Under 21 World Cup 21 Roleplay and Scores Thread

Total n Utter Insanity

I'll be talking to people in #sport about the new formula, getting input and opinions after this cup is over. 2 Cups should be enough to get an idea of how well it performs.

As always any solely OOC posts in this thread will be punished harshly, so take bitching to the disc thread.

Draw will be made sometime within the next 48 hours.

The press has picked out the two major players for the Lisburn Mateys' under 21 squad as Keith Livingston and Andrew Stewert, both of whom are set to be starters for the full national squad.
Andrew Stewert is currently the Young player of the year in the Primerio Liga in the Commonwealth of Lisburn Mateys, he likes to get up and support his winger while also doing the hard tackling at the back.
Keith Livingston is everything you want in a midfielder , vision, creativity, work rate and killer pass. He is a perfect box to box midfielder and works tirelessly for the whole game. Also a set piece expert with a dangerous right foot, and a natural choice as a captain.

Formation: 3-3-2-2

The Young Zucchinis (Under-21 Side)

Note: Roster is susceptible to change

Coach: Dovid Yekhanurov - 62
After a disappointing first season in charge of the Young Zucchinis, Yekhanurov has once again set himself an ultimatum for this tournament. If the Young Zucchinis fail to progress past the first stage, this will be his final tournament as manager. We think it will not. With a whole new look to the team, this team looks promising and early signs show this team could surpass all expectations laid on them.

Starting 11

GK: Nikolai Ashkenazy (FC Spartak Vostochno) – 20
Ashkenazy has improved tremendously since his last Under-21 Cup 4 years ago. His height at 197 cm will certainly stand him in good stead, especially after improving his overall competence to a competitive level.

LB: Chiang Hee Liang (Sino FC) – 19
A quick and fit defender with a well timed tackle, Hee Liang also has a decent touch on the ball.

CB: Federico Perón (Iberia CF) – 16
One of the youngest starters in this very young team, Perón is another fit defender with a well timed tackle.

RB: Charles-Marie Aristide (Gallo FC) – 17
One of the players with the most potential in this squad, Aristide is lightning quick with a good tackle and touch. Such is his talent that he has been guaranteed a starting place in the Gallo FC lineup.

LWM: Jean-Edouard Cousteau (Gallo FC) – 19
Cousteau is another talented youngster from among the Gallo FC ranks. Strong with good dribbling ability, Cousteau also has good fitness for a 19 year old. His passing and pace are also not to be underestimated.

CDM: Peter Arne Josephson (Nordic IF) – 19
Josephson is one of the rocks in the Nordic midfield, his tackling ability and fitness making him an early contender as a long term replacement for Chekhov in the senior National setup.

RWM: Gabriel Boito (AC Romanic) – 19
Yet another talented winger from Romanic, Boito continues in the tradition of Tartini and di Zampieri of providing quality service from the right wing. His incisive passes and crosses coupled with his brilliant vision make him a player to be feared in this side. His tackling, ball control and pace are also above average.

CAM: Franz zum Mies (Deutsch SV) – 16
One of the brightest talents to come out of Giant Zucchini, zum Mies has been hailed as ‘the next Johann Rilke’ for his powerful and accurate shot, as well as overall ability that gives him the air of a much older player. However, only time will tell if he lives up to his sky high potential.

CAM: Carel Hals (FC van Frankenland) – 16
Another brilliant attacking talent that only needs to be groomed and polished into one of Giant Zucchini’s greatest stars. Already at the tender age of 16, Hals has passing vision beyond most players, as well as shooting ability that will more than test most goalkeepers. Given some time, Hals could well take the whole of NationStates by storm.

CF: Hans Jääskeläinen (Nordic IF) – 20
A talented striker, Jääskeläinen was left out of the last call-up, but has returned with a bang, straight into the starting line-up. Armed with a good first touch, Jääskeläinen also has the pace, as well as the shooting and heading ability to trouble most defences.

CF: Michelangelo Concici (AC Romanic) – 20 – 3 caps/1 goal – Captain
The only player to return from the last Under-21 tournament, Concici was and still is one of the bright sparks of this squad. Captaining the squad this time, Concici is armed with a strong tackle, decent control, decent heading, and technically the best shooting skill and variety in the squad. Furthermore, his experience at this level will stand him as well as the whole squad in good stead.

Bench

GK: Kenji Shimura (Nihon Dawn) – 18
Shimura is a fit goalkeeper with good positional sense, as well as decent skills at this level. However, he has problems commanding his box and smothering balls off his line.

LF: Jami Saarinen (Iberia CF) – 20
One of the most prolific strikers in the Premiership this season, the attacking half of the Saarinen brothers is armed with instinctive finishing ability. However, his poor first touch and lack of strength could play against him at this level.

CB: Christian Hunyadi (Deutsch SV) – 17
One of the toughest defenders in the Premiership, this young no nonsense centre half also has acceleration and pace in abundance, making him one of the most feared players in the squad.

CM: Anthony van Bergkamp (FC van Frankenland) – 17
A player with magnificent creative vision and the passing capability to achieve it, van Bergkamp also has the dribbling ability to perform mazy runs around opposing defences. However, he lacks strength as well as the finishing killer touch to score.

LM: Hendrik Koolhaas (FC van Frankenland) – 18
Hendrik Koolhaas has football in his blood. The son of Willem Koolhaas, who played 8 professional games and scored 4 in the process for FC van Frankenland, Hendrik lacks the finishing ability of his father, but makes up for it in terms of creative ability, with good passing and dribbling skills.

Reserves

GK: Sven Saarinen (Nordic IF) – 20
The other half of the Saarinen brothers, Sven is technically the most skilled of the three goalkeepers in the squad, but he has serious positioning problems.

CB: Jürgen Luder (Deutsch SV) – 18
One of the quickest defenders in Giant Zucchinis, Luder also has a good head on the ball. However, he still has a long way to go to be competent at this level consistently.

CDM: Ingvar Krag (Nordic IF) – 16
Another defensive rock in the Nordic midfield, Krag has good strength and ball control. However, his passing, tackling, shooting and heading still need to worked on.

RF: Jacques-Louis Plessis (Gallo FC) – 19
One of the contenders with the best chance of walking away with the Golden Boot this season in the Premiership. Plessis may not offer much on paper, but his pace and finishing ability will cause more than a few problems.

CB: Pablo Elcano (Iberia CF) – 17
A good tackler of the ball, Elcano also has decent passing and heading abilities.

RB: Henri Besson (Gallo FC) – 17
Besson has a good tackle and pace and touch to match. However his passes are mostly misplaced and he lacks the strength needed to compete at this level.

