John Ville, the official tabulator for the Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup, looked around the room, at the aspiring tabulators. He was here to explain how exactly the second matchday would be paired, using matchday one's results.

"Alright, we'll start with the table after MD1. All the teams are ranked by points, better goal differential, most goals scored, most shutouts, and lastly, not to mention commonly, by their KPB rank."

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Bedistan 1 1 0 0 4 1 3 3
2 Liverpool England 1 1 0 0 4 1 3 3
3 Fmjphoenix 1 1 0 0 5 3 2 3
4 Yafor 2 1 1 0 0 3 1 2 3
5 The Islands of Qutar 1 1 0 0 1 0 1 3
6 Legalese 1 1 0 0 1 0 1 3
7 Third England 1 1 0 0 1 0 1 3

8 Starblaydia u21 1 0 1 0 3 3 0 1
9 Anathemic Republics 1 0 1 0 3 3 0 1

10 Virginia Nova 1 0 0 1 0 1 -1 0
11 The Lowland Clans 1 0 0 1 0 1 -1 0
12 Rorysville 1 0 0 1 0 1 -1 0
13 Casari 1 0 0 1 3 5 -2 0
14 McPsychoville 1 0 0 1 1 3 -2 0
15 Spaam 1 0 0 1 1 4 -3 0
16 Alastair I Frosticus 1 0 0 1 1 4 -3 0

"I also put a space where there is a difference in total points, such as between Third England and Starblayia. This will help define the brackets a little easier."

"The next step is to create the brackets that will form the second round parings. These aren't elimination brackets or anything, but they put teams with a similar point value in the same group, ensuring their opponent should be at about their strength."

"To form a bracket, you start from the top, and take all the teams with the same number of points as the #1 team, which in this case, is Bedistan, with 3 points. A total of 7 teams have 3 points, and therefore would go in the top bracket."

"However, you cannot have a bracket with an odd number of teams. To solve that, the lowest-ranked team is removed from the top bracket, and lowered into the next bracket. This bracket will be formed with the next set of teams with a point value lower than 3. That would be the Starblaydi u21s and the Anathemic Republics. Since this again creates an odd-numbered bracket, AR is dropped down into the final bracket, which entails all the teams with no points."

"This creates 3 brackets, In which teams keep the rank they held previously. The top 6 make up the top bracket, Third England and Starblaydia make up bracket 2, and bracket 3 is of teams 9 through 16."

"Now, you do your pairings within the bracket. The top team in each bracket shall play the lowest ranked team in the bracket, and so on. For the top bracket, that means that Bedistan will play Legalese, Liverpool England takes on The Islands of Qutar, and Fmjphoenix plays Yafor 2."

Ville posted the entire pairing sheet for the crowd:

Bedistan v. Legalese
Livepool England v. Qutar
Rmjphoenix v. Yafor 2
Third England v. Starblaydia u21
Anathemic Republics v. Alastair I Frosticus
The Lowland Clans v. Spaam

Knockout Rounds Cancelled, announces NSCC Organizers

As the teams completed the third matchday of the Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup, the organizers of the tournament announced the cancellation of the eliminaton rounds, deciding to award the title to the team with the best record after Matchday 4.

"After discussing the matter with the committee and with the teams, it was determined that a clear champion could be crowned after the fourth matchday, rendering the subsequent matches as pointless", said Janson Imminta, VP of Operations for presenting sponsor Imminta Cheese, and head of the organizing committee.

What was not discussed at the match was the seeming lack of interest. While the Legalese and Starblaydi u21 matches were well attended, it seemed the others were not. The Bedistan/Fmjphoenix match, held at Mallaber International Pitch in Bellona, saw only about 10,000 fans enter the approximately 55,000-seat arena. On television, the match, shown as a doubleheader on Channel Sport with the host's match held prior, recieved a .1 rating, the lowest broadcast of any televised sporting event in the last month. Even the preliminary rounds of the National Academic Challenge, televised on Channel Sport's secondary network, rated higher, with a .5 rating.

With two teams undefeated, the final pairings will create a championship match between Bedistan and Liverpool England, to be held at Imminta Park, in Binchensburg. The 30-pound block of Swiss Cheese will be ready for the winner there. If there is a draw, the match will go into extra time, and penalties if needed.
