Sign up once, twice, and a third for good measure!

As for hosting, I'll tenatively put in a bid. If enough good bids surface, I'll withdraw to let someone new give it a shot. You all know what I stand for: creativity, fun, and a dwarf in every pot!

As for the new name... Why not just call it the ''CUP''???
Liverpool England
04-06-2006, 09:23
I believe puppet rules as used in the football WC also apply here (1 per nation, only for 2nd cup onwards)... scorinators = Excel and leagion, modified for ice hockey.

Keeping with the traditional Cup poll theme, how about the Moose Championship?

The Psychos - yes, we realise every team we ever enter is called the Psychos, it's not because we don't have any imagination - will be looking to eras their dismal (read: shite) record of the previous Cherry Cup, which we personally hope find itself renamed the Cup of MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE~!.
Vuam and Isma
04-06-2006, 13:10
As a member of New Cyberia, a geographical region with an average temperature of -3°C, it is natural for Vuam and Isma to enter a team for the NSWIHT.

However, Vuam and Isma is in the south of the region, and average temperatures for Vuam and Isma are 16°C, rendering football the most popular sport, and Ice Hockey a sport that is mainly imported from the neighbouring Theocracy of Gourrion.

Regardless, many Vuam and Isma players are part of the Gourrion HockLig, and will proudly represent Vuam and Isma.

Along with their entry, Vuam and Isma propose a new name for the NSWIHT : The Golden Puck. (It's better than the first idea we had that was "The embers"...)

So, to cut a lot of talk short :

The Vuam and Isma Bats enter the <insert name of next World Ice Hockey Tournament here>.

Why not just call it the world cup of Hockey?

Anyway, the Swilatia Warriors signs up for our first Ice Hockey tournament.

As for the scorinators, I would just modify an already existing one so it would work for icehockey.

Nooo! We need the Dwarves! =P (plus, you'll probably be first ranbked, and we can't have a bunch of newbies there!)

Because it's not the World Cup of Hockey, it's the Cherry Cup. If that's the quote.

Which smart cookie said that? ^.^

Seriously, though, I believe there has always been a difference between the Cherry Cup and the World Cup [of Football]. For one thing, the Cherry Cup is completely independent of the NSWC (I don't think KN ever even entered the WC, did he?). For another, because the Cherry Cup is smaller, it's also been more free to concentrate on RPs and silly moments than things like the RP bonus and organizing 70-100 teams. (I think the biggest cherry cup was like 30?)

This isn't to say that I don't like the World Cup or any of its subsidiary cups, because that simply isn't true. I'm just pointing out that the Cherry Cup represents a different, more casual path for NS sports RP and that I think we should do everything possible to keep it as such.

That having been said, it should also be noted that every host creates his/her (=P to HC) own way of hosting it. For instance, VAR used dice in his hosting bid, which -- while it draw a fair amount of controversy -- seemed to work out all right in the end.

Myself, I use a rather arcane spreadsheet (I've no idea where it orginated, other than Star sent it to me before CCVIII) which I don't understand, but it sends me the results when I plug in team ranks (or ranbks). There isn't an RP bonus, both because I've always been a bit uneasy about the premise and because I wouldn't have the know-how to program one into the spreadsheet anyway. I prefer to reward people who participate through the SPORTSBLURB! and my mid/end-cup awards. I've never been a big fan of puppets, but I suppose we can use them to fill out the roster.

(this post has become much longer than I intended. See Cherry Cup VIII for more information on how I host: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-387716.html )

NB: CCVIII is also notable as the first sighting the hockey world had of those damned Starblaydia dwarves. Anyone else notice that the exact same second dwarves made an appearance, the Gulls started their tumble from Champions™ to Nobodies™?

Two goals. Ten players. Two goalkeepers. One puck. Put puck in goal.

Oh, you wanted it more complex than that? You've got four offensive lines per team - each comprised of a centre, a left wing and a right wing - and three defensive pairings. These can be rotated freely, but you are only ever allowed to have six players on the ice, including the goaltender. There's not much else to be said, really.

