OOC: ALL YOU NEED TO SIGN UP IS YOUR TEAM NAME & 10 single digit numbers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

OOC: If someone wishes to co-host let me know, else I do want someone willing to at least score my pool if possible - I could do it myself however...

OOC Explanation of how points are scored:
-the random element of course which will account for approx half of the points available
-ability of scoring due to posting a roster
-ability of scoring due to having participated in RWC 6
-ability of scoring due to having participated in RWC 5
-ability of scoring due to RPing prior to your match (the host -meaning my nation - will NOT be given this ability since they should be posting already). :)
-ability of scoring due to having a rank (based on Haraki's ranking system in RWC 6 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11093715&postcount=95)) of more than 20 points more than your opponent

Based on the complaints and suggestions of everyone in RWC 6, I am including the above system in italics. It is quite simple to use. If there are suggestions or requests to weight it heavier one way or another let me know and I can tweak it a bit 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO RWC 7 starting (I currently have it set where it will begin July 5, 2006).

OOC-What's up with the 10 Single Digit Numbers?
PopularFreedom

OOC-What's up with the 10 Single Digit Numbers?

OOC: That information is what I partially use to score your matches (the random factor). I have used it before with success in both rugby and soccer tournaments. Coupled with that is also information on whether you were in RWC5, RWC6, have a rank of 20 points higher than your opponent, whether you have a posted roster, and whether you RP or not.

I use excel to tabulate matches. I use SUM and IF statements whic when coupled with random numbers from both sides gives me results (in this case who scores based on the random event of whether you were higher or lower than your opponent in guessing when entered into the simulation).

If you want this explained in greater length feel free to ask.

OOC-Ok so I'll put mine up but still a bit Confused so is this based off Points accumulated?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Example in excel for the first of the 10 numbers submitted (this would be repeated down each row for the remaining 9 submitted numbers with variations of course on whether A1 was to be greater or lesser than C1 and whether the points gained would be 3,5,or7):

TEAM A vs TEAM B

-cell A1 has TEAM A's number of 1
-cell C1 has TEAM B's number of 8

-cell B1 states '=IF(A1>C1, "7","0")', and cell D1 states '=IF(A1<C1, "7","0")'

due to that cell D1 will gain 7 points (due to 8 being larger than 1)
----------------------------------------------------------------
This random faceoff verses nations happens 5 times - with the first 5 numbers (meaning that a team might be able to gain a maximum of 35 points randomly).

In addition to that the final 5 numbers submitted are used individually in a similiar random IF statement if the team fits the following conditions:
-they posted a roster
-they participated in RWC 6
-they participated in RWC 5
-they RPd between their last match and the current match
-their rank (using the Haraki rank system) is 20 points more than their opponent.

Note they do not have to meet all the above conditions. Their 6th number will be used if they posted a roster, or it will be left blank if they didnt. Their 7th number will be used if they participated in RWC 6, or it will be left blank if they didn't. ...*

* = If a cell is left blank due to the nation not meeting that condition, it means the nation cannot score with that number (they can score with their others however...).

OOC: Do not worry, I tend to give too much detail a lot of times. I explained the scorenator in more detail in RWC 6 Signups here if you ever need further explanation (though do note that the scorenator listed here below only has random #s listed and not the 5 final qualifing points (whether the team posted a roster, ...) which the one used in RWC 7 will have.

OOC:
Just to clarify, Aust was the winner of RWC 4 (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rugby_World_Cup#RWC4), Haraki was the winner of RWC 5 (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rugby_World_Cup#RWC5).

Aust you asked for uniform templates. Two nations (Rorysville and Marceau State) had posted their uniforms earlier in this thread so maybe these links below will help as a template for now?

I don't really understand the whole system to do with scorination. Could we see some examples?

Also, will it be using any rankings other than if your team is 20 points higher than the other? I ask because there's a hell of a lot of points in favour of using a ranking system.

Also, not that there's anything wrong with your system (There's not) but I'm just wondering if anyone would feel more comfortable using the Excel scorinator that I came up with and used to scorinate both RWC5 and RWC6.

In any case, Haraki will sign up with the following numbers.

...

www.geocities.com/gamersfury/2006-05-RIT.xls

The above is one example though it only has the random parts involved. However it shows how in MAIN I enter your numbers then each worksheet with GD... is each gameday where based on random settings the numbers are scored against one another to create a final score. RWC 7 will work similarly though the last 5 numbers will be ALLOWED or not allowed based on whether the team has met the requirements for the row. Meaning for row 6, if they RP...they get their number used so they have a chance to score, else their number is not used in that row so they do not score in that row. If they were in RWC 5, they have a chance to score in row 7...