Least turnover ever in Milchama U21 roster

In a semi big suprise the Milchama U21 roster is almost the exact same as last time with 6 starters the same as last time and having the exact same midfield as the last cup. Only Casey Stockholm and all the strikers have been replaced with new blood for this cup. Some of these names have become quite familiar to Milchamians through other means of digesting soccer we assure you.

Gk: Kyle Blard- The Goalkeeper for Wickert AFC helped them win the Milchama Cup last year and got him on the national team picture. Now he's hoping to show it was no fluke.
D: Keith Fleesh- A very young but athletic defender. Some have called him the new Mills Thompson for his prowess in the air. He can do much more as his overall play have been very promising and have helped Megan Illavsky FC get to the second division.
D: Chase Mergle- Very fast for a centerback and that allows him to cover a lot of ground in a very short time. His speed has helped the Mongolian Horses avoid relegation this year.
D: Martin Hansen- A lot like Casey Stockholm on the other side. The only difference being Stockholm is a little bit better on the ball and Hansen is a little bit better on the defensive side. Made a great partnership in friendly games.
M:Barrett M. Lonnen- Destined to be the next great Milchamian player. How can we tell? He has the middle initial that he puts in his name that nobody knows what it stands for like Marc J. Floren. Can help the counter attack.
M: Del Clufor- A little speedy center mid. Does not have the passing skills of Antoine Sanchez but his little runs thru the defense remind people of a mix between Johnny Rintell and Darian Flinters.
M: Walto Manin- Great Name. A much more traditional wing than Flinters of Kilinin but his crosses and passes look more like a center midfielder than a wing.
F: Marin Keffer- Was a starting midfielder for the Milchama B team at 15 but did not make last U21 squad because of a mistake by Patrice Thibault. This time a starter and he wants to show Thibault he made a bad mistake.
F: Kelvin Joseph- A natural scorer who was an outside shot to make the team before going on a scoring rampage for Milchama Warriors to get onto the squad.
F: Tilar Flitty- Another weird name but Flitty can play. His wonderful goals have made him a great story for the Mongolian Horses espiecially since he is a native mongol. The first great soccer star from the Mongols the pressure on the world is on him and it will be up to him to make a good response.
F: Daveed Blendelcar- A good winger, Bendelcar barely made the starting over Barrett Miggles. Bendelcar needs to have some good performances or else Miggles will come in and take his spot.
Substitutes:
F: Barrett Miggles
M: Marcus Lyles
Gk: Fletcher Roy
D: Ryan Mcferrin

Cuation
09-04-2006, 19:26
OC: you may do anything in regards rp with Cuation and the matches. Be a tad annoyed if you killed off five players in one match but you can do so.

Roster

4-4-2 formation

GK: Jude Tanner- Star player-20

Hoping to break ino the first team soon, his performances have prevented his club from going down. Plays fair but can be absent minded on the pitch. Slow off his line.

LB: Garren Grestky -17-

Weak link in the defence, slow and absent minded. Can be a good defender if he concentrates

RB: Gary Cole -21

Can slot in anywhere along the back line, he is solid at youth level. Inferoir version to his older brother Philip Cole

CB: Mickey Dawlawn -19

Great at recovery, he is a useful defender. Lacks authroity nand can be found slow against pacy skillful players

CB: Micky Huddle-17-

A natrual defender, he drops back to help the team. Solid in the tackle, he is a good passer who is liable to dribbble too much.

LM: Joe Fallen-20

A trick pony. When not hogging the ball, he can be so useful to the team with his deadly balls. Too often he wastes things by keeping the ball too long

RM: Chris Lewis -18-captian

Great player, he will soon break into the first team squad. Can play in centre, at full back and either wing. Also plays up front. Has a habit of hitting the post, will be needed if Cuation are to do well.

CM: Jhon Carrot

Orange haired angry holding player. Crunches in the tackle, not a nice player or man.

CM: Patrick Lanie-21

More defensive then is perhaps good for the team, hot tempered, he can run the game. Strong on the ball, good tackler, decent passer, without him the midfield could be outmuscled.

ST: Lu Fei- 20

Strong player, he is the target man. Will hold the ball up if needed and so often first to the long ball.

ST: Gio Sung-19-

A winger turned striker, he will often drift out wide. Solid and relible, he can drop back into midfield

Style: A counterattacking team, they like to play it on the ground. Lack team work and while they have a few quality players.

Lisburn Mateys
09-04-2006, 21:40
A late squad change

Due to the recent announcment that the Baptism of Fire tournament is also due to be held over the comming weeks the Manager Of the National Squad Paul Kirk has decided to call up the promising wing back Andrew Stewert.

In a leaked FA board conference tape attained by the Lisburn Star, it was revealed that Paul Kirk had wanted to call up playmaker Keith Livingston and Christopher Reims, however many members of the board argued it would leave the under 21 side too 'weak' and therefore the board room politics allows the under 21 side to retain most of their best players. The Commonwealth of Lisburn Mateys therefore will only bring 20 players to the tournament

U21C22 up and running

Oh yes, it's the junior's team time to get attention. Once again the senior team made the 2nd round of the World Cup and well, hopefully the U21 team can make it into the quarter finals for once as they haven't done so for a while. The silly thing is the lousy U21 teams are great World Cup teams.

Jeruselem's roster

Formation: 4-3-2-1

Coach: Mr X (real name unknown)

GK - Betty Boop - 14, small girl but flexible as a rubber band
GK - Veronica Maysmith - 17, more like brick wall

DEF - Cain MacBeth - 16, rough player but effective
DEF - Able MacBeth - 15, Cain's brother, but more skilled and less nasty
DEF - "Stumpy" Moshe Gonda - 13, he's short but can run like the wind
DEF - Penny Gadget - 16, free kick specialist. Likes David Beckham
DEF - Joseph Hermit - 15, sits in defense most of his life

DEF/MID - Ima Blocka - Ex-goalkeeper who got bored being a goalkeeper

MID - WB Tree - 16, Relative of GW Shrub, roundhouse kicker like Chuck Norris (or tries)
MID - Olmat Masha - 20, late maturer. Captain of the team
MID - Smaski Duboski - 17, likes to run (alot)
MID - Carrie Fisher - 16, better known for her bra flashing after scoring

MID/STR - Robert Hoot - Never seems to score, but does help out the strikers.

