[NS]Katinooth

Standing at the balcony, staring out over the metropolis of Katinigia, the capitol of the kingdom, Marqus’ blue eyes were distant. It had been a year now since the last legitimate king had ruled here. A line broken by infertility and a military coupe. Sure the rumors circulated as to the cause of the infertility: the king was gay, drugs slipped to him by traitor servants. But all that ended with the coupe. A coupe he had only secretly financed and supported. Nothing more than a brilliant businessman with the title of Marquis, he had resisted The General’s insistence that he take over as the ruler. So there were “elections” in which everyone voted between Marquis Marqus da Phontocules and some poor lieutenant they stuck up there as “opposition.” An expected landslide victory and now…..and now, a palace full of uniforms, and nobody to talk to.

He returned into the grand bedroom and marveled at the opulence. This was part of the reason he had funded the coupe. Royal spending of the people’s money, horrific taxes that cut into his profits. Profits he had worked long and hard for since his title didn’t bring money with it. It was a title, inherited from a father who was more drunk than sober and a mother who found salve for her loneliness in the arms of other men. If it weren’t for the sharp jaw-line and piercing blue eyes that match his father’s, he might wonder which of his mother’s lovers sired him. Now it didn’t matter. He was “king.” Elected King. The irony bit through him like a cold wind despite the summer temperatures.

Marqus turned off the light, climbed into the enormous bed and lay staring at the canopy. The general said something about setting up a diplomatic gathering. “Getting to know other leaders of other countries. Influential leaders.” He had grinned knowingly at Marqus after that. While they had never been isolated, trade was a big issue for Marqus. He wanted looser laws to further his business goals. The royal family had always been wary of outsiders. Of course they had ruled for almost two centuries and paranoia began to creep in with every successive ruler. The laws were now in his favor but instead of amassing fortune, he was forced into politics.

Why? Sure The General wasn’t a good looking man but he made most of the decisions. Marqus had long felt that the only reason The General talked to him was so that he could use the political clout of an idea “coming from the King.” Posh. And who in the heck was he suppose to invite to a “diplomatic gathering” anyway?? An odd thought occurred to Marqus as he faded into sleep…..his life was beginning to have too many quotation marks.

As he slept, invitations were sent to countries far and wide, inviting dignitaries, leaders, and ambassadors to a peaceful party on behalf of the King of Katinooth. While Katinooth does have a busy harbor, guests are encourage to arrive by plane so that they can be properly greeted and shuttled to the palace where a meet and mingle will be held in the courtyard. Guests requiring overnight accommodations will be provided them. Ample security is in place, however if the representative is still hesitant, one member of security staff may join them.

OOC: Any who come looking for a fight will be dealt with either by being ignored or quickly and efficiently subdued and ejected by the ever present yet mostly unseen military security. I encourage all other posters to ignore those who come in guns blazing or special powers on high alert. While I am accepting of the fact that NS has gone to space, these invites are sent only to earth-bound countries. Also they are only sent to countries of sufficient technology to have planes. I respect your right to have dragons or to still be stuck in the middle ages but Katinooth is very pro-business and not-so-subtley pro-military and so the invites will go to those suitable to expand our corporate and weapons goals. Thank you.
