IC thread is here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=484735).
Okay, here’s the idea: Two professional thieves break into a facility belonging to a massive research company (Insetiq Systems), with the intent of stealing some choice items and making a large amount of money by selling them to rival companies or other nations. But, as that intro reveals, all does not go according to plan.
During their search of the most advanced research labs, they come across a cell which contains a teenage girl of about 17. Their interest caught, they investigate further, and find a record that seems to indicate she has been kept there for several years, and hints at her being held somewhere else before that. When the girl notices their presence, and recognising that they are not employees of Insetiq, she pleads with them to help her.
Now, the men are thieves, not heartless killers, and they see a person being held against their will for no apparent reason. They decide that it is their duty to help her, even if it means giving up their intended purpose. So they release her, and lead her out of the facility. However, the disappearance of the girl is quickly noticed, and the men find themselves being pursued by the security personnel. One of the thieves is killed, and the other manages to get the girl out of the facility, out into the sprawling industrial sector where it was located, which is where the events above begin.
So, who is this girl, and why does Insetiq Systems want her back in their custody so badly? Why were they keeping her in the first place, and what were they doing to her?
Okay, RP details:
This is FT, or probably more PMT. There are no colonies on other worlds, nor orbital colonies, and so there is no space travel. There are no aliens, and no supernatural entities; this is firmly grounded in the ‘real’ world. AG technology is prevalent, but wheeled vehicles are not yet an unusual sight, and are still reasonably common, as well as being far cheaper than their airborne counterparts.
As for weapons, they are little different from what exists today. The military has started experimenting with light, low (relative, x3-5 rifle bullet) velocity electromagnetic pulse acceleration weapons for infantry purposes, but these are both very expensive and not particularly reliable.
This RP is set in the city of Salobra, a large sprawling city that covers almost every culture that can be imagined. Salobra-Imandra International, a combination airport and SkyFlyer maglev terminal, lies in the northern outskirts of the city, on the edge of the industrial sector. Connections with the city centre, and indeed any other area of the city, are made via the extensive Metro network running under the city, or by AG buses.
The Salobran Police are very efficient and are not all that dissimilar to a small army, as a number of the more run-down areas of the city suffer from gang and organised crime trouble, and have their own light armoured vehicles and armed helicopters. The average street officer wears a stripped down version of the military’s infantry battlesuit and has a rifle in their vehicle. Bounty-hunting is semi-legal in Free Eagles, they are a recognised profession, but they will usually be held accountable for any crimes they commit.
All persons are issued with an electronic ID card, which contains every piece of information about the person, including extensive biometric data. This ID functions as passport and drivers/pilots license and credit card, as well as many other uses, and is required to travel by either the airport or the maglev. Fingerprint and retina scans are common to confirm identity, indeed credit cards are confirmed by fingerprint scan, and those recorded on the card need to match. It is possible to obtain a counterfeit card through the criminal underworld, but one that will stand up to scrutiny requires a great deal of money to purchase.
Foreign visitors also require one of these cards, and are issued with a temporary card that also acts as their entry visa. All the relevant information must be added to the card upon their arrival, or submitted before travelling, as the nation runs off these cards.
One last thing worth mentioning is that Free Eagles is one of the few places in the world where the USD will not see you through. The only currency generally accepted is the Free Eaglian Ruble, which has an exchange rate of ж1 to $4. Almost all transactions are carried out electronically, but notes and coins do exist.
So, you can help or hinder this girl as you see fit. Almost any character you can think of can be played here, although I do have the final decision. No-one can play a member of the girl’s family or any acquaintances (because she doesn’t have any). Any questions, just ask and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Are there psionics/are there credible psychics(Telepaths, Telekinetics, and Empaths)?

Officially no, but they are known to exist, they're just extremely rare. However, those that do exist tend not to be particularly powerful. They also tend to be shunned by the public. If you want to play a psyonic of some kind I have no outright objections, so put up a bio and I'll give it a look.
Oh, and for the record, the girl does not have any psyonic abilities.
Hope this is what you were looking for:
Name: Illido Kranato
Age: 23
Abilities/Talents: Fencing, some TK(about 50kg manipulation), fairly intelligent/intuitive.
Appearence: Lean, blue eyes, blond hair, 5'7"
There goes my first impression of mystery girl.
Free Eagles
28-05-2006, 22:46
Yeah, that seems fine to me. Should be interesting to see how a fencer might fit in to a world that relies on guns to make a point. I'll get a bio up for my two characters later.
And yes, I did realise the similarities with certain other characters after I created her, but I'm trying to differ the two as best I can.
So should I post his intro, and is there an airport/train station/bus terminal/port in the city?
Free Eagles

Sure, go ahead and post your intro. As to the question:
This RP is set in the city of Salobra, a large sprawling city that covers almost every culture that can be imagined. Salobra-Imandra International, a combination airport and SkyFlyer maglev terminal, lies in the northern outskirts of the city, on the edge of the industrial sector. Connections with the city centre, and indeed any other area of the city, are made via the extensive Metro network running under the city, or by AG buses.
And I'd point out the bit about the ID cards again as well.
Ah, missed that. So he arrives, and gets one of the cards, then can go exploring the city, correct?
Free Eagles
28-05-2006, 23:16
Yup. As soon as you have an ID card, everything opens up to you.
Oh, and the Metro is a far better method of getting around than relying on the buses, as usual.

