To the Moon! (OOC thread, 2050)

War looms on the horizon. This is to be the crucial proving ground where the technology of the modern space race is to be given a baptism of fire. Ship against shuttle, cosmonaut against astronaut, Fascism against freedom. At stake is control of most, if not all, of the surface of Luna, the Lagrange points, and quiet possibly the world.

The Neo-Fascist Conglomerate of Kargucagstan has constructed several mass drivers capable of launching SSTOs in its northern mountains. This is not a problem in itself, as several other nations have already constructed their own. The crisis arises when Kargucagstan decides to muscle in on the moon and its valuable resources. In a sudden and clearly illegal move, Kargucagstan launches a lightning invasion of Spizanian colonial territory. At the same time the Moon is declared a province of the Conglomerate. Outraged, nations back on Earth vow to defend their holdings and stem the Fascist tide.

Now that that melodramatic introduction is out of the way, let’s go over the ground rules:

1) This is a PMT, invite-only RP taking place in 2050. If you want to get in, post here or TG me. You must be 2050 and have a space program capable of getting you to the moon (or have someone fly you there).

2) You may join the RP at any time (with permission), but unless you sign up before it starts, no lunar holdings will be recognized.

3) In your first IC post, include a link to a thread (or post) detailing the forces committed to this war. For example, if I had 10,000 cosmonauts and a moon base, I would make a thread saying that (and also having a map showing where your base is located) and link to it. This is so we can all be on the same level, so to speak. You can use this thread to post your forces. Click here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=9968687) to see how (scroll up).

Just post on here to have yourself moved from the bottom list to the top or removed.

The RP will start sometime tomorrow (Friday 12th). I’m on the West Coast of America, so the time might be odd. This (http://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/mapcatalog/LMP/) site has maps of the surface of the moon for you to use. Right now Tycho, Nansen A and F, and Peary craters are all reserved, as well as portions of Mare Smythii and Mare Imbrium.

The IC thread can be found here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=11803206#post11803206).

I'm in. I'll have to consult Doc on how many soldiers the cargo bay can carry, but I'll have 24 shuttles initially plus however many heavy lift boosters I can afford.

Great. I'm thinking I'll have about 15k, but It's more or less everyone versus me, so I kinda need the numbers.
Scandavian States
13-10-2006, 00:31
Well, I'm not going to have that many soldiers up their. A couple hundred, maybe, because that's all I'll be able to train on short notice for lunar warfare.
Kargucagstan

Very realistic, I like that. My IC justification is that I've been preparing for lunar war for some six years now, forsaking any scientific research for military stuff. I figure I'll capture all the tech I need, hehe.

Is that counting logistics personnel or just mainline combat troops? Oh, and I'd like to take this opportunity to say, "%^(*& I'm screwed."

Izistani/Expansite Earth-Luna-LaGrange assets of note:

-Daemonfels, population 1250, including two companies of Hazardous Environment Combat Unit (HECU) troops with militarized lunar vehicles (hoppers, rovers and drone variants). Located in North Western Mare Smythii, and primarily concerned with administration, personel accomendations, and research. Rail link to Project Ehricke (experimental Clanking replicator/autofactory, rim of Schubert A) and roads connecting corporate research stations and farside astronomy outposts. Defences include perpared bunkers and trenchworks, anti-spacecraft missiles (with a fun variaty of warheads), recoilless cannon, lasers, and two 'gieger gun' installations.

-Anchorage, primary* low earth orbit station of the Izistani/Expansite space effort. Permanent crew of sixty. Primarily concerned with maintaining Lunar Tranfer Vehicle's and orbital military assets (inital construction of Gorgon class is done here). Limited defensive armament consisting of space to space kinetic missiles (think Brilliant Pebbles), and a anti-debris laser broom system (which, with the proper authorization, is capable of focusing its beam spread).
*Several stations are also operated by corporations, around ten crewmembers each, unarmed inflatables.

-IAF Gorgon class MS (Militarized Spacecraft) Pournelle and Heinlein.

-A dozen Lunar Transfer Vehicles.

5 Zenith class Extra-Atmospheric Vessels (EAVs)
KSN 00-01
KSN 01-02
KSN 02-03

KSN 04-05

A series of interlocking bases, energy plants, mining platforms, and mass drivers in and around Nansen A and F (http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a210/Zipline/LunarBaseplot.jpg). Defended by hardened missile silos, pop-up coilguns, orbiting MPPADS, etc.

*can mount either a 308mm mortar, 200mm magnet-assisted howitzer, or a 160mm recoilless rifle.

Not quite as impressive as some other nations holdings, but it should suffice.

Nice post Spiz. Glad you're active. Just a little nitpick, but I don't think you can shrink a nuke yield down to 300 tons. Half a KT at most, IIRC

Ehem its quite pratical to make fission devices in the double digit ton outputs much less half a kiloton.
