Rugby Union World Cup V

The Rugby World Cup is to once again be brought back to international competition. This year's host is Haraki. However, some noticeable differences will be seen from the previous Rugby Union World Cups. Most noticeable is the difference in score creation. This year, as opposed to the use of Starblaydia's Excel calculator, the scores will be generated using a new system created by me. It means more work for the host (me) but it still works well. Also, it only gives you a score. Previously Starblaydia's scorinator would inform you what different types of goals your team scored. The new system will give you only a score, meaning it is up to you to decide how your team got that score.

Roleplaying is encouraged in this competition, although as always it only gives you a slight bonus. It will not guarantee victory in any way. RPing can be any In Character comment, whether a press conference, game writeup, roster announcement, interview, or whatever else you can think of.

A few notes:
Any rankings that existed from previous cups will be erased. All teams start back at zero. This is because of the difference in score generation. A ranking of ten with the previous scorinator would have made you practically unbeatable, whereas the new one only gives you a slight leg up on the competition.

For more information on the rules and positions in Rugby Union, see the Rugby Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_union) entry in Wikipedia.

You must post in this thread to be entered in the Cup. All nations that sign up will be accepted until a deadline is set.

Feh, if it's not in the Second Division, it's not a proper union team. Until we get promoted again, because I'm like that, fickle.

I am not saying 20 is or should be the final number of entrants but it would be good to get to at least that, so 1 1/2 to go...
Haraki

I think I'm going to put San Haven in the running unless they specifically say they don't want to be, which brings us to 19 nations signed up. No deadline yet.

Thank you.

P.S. Not to mention we will pick up all the messes that the nation's national animal, the lemur, may make.
Haraki

Can Hong Kong signup?

No ... but MeusDomus can.

Signups updated. Signups will continue until Friday April 28th, at which point I will close signups and post groups as well as an RP thread for rosters, pre-RP and such. The actual Rugby World Cup will begin on Monday May 1st with scores.

The Sacredicity Saints (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Sacredicity_Saints), of the now defunct Rugby Premier League (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rugby_Premier_League) will represent the nation of PopularFreedom.

The Sacredicity Saints play in the town of Sacredicity which is located 370 Kilometres north of the capital of Locke Harbour (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Locke_Harbour) on the east coast of the nation of PopularFreedom (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom).

One of the more recent articles in the national newspaper about the team can be found here:

2006-Feb-21 Saints gear up for rugby tilt at home (http://www.geocities.com/PopularFreedomTicker/2006-02-21-001.html)

The nation of PopularFreedom has an avid rugby history with the top league, the PRL (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/PopularFreedom_Rugby_League), currently engaged in play (which the Saints will be joining in the 2007 season, hence their availability to play now).

We look forward to Sacredicity's inclusion in this event.

Sincerely, Roland Miramik
Minister of Athletics

Sign-ups are now closed. With 22 nations signed up, there will be two groups of six and two groups of five, with two qualifiers from each group. They will go directly to a round of eight (Quarter-finals) which will be single elimination matches. I'll get a thread up with group draws and for RPing, rostering and scores soon.

EDIT: Link to the thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=479922)
