OOC: With the offical announcement of Pluto having two new moons, I felt this was appropriate.

"Thats one small step for man..one giant leap for the Republic..." Pluto and Charon had been colonized by the Federal Republic hundreds of years ago. Last Hope Naval Station held and entire fleet of warships, was the transit point for thousands of marines and sailors between the solar system and points beyond. On the surface of both Charona and Pluto were intricate systems of surface to space defenses, research facilites, listening posts, even recreational facilities built underground. Nix and Hydra were known moons to the Republic but no steps had ever been made to land troops on them much less probes. But space was precious, and the Federal Republic had liked to keep its exclusion zone around the Pluto-Charon area..it only made sense to land troops and claim two new bodies close to Pluto.
Thus transports were deployed from Last Hope, four in all, each carrying a division of soldiers in their cargoholds, they were part of the engineering units which had traced their history to establishing multiple off terra installations, from the Martian domed city of New Detriot, to carving the Nomad Moon Research facility on Charon. Armmed not only with weapons but with earth moving materials, blasting gear, even small yield nuclear charges for the tougher spots. The divisions were going to build landing pads for transports and long range strike bombers to be based on. Hydra was given the name Guadalcanal Canal, while Nix was codenamed Rabaul, both historic airfields in earths distant past. Of course they would be used for more than just regular military bases, they would be training facilities as well. Every five years a mock war between two fictional nations was held, with Pluto as one empire and Charon being the opposing Empire..Nix and Hydra just added another dynamic to that wargame.
Pluto, Charon, Hydra and Nix were never considered to be habitable by regular people. It had been codified into law back in the Federal Republic that no regular citizen without business on the planet and its moons could not step foot on their soil under penalty of death. Smugglers shyed away, nosey nations were shadowed by the Charon Defense Fleet and her dozens of destroyers and cruisers. Many other people had their corner of the universe, that was nice, but the Federal Republic had its own corner of the solar system and it wasnt in the sharing mood at the moment.
