Fantasy Intrigue RP: Truth & Treachery
I'm thinking about starting an RP about Intrigue in a fantasy world. The players would be members of one of 4 houses, each trying to seek power in a fantasy republic (not Cayr :P).
Houses:
Player houses:
House Iunius
History: House Iunius is a house of noble and fair aristocrats. They are for voting rights but against complete democracy. At this time, House Iunius is one of the factions in the Coalition.
Players: Cayr
City Quarter: Nobility Quarter
Supporting Faction: Lower aristocrats, wellfaring people
Insignia: A green laurel wreath on a field of blueish white
House Oppridor
History: For ages, the military leaders of house Oppridor have been in the opposition. They desire only power and use the most brutal methods to obtain it. House Oppridor is only second in Senate Seats to House Iunius, but is in the Opposition.
Players: Wandering Argonians
City Quarter: Slumtown
Supporting Factions: Thieves' Guild, Hirelings, Scum
House Libris
History: House Libris is a small and new house of newly promoted noblemen, whose goal is not only to obtain power for themselves, but also for the people. They are a small Senate faction but have rising power and are in the Coalition.
Players: None yet
City Quarter: Outskirt Towns
Supporting Factions: Normal people, Democrats
House Optix
History: When the Republic was still a Monarchy, House Optix was the Royal House. But then the revolution came, under the stout leadership of Fabius Iunius. They are conservative and reactionary.
Players: Old Atlantia (house leader)
City Quarter: High District
Supporting Factions: High Aristocrats, Cross-border Monarchies, Rogue Wizards
House Dimir (new house; will replace a regular house not played)
History: A new, and relatively small house, House Dimir has quickly gained a reputation as an egalitarian house, but appearences can quite often be deceiving.
Players: Theao
City Quarter: Across entire city, no definate location
Supporting Faction: none, support from small portions of most classes.
Insignia: A person backed by a sunburst
Non-player houses:
House Arcanum
History: The house Arcanum usually delivered the republic's archmage over ages.
Leader: Archmage Gregory XXX
City Quarter: Mage District
Does anyone wish to participate?

This reminds me of that game Morrowind for the Xbox. I'm certainly interested, but before I make a character- what are the races in this world? Any rules for character creation? Can I be the head of a House? If so, I'd like to reserve house Optix.

All normal fantasy races are allowed, such as elves, halflings, gnomes, humans, half-breeds, etc.
Can I be the head of a House? If so, I'd like to reserve house Optix.
You will lead your house when you enforce it. You can do whatever you like, but make plans with your house.
Is there magick(and if so, to what extent)?

Magick can be used to do certain things, to make people invisible or something

House Optix:
Leader:
Name: Arch-Duke Athalus Velim
Nickname: Athalus the "Silver Tounged"
Race: High Elven
Height: 6'5"
Age: 217, looks mid-thirties
Weight: 160
Hair: Brown, shoulder length
Eyes: Dark Grey
Clothing: Flowing robes, always of the most expensive material.
Appearance: Tall, slim, with the high cheeks bones, pointed ears, and sharp features of his race.
Insignia: White hand engulfed in red flame
Bio:
A skilled mage and a political genius, Velim used his clout and cunning to cling to his noble position during the Revolution... when many in House Optix were killed or exiled. The revolutinary leader Iunius, not wanting to antagonize the Royal House any further, appointed Athalus as its head. Initially the Old Guard nobility rejected the Arch-duke as their leader, since he was not appointed by the king but by the liberal revolutionaries. Velim, now earning his nickname "Silver Tounged," talked many of the stiff aristocrats back into his fold and solidified his rule of the Great House. Though he is conservative and relatively xenophobic, like the rest of his house, Athalus is a dynamic visionary and plans to restore House Optix's power through any means necessary.... including deception and assassination. He especially wishes to crush House Libris before it gains any real power.
Like much of the Old Guard aristocracy, Athalus is an accomplished wizard and has an unofficial rivalry with House Arcanum's Archmage, Gregory XXX. It is rumored that he plots to overthrow his rival and take the position of Archmage for himself... combining House Optix and Arcanum.
(I hope this is satisfactory?)
Magick can be used to do certain things, to make people invisible or something
So something like D&D magick?
Something like that ;), but used into political schemes.
Yes Old Atlantia, that is enirely satisfactory :)

I really like this idea, kudos.
May I ask which House you'll be leading, Cayr?
Also, under "Supporting Factions" for House Optix, I wonder if you could put 'rouge wizards' as well?

I'll be Martinus Tanear, Chancellor and leader of House Iunius
House Iunius:
Leader:
Name: High Chancellor Martinus Tanear
Nickname: Martinus Tanear the Righteous
Race: Half-elf, half-human
Height: 1.60 m
Age: 28
Weight: 80 kg
Hair: Dark Brown, middle length
Eyes: Green
Clothing: Noble suits, mostly made of silk
Appearance: Tall, Commanding, with the slightly pointed ears of his elven father
Bio:
A leader since Knight Academy, Martinus Tanear was the son of a human noble's daughter and a notable elf half-prince, and the founder of House Iunius.
At the Knight Academy, he quickly rose to commanding position and followed rhetoric lessons with great teachers like Chancellor of State Amadeus. He also studied politics, warfare and magic.
He founded House Iunius 10 years ago, and has been rising in power ever since, eventually being elected High Chancellor for the last 5 years. His ambitions are to further the people's rights, improve social welfare and keep the republic running under the guidance of the Iunii. His sign is a Laurel Wreath on a field of light blue.
cool, I'll join. Profile will come later.

