Okay, a school called Stonerock Isle Acadamy of Sorcery is being opened up in the former Omnik Empire. Basically it's a Hogwarts-ish school for spellcasters. Anyone who wants to join may do so, and while I would preffer students, you can sign up as anyone else if you want to. The school will have a few hundred students, most of whom will come from the Omnik Empire and will be controled by me. Only one or two of those will be likely to do much interesting, however.

For those of you too lazy to come up with your own, here is a template for character sign-up:

Appearence / Physical Description:

Avariel are graceful and striking, standing as tall as most humans, though they appear even more fine-boned than their landborn elven kin. Their features are more chiseled, more angular, their eyes larger, and golden, azure, emerald, or rich hazel. The hollow bones that enable them to fly make them frail, though their chests and shoulders are strong, powering their magnificent eagles' wings. Their plumage is usually the purest of whites,
though blacks and greys are known, and their hair is white, black, or more rarely, gold or silver. Like other elves, they have no facial or body hair. They prefer simple, loose clothing that does not impede their wings, usually in pale white, grey, or silver. Avariel have shorter lifespans than those of other elves, reaching majority at 50, and seldom living beyond the age of 300. Like other elves, the avariel do not sleep,instead entering meditative trance for 4 hours per day.

Age: 45 ( Avariel equilant to Human 15 )

Gender: Female

Race: Avariel / Winged Elf
Rarest of the elven races, the avariel, the winged elves, live a reclusive existence, seldom seen by outsiders. Such is their scarcity and seclusion, that their status is almost that of legend, and many believe tales of these winged elves to be little more than myth and wild fancy.

Alignment:
Like other elves, the avariel value freedom, and lean towards the gentler aspects of chaos, and although not quite as deeply respectful of all life as their ground-dwelling kin, are still good more often than not.

Place of Origin: Aerie of the Snow Eagles, a Crystal Citadel hidden atop one of the most remote peaks in the Icerim Mountains of distant Sossel,
Faerun.
Avariel Lands:
Avariel settlements are rare, located in secluded and inaccessible mountains, their many towers carved into the rock faces and plateaus, resplendent with many windows, perches, and balconies. Their societies are commonly composed entirely of avariel dedicated to one of two paths of life: the path of the warrior, or the path of the aesthete, though a rare few settlements compose members of both paths. The warriors are not all combatants, as might be inferred, though many are, but all follow the philosophy of action, of doing. Aesthetes are the thinkers, those inclined to study, magic, art, music, and philosophy. There is no animosity between followers of the different paths, both of whom have long lineages, and they each support and respect the other to the best of their abilities. Avariel seldom trade with outsiders other than other elves, obtaining from them the rare metal implements that they themselves do not use. Avariel craftsmanship utilizes glass, crystal, obsidian, and stone almost exclusively, even in the construction of weapons, and gems and semiprecious stones are used for currency. Those rare avariel encountered beyond their mountain dwellings are usually those seeking
escape from pity due to their inability to fly, or the rare avariel gripped by an
overpowering wanderlust.

Avariel Racial Traits:

· +4 Dexterity, -4 Constitution: Avariel are extremely light and graceful but their hollow bones make them painfully frail.

· Medium-size: As Medium-size creatures, avariel have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.

· Avariel base speed is 25 feet. They can fly at a speed of 45 feet (average). Avariel cannot fly when wearing Medium or Heavy armor. Custom fitting for armor purchased outside of avariel settlements has a cost equal to half the value of the armor itself.

· Low-light Vision: Avariel can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.

· Proficient with either longsword or rapier; proficient with bolas and lasso. Avariel find that the muscles they use to fly, oppose those used to fire ordinary bows.

· +4 racial bonus to Spot checks; +2 racial bonus to Listen and Search checks. An avariel's vision is akin to that of a giant eagle, able to discern details on objects up to a mile away.

· Avariel may take the Flyby Attack feat (see page 11 of the Monster Manual) as a General feat; this is not a free bonus feat.

· Claustrophobia: whenever an avariel finds herself enclosed in a small area for any significant length of time, she must make a Will save (DC 13) or become panicked (-2 morale penalty on all actions; can become aggressive). Saves are made every day. The panic subsides when the character is brought out into the open air.

· Avariel find their wings an impediment to motion when on the ground, suffering a -2 attack penalty and -2 AC penalty as a result. These penalties can be negated if the avariel takes the Ground Combat feat (see below).

· Automatic Languages: Common and elven. Bonus Languages: Auran, Avariel Sign, Draconic, Dwarven, Giant, Goblin, Orc. Avariel commonly know the languages of their enemies and allies, as well as Draconic, the language commonly found in ancient tomes of secret knowledge. They have developed a form of silent communication somewhat similar to the drow sign language.