STR - Takahashi Masurashi - 15, tackler and ball thief
STR - Geoff Shout - 14, small kid but kicks the ball really hard
STR - "Druggie" Bob Dopan - 16, Completely useless or deadly, depending on the medication on day
STR - Keanu Reeves - 18, good looking and turned up in some movie called the "Soccertrix"

Oh yes, we're in Group F. Oh look we have 3 U21 finalists and winners in this group including twice winners (us) and Fmjphoenix. Hockey Canada our friends aren't exactly slouches either! We do feel sorry for Haraki.

Ronan Tynes felt it was a clear as the nose on his face: Macarius Ransome was out to get him.

There wasn't a doubt in his mind, Ransome wanted nothing more than kick Tynes out to the curb and install a coach he liked more to this coveted U-21 spot.

It's not like Tynes loved this job and would kill to keep it. He wasn't really a coach by trade. He had started a sports journalist, became a scout, and had worked his way up to serving as General Manager of the Peregrin Royal Blues Football Club when he was offered the post. And, like any good Becquerelian, he was always ready to serve his country, so he took the job.

He wasn't really the coach, per se, he left the real coaching to his always underrated assistants, he just kept on the lookout for the best young talent for the team. He had always been known as a good judge of talent, which is why he got the job in the first place. That had been Ransome's grand plan for the U-21 team in the first place: find the best talent, develop it, and send it along to the national team (and Ransome) to win championships and tournaments and glory (for Ransome).

The problem quickly became apparant: Ronan Tynes didn't seem like a very good coach, and the press seized on it. Of course he'd compare unfoavorably to the photogenic and likable Ransome. Tynes looked more like a accountant, and had a accountant's sensiblities to boot. The press, always so compliant for Ransome, beat up on Tynes, calling him a personaliy-less robot, and more of bureaucratic pencil-pusher than football coach. While it may have been more or less correct didn't mean Tynes cared for it much.

Ronan was sure that Ransome would have him forced out if he did poorly. The press was reporting grumbling from the National Football Federation about his poor performance at the Ylompics, even though Tynes had taken a group of nobodies past the group stage, and Ransome had just blown a shot at getting past the group stage in the Cup of Harmony (much to Mr Chuck Norris' news organization's delight).

So, as Tynes prepared the U-21 roster for the World Cup, he hoped he had put together a group good enough to show Macarius Ransome just how wrong he was.

PSN's comprehensive U21 preview!

The stage for Under-21 World Cup 21 has been set as 32 teams begin their tussling for the top prize. One will emerge as the superior squad, while thirty-one will go home in varying stages of unhappiness. For the Blue Foxes, the last two U21WCs have been comparatively successful, with two straight third-place finishes behind Fmjphoenix and Hockey Canada.

But Hockey Canada's squad is no longer what it used to be and the Blue Foxes and Junior Vikings are nearly on-par in terms of on-paper and on-field talent. This time it could be different for the Blue Foxes. And with Massimo da Scupeta able to return for one more cup due to the earlier scheduling of this U21WC, he might actually get his first taste of glory with this extra chance.

Let's take a look at the groups now:

Group A
Bettia, The Footie Dream Team, Hypocria, Bazalonia

A strong group featuring a former top 5 team and a current top 8. Bettia's ascent to the Elite Eight has been constant and admirable. Look for good finishes in the group stage by all four teams, but we will take Bettia and Hypocria (narrowly over Footie Dream Team) for the qualifying teams from Group A.

Group B
Milchama, Iksonic, Boudra-Boudra, Magnus Valerius

Group B is the characteristic nobodies group in this U21. Milchama's team, however, are not nobodies so it should be a walk in the park for the Milchamians to qualify. Still, the second qualifying spot is definitely up for grabs by any of the three remaining teams. Look for a late surge by Magnus Valerius to grab second and advance.

Group C
Bedistan, CR Oscilloscopes, Nedalia, The Resurgent Dream

A strong group featuring two regulars and two relative newcomers, but all with a rich sporting history. Bedistan's U21 experience has been inconsistent, reminiscent of the early Blue Fox experiences, but in this group we like their chances to qualify. However, Nedalia will emerge the top squad in Group C. CRO and TRD will have respectable but just-not-good-enough performances.

Group D
Starblaydia, Liverpool England, The Islands of Qutar, Spruitland

This is probably the toughest group in this U21WC, with two top 10 teams and a third with solid U21 experience. The battle for the qualifying spots might actually be impossible to decipher beforehand in Group D, but we'll take Starblaydia as the first-place squad post-group stage and a fierce battle between Liverpool England and Spruitland for that second qualifying spot.

Group E
Cuation, Chicanada, New Montreal States, Andossa Se Mitrin Vega

A competitive group featuring the talents of four teams with previous experience in Under-21 World Cups. ASMV's Junior Dragons have done very well in the past few U21WCs and Chicanada experienced a period of strength in the "teen" cups (U21WC13-17), with consistent top-10 ranking. This group is unclear, but we might take ASMV and NMS as the qualifying teams.

Group F
Jeruselem, Haraki, Fmjphoenix, Hockey Canada

Crikey! The former second-seed in a group with a former third-seed and the defending champions. No way. Still, this group does not appear as tough as Group D thanks to the slow decline in the Jeruselem team and the sudden loss of talent in Hockey Canada's. Expect Fmjphoenix to easily score a 3-0 record with Jeruselem battling Hockey Canada down to the wire for that second spot.

Group G
Schiavonia, Lisburn Mateys, Nouvelle Angleterre, East Lithuania

This group looks like it will be fun to watch, not only because there is a team returning after a short U21 hiatus, but because it contains Schiavonia. If their senior WC team tells any story, it's that Schiavone football is a great thing to watch, so fans will be hoping for the same thing from their juniors. PSN takes Schiavonia and Lisburn Mateys as the qualifying teams in Group G.

Group H
Yafor 2, Pacitalia, Giant Zucchini, Becquerelia

Once more unto the breach with the Yaforites, dear friends? Seems to be the story, as for the second-straight U21WC, political allies, and thus friendly sporting rivals, Yafor 2 and Pacitalia are seeded into the same group, and it again is Group H. Last time, Pacitalia took the top spot and qualified with Tonissia lagging behind but still earning that second spot over a disappointed Yaforite squad. Comparing the squads now, this might be Yafor 2's year. The U21s in Ajer have been practising hard trying to get in top form and it looks like it has paid off in spades. GZ and Becquerelia have strong teams but PSN is simply unsure that, in the face of strong squads like the Blue Foxes and Silver Wolves, they will be able to overcome such obstacles and qualify. We'll take Pacitalia in the top spot with Yafor 2 taking second.