Do you have any specifications about the world we are RPing in? Geography ect? I think it'd be helpful if we worked out a basic layout of the capital city, where I suppose each of the Great House's leaders are... Im willing to help if ya like, TG me.
Old Atlantia, could you draw a map of your quarter? I'll go off now and draw a map of the whole city tomorrow morning.
House Dimir
History: A new, and relatively small house, House Dimir has quickly gained a reputation as an egalitarian house, but appearences can quite often be deceiving.
Players: Theao

Heh, I hate to hang it all on your shoulders Cayr... but I cant draw at all and my comp has no scanner or 'paintshop' program. So heres a basic description of High Quarter...
High Quarter:
Circular shaped segment of the city surrounded by high white brick walls, cutting it off from the rest of Aphel. In the center of the south-facing wall is a large round gate with the Arch-Duke's insignia, a white hand engulfed in flame, embossed in it. Since the wall is not a defensive measure, but more of a decoration, the gate is always open... except at night. Just inside the gate is High Plaza, a large city square with an elegant fountain in the middle. Various manners and estates surround the plaza, including an Inn and an upper-class pub. Once out of the central plaza two buildings stand out- the Arch-duke's tower and the Optix council house. The Council house was once the Kings palace and is appropriately elegant. It is located in the eastern most edge of the quarter and is surrounded by several villas and mansions. Directly opposite the Council house is perhaps Aphel's most striking building... the Arch-duke's tower. Constructed out of white stone brick, the circular tower stretches far into the air, rivaling the height of the High Chancellor's palace. At the top of the tower two stone pinacles emerge and appear to scrape the sky... during thunderstorms lightning dances between the two horns of rock. During the monarchy it had housed the Archmage, and very much looks the part of a wizard's tower.
Between the Council House and Tower stretches a huge, elegant garden. Trees and flowers of all types thrive here, and several pedestrian paths wind gently through the large park. There are rumors, though, that small caves in High Quarter Garden lead into the sewers of Aphel... the home of goblins, slave traders, outlaws, and worse... there are whispers of vampires residing in the ruins beneath the city.

OOC: Are there race restrictions in this RP? i.e. restrictions to non-D&D races like those from the Elder-Scrolls series and the like?

You may play everything you wish, as long as it isn't a half-god or other powerful being. I would like te being to be humanoid and remain in that form at all times

I thought that was a cool way to get votes :)
I thought that was a cool way to get votes :)
Actually(and this is known only to a very few members(four) of House Dimir), one of the founders of/reasons for existance of the House is a vampire lord with his own vampiric minions who'll be not happy with a vampire hunter.
And of the four, only the Head of the House, is in the public eye.

I suspected your house had something to do w/ vamps. Try and get other fantasy RPers to fill up the Houses... this should be a good RP

If you've played Magic the Gathering's Ravnica block, you'll have a bit of a guideline on House Dimir.

As interested as I am in this type of setting, my fantasy knowledge does not go much beyond the LOTR and TES Morrowind... Ive never played D&D or any of the fantasy card games. Ill look into it though.

I'm gonna try to make up a house, hope this works.
House Pacem
History: Pacem is a brand new house gaining enormous support from the people. They want to install one leader, elected by the people, who would make all the laws and control the government absolutely for a seven year term. Claim to support the poor. The people's battle cry is UNITY!
Players: The Appalacians
City Quarter: No clear quarter.
Supporting Factions: The poor, normal people
will do my charcter/leader of house later
OA, do you mind if I bump off a mid-level functionary of your house?
Old Atlantia

Not in the least, it'd be cool if the Vamp house found out what was happening and decided to help out the vamps Athalus had released into the city.
Aha, nice house. There will maybe be politics only in this month, but tensions can rise and fall quickly.
I'm going on holiday this weekend till monday, so I can't play by then. So OA and theao, please don't bring too much to the Chancellor's attention.
On vacation, i will draw the map (if that is, if i have time). At request out of the game, the whole republic can be fleshed out if needed.
The Appalacians

You may play everything you wish, as long as it isn't a half-god or other powerful being. I would like te being to be humanoid and remain in that form at all times
OOC: That won't be an issue. Argonians are very humanoid, looking like lizard-men, for lack of a more detailed description.
Character-wise, I'll post the following bio:
Name: Teersan (Pronounced 'Tear-San')
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 219 lbs
Eye Color: Yellow
Scale Color: Green
House Affiliation: Oppridor (Most Likely)
Description: Teersan is what is best described as a migrant assassin. Having served as a 'Shadowscale' in service to the kingdom of Argonia, his training runs the gamut of espionage and assassination and not much else. While his manners are impeccable, and his speech only slightly accented, it cannot conceal his true predatory nature, and he likes nothing more than the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of the kill. Preferring the bow and the dagger to the axe, he is still competent with a longsword when the situation dictates that that particular killing tool be employed, but it is by far one of his less-preferred tools.
You're here, andv you're the strongest in House Oppridor. As for that, you are House Leader
And the election results are here! Congrats Iunius and Optix!
Everyone has roleplayed its character well, I'm happy that this RP has a good deal of good RPers in it. I would like to invite you, OA, to run the game together with me. TG me please.
Furthermore, I would like Wandering Argonians and the House Pacem (lost his name) to make their first posts. Next month is the formation of the Coalition.