· Favored Class: Avariel of the warriors' way have Fighter as their favored class. Avariel of the aesthetes' way have Wizard as their favored class. A multiclass avariel's fighter/wizard class does not count when determining whether she suffers an XP penalty for multiclassing.

· Level Adjustment: +1. Although no more powerful or weak than most other elven subraces,the avariel's ability to fly is an extremely useful ability.

Her Familiar: A Giant Eagle named Aerie.

Langauges: Common, Auran, Sylvan & Elven ( All Spoken & Sign Language ) .... The avariel speak the same lilting and fluid language as other elves, and some have even devised an intricate sign language based upon this tongue. Some avariel consider it a source of pride to learn and speak Auran, the language of all avian creatures, and a rare few learn a scattering of the languages utilized by those races dwelling in proximity to them.

Religion:
The avariel are a deeply religious people, but they owe their greatest loyalty, not to Corellon Larethian, but Aerdrie Faenya, the winged elven goddess of the air, the weather, and avians. Although their true origins are a mystery, the avariel hold that it is her intervention that enables them to survive, and that they are her favored children. Some avariel even belief that they were the original elven race, though many more of their sages speculate that Aerdrie Faenya's hand melded them with their beloved giant eagles.

No, *sigh* I'll get back to you on the map thing. In the meantime, think a city-state on a lozenge-shaped volcanic island. Only the northern coast of said island has more vegetation than just the occastional sage brush, and those are evergreen forests. The rest is rocky outcroppings and cliffs. There are three major ports; one on the north, one on the southwest, and one on the southeast. The acacademy is near the middle of the island, south of a large observatory on a hill. Near the northern port is the governing hall. Much of the eastern half of the island is a large, dormant volcano called Islebirth Mountain. Near the southwest coast is embassy street.

APPARANT MAGICAL TALENTS: Farjumper seems unusually in tune with the elemental force of earth and can also sense nearby life-forms.

*The Saurians were a proud warrior-race from Sauria until they were invaded by the rampantly-consuming insectiod intellegence known as the Mar'Tak. After a brief and pointless war, only a few Saurians survived. They fled to the Northern Realms, near Omnik, and set up the nation of New Sauria.

Saurians are muscular by nature and capable hunter/gatherers. They are one of the lands four native races, and are keenly attuned to the element of earth.

I might be interested, just 1 question, are any kinds of magic off limits? I would probably have a character that focuses on summoning/conjuration, with a few cold or negative energy spells.

Generally, the schools magic-related classes will focus on things like elemental magic(earth, water, wind, fire), telekenisis, Seeing, and sensing magical energies. If your char could summon up some sort of elemental spirit, that would be fine. The cold/negative energy spells are no problem, either.

PLACE OF ORIGIN: The city of Janni(similar to Sigil of the D&D universe)
APPEARENCE: Long(Knee length unbraided, midback braided) emerald green hair, purple eyes, elongated ears(elven style), a faint glitter to her skin, slightly furred tail, and other than that generally human norm.
APPARENT MAGICAL TALENTS: Fairly basic(for an Ivion), thought much of it would be considered highly estoric by most

* Very little is known about the Ivion is known, outside of a few folkloric tales of dreadful or wonderous beings that travel between dimensions, and are rumoured to even travel the strands of time. It is generally believed that to anger an Ivion is to court death itself, but to get one's friendship is a road to paradise. How much of this is true is unknown as very few get a chance to do either.

ooc: I believe a 6th level mage(in the D&D world) can cast up to third level spells(where there are nine levels in total).

Kormanthor, what exactly does it mean to be a 6th level wizard?

a 6th level wizard would have 3rd level spells, there 10 levels of spells in D&D, level 0 cantrips which are nigh on useless, to level 9 which are the most powerful. 3rd level spells are about the time you start getting decent offensive spells, you have a few useful other spells in level 1 and 2, make some lights, a bit of armor boosting, a few stat increases. You wouldn't have them all since you have a limited amount of spells prepared. But thats what you would be able to prepare in essence.

At 3rd level you get Fireball and maybe Melf's acid arrow. Before that you have a few other elemental attacks, at least a cold or lightning touch attack. Magic missile aswell, thats not exactly elemental, its force. You would also have burning hands by then. I'm not sure about extra spells from the other books. I'm running this off my head and what i remember of the players handbook.

No air or earth attacks. They would be Druids.

There's the other useful things, creating noises, lights.

Thinking up a character, will post it later.

