What's the general storyline?
I'm not entirely sure if I'm reading it right, but it seems like a group of (Rebels, colonists, criminals, religious/social/political whathaveyous) fled thier homeworld, then made another stop before landing on a desert-type planet, and they have finally found a 'star-gate' that will let them return to the homeworld/the other planet.

What are you looking for in participants(beside the usuals of grammer, spelling, being available to post at least X# of times in X period of time)?

Gah... NSwiki is down again.

Okay. What you've just read is basically the "brochure version" of my nation's history. The sandy planet is, in fact, an Earth desert. The "gate" was not found, but built, after eighty years of research.

The thread would begin with the various representatives from nations showing up, and the opening of the portal. Then it gets interesting...

Hrmm. Seems like NSwiki is up again. This page (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Khrrck) might be of use, but it's VERY old and its quality is always annoying me. (I keep meaning to rebuild it)

As for the sort of person I want in a RP... Bearable grammar and spelling. The occasional mistake is not a big deal, but constant misspellings and bad grammar can really ruin a RP. Believable RP - I don't care if your nation is MT, PMT, FT, or Jell-O beings from Neptune as long as you can be sensible and believable in your writing.

And ABSOLUTELY NO GODMODDING. (Not that I should have to tell you).

Edit: At least one post a week would be nice, although not ABSOLUTELY necessary. I hate to see threads die.

Alright, that all makes sense.
Three additional questions:
1. Any objection to magi-tech nations, or those who utilize magic. Providing it is resonably done of course. For example, a nation inwhich magic is scientific. Examples are the Lord Darcy series by Randall Garrett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Darcy_%28fiction%29) or The Case of the Toxic Spelldump by Harry Turtledove. The Case of the Toxic Spell Dump (1993) - EPA agent David Fisher battles displaced magical powers in a very creative sorcerous equivalent to late-20th-century Los Angeles. He follows the evidence to a toxic spell dump, where dangerous remnants of industrial sorcery are stored.

2. What tech-level is Khrrck?

3. Would the other nations be invited to the 'flipping of the switch' or have to find out another way and request a chance to be there?
Nation of Fortune

I'd be interestedish. I don't have any good examples of my RP style that are recent. My style is a bit more militaryish, rougish sort of characters. Characters that feel more at home with bullets flying than a diplomatic situation.Theao can vouch for me, if he feels I have a good RP style. I won't be insulted if he thinks I'm utter crap. I've been pretty busy lately, but I should easily be able to manage one post a week until I leave in September, from which I will be gone until December. I feel my grammer can meet your standards.

I'm only waiting for your approval.
Khrrck
03-08-2006, 04:17
1. Perfectly all right. I'm something of a magitech nation, after all, and this RP... well, you'll see.
2. Somewhere between MT, PMT, and scientific magitech. I have a thread somewhere (grr... damn Jolt) that should give you a good idea of Khrrck's techlevel.
3. All participants in the RP will be assumed to have recieved the invitation at the beginning of the IC thread.

So Theao: you're cleared to join, if you want to. A quick voucher for Nation of Fortune would be nice.

Quick question, is there a method for arriving at the complex/area, for those who don't have planes?
Preferably something either train(steam type) or stagecoachy. If not, then will charter a plane but you'll have some delegates who are nervous.
Khrrck

Since Khrrck is almost entirely desert, the blowing sand tends to severely obstruct most forms of transportation. Rail lines and roads tend to get covered up by sand every few days, requiring regular clearing. The two major methods of transportation are via the tunnel network (which doesn't extend outside Khrrck's borders) and via landcrawler transports, which can take up to two weeks to make it to the relatively central Mage's Guild from the border.

So yes, basically air is your only option. I apologize to your diplomats.

I'm interested too, but unfortunately, me and Balanite are in the same boat. We have both signed up to the same two RP's, which both died because their respective thread creater's vanished, so unfortunately, there isn't much rping to go on there.

I have been in a third one, but thats going a bit slowly, again, nothing really significant there.

Most of my posts have come from Clash of the Gods (OOC) thread where i am the "Chronicler" i read through it when it was 60 pages or thereabout and followed it along since, i don't have a character in it, but i have covered for Blastit a few times while he's been away. Again, nothing big.

Well here's what we'll do then, I'll create a scenario and you respond to it as you would if you were participating in an RP.

*Scenario*
You are a traveler that has wandered into Nation of Fortune. As you walk through Madras City, you see four soldiers hunting a child, aged about three or four, down the streets. The child has just ran into a dead end alley, and you are standing across the street.

I'll give it a go;

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Kail watched the scene unfolding before him with interest, trying to fathom why soldiers would be chasing such a young child, no obvious reason came to mind.

