The Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup, Presented by Imminta Cheese and Emeri Brewing

Welcome to the Inaugural Nemyan Swiss Cup! Formed by the Legalese Association Football Federation (LAFF) and the Casari Soccer Authority (CSA), the Swiss Cup is a semi-open invitation tournament that will take place in between the World Cups. (For RP purposes, we're assuming it's the year between World Cup 28 proper, and the start of qualifying for WC 29, for those who use the 4-year cycle, but that's entirely up to you). Hosting duties will be alternated every cup cycle, with the first competition hosted by Legalese.

Format:
There will be a single table, regardless of the number of interested teams; however, it will not be a set round-robin. Rather, the tournament will be Swiss-style, to an extent. It shall work as follows:

Teams will be randomly paired for the first round of matches, and receive 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and none for a loss. After each round, the teams will be ordered by points, and teams with the same number of points will be placed in the same bracket for pairing purposes. Inside brackets, teams will be ranked, using the following criteria, in order:

1. Goal Differential
2. Most Goals Scored
3. Most Shutouts
4. KPB Rank (using most recently available)

Within each bracket, the teams will then be paired top-bottom. That is, the highest-ranked side in the bracket faces the lowest ranked side, the next-highest v. the next-lowest, and so on.

Every round after the first shall be paired as such, until a set number have been completed (4-6, most likely). Afterwards, the top teams will enter a single-elimination knockout round. If there is a tie for the final position into the round, the tiebreakers shall be such:

1. Schedule Strength Index (Number of combined points of your opposition times two PLUS the number of combined points of your opposition's opposition)
2. Goal Differential
3. A Playoff between the tied teams

The team winning the knockout rounds will win the title, which includes a set of Swiss Cheese Rings for the members of the team, as well as a traveling trophy provided by Imminta Cheese, a 30-pound block of Swiss Cheese!

In addition, after each match, the winning team will receive 2 cases from Emeri Brewing: 1 case of Emeri Stout, and 1 of Emeri Light.

The Scorinator used will be Leagion owing to its flexibility for the format. The formula might be tweaked slightly to encourage scoring and randomness; that has yet to be determined.

If you are interested, please sign up here. Anyone who has participated in World Cup 28, and has (or will) sign up for World Cup 29 is eligible. I do request, however, that those participating in the Draggoni Invitationii Thingii not sign up; no offence to AMSV, of course, there's just more than enough teams to fill both without problem.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

OOC clarification question -

Would you welcome puppets of nations that are in the Dragonnii thingii if said puppet isn't in?

For example, the Archregimancy is participating in ASMV's tournament, so won't sign up for the Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup, as per request.

But could WC 28 participants Alasdair I Frosticus, a puppet of the Archregimancy not playing in the Inviyatii, enter the Swiss Cheese Cup?

No offence will be caused by saying no.

We are more than happy to accept AIF in the Swiss Cheese Cup. The reasoning (both OOC and ICly) behind requesting teams do not participate in both is for the fact that while it is theoretically possible they could, we'd generally prefer to ensure that anyone looking for a little offseason fun has the chance. The good thing about the Swiss-system setup is that we can accomodate any number of teams, offering a place for those not participating in AMSV's well-run tourney. We hope not to steal his thunder, but to offer something a little different for those not participating in his show.

So, as said at first, AIF is hereby entered in the Swiss Cheese Cup, as is Fmjphoenix, pending confirmation here.

The Holy Empire Football Association, at the request of the Basileus, is considering taking a more active role in World Football again, starting in WC30.

While a final decision on this matter is still pending, HEFA hereby confirms that it will test the waters by entering the Nemyan Swiss Cheese Cup.

A new squad of dream simulacra - this time not consisting entirely of World Cup Hall of Fame legendtm Juan Tzimisces - will be announced shortly.

As per a short IRC conversation, Starblaydia's Under-21s will be signing up. For those not in the know, 'Nemya' refers to a channel of water in Atlantian Oceania, named after an ex-nation that was enveloped into Starblaydia's borders. This straight also flows around Legalese and Casari, so that's why Starblaydia gets to break the no-Dragonnii-Thingyii-participants-rule.

Third England would like to sign up to your World Cup. We're new to this whole thing so excuse our collective ignorance if problems ensues.
Third England

Third England favours an offensive 4-3-3 formation with a speedy right flank and a tightly back defensive line. Our star players are primary goal scorer, Daniel Walmsley and highly skilled attack-midfielder Tazy Orkin. Below is the probable line up for the team.

Goal Keeper= Micool Vansleve
Right Back= Samuel Overend
Centre Back= Andrew McGrath
Centre Back= Gary Allister
Left Back= Pete Marco
Right Midfield= Chad Ickleback
Attack Midfield= Tazy Orkin
Left Midfield= Narpinho
Right Wing= Tom Overend
Centre Forward= Daniel Walmsley
Left Wing= Tom Wareing

Coach= Darius Von Sommel

While the interchange bench has yet to be announced, rumours of an up and coming young star from the minor leagues are spreading through the media.

In other news, Third England coach, Darius Von Sommel has denied allegations that Dayport United FC's star midfielder, Narpinho is a genetic reproduction of English soccer great, Gary Linekar. He is quoted as saying in a recent press release; "If I was ever going to actually clone a player, I'd at least duplicate a half decent player like Vinnie Jones or Eric Cantona. Linekar's a f**king sook."

Further investigations into the allegations have been discontinued.

Who, invariably, will also likely be from Legalese :-P

With Bedi's entry via IRC, we're now up to 15. The tournament will start next Tuesday, with the draw on Monday. If we have an even number, great. If not, a team from the top level of Legalese Domestic Soccer, The Leaguealese, will be entered with a relatively low rating. More on that if need be.

No need to. How the hell could I keep you guys out? ;)

Signups will be open through Monday, closing at 1:00 PM U.S. Eastern Daylight Time, which would be 6:00 PM in the UK, 7:00 in Central Europe, and other various equivalents for all others. The draw will be held within the hour after signups close, and will determine the first round matchups.

Just wanted to say I hope this is a great tourney for all of you. And there were no hard feelings about not allowing nations participating in my tourney to compete here.

I was about to post my own group draws when I decided to double check things here. The Islands of Qutar have entered in this tourney first, so I will follow the example of the rules that were outlined here and scratch them from mine in favor of another entrant. I do not want to cause any hard feelings either. Have a great time.

Hey, it's no problem. You've done a great job with your offseason tourney, and I hope I'm not stealing any of your thunder. I figure there's room for the both of us, with all these RPers :)

Last call for signups!

The list will be closed either at 10 PM EDT tonight (that's 3:00 GMT, I think), or if only one more team jumps in beforehand, as soon as the list evens out.

Also, there will be a seperate RP thread. It will be posted after the draw.