Uhh... I'll stick with the first one.

I guess I'll learn as I go on, because the "four offensive lines" kinda lost me. And when you got to "defensive pairings", I wasn't even in the game any more...

I think I'll go back to wiki. Perhaps the french and german versions are simpler. Perhaps I'll have an illumination. Perhaps I'll just RP it like an american football game (I know the rules of that) or a grass hockey game.

It's like playing a 2-3 formation. Rolling subs; you have "sets" of players in defence and attack that tend to play together.

I think.

Since CC17 was co-hosted by Oli and HC, we've got three people on the committee as is (Krytenia is the third man). Just let them hash it out, and work out a replacement for KN later.

I never hosted anything!

Well, I'm starting to get the grips of hockey.

You've got unlimited subs, but you can only sub when you're attacking, right? Power play means you've got a player more on the ice than your opponent, because one of his skaters has taken a sin bin, k?

And then the harder bits : there are 6 positions : Goalie, laft defence, right defence, left winger, right winger, striker (sorry for the wrong names)? You'll generally replace players "by line" : the two defenders at once, or the 3 attackers.

And scores are more in the 3-5 range... I learn... Damn. I was all giddy at the though of 10-15 matches...
Liverpool England
07-06-2006, 10:48
Kry means he hosted the last one :P

Positions: Goalkeeper, left defence (or defense, to the N. Americans), right defence, left wing, right wing, and a centre (or center)...

Power play:
Normally: Opposition has a player serving two minutes for a minor or five minutes for a major. If you score during a power play, if the opposition player is serving a minor, he is released. Otherwise, you retain the man-advantage until the 5 minutes run up.
5-on-3: Your opposition has two players serving penalties, again, if you score, if either is serving a minor they are released, one at a time.
4-on-3: You have one man serving a penalty, your opponent has two. If you score, the opponent gets a player released. This is where I'm not so sure that if your opponent scores, you get your guy back...

Penalty kill: Basically power play, only your opponent has the man advantage.

4-on-4, 3-on-3: I'm not sure about this either, but I don't think either team gets their players back if goals are scored during this period. I'll need some confirmation.
McPsychoville
07-06-2006, 11:45
4/4 and 3/3 situations - if one team scores, one of the opponent's playing serving a minor will come back on the ice, giving them a powerplay.

As to the questions about the 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 in the NHL, AHL and ECHL, the 4-on-4 is used during overtime (regular season only, postseason is 5-on-5) and a 3-on-3 happens so extremely rarely, i've only seen it happen in college or in high school (such a thing cost my high school a chance to play for the state title :headbang: ), never at the Professional level. There must be at least 3 men besides the goalie on the ice at all times, every additional penalty past the 2nd will be added after the 1st penalty is served.

As for Powerplays- 5-on-4, 5-on-3 or 4-on-3 (2min Minor) If the team with more players score, the other team has the player or the 1st player in the penalty box come out as the penalty is served due to the goal being scored.

5-on-4 , 5-on-3 or 4-on-3 (5 min Major)- If the team with more players score, the entire 5 minute penalty MUST be served, so its a 5 minute powerplay (if there is a 5-on-3 and one of the penalties is a minor penalty, then follow the above rule) rarely do you see this happen unless a fight happens and one player don't swing back at the other