Mercenary Soldiers

OOC: My one PMT/FT Character, modified to your non-interstellar qualifications...
Name: Charles Thomas (CT) Turner
Age: 25 years
Race: Human (Caucasian Male)
Nationality: Earth
Profession: Hired Gun/Drifter/Mechanic/Bodyguard/Occasional Mercenary/Bounty Hunter
Brief Background: CT has made his own way in the world from a very young age, living in a handful of different places during his childhood in either government foster homes or on the streets. Crime became a way of life, and subsequently landed him in a few correctional facilities during his late teens. In an attempt at reformation, he has been enlisted in the various national militaries, attaining special forces status in a few before disappearing completely with various expensive pieces of military equipment. This behavior has landed him several bounties for desertion, and a well-deserved reputation as a con-artist.
Noteworthy Notes: This combination of military expeirence and street smarts has made Mr. Turner an extremely resourceful individual, a combination elite soldier and professional hustler/thief. He cannot be trusted under the best of circumstances where money is involved, but is quite comfortable in a firefight. Preferring pistols, Turner's ambidexterity serves his well when double-fisting sidearms, a skill learned more during shootouts with the authorities than in any military training camp. Some shreds of decency and loyalty might be buried under his charismatic exterior, if indeed they exsist at all. If this is true, he hides it well.
Distinguishing Marks (Tattoos):
XSP Sidearms arranged in a dueling pattern on back
'LIVE BY THE GUN' in Old English font above XSP Sidearms Tattoo
Chinese Symbols for 'Natural', 'Born', and 'Killer' down inside of left forearm
Unit Crest for Combine 3rd Special Operations Unit (simple set of crossed XSP sidearms behind a Combine battle-helmet with full face-mask, with a commando knife pointing upwards between the pistols and behind helmet) on inside of right forearm
Three 'Bullet-Hole' marks on Left Pectoral Area
Weapons: Twin XSP Modified Combine Civil Protection Sidearms
Mr. Turner's personal sidearms are a curious combination of archaic firearms and the latest technology.
The 'XSP' sidearm is a Combine derivitive semi-automatic magazine-fed metallic-cased-ammunition sidearm used by the 'Civil Patrol' section of the Combine enforcement wing. Turner's personal versions incorporate a mid-weight alloy frame with a heavy stainless steel slide featuring magna-ports along the tops of the slides and the weighted match-grade barrels. Recoil compensators have been fitted to the ends of the pistols to dampen recoil even further. Steel guide rods for the enhanced action springs further enhance the pistol's balance, nearly nullifying recoil entirely.
The weapons are chambered in the formerly popular '9MM' caliber, holding eighteen rounds per alloy magazine. They lack sights of any kind, instead being directed by infared lasers emitted from within the barrels through nano-scale projectors behind the firing pins. The beam is invisible to the naked eye, unless the eyes are enhanced with additional nano-scale implantations that make the beams visible by the enhanced retina. Mr. Turner has had these implantations, allowing for extreme accuracy on his part.
The triggers are match-grade models with extremely light pulls, and break as cleanly as glass rods. In addition, the pistols have no safety systems what so ever, so as to facilitate the most rapid deployment possible during hostile situations. In other words, when the hair triggers are pulled the weapons fire.
Side effects from the implantation surgery are an extreme sensetivity to infared beams of any sort, which can temporarily blind the enhanced eye. The beams are also only good for close-range combat, anything past two-hundred meters are nearly impossible to hit due to the lack of iron-sights.

