Hey everyone,
This is a sign up/OOC thread for a horror rp I am planning. I’m not going to be having vampires…too many Rps with them in it going on right now…werewolves, mummies, or zombies. This one is going to be leaning towards the supernatural with a dose of H.P. Lovecraft mixed in.
First off before reading any further I should say this. This Rp is set in the real world…so that means no immortal creatures, no magic holders, no monster hunters, Matrix dodging bullet stuff…well, you get the picture. I want to keep it as real as possible, well spare for the supernatural stuff. So, human characters only and none of the ‘concealing an automatic weapon in the suitcase’ stuff. I want to keep it fairly real and believable in terms of characters.
Basic story line is a bus full of people is traveling through Europe and the bus breaks down in a small village with an old castle tucked up in the woods nearby. Course as with all things, strange stuff starts to happen, a green light seen in the castle, old chants, figures walking the walls.
So, this is a bit of a difference than my horror action stuff like Shadows or City of the Dead. Concentrating a bit more suspense and horror with some action too for good measure.
If you interested…feel free to TG me and or post here.
Interested, and are the characters allowed to have concealed weapons on the body/under the clothes?
Oh can I play? and is a pistol & limited ammo tucked in the bottom of a back pack allowed? ( or What Theao Asked )

Let me ask what kind of a character would need to carry a concealed weapon in Europe?
Gangsters on vacation, paranoid 'the truth is out there' types, many americans(apologies to the rest of americans) ect.
GS, if you were a young woman back packing across Europe believe me you'd want a gun. Americans are universally loved, muggers exist in Europe just as much as in America - look up the crime stats - and remember the violence taking place in such 'little known' places like Kosovo, Albania, et al...
It's also 'conventional wisdon that on the whole Europeans dislike tourists more than American's dislike tourists.
Believe me while a small pistol and some bullets aren't going to take on Nato, they can make a wary traveller sleep a lot better at night. ( even if it is all psycological )
and it's not loke Europe is unarmed. Every Swiss male is required by law to keep weapons at his place of residence. Yes Germany has some recently tightened gun laws ( fairly strict ones - ie must be over 25 ) but Eastern Europe is fairly awash in weapons, many being full auto

Can I join? My character would be an American serial killer carrying a butcher knife, duct tape, piano wire, and a few other tools of the trade. He's a Hannibal Lecter, intellectual and deadly, type. Don't worry, I wouldn't be trying to kill off other passengers left and right. After all, serial killers often take a dozen years to kill a handful of people.

This sounds intersting, but I need more info about it first.
LOL - I don't think tha GS wants us to start off knowing more. He's a good GM with a sound knowledge of the horror genre, and has run any number of good rps here.
And a MEEP on your character EBH. Now I definitely want a gun!
and Hannibal is a one of a kind who is so far past the 'norms' of the generic serial killer as to be damn near unique- it would be very interesting to see if some one could play that rare avis - and do it right.

Damn straight Tanaara, I don't like giving out a lot of info about the baddies in the horror stuff. If its a zombie...well...that is a no brainer, but if the creature can be concealed...I try that and they usually don't appear right off....or at least if they do it is referenced and no clear description is given. Amps up the tension...one reason I love horror movies from the old days cause they wait with the creatures like in ALIEN...nowadays it is 'show 'em and scare 'em quick'.
In terms of weaponry, I am split on the issue as I don't want everyone carrying a .357 snub nose in their bags and at first sign of something funny start pulling them out and going bang bang. This does have some action in which the characters will have to defend themselves against the foe but mostly it will concentrate on suspense and hopefully some jumps as they try to work their way outta the castle.
Give me some time to think about it.

I'm interested, can I join? I intended my Ghosts of New Orleans to not be as actiony as it appears, it just happened. You have a good plot which should make for an interesting rp.

Great idea, GS. Here's an idea for my character- Catholic priest traveling to his mother's wake in the town where things begin to go wrong. No weapons, just a crucifix and a Bible. I dunno if the monster or baddy is sensitive to holy stuff, but it'll be a real test of faith regardless.
Alright, if it has any influence, I intended my character to have a 9mm and a .32 auto sub-compact(and a knife).

My character will be unarmed, possibly have a knife. But that should be about it.

My character will be a band member travelling europe trying to get signed. He's carrying an electric guitar.
I was planning on a walther ppk, in 32 - the old style of walther that is in no way a 'hand canon' and I'e would be tucked in the belt pouch. - reachable but in no way quick drawish.
second one on the page, the Leather CTD Gun Runner fanny pack/ holster (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd_images/smprod/44551.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/fannypac_bbib.htm&h=50&w=50&sz=2&tbnid=y1_fcB55IHwpKM:&tbnh=50&tbnw=50&hl=en&start=6&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgun%2Brunner%2Bfanny%2Bpack%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN)
and with as gun as small as a Walther PPK (http://www.cia.gov/spy_fi/graphics/james_bond_pp7.jpg), there is LOTS of room to carry normal stuff- keys. cel phone, pass port, gps, and the ever important asprin!

I am saying that the Rp is set in either Barvaria in Germany or in an isolated Italian villiage.
I've made my choice about firearms. No...pure and simple.
Reasons:
I have friends who have gone to Europe last summer, during breaks etc and they have encountered a few anti-American people but otherwise everyone was very nice.
Streets are no safer there than in the USA most likely.
Also...air ports and border checks. USA concealed weapons laws probably don't work in Europe.
I have said this time and again...this Rp is not action oriented. It concentrates on chars, survival, scares, and suspense. Carrying a pocket knife or something small like that..okay. The chars will have to use the enviorment around them to survive...not the lead from firearms
So...that is that. No firearms.

I didn't mean he was a carbon copy of Hannibal. Just that he is very intelligent and quite out of his mind. Of course he can cover that up pretty well most of the time. Anyway, I will post more information about the character soon. Hopefully later today.
Oh I didn't mean to imply that he'd be a Hannibal clone, not at all.

Looking nice everyone.
Breitenburg, mind if I ask what is an electric fencing sabre? Some kind of guitar or...
Breitenburg
08-06-2006, 00:21
it's a sabre used in fencing that can plug in to show scores. It's really just a dull sabre.

I know what a foil...fencing blade thingy is. Just didn't know if it was some sort of fancy musical lingo for a guitar or something.

If you want I can nix the sabre. And a foil dosen't have a sharp tip, unlike a sabre.

Heres an idea for my char... always good to have a priest in a horror story, they're usually a useful bunch
Name: Father Andrew Quinn
Ht: 6'0"
Hair: Black, graying around edges. neatly cut
Age: 38
General Desc: Fit, slim, with an angular face
Proffesion: Catholic priest, psychology proffessor
Bio:
After getting his PhD in psychology for Harvard, Andrew Quinn followed the call of God and joined the priest-hood. He's spent his time as a priest teaching psycology at Boston College, and is generally well liked among the students for his sense of humor and his ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms. Though he is a religious man, Quinn tends to be a skeptic of all things supernatural or unexplainable. Indeed it is often a struggle for him to reconcile his faith with his inborn cynicism. He now travels to (whereever the RP takes place) to attend the funeral of his grandmother.
Sorry for lack of detail, but Ill flesh his char out as the RP goes on