Silver Wolves Roster

* - denotes starter

Manager: Isilvarnon Moraedenshar - Ramen United (LIDYT First Division). Moraedenshar is one of the top managers in the entire LIDYT. He is regarded as an expert with younger players and amteurs, having experience in both fields. Nonetheless, with the LIDYT season in full swing, he is not expected to divert all his time to the Under-21 World Cup. His performance in the last Under-21 World Cup was rudimentry, but succeeded in what he was trying to do. Now, with the hopes of a sport-failing nation on his back, he looks to bring the Yaforites to sporting glory.

*1) Imon Juile (16), Goalkeeper. Juile is quite easily a starter. While, according to LIDYT regulations, is not allowed to participate, is still thye up-and-coming star of the LIDYT systems. Juile is althetic (some Universities looked to recruit him to basketball) and lithe, with strong arms and legs. His 6'4" frame is good in goal, where he shines on the field.

2) Vyas Huve'ed (19), Goalkeeper. Huve'ed is a journalist's dream story. He was born into poverty in a small tribe in the Killany Mountains. His people were relocated during the change of that area into a national park, and on the journey, his father perished, falling off of a cliff. His mother soon followed, with diease her killer. Somehow, the young boy survived and is now on the field, a back-up, but glad to be somewhere.

*3)Loerd Kiserta (18), Right Defender. Kiserta, son of a steel tycoon, has had, throughout his life, the best of everything. He has enhanced his love of the sport, playing on flat, green, grass and with former stars as his coaches. A child like that is bound to succeed, especially when money comes into play with a broke Football/Soccer Federation.

4)Point Yuiolko (16) Right Defender. Yuiolko is tough, on the field and off. Of all of the myriad of Yaforite U-21 Players, he has attracted the most attention, from his consistent antics on the field, to his behavior off. He had been in jail eleven times, and has been suspended more. He is fairly skilled, but his behavior does not guarentee he will succeed in the future.

*5)Lhatis Riegan (17) Center Defender. Riegan is one of the star defenders of the team. A midfielder at heart, he agreed to try this position which would more uniquely suit his body frame and skills. He had since excelled, showing skill and maturity that are reserved for people far past his age and his experience. A game breaker, Riegan usually faces off with the opposing star and, more often than not, wins.

*6)Klientar Loverado (17) Center Defender. In Riegan's shadow, Loverado is able. He has the body skill and the structure that a defender needs, but is not nearly as skilled as his counterpart. However, he is tough and is rarely injured, and would be an asset on any LIDYT team.

*7)Omon Nomo (18) Center Defender. "Nomo! Nomo!" his fans cheer when he comes on to the field. He is quite a well known star, ever since he made it to the Imperial Yaforite Top Footballers/Soccer Plays List in a surprising 6th. Women swoon over his face and his endorsements are nearing the record set by Iktam Velastros (who, ironically, was 5th in the list). Regarded by some as the natural successor, his success here will guarentee Yaforite success in the long run.

*8)Vihada Re'es (15) Left Defender. Re'es is a loner. Not much is known about him, his family, or anyone close to him. He shuts the press out of his life, and follows no one. His teammates barely know him, but he can certainly play the game well!

9)Plot Tlop (20) Left Defender. A fairly obese back-up, Tlop no doubt only made it on the team after his parents, two rich lawyers, gave a massive donation to the IYF/SA.

*10)Vierd Kiersones (16) Right Midfielder. Kiersones is tough and fast. His skills are many, with ball control the most important part. He is, in some ways, an integral part of this defense, for he often shuts down the opposing midfielder, cutting down the opponent's plan. Kiersones is fast and can outpace most players on the circuit, but his medium-sized body and fair height often make teams overlook or ignore him.

11)Poerta Nueveles (20) Right Midfielder. A back-up to Kiersones, Nueveles is also good. Though slightly chubby anf older, Nueveles can handle the ball with a magnificence the dazzles the opponent. He has a tendancy to dribble forever, and then, finally, lose the ball, but he rarely stays in long enough to do that much damage.

*12)Mosada Juhan (16) Center Midfielder. Juhan is often lost in the buzz of the Yaforite media. The real stars are always the defense in Yafor 2, but it is Juhan who holds the attack together. He doesn't take flamboyent shots, nor steal the glow with amazing passes, but his simple mastery of the basics of the game are what keep the offense intact the whole time.

13)Loiuniou Pasanda (18) Center Midfielder/Defender. A versitile back-up, Pasanda is skilled, but is, in some ways, a "super-substitute" who can play all positions with average skill when someone, a start usually, is injured. It takes real will to do that, and will is something Pasanda has in plenty.

*14)Hierna Klienta (19) Left Midfielder. A fast, tough, smart midfielder, Klienta often seems like a defender, with his mentality tilted that way. But most Yaforite players are like that, great believers in the power of the defense. But when Klienta scores on a thunderous shot, is it difficult to remember what his real skills are.

15)Dikerast Poverino (20)Left Midfielder. A back-up who contrasts with Klienta immensely, in that he attacks and often seems like a starting midfielder. Sometimes, coaches and managers use the two in a tandem to befuddle the other team and the opposing players. It often succeeds, in fact.

*16)Zyante Meleherat (18) Striker. Meleherat is the headline-maker, the man with the headers and surprise goals, and the fancy moves, and all the rest of it. He is not overly concieted in his private life, but on the field, with his ring of long hair flying about his face, he seems like the idiot attacker who is always winning.

*17)Imorando Damachelek (18) Striker. A counter to Meleherat's skill, Damachelek always lurks. He has skills in ball handling, but his setting up of Meleherat is masterful. The two are good friends on and off the field, and share dorm rooms together. Teams tend to forget about him, and then he strikes, like a viper. His nickname is also that, "The Viper". And his bite is very, very, deadly.

18) Stuant MacGilesar (20) Striker. A back-up with moderate skill, there is not much to be said about him, except that he only play when the Yaforites are up by six, which hs very rare.

OOC:The Silver Wolves will be playing in a 5-3-2.Opponents will be allowed only to choose scorers and godmode scoring events.

Milchama Favorite, what the hell?

