An Introduction to Mind Sickness

Mind Sickness

Hello. It's been a long while since I last posted here in the NationStates forum. I used to run the country Omni-Psychotia, but through neglect on my part that country no longer exists.
However, I've been building a new nation over the last year or so, and think it's about time I introduce it to the forums.
So, whithout further ado; I present to you The Tainted Lands of Mind Sickness:

In the Beginning
The last days of the Omni-Psychotic empire were short ones; a raging war with the Ornery Bastards (NOTE: Orner Bastards is also no more, due to my friend getting bored with NationStates) left the massive island a smoldering wasteland of radioactive rubble. The once great civilization was reduced to a handful of bomb shelters filled with the meek, huddled masses. One hundred and fifty years passed before the survivors were able to leave their shelters and repopulate the land above ground.

As the shelters emptied, the people formed loose communities that had little to no contact with one another. The land was harsh and desolate; survival took presidence over communal relations. Over time, the people began to revert to the barbaric systems they had long before the great Psy Peterson penned the historic constitution of Omni-Psychotia. The communities became tribes; each one having it's own symbol (which each tribe member had tatooed somewhere on their body).

Centruies passed; and the industrious people began to forget most of their illustrious history. Eventually, the once great civilization of Omni-Psychotia faded into legend, and then myth. The tribes (13 in all) grew quickly, and eventually were forced to interact with each other due to land claim disputes. Bloody wars were fought for several decades, when finally the chief of each tribe met with one another and drew up borders.

As more generations came and went, the people of the wastes began to question the effectiveness of a feudal system. One man, Chief Salados of the Web tribe, drew up his 'Theory of Co-Existence'; the document that the current government of the nation now known as Mind Sickness is based on. Salados was lauded as a genius, and was named the sole foundind father of Mind Sickness. His theory outlined a system of economic feudalism; each tribe forming it's own economy and competing country-wide with the other tribes. Instead of open warfare, coporate battles were fought. Instead of soldires and generals, lawyers and economists were on the front lines. The system stimulated growth in technology and social systems, and rocketed the nation to the point where it is today.

Present Day
Mind Sickness became so named in honour of the mythical Psy Peterson; but his teachings of social benevolence are no longer remembered. Mind Sickness is a powerful, isolationist nation that is home to 13 provinces. Each province is, in effect, it's own nation, and only needs to follow certain national laws. National laws are decided by the Counsil, which is composed of the provincial Chiefs. The Counsil delegates interprovincial relations, and passes the laws of Commune (a 14th province that ruled by the Counsil directly; it is a common ground for all the people of Mind Sickness). Each member of the Counsil is also the CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation. The old ways of deciding a leader through trial by combat has been replaced by a trial by profit; the CEO of the most profitable company in a province becomes the chief of said province.

The atmosphere of each individual province is deeply rooted in tribal history; each tribe has developed it's own style of corporate government. Open war seems to be a thing of the past, but each corporation has it's own well trained army, and there is always violent conflict going on behind the scenes. Although competition is fierce, the provinces co-exist beautifully; creating a capitalist paradise for the wealthy.

The following is a list of the fourteen provinces and the corporations that lead them:
1. Commune - The common provice, ruled be the Counsil.
2. Web - Wesell; Ormus Brannigan, CEO (professional marketeers and admen)
3. Stone - MotoLord; Stevvin Umbridge, CEO (also known as the 'Machine Nation'; leader in all mechanical sectors, including military vehicles)
4. Flame - Fire Rain; Raddick Bouger, CEO (weapons manufacturer)
5. Wind - Cyberscape; Ulala Redpath, CEO (computers and other information technology; works closely with FutureTech of the Sun province)
6. Light - Brainchild Industries; Dhala Tulsa, CEO (finacial think tank and banking empire)
7. Darkness - Shade Mercenary Company; Morris Clacutta, CEO (highly trained mercenary company; many businesses buy their armies here)
8. Sand - Screen Message; Torque Travis, CEO (powerful film and media agency; some say the most powerful of all the corperations simply because they seem to have the most influence over the general public)
9. Gem - DeepShaft; Beathia Norman, CEO (mining and manufacturing industry)
10. Beast - Beast Province Wildlife Preserve; Casper Ohio, CEO (a wildlife and nature preserve on the surface; a butchery, logging and wood manufacturing industry behind the scenes)
11. Leaf - Cannon Resorts; Richard Cannon, CEO (tourist trap, and the province most visited by foriegn visitors)
12. Sun - FutureTech; Yew Baasterd, CEO (leading force in scientific research that focuses mostly on medicine, genetics and nanotechnology; works closely with Cyberscape of the Wind province)
13. Moon - Happniness; Berd Stanton, CEO (drug, alcohol and cigarette manufacturer; supplies ever poison of choice to anyone with the money)
14. Blood - A barren wasteland in the southern-most area of the island; the Blood tribe that once ruled here died out (or seemed to) in the tribal wars of long ago. Now the land is simply a dangerous desert home to vicious cannibals and violent gangs of bandits. Many people flee to here to avoid the wrath of vexed corporate entities.

So there you have it; the nation of Mind Sickness. Just thought I'd introduce it since I think I'll be coming back to RPing here (Gaiaonline sucks ass for RPing, and I'm sick of it).
