What is this?

The Surf NS Tour is a Surfing competition which you are invited to join. How it works is, once the tour starts, results will be simulated using a complex system of formulas which are influenced by both the settings you input at the bottom of this thread, and a random factor which make the results more enjoyable. Additionally, you can earn bonus points towards your competitors performances by contributing worthwhile posts to the RP thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=499401)

In Character-ly, all events will take place in the Tropics of Vilita or in the Vilitan Cove in the Atlantian Oceania region. A full list of venues and maps will be posted along with the RP thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=499401)

You may also be interested in noting that this is a committed tournament with a very experienced host. Vilita has hosted countless tournaments from Soccer to Hockey to... Slaniball. Vilita is also an experienced creator of "Scorinat (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Scorinate)ors." The "Scorinator" being used for this event is fully tested and skillfully written to provide the best experience for all competitors, and is designed to allow a smooth transition into the second tour, whether or not it is held in Vilita.


Event Format

Each Event on the Surf NS Tour will have a similar format. An unlimited number of participants can enter the First Stage. At the first stage of each event, the participants will get 3 scoring runs towards their overall score. After the first stage, the Top 16 participants based on average score from their qualifying runs will advance to the elimination portion of the Event. From this second round stage, the field will be cut in half. During the elimination rounds, only the surfers run from that round will count. So this means the if the leader after the first stage has a bad run in round 2, their scores from round 1 will not contribute to them finishing in the top 8 in round 2 and advancing.

Team & Individual Standings

Individual Standings will work very clearly, as all of a competitors runs from an event will contribute to his/her overall score for the season-long Individual Standings. These Individual Standings will have no effect on the results in the inagural tour. Much like the Baptism of Fire Cup, as far as a rank modifier, all nations will be starting out on level playing ground, but can gain additional bonus based on their RP. In Season Two, a Rank modifier will be introduced, based on the overall Nation/Team standings, which will be determined based on the performance of a nations surfers at any given event. It is most likely that the national standings will simply be the accumulation of a nations best run from amongst its surfers in each run of an event.

In the long run, it will be the national standings, and not the individual ones, that will determine rankings for future tours, but the individual standings is where the most pride will be wonon a seasonal basis.




How to Enter:

You are restricted to Two Individual Entries - That is you may submit two surfers to this competition. However, If You have Proof - IE: An official regional map (Which you should link to in your sign up if you are Not an AO member) That you are a coastal nation with approximately 20-40% or greater (At the discretion of the hosts) of your borders being open coastline, then you may submit Three Surfers for your nation (If you think you may be borderline for a third surfer, please make sure the first two are the ones you definately want in the tour). Additionally, if you plan to RP with multiple nations, you can signup with a puppet nation, as there is no cap on the total number of surfers in the tournament. But again, please do not sign up a nation that you really don't have an interest in the results for.

There are 4 main skills, and you have 100 total points to allocate with.

- Balance
- Consistency
- Eccentricity
- Technical

Each event on the tour may or may not bring out a certain skill, such as choppy waters are rainy conditions may bring a higher dependancy on a players balance. These events will not be announced in advance (to add realism like changing weather), however these factors will be mentioned along with the scores for a particular event.

Note: If you submit a Surfer with a total attribute allocation that exceeds 100 points, the hosts will simply take attributes off where they see fit until the surfer's attributes are down to a total of 90 points (a penalty for not counting.) So please be sure the attributes add up to 100. Don't try to add them up to 101 and think I won't notice, because I have it written into the script of the scorinator in big red font if it does. :)

Anacaona was born in the Ohuican Chaneque Cu', or Sacred Spirit Rainforest, to the Mucaro Tribe of Edoniakistanbabweagua. He spent most of her life in this inland paradise until at the agae of 16 when she moved to the city of Tiburon. There she learned to surf and swim from some of the masters. She is also an avid player of Batey, similar to football and soccer in its gameplay and roughness, and cometes in the annual Xochiyaoyotl (Flower Wars, similar to Superbowl). She is kind but competative

Caonabo' was born in Los Barrios Rojo, one of the worst towns in Edoniakistanbabweagua, known for the main gang that owns the area. At the age of 5, he ran away to San Acero, Puerto Malo to try and find a new life there. What he found was a massive, corrupt city filled with the worst criminals, gangs, and cops. Living in the Asiaton District, he began learning to surf from a man named Mestre Lusca from Maui, Hawaii. Lusca taught Caonabo' how to surf in the treacherous waters of Puerto Malo and also the martial art of Capoeira, both helping him in balance and technique. After Lusca was killed in a shootout, Caonabo' took his mestre's name as a nickname and competes in surfing competitions as well as Batizados. He is quiet and calm and somewhat distrustful to foreigners

However, she has been an anathema to the KBI surfing establishment, with rash outbursts, a refusal to participate in the traditional pre-surfing ceremonies, and her flippant attitude towards the KBI surf authority. She has a huge following, is extremely attractive and photogenic, and is considered to be one of the best natural surfers in the Kingdom.

The Crosaibi Coast Invitational has just been completed (Along with the new entrants from Funnia Lan, Casari and Reanimated States.

There is still plenty of room for new signups so don't be afraid to join in the fun. As you can see the top surfers are earning some 6-7 points so its very easy to catch up if you have one or two big events.

Oh, why not - even if my surfer gets smashed on coral and eaten by sharks!

The Final event of the First Half of the tour is down to its last 16 competitors, and will soon be coming to a close, ending the first half of the Inagural Surfing Tour. There will be a brief hiatus in the surfing to accomodate fans from all around the world to attend the NationStates World Cup, also being held in Vilita, and then the Surfing will resume with the tour's second half.

Teams will benefit in some ways from their performances in the first half, but in other ways, the slates will be wiped clean. First Half champions will be crowned, and those points will continue to be expanded on for the overall champion, but There will additionally be a Second-Half only champion to be crowned based solely on performance on the second half of the tour.

Nations who have participated in the First Half of the tour will automatically be invited back for the second half of the tour, and should notify officials if their surfers which to withdraw.

Additionally The tour will be accepting all signups at this point from nations that wish to participate in the second half of the Surf Tour, starting on level ground with their competition in the race for the second half tour champions.

RP = post. You want it to be more like a story then a statement. Tell us about your surfers, what they did back in Dumania, what things happened to them when they travelled from Dumania to Vilita for the surfing tour, why they like surfing, what they do in their free time. Just read some of the other posts in the thread for some ideas perhaps. You'll want to get a couple of paragraphs into your posts and take pride in them. Eventually, you'll be getting points towards improving your players based on the quality of the posts you provide, so it is worth it to take a few minutes to write a more well thought out post then just a quick one line statement in multiple colors.

Thats a good start, but a few suggestions

1) You'll want to post it HERE in the RP Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=499401), not the sign up thread.
2) You'll probably want to avoid using references to real life companies such as billabong and volcom. Perhaps create your own companies that have to do with local surfing in dumania, tell us about those companies and tell us about how surfing is competed on a local level in dumania
3) you'll probably want to avoid using all capital letters all the time.
