Rambler's rights

Choccakeland

My issue today was whether to allow landowners to fence off public footpaths.

The Republic of Choccakeland's position on this was to allow these. While we respect landowner's rights to a certain extent, we will fight to protect tradition so everyone can enjoy the countryside. If people cannot enjoy nature, there is no point in preserving it.

Here in Boardmania there is little country left to cause is such a trivial headache!! Every scrap of land is given to our industries, industries create wealth which make our kingdom strong...work = prosperity,
coutryside = grass.

Szanth has done the same as Choccakeland and allowed walkers to roam where they please through land owned by citizens and state alike. A single man has no use for thirty acres of land, and though it is his by right and he has the ability to do what he wishes with said land, it is still land, and in that, everyone has a right to it to an extent.

If it is "his land by right and he has the ability to do with it what he wishes"
then it is fine for him to fence off the public, and thus you defeat your own arguement!!

He can fence it off, I suppose, but people tend to find ways around fences. What I'm saying is he has no use for that much land in this country, therefore he must allow walkers to pass through. If he had a reasonable purpose for it, then he could use it for said purpose, but as I said, there is no purpose other than for him to be able to say "I own lots of land" - you still own it regardless of who walks upon it.

Regardless, we don't indulge those who waste land for the sake of bragging rights. If he comes up with a purpose for said land, we will arrange other means of transportation for those who need to walk through - till then, he must tolerate it. His land is so large he rarely ever even sees someone walking through.

It is true that there is no effective way to stop trespassers, however in Boardmania if you ARE caught comitting the crime of trespass you ARE dealt with accordingly. Just because a man cannot see all of is land it does not mean that he does not have the right to know his land is protected if it is his wish.

In Szanth, ownership of land is but a piece of paper until you actually do something with it. You may not dictate what goes on on said land unless you have a purpose for it other than what you dictate for it not to be handled by.

We are a community. Nobody owns anything unless it's being used for a purpose.

Your provence has a different ethic to my Kingdom, here if a man toils and works hard and is productive he is allowed to enjoy the fruits of his labour without the great unwashed roaming around his land!!

I see this as a good way to encourage greater productivity, work hard and you will get far, work shy and you will suffer be poor and probalby die.

Yes indeed, our countries are different at the most basic levels. Here, we encourage people through rewards and compassion. 99% of all jobs in our land is given and maintained by the government. Many of our people are so environmentally conscious, they've actually taken to living in trees and are happy to do so. For this sacrifice they enjoy the benefit of no pollution, and live a nearly stress-free life. Combine this with our incredibly comprehensive and free healthcare system and you can begin to understand how mentally and physically healthy all of our citizens are.
