The Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup, Presented by Imminta Cheese and Emeri Brewing
Welcome to the Inaugural Nemyan Swiss Cup! Formed by the Legalese Association Football Federation (LAFF) and the Casari Soccer Authority (CSA), the Swiss Cup is a semi-open invitation tournament that will take place in between the World Cups. (For RP purposes, we're assuming it's the year between World Cup 28 proper, and the start of qualifying for WC 29, for those who use the 4-year cycle, but that's entirely up to you). Hosting duties will be alternated every cup cycle, with the first competition hosted by Legalese.
Format:
There will be a single table, regardless of the number of interested teams; however, it will not be a set round-robin. Rather, the tournament will be Swiss-style, to an extent. It shall work as follows:
Teams will be randomly paired for the first round of matches, and receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and none for a loss. After each round, the teams will be ordered by points, and teams with the same number of points will be placed in the same bracket for pairing purposes. Inside brackets, teams will be ranked, using the following criteria, in order:
1. Goal Differential
2. Most Goals Scored
3. Most Shutouts
4. KPB Rank (using most recently available)
Within each bracket, the teams will then be paired top-bottom. That is, the highest-ranked side in the bracket faces the lowest ranked side, the next-highest v. the next-lowest, and so on.
Every round after the first shall be paired as such, until a set number have been completed (4-6, most likely). Afterwards, the top teams will enter a single-elimination knockout round. If there is a tie for the final position into the round, the tiebreakers shall be such:
1. Schedule Strength Index (Number of combined points of your opposition times two PLUS the number of combined points of your opposition's opposition)
2. Goal Differential
3. A Playoff between the tied teams
The team winning the knockout rounds will win the title, which includes a set of Swiss Cheese Rings for the members of the team, as well as a traveling trophy provided by Imminta Cheese, a 30-pound block of Swiss Cheese!
In addition, after each match, the winning team will receive 2 cases from Emeri Brewing: 1 case of Emeri Stout, and 1 of Emeri Light.
The Scorinator used will be Leagion owing to its flexibility for the format. The formula might be tweaked slightly to encourage scoring and randomness; that has yet to be determined.
If you are interested, please sign up here. Anyone who has participated in World Cup 28, and has (or will) sign up for World Cup 29 is eligible. I do request, however, that those participating in the Draggoni Invitationii Thingii not sign up; no offence to AMSV, of course, there's just more than enough teams to fill both without problem.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