He was reluctant to get involved, but curiosity got the better of him. Using the hood of his brown travelling cloak to hide his features he crossed the raod and followed the child into the alley. He did not approach the child, but instead leant against one of the walls and waited. He planned to watch at first, hoping that he could discover the reason for this event, but, if things became violent he would step in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't entirely sure what you wanted, and without knowing a few more details i didn't really want to do too much, e.g. whether the guards are armed, are the streets were crowded or empty, how far away the guards are, i would have written something differant for each. But i gave it a go.
Nation of Fortune
09-08-2006, 18:27
You are right, I was a bit vague, but I was kinda making it in a hurry. The soldiers would be armed, the soldiers would be about half a block behind, and just about at any given time the streets are empty.

You can rewrite it again if you want, but in the end all say all, I'm not the one who decides if you join, so my opinion has little foothold.

Let me try a bit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sound of boots stepping on gravel rapidly alerted the traveller. Soldiers stalking a child through the empty streets, their weapons shone in the light.

The hooded man turned around back the way he came, his pace a lot quicker. He breathed life back onto his hands and, ignoring the chase behind him, shoved his hands back into the warmth of his coat pockets.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm a bit too descriptive in my previous RPs, I have the tendency to add to the background scene if I wasn't clear on it, and I have a slight grammer problem involving past and present tenses.

I use Word most of the time, unless in OOC. I like to edit my posts if I happen to make a mistake.

*Scenario*
You are a traveler that has wandered into Nation of Fortune. As you walk through Madras City, you see four soldiers hunting a child, aged about three or four, down the streets. The child has just ran into a dead end alley, and you are standing across the street.

OOC: And I'll see what I can do with this, provided there's still room for me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There he goes! Grab him!"

The shouts were the first thing that caught his attention, prompting a turn to face the commotion. A group of armed soldiers were charging after a child of barely ten, who made a sharp left into an alleyway, which he already knew was a dead end. That sort of information was easy to come by when one was standing across the street. The kid didn't seem to have a clue, however, and was soon beating the wall in a mix of frustration and despair.

The soldiers drew ever closer, but were far enough away from him to allow a discreet press-check of the forty-five automatic in his waistband, hidden beneath his loose t-shirt and under the thick denim jacket. He slid the weapon around to the small of his back after confirming that there was a round in the chamber. The automatic, a new Springfield XD Tactical 5-inch in two-tone stainless steel and black polymer, held thirteen in the magazine and one in the chamber, plenty of firepower to bring to bear on a group of four unsuspecting soldiers should it come down to it...

"Goddammit, we lost him..."

One of the subordinate soldiers pointed in his direction...

"Hey you! Where'd that kid go?"

The traveller gave the group a surprised look...

"Who, me?"

They were not amused...

"Yeah you, dumbass! Where'd the kid go?"

While he didn't take kindly to being insulted, he was out-gunned massively...

"What'd he do?"

The lead trooper stepped forward, anger flaring in his eyes...

"That's none of your damn business..."

The traveller didn't respond, he simply angled his neck a few degrees to pop out a kink, grimacing slightly at the stink of liquor on the breath of the squad leader...

"Screw him, we'll find him ourselves..."

They turned, heading towards the alley where the kid was hiding. It was then that he made his move. The XD levelled out smoothly, perfectly balanced as a fighting pistol. He had little regard for laws of any sort, and no respect for those who didn't show him the same. His first shot caught the nearest soldier in the back of the neck, the report of the weapon reinforced by the inertia of the heavy slide cycling backwards and forwards. He managed the recoil well, which was somewhat greater than on a steel-framed 1911, bringing the long sight radius around for the second soldier. The thundering boom of the .45 was the last thing to reach his ears, a split-second before the Winchester Black Talon caught him in the larynx, spattering his two remaining comrades with blood and soft tissue as the barbed petals on the nose of the round tore through his neck like a diamond-edged drill.

The sights realigned on the third man's face, between the white-dot high visibility rear notch and the front blade centered in his face. He'd have to act quickly now, the fourth man was bringing his rifle up to his shoulder. The third shot caught the third man in the left eye before swinging the weapon around and snapping two quick rounds off at the last man's head, the only unarmored place on the body. The first caught him below his right eye socket, the second went though his cheek as the first angled his head away from the shooter, sending the Black Talon through his mouth and into his brain stem, which effectively killed him from the waist down. Still, he managed to get a wild burst off before the first round struck him.

Most of the rounds ricocheted off of the building behind the traveller, but one grazed his right arm, a second blew through the left side of his abdomen. Luckily, it was a clean hit. Still, there might be fragments to worry about. Either way he'd need medical attention as soon as possible...

"Get outta here, kid..."

The kid, a blond-headed boy, started at him from the mouth of the alley, with a look of sheer terror on his young face...

"Get outta here!"

The child seemed startled, then ran off down the street. The traveller turned in the opposite direction after collecting his ejected brass, stumbling off towards the border, an unknown distance away. He hoped he'd made the right decision...
