme/disciplines_uk.asp?DiscCode=LG):
There is no rule that says a doubles team must comprise members of the same sex, but traditionally, men have ridden together, with the larger man lying on top for a more aerodynamic fit.

The delegation includes thirty athletes competing in nine different categories. A nation of Nordic origin, the citizens of Noremark anxiously await the games and those fortunate have already planned their trip to see the games live in Keto.

Dumania,

Generally there aren't individual confirmations. As most tournaments are wide open affairs, with anyone who applies accepted you can usually check the first page to see where signups are updated to. As of this posting you aren't signed up, but give CH sometime and he'll get around to it. But don't expect personal messages each time you sign up for something.

We haven’t entered any of the events that involve going down hills rapidly, one way or another, because the Bears’ extra momentum due to their greater-than-human weights means that they generally need more room than Humans do for manoeuvring & stopping during such events (and also, for Bobsleigh, Luge & Skeleton, larger vehicles than are standard…). We’ve also avoided most of the races that involve speed over short distances, because we’re better at endurance than at acceleration. We don’t actually play ‘Ice Hockey’ back at home, so our entries in that sport here have in fact been assembled from amongst the members of some of our leading ‘Ice Rugby' teams instead: They’ve only had a relatively short period of training in this sport, but seem reasonably good anyway…