That's fine, so go ahead and post in the IC thread. I don't have time to make a decent IC post now, but I will do so first thing tomorrow.
I would point out that to hit anything at 200m with a pistol, with or without sights, is virtually impossible, regardless of skill, since the bullet doesn't have enough energy to get that far, and the barrel length isn't sufficient to maintain any degree of accuracy over such distances. (More the second point than the first, since SMGs use the same rounds and can be effective out to 200m).
Mercenary Soldiers

OOC: You're preaching to the choir. Pistol barrels, even the extended versions found on some match-grade and 'tactical' variations, lack the length to spin a round to a sufficient velocity with current technology. My statement was meant to point out that the beams themselves don't appear at that sort of range, and not the weapons themselves having that sort of reach-out-and-touch power. (This is coming from a former USMC Armorer out of Quantico, Virginia)
The system is set up to have a 'point-and-shoot' functionality similar to the FPS video games of today. The weapon is pointed in the direction of the target, and the aiming dot appears as the barrel comes in line with the target. Pull the trigger and the round should go where the dot is situated. I figured it'd make all that rapid, accurate shooting you see in the movies a bit more believeable, as well as make them extremely effective for fast target aquisition in a close-quarters environment.
This being a PMT/FT RP, I've assumed there have been some advances in rifling and powder (I've seen plasma-based propellants used in other RP's) technologies in the past X amount of years. Like I said, this guy is an over-the-top character I use strictly for PMT/FT-tech RP's, since I'm a strict Modern-Tech realisum nut.

Okay, I think I misunderstood the original post then. In which case I have no complaints, as that's exactly the kind of enhancement I would expect to have come about (although I probably wouldn't have made it an implant, but that's irrelevant).
And in that case, you probably know far more about it than I do, since I've never had any form of military training.

Theao, I have no problems with you controlling a few random NPCs to keep things moving. Particularly in your current situation, just run with it, and I'll just tell you if I strongly disagree with something you've said. If there's something you're not sure about, just tell me.
The only time it needs to slow down like that really is interaction between principle characters.
Merc Soldiers: Are you actually taking part in this, because there is a response to your post in the IC thread, combined with one of the ones to Theao.
And would anyone like to tell me why no-one else is interested?
Also, just a warning: I have exams in the next few weeks, so I may or may not be around.

Yes of course. Just post up a character and I'll let you know.
I also have to apologise to the others for my extended absence. My exams needed a lot of work, and then there was some chaos involving moving house, but it's all sorted now. I shall get a post up soon.

Hmm, it would be rational for the Var to be a customer of Insetiq...
(Of course buying said technology from the thieves would be much cheaper)
And the Var would have an intrest in said girl...hmmm?

Lords of War, perhaps you could clear a few things up for me. I may be misinterpreting what you have said, but your character sounds to me like an alien (which would contradict what I've set out), and what do you mean by artificial force generation? Are we talking a psionic ability or a technological field of expertise?
Kzuu Mai, that's fine. You're clear to post.
United O-Zone, apart from my agreeing with Theao, I have a couple of concerns. First, those skills, or at least the one you have mentioned in your IC post, seem to me to be spells, seeing as people can't be summoned out of thin air. Since I said this was based in the 'real' world, magic is something I can't accept. Secondly, I have to wonder how a carpet thief would get involved in something like this which, to be honest, is likely to get very ugly and the only profit to be had would be from claiming the bounty that will probably end up on the girl.
And I am currently suffering from writer's block, but I will endeavour to get something up tomorrow. My apologies once more.

The character (all LOW characters in this thread) will be humans.
Those humans work for aliens but the Var don't like to deal with 'outsiders' themselves, (The Var only show themselves to fellow Klatchians really).
So they use their human vassels to do such work, which I interpeted as being o.k. in this thread.
Force Generators are basicly a form of 'Anti-Gravity' Of course it isn't anti-gravity, they are plates that can generate force based on spinning ultra pure matter condensates within the framework of a superconductor.
So she is an expert in anti-gravity...

Aha! Now this is the kind of RP I've been looking for. One, it has Mercenary Soldiers in it. Two, in a thread where everyone has psionic powers and souped-up weaponry, I get to be the guy with no combat skills and no real weapons!
Name: Johann Kriegmann
Appearance: Oil-stained, stout man of roughly Germanic origin with a head like a cinder block. Obviously has not had a clean change of clothes for the past decade.
Age: Hard to estimate beneath the grease, but approximately mid-50s.
Personality: Crotchety when it comes to youngins, nostaligic when it comes to the good ol' days, passionate when it comes to cars, jovial when it comes to drinking, compassionate when it comes to helping people in need.
Weaponry: .22LR revolver of archaic make and origin (no bullets), crowbar/hammer/rock/other improvised weapon.
Notes: Owns and runs a mechanical shop all by his lonesome. He specializes in fixing up older cars (though all cars are quickly becoming antiques, which he resents), but he is proficient at any mechanical task he puts his mind to. Managing the finances of his shop are not difficult, since he gets little business (it turns out his spot in the industrial sector was not as well-travelled as he thought). He's been known to harbor non-violent criminals in his shop (and been fined a few times for it), and is rumored to occassionally work as a fence for a larger criminal organization.