In a very what many are calling a very easy group the Milchama Warriors look to advance. The Warriors are paired with a bunch of U21 first and second timers and no seeded teams are in the group. Coach Patrice Thibault said, "I not only expect an easy advancement in the group, I expect to be undeafeated and maybe even sweep the group with 9 points... This time we have every thing working for us, we have the most expierienced group of Under 21s I have ever coached in my 3 tournaments here and now we have a very easy group that looks to make life easy for the group stages." Of course Milchama has always done well in the group stages all the way to their first U21 World Cup where as a new comer they tied then #1 in the world Hockey Canada 0-0 and went on to win the group in a stunning fashion. Anyway onto the infamous Milchamian predictions:

Group B
Milchama- That's us and for the first time ever a favorite to advance and dominate. This is new and exciting territory and something that we are definitely happy about.
Iksonic- A fellow AO team that did enter a team in AOCAF. Outside of that we don't really know much about them, they are farely new to the international scene so that should mean a smooth victory. 3-0 Milchama.
Boudra-Boudra- Another new team that we don't know much about. Also relatively new to the international as scene by the fact that they are in the BoF. This means that it will be another easy victory for the Young Warriors. They do score a goal though so that means it will be 4-1 Warriors win.
Magnus Valerius- The team Pacitalia picks to go through second in this group. Guess what another new team and another easy victory for the Warriors as they will have news caring about this it will be harder for the Warriors as it will only be a 3-1 win.

Looking easy for the Warriors right now but we have a tendency to screw up so it might get harder.

"Bazacubs Draw first blood" by Nev Gould

In their debut appearance at the Under 21 World Cup the Bazacubs held onto a Draw as the extremely more experienced Footy Dream Team took an early lead. It was in the 29th minute that they scored and it took to the 90th minute for the Bazacubs first real chance for a goal.

Number 10, Ricky Yunn who is also the Captain had the ball and it seemed that the Footy Dream Team defenders had worn themselves out, peforming a major tactical blunder allowing Ricky Yunn, Everrett Kang and Quentin Assington through the defense and and Everrett had received the ball from Quetin and passed it onto the captain, Ricky. Allowing him to score a goal, though it seems that it was a fluke.

Final Score: 1-1

..........

After the match the team where exicted, their first points in the Under 21 world Cup. Caine decided to take them out and celebrate in style. He hoped that nothing would happen like that Peter Hobble incident in the First Draggonnii Invitational but there where no teams that had Werewolves on them so he was safe.

This was a great boost of morale, now all they had to do was face their next opponent. The highest ranked opponent in our group... Bettia.

Haraki's entry into U21 play will be done in an auspicious manner. Being placed in Group 7 along with the defending champions and two powerhouses was not what they had intended. Coach James Moresby commented on it as 'Ouch' as he announced Haraki's starting lineup, with a classic 3-4-3 starting formation. More details on individual players to follow. Jr Dragons Stumble Against Chicanada

The Jr Dragons sent a lot of new faces to the U21s with high hopes of making big noise this time around. The Group Draw was one that our young players are very capable of moving through. Cuation, NMS, and Chicanada are all squads we can beat, but inturn they could all easily beat us as well.
To make things even tougher, Pacitalia picked us to move on along with NMS. Not a very good sign for us. Nothing to do with Paci, but good predictions for us usually fall through.

On MD1 ASMV faced Chicanada. 90 minutes later (some even earlier) ASMV went to the showers after handing Chicanada an easy 2-0 victory.

Malachi James, new coach of the U21s, had this to say. "We sucked. No other way to put it. If we dont get our heads out of our own backsides, this competition will be very short and not so sweet for us."

Matches against Cuation and NMS are very winable. NMS defeated Cuation today and will be hard for us to match up against. Our Cuation friends will offer no easier a match. They want to move on as well.

New look Junior Vikings narrowly edge Jeruselem to gain first win in U21WC21
Boy, do we mean junior!

With an average age of 15.1 in the starting line-up, the Junior Vikings are filling in exactly as the name implies. But unlike normal Juniors, these ones still produced in the clutch with Yoh Asakura bringing in the winning goal in the 88th minute off of a rebounded shot from Brandon Lamar.

Most of the match was a possession struggle, both teams keeping the ball for nearly similar times. Jeruselem's "Stumpy" Moshe Gonda showed that good things come in small packages, always keeping up with the Junior Vikings passes early on, giving possesion right back to them. Despite nearly even possession, Jeruselem had the shot advantice in the first half, taking 6 to Fmjphoenix's 3. James Martin played briliantly though, deflecting away or catching all 6 shots and harmlessly setting them away.

The second half was less eventful, with neither team going anywhere until right at the end when fate lead Asakura's foot to the failed shot of Brandon Lamar to give the Junior Vikings a narrow victory. Two more matches still remain, Haraki and suprisingly enough, Hockey Canada. We know that the Canucks will be looking for revenge for a second straight second place finish in the Under 21 World Cup at the hands of these pesky Junior Vikings.

Squires pipped by Champions!

It's not fun taking on the U21 Champions so early. Fmjphoenix are on the up and Jeruselem haven't made a semi or quarter for a while. Well, just as luck would have it, we played the champions early. It should be noted all but Haraki in Group G have been the finals of U21 at least once.

And we lost, as you'd expect. However we only lost 0-1 and to a goal scored in the 89 minute by Junior Viking Yoh Asakura. Most of the game, it was even with no team having any edge and the Viking's keeper having the usual fantastic game against us.

Poor old "Stumpy" Moshe Gonda was kept busy all day, with the occasional loss of possession which only proved fatal very very late when the defense got tired.

We need to win the next two games really and hopefully the Junior Vikings will their games. Our best hope can beat Haraki and have at least a draw with Hockey Canada, and hope the Vikings beat everyone else.

Hockey Canada drew with Haraki 4 ALL - not like the Canucks to concede 4 goals and Haraki are not going to be easy to defeat.

Nedalia beat Bedistan 3-2? Wouldn't happen in the World Cup, but in the U21 this is not unusual for the Lions to do so well. The Lions have made the finals before and well, they can do it again.

It's Hyppo to be All-Square

Bettia 2 (Vaughan 78, Rhydderch 86)
Hypocria 2

Bettia opened their latest World Cup campaign by making hard work of their eastern neighbours. The Young'Uns were left with a mountain to climb as early as the twentieth minute as the young Hyppos roared into an early two-goal lead. The first came on 13 minutes when some sloppy marking allowed an uncontested header to find its way into the top corner. Just seven minutes later, a pinpoint ball down the middle dissected the Bettian defence allowing the Hypocrian centre-forward an easy one-on-one with Sulaiman, who despite his best efforts was unable to halt his opponents progress.

After a dismal first half showing which the Young'Un's boss described the Bettian players as 'about as much use as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest', the second half was an altogether different affair as they finally upped their game.

Gwarthen Rhydderch had their first meaningful shot on goal on 57 minutes - however, his ambitious long-range effort was easily smothered. More such chances followed until finally the Bettian breakthrough came with little more than ten minutes left on the clock as Egryn Vaughan latched onto a cross from young prodigy Eri Kurniawan, who consistantly sparkling displays have caught the attention of many top clubs. His perfectly executed half-volley saw the Young'Uns reduce their deficit.