APPEARENCE: Relatively humanoid, somewhat yellow skin, gray eyes. A slightly snake-like look to the face.
APPARENT MAGICAL TALENTS: Untrained telekinesis, needs to practice, some abilitiy to manipulate water into ice and negative energy, can use use his psychic powers to project his awareness out of his body and explore mentally in the area 'near' his body, can't influence things this way, just 'see'. He has professed an interest in learning summoning, but has no true practice in it.

Is dark/evil magic/mages allowed and is their area of magic taught?

That was something Omnik replied to what i said.

Negative energy spells are what i asked about and they tend to be necromantic/evil energy, so that might help you, if me and Omnik were referring to the same thing at least.

I can't say for sure, it would depend on exactly what you meant by black magic, if its just general destuctiveness then any elemnet can be used destructively with a bit of creatvity at least, if its about weakening people, again the same can apply. If not, well i'm not too sure.

Omnik would have to say yay or nay, but it seems your allowed a bit of flexibility as long as it's within reason for a student.

I have probably alerted many of you to this already, but I figured I would make a post reminding everyone. I am leaving tomorrow (June 22nd) morning for a ten day trip where there is absolutely no chance I can use the internet (i.e. there is no internet there). I will be returning the night of July 2nd, but I will most likely be very tired and have a lot of threads to catch up on. I will do my best to catch up on as many as I can, but I won't promise anything. I have to get up early the next day, so I will probably only be on for a couple hours on the 2nd. Furthermore, I will be very busy on the 3rd, so I will most likely only be on for a couple of hours. On the 4th I will be traveling almost all day again. I probably won't be on that night as it is the 4th of July, but hopefully I will be back on the 5th (though I will have unpacking to do for the summer). Oh, and one more thing, often when I get to my summer house, the internet is broken (more literally, the line has been cut and it can take a couple days to get back), however that most likely will not be the case this year.

edit: I was looking forward to this RP. I guess I will have to wait until I get back and hope that it is still alive.

Anyway, I hope to be back on by the 2nd and caught up on the 3rd.

and let me know what you think. Also I attended Origins 2006 last week, where I was able to buy a map making program called Campaign Cartographer
Three. The description of Kormanthor is taken from a map I made of Kormanthor in an RPG setting using that program. The setting is similiar to DND, Lord of the Rings, Etc... I would be glad to try my hand at making you a map of your island. But I would need help in figuring out how to post the file online as I have already tried to upload it to my online picture storage website and failed because the file type wasn't compatible.

I just posted to meet the situation, the meeting happening in the hall and threw in a small hint about backstory if anyone wanted to ask about it whenever.

The description you gave of everything was good, though not really needed, it's personal preferance really. The rest of the characters 'probably' wouldn't know much about your lands, you seem to imply there quite far away. It just doesn't seem to serve a purpose.

As i said though, nothing wrong with it. It seemed well written.

With Omnik seemingly gone though, i can't say whether this will get off the ground.

It is my hope that this thread will find new life, however if not then I may decide to start a new one based on Cassae.

Has anyone sent a TG to Omnik? Omnik hasn't been around on the forums in a while, but Omnik's nation seems to have been active recentely, if Omnik doesn't want to do the story then maybe you could get some idea of Omnik's plans for it at least.

Oh by the way, I am into Blackmoor RPG also. I recently attended Origins 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. While there I purchased a map making program called Campaign Cartographer 3. If you wish I could try to make a map of the island. The only problem is I haven't figured out how to get my maps online.

Just to clarify, it's not me using 'Limbo' as the homeland of the Githzarei, i'm just using what D&D says, their home is in 'The ever changing chaos of Limbo' not exactly the most original name, but sounds like a fun place though, subjective gravity.

Theao, would you mind clarifying what an Ivion is? I've never really heard of them before. I've tried to look it up online, this thread comes up often because of your character thing, but not much else. I'm not sure what you've got it from but looking on line brings up a load of companies with Ivion in the name or people spelling Oblivion weirdly. Just curious really.

I've noticed that a few times. I have an odd tendency to write differant instead of different. Not sure where i got that from.

NAME: Uni Sinclair

PLACE OF ORIGIN: Eric Sinclair's Farmstead (near the Border)
APPEARANCE: Uni has short hair, eyes that glimmer with excitment and something else, and a rather pleasant laugh. Her clothes are a bit worn out, being worn by many others before her. Instead of proper shoes, she wears flip-flops. She wears a yellow backpack with her everywhere she goes. It is hard to tell from her appearance that she is slightly insane/hyperactive.
APPARENT MAGICAL TALENTS: She is talentless in almost all magical arts. She is slowly becoming skilled with anti-magic and currently has an aura she can turn on/off at will which drains magic. (Antimagic being spells used to cripple other magicians) Out of a normal spellbook, she only knows magic missle.