If you need me to explain it in greater detail let me know, once I close the signups I will have it ready to go (cause then will have all entries in the MAIN worksheet etc) for those who wish to see the final scorenator that will determine how their team does. :)

With your ranking system I know you put a lot of time into it so if you wish me to be more specific or precise with what I enter into mine from yours let me know.

One major issue that other nations noted with your scorenator is that there were huge gaps between those new to RWC and those here since RWC5 in terms of the scores. Especially for those teams returning for RWC 7 from RWC 4 those gaps would be compounded by their absence and they would not do well despite them doing extremely well in prior RWC events.

I have advertised extensively for RWC and therefore hope, like we allowed you to try your system in RWC 5, you will have faith in me to use my tested system that has worked in numerous jolt forum sporting events already, and The Heartland sporting events over the past real life year. I have taken into account certain aspects of your scorenator from RWC 5, and 6, along with allowing those who participated in prior RWC events to still have a chance of doing well (which your scorenator currently does not do). Allow me the chance to again prove my system works well, as we all allowed you to do in RWC5 and RWC6. Thank you. :)

I think I'll come back one more time. Although I have to think of a new coach, the other one was executed after that semifinal loss ;)

((but he's a SuperRugbyCoachingLegend™! ;-) ))

Rugby had always enjoyed somewhat of a niche popularity in Iansisle, particularly among the working-class living in the Daldon Basin, but had largely been ignored by a Sports Office more concerned with maintaining the country's (lack of) footballing prestige and fighting tooth, nail and puck with Inuit and dwarf alike. However, Gregory Penns-McCormick -- who had reassumed the position of Director of Sports, Games, and Recreation following the post-Bradsworth shakeup -- was determined to hide Iansislean reversals in its flagship sports by flailing out in every direction possible. Quite to everyone’s surprise, he found a ready and willing -- and, despite its relatively small size, very noisy! -- fan base to support an Iansislean appearance in the Seventh Rugby World Cup.

So it was that the semiprofessional ‘league’ of athletic clubs, factory teams, and pickup players which comprised the heart of Iansisle’s rugby world sent delegates to Clyfton-on-Daldon to sign an agreement to field a national team. Dubbed, in patriotic zeal, the Iansisle ‘Revolutionaries’ and inspired by the example of close ally Larkinia, the best players were chosen and began to train together in anticipation of leaving for Popular Freedom.

Chinese team info
1 – Roger Lam – Loosehead Prop – New Frontiers
Critisised after the 5th world cup for a rather mediocre scrum, Lam is hanging onto his spot in the Chinese team by the skin of his teeth. Still regarded as one of the best scrummaging props in China, but quite ordinary internationally. On the plus, he is as fast as a winger with good evasive footwork and performs quite well in the rucks and mauls, fitting in well with Coach Graham Hart's game plan.

2 – Derrick Wong – Hooker – Beijing
A solid performer, Wong makes up for his lack of flair and vision and attacking impetus with his high work rate and disciplined, conservative approach to rugby. One of the most consistent performers out of the forwards, and never seems to have a bad game. Good on defence and a very physical player, the big man always makes ground with ball in hand.

3 – Dean Woo – Tighthead Prop – Hong Kong
The best scrummaging player in China, and the only one who has consistently destroyed international opponents at the 5th world cup. A young player at only 23, Woo has huge potential and offers the greatest hope for China's front row in the future. His speed has improved hugely since the 5th world cup.

4 – Jack Lim – Lock – Beijing
An ordinary player in world cup, Lim has shown extraordinary form recently and has been made vice captain of the Bejing club. Has a good jumping game, and has gained experience and rugby intelligience since the last world cup. Quite a strong fellow and has shown glimpses of flair with his passing and running, but so far they are just glimpses.

5 – Kieran En – Lock – Guangdong
A solid performer at the last world cup where he stole many opposition lineouts with his great jumping, En missed the most of domestic season with a foot injury but played with a hungry streak in the last two games, earning a recall.

6 – Ewan Zhang – Blindside Flanker – Guangdong
A powerful and strong runner, Zhang poses a constant threat to opposition defence lines and always makes ground. What he lacks in creativity he makes up for in hard work and discipline. Traditionally an openside flanker for his club game, Hart has the speed to run around opponents. Hart's selection of Zhang is a departure from the use of a bulky blind side suggests a free-ranging attacking mindset.