Buoyed by this, Bettia continued their assault on the Hypocrian goal, finally exhibiting some of the all-out-attacking flair that has become more evident in Bettian sports. Vauaghan, Al-Jahani and Kurniawan all went close, but it was Gwarthen Rhydderch who finally clinched a point for the green-and-golds courtesy of a sparkling run into the penalty area which eventually saw him deftly chip the ball over the despairing Hypocrian goalkeeper.

Bettia now face Atlantian Oceania newcomers Bazalonia, who look confident after their 1-1 draw against the Footie Dream Team. The Young'Uns need to buck their ideas up if they are to gain any meaningful result here.

The Nedalia (U21) Lions

Experienced Side Wins Derby

Total n Utter Insanity - Fielding 7 players with previous experience in the U21 World Cup has its advantages, as U21 Lions manager Vernon Williams found out against Bedistan.

"Last World Cup, the entire team was made up of newcomers. This time around, while we might be feeling the loss of our former captain Frank Hatim, we have a bunch of players that have been here before, and know how to perform under this kind of pressure," said the manager. "Overall, this was our toughest match on paper during the Group stages, and we came away with the victory. Thats not to say its smooth sailing from here, because obviously we still have a lot of work to do if we want to qualify to the knockout stages."

The player of the match was, without a doubt, the youngest on the pitch. Nedalia has a history of producing talented left wingers, and 15 year old Hassan Bakhwan looks to be next in line. It was the youngster who opened up the scoring in the 18th minute with a fantastic run down the center of the pitch, dribbling by 3 Bedistani defenders before letting loose a scorcher of a shot that beat the keeper.

It was all moans and groans for the Nedalian fans till the halftime whistle, as their northern neighbors quickly countered with 2 goals, the first coming in the 28th minute and the second around the 35th minute mark.

"At halftime, they had their heads down, so I told them look, we have 45 minutes to do what they did in just around 10 minutes. We've been pressuring their goal the entire half, and there is no reason that we cant find 2 goals to give us the 3 points if we put our mind to it," commented Williams.

Indeed, just 4 minutes after the whistle, it was none other than Bakhwan who nailed his 2nd goal of the match, cleverly chipping the ball over the keeper on a well executed counter-attack. With the score tied at 2-2, it was the Nedalian team who decided to attack the opposition's goal, and it paid off. At the 77th minute mark, the 15 year old magician nailed his hat-trick, and the U21 Lions winning goal, with a 30 yard screamer to the top left corner of the goal.

"He's a special kid, I think that much is obvious. Zupera United are lucky to have him, and I'm sure he's going to have some big teams knocking on his door before long. Incredible talent, perhaps the best Ive seen come out of Nedalia. No one has been so good, so young," said his manager.

With Hassan Bakhwan seemingly unstoppable the entire match, the U21 Lions rode out to an impressive 3-2 victory, putting them top of the group. In Group A, Nedalia's fellow Verdena occupants Bettia and Hypocria fought it out to a 2-2 tie in an impressively exciting match, and in Group F, Jeruselem lost out to Fmjphoenix in a hotly contested 1-0 game.

Junior Terminators in stalemate with Bunnies
Liverpool England, founders of the under-21 World Cup, continued their miserable run of form in a tournament one would expect them to have reached the quarterfinals in at least once when they played out a goalless draw with the Spruitland Bunnies. The only flashpoint in the match was when substitute Giondini Miaroça, on a yellow card, squared up to Fredje Cartwiel, who retaliated with a push, resulting in both teams being reduced to ten men with 18 minutes left to play.

Mateys up and running

The Lisburn Mateys under 21 side played their first game ever game this morning against fellow newcomers East Lithuania, in a thrilling 3-3 encounter.
Lisburn Mateys would have every right to be disappointed as they dictated play for most of the game and if it wasnt for a bit of brilliance from East Lithuania in the last 10 minutes, the Mateys may have walk away with a win.

As predicted it was the up and comming golden boy of Matey football that stole the show. Keith Livingston showed what the full national squad are going to miss out on in the BoF, as he was outstanding throughout the entire game. In fact it was Keith that scored the first goal, as he hit an elagant free kick after Neil Livingston (his cousin) was fouled on the edge of the box after 14 minutes.
The second goal came at 34 minutes with Keith Livingston again involved hitting a delicous through ball for Neil Livingston who instead of blasting the ball, cheekily rounded the goal keeper to finish with a simple tap in.
East Lithuania scored at exactly the right time to have a physcological effect on their opposition, scoring just before the teams went in for half time.

Once the second half commenced it seemed that the Mateys scored almost straight away with Christopher Reims running up the left wing to support his winger on that side. He hit a superb cross which met the head of stricker Billy Watson 3 - 1 after 48 minutes

A turning point?
The match stayed pretty even up until the 75th minute when Manager Kenny Shields thinking the game was in the bag decided to take off Keith Livingston to rest for the next game, he was replaced by the inexperienced Jason Schakel. Jason a good player he is, is not the same calibre of Livingston and he couldn't deal with the East Lithuanian midfielders runs and work rate.
East Lithuania scored in the 79th minute after Sam Barnes parried a shot whicg came from 20 yards out and then fell to a Lithuanian striker, who was left with a simple tap in. This set the game up for a tense final ten minutes in which the game opened up and Sam Barnes made some spectacular saves.
On the 88th minute East Lithuania got a corner, with the Mateys sending everyone back to defend it. The cross was swung in a little too close to the goalkepper who, under considerable pressure from the Lithuania forwards decided to punch the ball out, unfortunatly for him it landed straight at the feet of the Lithuania right back who volleyed the ball, which rocketted into the back of the net.

final score 3 - 3

The Lisburn Mateys football board are today said to be disappointed in manager Kenny Shields decision to take off Keith Livingston as it was them that stepped in to stop the young star being called up for the BoF

From the Blue Foxes, a shot of Becque-reality
Pacitalia rocks "radioactive" team for first win of U21WC21

TOTAL 'N' UTTER INSANITY (PSN) -- Predictions have been made by Pacitalian media outlets, like ours, that the Blue Foxes will finish first. We never said it would be easy, but after MD1, the U21s have to be feeling relatively confident, taking Becquerelia's defence to task with a remarkable 26 shots on net as the Blue Foxes cruised to a 4-1 victory over the "radioactive" Becquerelians.

