The Archregimancy / Alasdair I Frosticus CoH bid thread

I realise that I've already posted the below in the WC discussion thread (on page 401, if you're desperately curious).

However, to avoid it getting buried and lost in that ever-expanding thread, I've given it a thread of its own here for easy reference.

Apologies anyone fussed by this sort of double posting.

Anyway......

ARCHREGIMANCY / HOLY EMPIRE [Alasdair I Frosticus] CoH BID

Following the failure of The Archregimancy to qualify for the World Cup, the Monastic Football Association and the Holy Empire Football Association hereby officially announce their intent to host the next Cup of Harmony in the Dreamed Realm.

Venue -

The Cup of Harmony will be hosted in a special Dream Bubble inside the Dreamed Realm where participant nations will be able to create their own reality for the duration of each match so long as these rules are followed:

1 - The created reality must permit at least 10,000 spectators from each nation to watch the match

2 - No harm must be caused to spectators (unless expressly agreed upon by both teams prior to a match)

3 - No harm must be caused to match officials

4 - The Laws of Football are obeyed

[ooc 5 - the RP requests of each nation _must_ be followed. If your opponent refuses to grant you permission to harm, kill, or otherwise godmod events to his players, you must abide by that request]

Otherwise the participants are free to hold matches under whatever conditions they desire. A match held somewhere inbetween the British and German trenches, Christmas 1914? Why not! A match held between players temporarily taking the form of Greek Gods playing on Mount Olympus? A team of elves accompanied to the pitch by unicorns? Why not! A match played backwards in time? Why not! A perfectly ordinary football match taking place in a replica of your stadium of choice? Why not! A match involving green-skinned anthropomorphic vegetables? Oh, hang on, that's been done....

Finally, any matches involving Giant Zucchini will feature the AIF home element in the crowd waving zucchinis in the air [in a nod to an ancient AIF / GZ RP]

Accommodation will be provided in a series of luxury 5 star hotels, one for each participating nation, specially dreamed into existence for the duration of the tournament. Teams preferring alternative accommodation may change their accommodation reality accordingly.

Note that the Dream Bubble - over the vehement protests of the MFA - will be resolutely secular, with no official religion.

[OOC detail - where teams have not agreed to the nature of match reality beforehand, the team that posts first will create reality for a match]

Participants -

Invitations will only be issued to those nations that posted at least one RP to the WC 29 RP thread. If this becomes an issue, preference will be given to RP quality over RP quantity - this is unavoidably a subjective judgement, but teams who posted a small quantity of excellent RPs (like Tessan) will have priority over teams who posted little more than squad sheets, however frequently.

The maximum number of participants will be 40; I've done a quick scan of eligible participants based on Casari's final group tables, and this is roughly in keeping with the upper limit of eligible participants expected to confirm entry if invited.

Scorinator -

A very slightly tweaked version of the WC 28 / WC 25 scorinator will be used; (TG me if details desired).

More emphasis will also be given to the RP bonus to encourage creative use of the unique properties of the Dream Bubble.

I realise that this is a slightly unorthodox (no pun intended) bid as regards the venue, but as the CoH is designed to reward RP'ing 'best of the rest' teams, I very much hope it will provide entertaining scope for the NS WC community's less fortunate RPers.

2 - No harm must be caused to spectators (unless expressly agreed upon by both teams prior to a match)

3 - No harm must be caused to match officials

4 - The Laws of Football are obeyed

I've already got a problem with these three...

Harming bystanders and match officials is what I RP for!:p

And The Team doesn't know the laws of footie...

Not a problem.

I'm sure you can harm your own supporters to your heart's content. I put that in to stop people taking advantage of the flexible nature of reality by wilfully killing opposing supporters without that opponent's consent. Just pay attention to your opponents' roster post RP instructions - that's usually a good guide as to whether they consent to death or not. I'm not saying you can't - just that you should check first.

Match officials are trickier - but I'm sure I'd be tempted to turn a blind eye if it's done with flair, style, and is consistent IC

In terms of the laws of football, that rule's in to stop people getting too carried away by turning a match into something other than football (for example, by turning their football match into a baseball game or the Battle of Stalingrad). I'm sure it's understood that the Raging Penguins' grasp of the rules is tenuous, and any infractions within the context of a football match are consistent RP.