A list of Penalties that send a player to the Box-

2-minute Penalties or Minors

Boarding -
Pushing an opponent violently into the boards
Butt-ending-
Jabbing an opponent with the end of the shaft of the stick
Charging-
Taking more than three strides and
/or jumping before hitting an opponent
Checking from behind -
Hitting an opponent from behind is a penalty
Clipping
Delivering a check below the knees of an opponent
Cross-checking-
Hitting an opponent with the stick
when it is held with two hands
Delaying the game -
Deliberately stalling the game (for example, deliberately shooting
the puck out of play, holding the puck in the hand
for longer than 3 seconds, refusing to send
players out for a faceoff)
Elbowing-
Hitting an opponent with the elbow
High sticking -
Hitting an opponent with a stick above shoulder level
Holding -
Grabbing an opponent or his stick with the hands or stick
Hooking -
Using a stick as a hook to slow an opponent
Kneeing
Hitting an opponent with the knee
Roughing-
Pushing and shoving
Slashing-
Swinging a stick at an opponent, no contact is required
Spearing -
Stabbing an opponent with the stick blade
Too many men on the ice -
Having more than six players
(including the goalie) on the ice involved in the play at any given time
Tripping-
Using a stick or body to trip an opponent

5-minute Penalties-or Majors
Fighting-
Serious roughing in which punches are repeatedly thrown
Head-butting-
Hitting an opponent with the head
Illegal Equipment-
Using equipment that does not meet regulations,
either by size (length, width) or number (two sticks)

10-minute penalties which usually result in a Game Misconduct
which means the player is out for the rest of the game

Attempt to injure-
Deliberately trying to seriously harm an opponent

Unsportsmanlike conduct (Can also be a 2 or 5 minute
penalty depends on the referee and the type of offense)

Arguing with a referee; using slurs against an opponent or teammate;
playing with illegal equipment; intentionally embellishing
an infraction to entice a penalty call from the referee (“Diving”)

Is that all?

I thought hockey matches were high-scoring things... isn't 14-13 a normal score?

Well, I'm just starting to read the rules, so you'll have to be complacent...

14-13 would be a truly ridiculous scoreline.

Hockey, especially before the recent NHL rule changes, is an extremely low scoring game, even more so than football. An average score would probably be 2-1.

Ha, lower scoring than Soccer. I'd say they average 4 or 5 goals a game, even before the rule changes. And that's for Pro Hockey, College-level Hockey games can run up to 8 or 9 without flinching.

Wait... Your "national hockey team" won "your nation's hockey title for 7 years running"...

Are the Blood Wolves a national selection, or a club? If they're a national selection, then why the darn are they competing in a nation al title, and if they aren't, then are you sure you want to send a club to represent your nation?

They are a hand picked club team. In our country all teams from schools, armed forces, professional teams ,Jr, etc ALL compete in our national cup. Winner takes all, compaired to the rest of the worlds tourneys and professional championships,This is a much harder, more brutal 2 month tourney. Are we allowed to compete or not?

Of course you are. Just keep in mind that this is a friendly tournament and don't mind a little silliness if it crops up, like it unavoidably will.

And, since the number of bids is now so high, I'm going to go ahead and withdraw mine. I don't really have enough time to be hosting anyway. Last three hosts (in this case, I guess of the last two tournaments. I'm not used to dual-hosts in the CC =)) sounds good to me too. No need to get as complicated about this as the WC.

Yeah, i did withdraw my bid. Not enough time, too many others who haven't already hosted two of these things bidding, etc. I'll tell you what, though: I'm willing to recieve the votes. If Hockey Canada, Oliverry, and Krytenia would telegram me their votes (among Virginia Nova, Liverpool England, McPsychoville, Dingzanwa, and Squornshelous -- hope we don't end up with a three-way tie!) we can get this moved on to the much more difficult name-selection process. =D

Hm! Well, the Geletians don't play international sports beyond inter-tribal chariot races and insult-trading with the Azazian (or whatever they're now called) border guards, but are of the impression that here is a sport wherein gross ignorance of the proper course of action in a given situation can potentially be covered-up by punching somebody's teeth in, and the theoretical chance of facing the Iansislians (or whatever they are now calling themselves) only sweetens the deal.

What the heck, it'll make a change from scratching my head over proper fleet sizes and trying to spark revolutionary war in Asia :)

I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but hopefully that will be presentable as a manifestation of Geletian introspection over the last fifteen centuries.

Count us in.