The score may not have been so wide-margined had it not been for the stellar defensive play of the Pacitalians, with Veneto Santo Sebastiano, Mario Camanecchia, Ambrosino Terasti and keeper Romano Cristiano Santi working absolute magic. The Becquerelian forwards were hitting the Pacitalians with everything they had, desperate to overturn the predicted Blue Fox win. But it wasn't to be.

The Blue Foxes opened the scoring in the fourth minute with Massimo da Scupeta, excited to have been given another chance to do what he wanted to do - win a U21 World Cup - pocketed an excellent fishbowl strike to the bottom right of keeper Tyrannio Licaussi for the 1-0 lead. 22 minutes later, da Scupeta scored again, this time on a give-and-go with fellow charging forward Afino Boranogunta that ended with a successful redirect past the sprawling Licaussi for the 2-0 advantage.

The home side's defence had only one fault the entire game - it occurred in the 43rd minute as Terasti moved to cut off Gregory Conveniencia's lane on the right side of the box and instead accidentally slid right on the damp ground, ending up at Conveniencia's feet and tripping the Becquerelian forward. That resulted in a penalty shot for the Becquerelians - and Conveniencia capitalised, bouncing the ball off the left goalpost and in. The teams went into halftime with Pacitalia up 2-1.

The second half proved slightly more urgent for the Blue Foxes. Becquerelia knew it could tie with one goal and hold a discouraging lead with one more. The Blue Foxes knew Becquerelia would be throwing everything they had at the Pacitalian defence until one side gave out from fatigue. Such was the Blue Foxes strategy, then, it appeared, that the home squad capitalised on three Becquerelian mistakes, one of which allowed the Blue Foxes to pass from Camanecchia, up to Samatini Telio, then to Fanazori and finally to Boranogunta for a Blue Fox goal in the 60th minute.

And the Blue Foxes nailed the radioactive coffin shut in the 73rd minute when squad captain Bertrando Massimatto performed the sweetest bicycle kick since da Scupeta's amazing one in the 3-2 win over Sarzonia in the U21WC16 group stage, nailing it over the head of Licaussi and notching the score up to 4-1 where it would stay until the end of the match.

Pacitalia plays either Yafor 2 or Giant Zucchini on MD2 of the group stage, the former squad victorious by a 4-2 score over the latter. Pacitalia is now tied with Yafor 2 atop Group H at 1-0-0 but Pacitalia holds the lead by goal differential, +3 to the Silver Wolves' +2.

Seriously. We Used To Be Good

The Autocracy’s Under-21 program has become little more than a joke. Once upon a time we we’re ranked second in the entire world. And now we enter this tournament for a fairly dismal recent record. In fact it all went wrong during the final of Under-21 World Cup 18. It was Hypocria versus Spruitland, two great rivals battling out for the world title. We lost 5 - 0 and it’s gone down hill since then. We haven’t even qualified from the group stages since and that’s despite some very favourable group draws. An entertaining draw with neighbours Bettia is encouraging but meaningless if we go on to lose to Bazalonia and the ludicrous Footie Dream Team. Who knows? Maybe this time we’ll stop the rot. It’s just a question of whether anyone back in the Autocracy is actually watching.

SQUIRES TIP CUATION, WILL BE RENAMED

Darcy, Chan, Hunyadi bury Cuation as Ministry announces re-re-baptism

TOTAL N' UTTER INSANITY - The Squires have played their first and final game as such, beating Cuation in a come-from-behind 3-2 win to start off their U21WC campaign.

After being renamed the Squires, it came to the attention of the Ministry of Morale that the Jeruselem U21 side was also named the Squires, fitting with their main side being named the Crusaders. The Ministry has renamed our U21s the Pages, in order to avoid any confusion.

Squires, Pages, call them what you will, certainly have the ability to keep cool even when trailing 2-1 50 minutes in after Lu Fei put in his second goal of the match, breaking the 1-1 tie from the first half in which André Darcy put in an equalizer one minute after Fei broke the ice with a header off a Patrick Lanie shot that hit the crossbar.

After a disciplined, consistent attack that gave Cuation no shot at breaking out in a counter, midfielder Paul Chan took advantage of a breakdown in the Cuation backfield to drive one home. 2-all, with 20 minutes to play.

Now the match became more even, with both sides moving back and forth. Cuation had several good opportunities in the back but failed to convert, as their team structure broke down again and their passes became easy prey for St-Simard and Laporte to feed the midfield and forwards. After forcing a corner kick, Petr Hunyadi managed to get open long enough to put a winner in. The Pages then dropped back to a 4-6, with Lefleuve and St-Laurent moving back and forwards Zachary Smith and Darcy taking their places in the midfield. The defense held, blunting a late Cuation charge, and the Pages took the first victory as such.

Milchama get first victory

Well so far our prediction is right on as the Milchama Warriors got their first victory agianst Boudra Boudra 2-1. Coach Alex Lans says, "This was an excellent performance from them. They played great the whole way thru, their only goal was a complete fluke and if they can keep this up I'm sure we'll be able to have a great cup." Now onto the match report:

The game started out great for the Milchamians as they started dominating possesion thru Waldo Manin and Del Clufor. This possesion led to a few chances from the offense as Marin Keffer and Kelvin Joseph started to get some good chances. The Warriors were dominating the game as they got 9 shots off in the first 20 minutes. The pressure began to tell on the Boudra Boudra defense and they leaked a goal 22 minutes in when a Barrett M. Lonnon shot hit the far post and rebounded back to Tilar Flitty who doesn't miss from 8 yards out as he scored to make it 1-0 Milchama. The Boudrans? came back as T and Q made some great moves and almost scored but some good defending by Kyle Blard and Chase Mergle prevented goals. After that little 5 minute period the game settled back into Milchamian domination as they tried to increase their lead. Unfortunately the scoring was not so great as both Flitty and Joseph missed chances from close range. The Warriors kept up the pressure though and had some great chances. Unfortunately they could not convert any of them and the halftime score was 1-0.

Second Half report:
The Warriors started off the second half right where they left off at the end of the first half as Barrett M. Lonnon just missed scoring another goal three minutes in. His shot went just wide of the post and kept the Boudrans in the game. A little bit later though the Boudrans shocked the world as after a decent Flitty shot the keeper found Q open and Q made a perfect, and i mean perfect, pass right to T whose shot was great, on target and in to tie the game at 1-1. This infuriated the Warriors who scored a minute later when Walto Manin found Kelvin Joseph alone in the box and Joseph scored to make the game 2-1. After that goal the Warriors again upped the tempo but again their poor finishing got the worse of them as Keffer, Bendelcar and Clufor all missed chances to get goals. The best chance though was in the 84th minute when Clufor's run found open space and his pass found Marin Keffer alone. Keffer's shot was on but it took a last second swerve and hit the post to keep the score at 2-1. Just to show how much Milchamian domination there was here is the number of shots taken:

Milchama: 24, 9 on target.
Boudra Boudra 5, 3 on target.

