Daishi, Adoki
Akahito and Ai Chiba were nervous in the back of the taxi. They had been out of town for a couple days for the first time since they had welcomed Niles Gardiner and his friends into their home. Simply but compassionate people, the Chibas had felt it was the only hospitable thing to do after seeing the situation the unfortunate foreigners were in and knowing it was unlikely anyone else in Daishi would offer much help. Still, they felt odd having visitors in their home while they themselves had been away. "I am certain everything will be alright." Akahito said, although neither he nor his wife had actually said aloud that they were worried it wouldn't be.
The largely mountainous Adoki countryside had now given way to the streets of Daishi, a traditional town where most of the buildings featured heavily the ancient, wood-based architecture of Adoki. The streets seemed to be filled with traffic today. The main street passed the market, where vendors sold their crops to the townspeople. Although there was a more modern indoor supermarket, many people, especially older people, continued to come instead to the market every week. Daishi was the kind of town people from the cities and from foreign lands tended to romanticize.
And then the traffic seemed to come to a stop. Akahito shited in his seat after a few moments, opening the door and stepping out to see what was the matter. Up ahead, a lot of the cars seemed to be emptying and two policement were coming down the line of stopped traffic towards him. "Excuse me, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the vehicle and evacuate the area on foot. We have an emergency situation."