Also, remember that the first few rules are _in-character_ rules. Infractions won't cause anyone to be sanctioned and/or ejected - they'll be dealt with in-character. However, as the person who controls the Dreamed Realm, I reserve the right to step in if things start to get out of hand at some point. I want to encourage people to use their imagination, not to encourage mindless anarchy.

The important thing is you don't do anything your opponent doesn't agree to - which is what the OOC rule is for.

Assuming this means you're no longer boycotting the CoH.... Of course you can. For all I care, you can replace your entire starting XI with anthropomorphic footballing black oxen.

As said in the other thread ... Excellent bid, with definitely good chances for some truly great RPing. Got my vote.

((Well, my general rule is that any level of godmoding with my team, my players, etc. '=is fine with me, so long as it is done in good humor and not as some sort of e-peen contest. As your posts have been some of the few I've bothered to read during the Cup (I tend to skip the boring normal ones and the endless streams of numbers) and have certainly gotten more than a chuckle out of, I can certainly say that you're welcome to do whatever you wish should our teams meet!

As for the bid itself, looks good to me. I especially am enamored of the decision to give us our own fractal reality. I think I'll try to recreate the SUPERCUP! champion Ians (yes, SUPERCUP! is always spelled in all capitals with an exclamation mark, at least in Iansisle) of the WCX era. Probably in black and white with a cheesy silent-movie soundtrack and giant placards whenever I need any dialogue.

(JAY: 'I say, Samuel, I do believe that nefarious cad has taken the football away from the Ians!'

SAM: 'But of course, Jay! If only the Ians were near as talented as the Tigers, they would perchance not be in this rotten fix!'

JAY: 'Why you perfidious mountebank!'

*scene of Jay smacking Sam in the face with a pie*

JAY and SAM: 'Ha! ha! ha!'

...or something to that effect >.>)

ANYWAY, the actual purpose of this suddenly-rambling post was to give my official nod of approval to the bid (for however little it's worth) and to confirm Iansisle's willingness to participate, if you'll have us.))

Ah, thank you for clarifying that...
I like this much more now!

I'm going to be damn boring :

- Will the groups be seeded? If yes, what will be the basis of seeding? (All 3rds in groups seeded, or highest KPBs seeded?)

- Clarification on the questions of playoffs for 3rd in group teams?

- Home and away in group stages? In knockout stages? Whole cup single match?

- Free cookies?

not putting words in the monks mouth but based on the past CoHs i'd guess

1) groups would be set up/seeded in the same manner WC groups are made up so every group has a similar assortment of rankings

2) probably just top two move on

3) since in theory CoH and WC are supposed to end close to each other i'd say only one match with each team in the group on neutral dimensional space created by the monks.

4) monks fast a lot so i bet the cookie supply will be low :(

my own question to toss in

5) what range for the style modifers?

No cookies? I'm outta here!

I wonder why the seeding is by KPB ranking though, because IMO it's only fair that teams who RPed their ass off to be in the top 4 of their group when they would have been a lot lower get a chance to win their group.

Why have exactly the same modus operandi as the WC Proper, since it's meant to be an "underdogs" final...

Hell, why not an "unseeded" draw? It would make things a lot more interesting!

(But I'm happy with the KPB-ordered seeding too.)

This really interesting. And, since the MFA's bid to have the CoH held in The Archregimancy and Alasdair I Frosticus has been approved (in other words, CoH will be in Archregimancy), I'm looking forward to this CoH. :)

I guess I'll RP my players and die-hard Valerian football fans amidst an ancient battle or something when they 'host' a game in the Dream Bubble. :p

I like this Idea... as i finsished 3rd in my group again...third place= 1 seed for groups!!!!! also when is the CoH gonna start???

Also my (IC) investigation into why Qazox didn't qualify for the WC will begin and i hopefully will have it last well into WC 30 (so pay attention...lol)

Imminently.

I'm just drawing up the list of invitees, etc now.

Expect the sign-up thread in the next couple of hours.

In answer to other questions...

Groups will be seeded according to KPB ranks

The number qualifying from each group (and the nature of playoffs, if any) will depend on the size of each group - which will depend on the number of participating nations and cannot therefore be predicted in advance.

Style modifiers are being abolished for this tournament as a factor in scorination; you can still list them, but they will only be an RP guide.

There will be cookies as the Holy Empire is friendlier towards cookies than the Archregimancy