7 – Coleman Liu – Openside Flanker – New Frontiers
Liu is a defensive specialist, never shying away from tackles and is quite aggressive. New to the chinese squad, Liu has only played 7 games for his club, and his lack of experience may work against him. Almost as fast as a back.

8 – Andrew Hui – Number Eight – China Sevens
The biggest player in the Chinese sevens team, Hui is fast, aggressive, and consistent. Manages to get to loose ball very quickly, an adept scavenger with great vision, and has won many turnovers for the team. There have been some criticisms that he plays off-side, although Hui has never had more than one penalty in a game.

9 – Jason Dao – Halfback – Beijing
Making his debut for China in the 6th World Cup, Dao replaces former halfback Ming after a brilliant season for his club. One of the best passers in the team, Dao also has excellent vision and is able to create gaps in defences. A great evasive runner with good stepping, and an average tackler.

10 – Carl Spencer - first 5/8s - Hong Kong (Captain)
Best No 10 in China and possibly Asia, Spencer has a brilliant all-round game and the good vision. Kicked 85% accuracy in regional rugby, and is known for his evasive running skills. Prefers to run the ball and rarely kicks, but he is very good at tactical kicking. Has excellent passing skills like any No 10, but not the most sturdy defender and was guilty of slipping tackles at the last world cup. Posseses flair and an uncanny ability to fool opposition players with his stepping and passing skills, and break defence lines. Spencer tends to take risky options such as blind passing, but almost all of them have paid off and resulted in outrageous tries.

11 – Jonathan Bayer – Left Wing – Hong Kong
A fairly new arrival to the Chinese rugby team, Bayer is an enormous winger who relies on his speed and power to break defence lines. He favours going through other players and despite his weight of 115kg, he has a 100m sprint time of 11.2s. Not the best under the high ball, but his kicking has improved substantially since the first world cup.

12 – Alan Peng – 2nd 5/8s – Beijing
With Spencer, the two men form a formidable midfield attack. Peng is an excellent defender, making up for any percieved weakness in the rest of the backline. He is a good runner although he tends to employ tactical kicking more. Plays a more defensive style of rugby than Spencer, will kick for touch inside their own 22 and makes less risky choices.

13 – Peter Lee – Outside Centre - Guangdong
Quite a physical player, Lee's strengths are his defensive efforts and ball distribution. He seems to enjoy being tackled, and has caused countless injuries for opposition players. Quite a fast runner.

14 – Mark Chou – Right Wing – Guangdong
A more "traditional" winger than his left wing counterpart, Chou possesses excellent pace, footwork, kicking and catching skills. Has added an element of physicality to his game this year, something missing from many other wingers in the club games.

15 – Jay Chen - Fullback - Taiwan
The fastest backline player, Chen is a good goal kicker and tactical kicker, and one of the best defenders in the world. In addition, his speed, vision and improving footwork means he has the ability to act as a surprise weapon, often appearing "out of nowhere" to score tries. There are some questions over his ball distribution, which has kept him from moving further midfield.

RESERVES

16 - Aaron Jiang - Hooker - Kowloon League
A convert from league, Jiang is a big and strong fellow who is difficult to tackle due to his size, top-end pace and footwork. Has a good throw but his tendency to make errors under pressure has held him back.

17 - Steven Chu - 5/8s, 2nd 5/8s, Winger - Hong Kong
Played two group games for China in the 5th World Cup as a stand in for Spencer, where he showed his potential. A relative newbie at only 20 to the team, Chu has shown good vision and pace, and is expected to improve greatly over the next few years. A good runner and kicker, possesses a good all-round game but does not have Spencer's flair. Plays conservatively.

18 - Aaron Kwok - Fullback, Centre, Winger - Hong Kong
A flexible player who has good footwork, pace, and tactical kicking, hence can play in three positions. Somewhat weak in defence, an area of concern for a prospective fullback.

19 - Michael Chiang - 2nd 5/8s, Winger, Centre - Taiwan
Player of the year from the Taiwan club, Chiang has already represented his country in the under-19s world cup, where he has shown excellent talent. Expected to replace Peng when he retires. Good all-round player, and has shown a preference to kick instead of run.

