Greetings,
I am starting up a RPG forum for Alpha Centauri and a offshoot of my own flavor. Send an expedition along with everyone else to lay claim to this strange system. Land, strange new technologies, and lawlessness abounds for those who dare to come! Here is a basic outline for what I invision.
Alpha Centuari background:
History
First planet colonized in the Alpha Centauri system:
The first planet to be colonized in the Alpha Centauri system didn’t go as well as expected. An engine malfunction and a dead captain caused new plans to be drawn up. These plans resulted in the break up of the colonists into seven factions.
These seven factions took their share of the supplies, a colony pod, and their own unique view on how the planet should be settled. However different political ideologies weren’t going to be the only thing that would make the colonization process hard. Once the factions made land fall others began to conspire in their bid for power.
Several new factions began to emerge from their parent factions. These factions held many more radical ideologies than the first. However things would begin to heat up for the fledgling colonists. As it would seam the planet itself was viewing the colonists as virus that needed purged. Its own immune like systems kicked into full gear. Many hundreds of thousands died from the mind worms and xeno-fungus that plagued the planet.
Now as the colonists deal with themselves and the vary planet they want to call home a new foreign threat has emerged. It seams that an alien race is dieing from a centuries old feud that has nearly destroyed their race.
Two sides of the alien race are now fighting for undisputed ruler of “Planet”. At one side they wish to control and dominate the planet and thus the entire galaxy while the other wishes to preserve the planet’s ecology. The two ideologies can not exist with each other.
New Terra background
History
The early colonists had expected a fairly easy time of colonizing and dealing with the new alien planet they would call home. However they were so vary disappointed. At the moment they stabilized and advanced their technological base the colonists once again began to look other worlds. For nearly a century the colonies had enjoyed the exploits of off world zero-g manufacturing but now they dream of more on distant planets within the Alpha Centauri system.
However peace and cooperation within the colonies would not be had. A new space race was born for who would control this new world would surely dominate the other. Many plans were put into place. For one hundred years terraforming pods were launched from “Planet” intent on terraforming the “new” world into something less hospitable than when the first of the colonists arrived on “Planet”.
Once the new planet was ripe for massive colonization by all factions something horrific happened. After the new planet had received is first couple million colonists a nuclear explosion was detected. The resulting aftermath interacted with the terraforming that was happening on the planet. A chain reaction ensued causing massive radiation of the planet. Large portions of the planet were laid to barren deserts.
Accusations and blame were called from all sides. However many believed it was Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang. The reasoning for this was that he was lagging behind other colonies and many believe that if he couldn’t have the new world than no one could.
So from this new barren world the colonists who survived the apocalypse now have a tougher time at eking out an existence. From the radiations strange mutations are occurring with the native flora and fauna. Even the within the colonists ranks mutants are becoming a problem. Although the colonies had given up on this new planet the new colonists haven’t given up on themselves.
Description of the planet:
The planet has gone through a lot in recent years. The planet itself was once unable to support human life. The first colonies tried to terraform the planet and were succeeding in an attempt to adapt the world to humans. However when the Great Tragedy struck it turned the once hopeful Earth like planet into a barren wasteland.
The planet now is primarily a desert world. There are some areas of the planet that are ideal but those are few and far in between. The factions that call this world home have huddled in colonies that protect them from the out side hazards of the world.
From the unique combination of the colonist’s terraforming and of the nuclear detestation a mutant plague has been crossing the world. This mutation infected only a small portion of the population. However in recent years those infected have passed the mutation onto those around them. This mutation causes the victim’s skin to tighten and dry, wears away at the brain shrinking it, and only but the most basic of instinct remains. These mutations cause people to turn into mindless ghouls. Shambling about the wastes these monstrosities look to feed. The mutation is passed on when a victim is bitten but not killed and thus infects the next person.