20 - David Dong - Lock, Flanker, Prop - Shanghai
Captain of the second division Shanghai Club, Dong plays blindside flanker for his club but has the knowledge and ability to produce a decent scrum and has good catching skills. A big and strong player with good acceleration but poor top-end speed, was held back from a starting position for this reason but Coach Graham Hart who favoured a mobile pack.

21 - Stewart Kennedy - Prop - Shanghai
Lack of depth among forwards sorely exposed here. Kennedy made a good showing in the scrum for his club, but has never played even regional competition rugby. A dark horse for the competition, given that Hart seems to be able to spot good talent in bad places.

RPing info
In general, most of the Chinese tries come from the midfield backs, followed by the wings, although Spencer has a degree of unpredictability around him.

Strengths : Speed, kicking.
Weaknesses : Scrum

RP rules: Everything is permitted.

((but he's a SuperRugbyCoachingLegend™! ;-) ))

((Good Point, I think I'll leave him alive but wounded. ;) ))

What? Iansislian Dwarf Tossing? How did I miss this!?

Quite to everyone’s surprise, he found a ready and willing -- and, despite its relatively small size, very noisy! -- fan base to support an Iansislean appearance in the Seventh Rugby World Cup.

((Dear Buddha. ("I'd like a pony, and a plastic rocket...") I've been very good this year, all I ask in addition to a World Cup Victory this time around, is to be placed in the same qualifying group as Iansisle :D Then the smack can flow like water from the hills... ))

Thanks for the TG Popular Freedom, as you already have 16 teams may I plead pressure of work and sit this one out. Just as an aside and if you want to show how the scorinator works you could always have a pre tournament freindly against Silage to show how the system works. Best of luck to all participating Nations.

Greetings,

The nation of PopularFreedom (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom) would be delighted and honoured to host a friendly with your nation. If I may humbly suggest June 18, 2006 at 1 pm in Locke Harbour North at Champions Heaven Stadium (http://img217.echo.cx/img217/2033/lhn1982downtown3dl.png) (the stadium is on the far left of this satellite photo) as the venue for your national squad to face PopularFreedom's RWC7 representatives, the Locke Harbour Dragons (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Locke_Harbour_Dragons).

Please let me know if this is acceptable so we can properly promote the event both here in PopularFreedom and abroad.

Sincerely, Roland Miramik
Ministry of Athletics, PopularFreedom

PS: When arriving in the capital of Locke Harbour, please note that your plane will be arriving in Locke Harbour International which is located in the neighbourhood of Skyview (http://www.geocities.com/pf_ssa/apfm-lhcs-detail.html) (near the top left of the satellite photo, just left of Locke Harbour Northwest), Locke Harbour City State (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Locke_Harbour_City_State). From there you will be transported via the PHS-107 to the PHS-106 which will take you directly to your hotel within Champions Heaven Stadium (http://img394.imageshack.us/my.php?image=20060101phsinlh8vo.jpg). The airport directly east of Champions Heaven Stadium (in Locke Harbour North) is a domestic airport (without customs facilities) in case you are wondering why you will have to travel the additional 10 kilometres from the jurisdiction of Skyview instead of landing right in Locke Harbour North.

RWC 7 RP/ROSTER/SCORES THREAD HERE:

Feel free to arrange exhibition matches with others (OOC: I can RP them for you). If you wish to play a PopularFreedom rugby franchise (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom#Rugby), let me know which (if you want to win for sure then the Brunstone Avalanche (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Brunstone_Avalanche) are your best bets based on their dismal record over their history). :)

OK you've persuaded me if you need another team then the SRFU will oblige. June 18th sounds good for a test game between our nations.

OOC:

-I have now uploaded all random numbers into the scoreinator which is ready to go. If you wish to change your numbers at any time make sure you note it in the RPing thread (not that that will help since each game uses different numbers in each slot for the scoreinator - if you do not understand what this means and are curious feel free to ask)
-Cut off date for signups will be June 27, 2006 at 12:01am eastern daylight savings time.
-if you wish to see the scoreinator, before hand, during, or after let me know and I will post it. Furthermore if you require a better breakdown on scores let me know and I will do it (again all this stuff request in the RP thread cause I may miss it if it is here).

-THOSE WISHING TO SEE THE RANKING SYSTEM USED DURING RWC 6 & RWC 5 can find it here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11093715&postcount=95).

OOC:
no, cause with the scoreinator, it states how many tries you score based on random variables. If you want further details on how this works let me know. :)