Final Score:
Milchama 2 (Flitty 22, Joseph 61)
Boudra Boudra 1 (T 60)

Lu Fei Double Not Enough

The Squires final game was an epic 3-2 victory but will now on be known as the Pages to avoid clashing with their friends. Nice of them but could they have been nicer on the pitch, allow us a point? Still they deserved it twice coming back from behind.

Cuation started the better team and it was no suprise to anyone when they scored. Patrick Lanie burst forward but with nobody to really pass to, decided to shoot. It wasn't a bad effort, hitting the crossbar, before any of the defenders could gather it up, Fei headed it in.

Within a minute, the Pages had pulled level, a celerbating Cuation defence allowing André Darcy too much room. Unmarked when the pass reached him, he always looked like scoring, tucking the ball beyond Tanner. With both sides deservdly equal, half time drew to close.

In the 50th minute Gio Sung flicked the ball beyond his marker for Lewis to run onto. Running at full pelt, he pulled the ball back, the cross heading behind Lu Fei. The target man tried an overhead kick, getting enough power to score.

Trying to sit back and hold the lead didn't work. The Pages worked the ball around and made sure Cuation's U21's couldn't counter before the final ball in the 70th minute cuased Mickey Dawlawn and Micky Huddle to crash into each other. Chan trapped the ball on the edge of the box, his sharp drive left the keeper with no chance.

Cuation pushed forward again but there final ball was poor, as frustration grew then play kept breaking down allowed the Pages there own attacks. It was even and nobody would complain with a draw but with four minutes left, Gary Cole deflected a cross behind for a corner. The set play was difficult to read but it fell to Petr Hunyadi. Having just enough space, he smashed the ball into the net. The last few minutes ended up with Cuation desperatly trying to equalise but they got nowhere.

All in all, a big improvment over last cups humliating defeat

"Not lucky enough." by Nev Gould

While the Bazacubs did an amazing performance in their first match against the Footy Dream Team, there was no repeat performance; though it very easily coulld have been. In the 61st minute David Myfanwy had the ball and was making his way towards the Bettian goal, and in an amazing piece of play he managed to pass the ball to Everrett Kang who was in the perfect position to make a shot at goal. However when Everrett kicked the ball it went hard and fast and hit the top of the goal and went straight to a Bettian defender (they where 1-0, in the lead at the time) and in an amazing run of the whole length of the field the Bettians scored there second goal.

The team was dissapointed with their missed opportunity but facing up against Bettia and only loosing by 2 goals? Caine was really pushing the point that the loss was a good result considering this was their first international tourney. Caine woujld not give up, he would get the team to be a well respected force in the U21s.

Hopes of easy win "squashed" by Giant Zucchini
Blue Foxes recover from 2-0 deficit to settle for draw

TOTAL 'N' UTTER INSANITY (PSN) -- The Blue Foxes came into Match Day 2 way too confident, and their cockiness showed in spades in the first half. Giant Zucchini ran up the score early with two goals in the first ten minutes of the match and it took until minute 66 for the Blue Fox offence to kick in, with an equaliser coming in the 79th to salvage one point out of a messy, disappointing affair.

Peter Arne Josephson and Michelangelo Concici scored for GZ, four minutes apart and before the 10th minute was done, striking fear into the hearts of Blue Fox fans that not only would it be an upset match but a score run-up by the GZ team.

But, Afino Boranogunta equalised for the Blue Foxes when Massimo da Scupeta screamed through the left-side defence, watching it buckle while he calmly flicked the ball forward to the left, onto the waiting foot of Boranogunta. The up-and-coming football star then redirected the pass through the arms of the diving GZ keeper to cut the opponents' lead in half with 24 minutes remaining in regulation.

Then, thirteen minutes later, the fans got right back in when the Pacitalians tied it - Marco Fanazori zoomed into the box receiving a drop pass from da Scupeta and slamming it home top-left-corner for the equaliser. And, the Blue Foxes almost took the lead for a secured win in the first minute of stoppage time when Boranogunta fed da Scupeta but it nailed the outer half of the right goalpost and caromed away from the net for a goal kick.

So, the Blue Foxes did earn a point in the match but it could have been a win and a strong lead in Group H, had they kept their heads on and remembered no team is totally beatable. The Pacitalian team will have to regroup with a Silver Wolf squad hot on their heels, and will really need to focus since that's who they happen to be playing next match.

With a win, Pacitalia qualifies. With a draw, Pacitalia *might* qualify. With a loss? That's a good question.

Peter Arne Josephson and Michelangelo Concici gave the Young Zucchinis the perfect start, giving the Zucchinis a 2-0 lead only 10 minutes into the game. However, Pacitalia got back into the game in the second half, as the Zucchinis' defence let them down again as Boranogunta calmly put one past the onrushing Ashkenazy, and they gained a share of the spoils, and more importantly the points, 13 minutes later when Fanazori unleashed an unstoppable half volley after breaking through the Zucchinis' offside trap. The result means that the Zucchinis will desperately need to win their next match if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the next round, and for coach Yekhanurov to keep his job in football management.

East Lithuania's first game in a while results in tie!!

After a few years of unrest after Couch Ray Discolo threatened to quit as couch for the U21WC team, he finally setteled back and announced his return. The first game back in over 3 years results in a tie against newcomer Lisburn Mateys. Yet Discolo is pissed at his team, since it was of luck to them that it was a tie instead of a loss.

In the first few minutes, the ball was evened out, before Matey's attacker Keith Livingston scored against a weak Weaver. Later on in the half, Livingston scored again against Weaver, as the Mateys went up 2-0. However, at 45+ forward John Robles hit a nice cross to attacking middy Mike Santoro, the captain, as he hit it in to bring the morale up as the teams went to the locker rooms at a score of 2-1, Matey's.

In the second half, at 48 minutes, GK Weaver was confused at the Matey's formation, leading attacker Billy Watson leaving a 3-1 lead, and the hopes of a comeback dashed. However, a surprise turnaround after the Matey's had taken out Livingston and brought in a bench player to get him some time. The Sharks forged on, leading to a strike that left forward Bob Seager open for a shot from a kick from the Matey's. After a long attack from the Sharks, with amazing saves from the Matey's GK, the 88th minute lead to a Sharks corner kick, kicked by Joe Hardie, which the GK hit out, but luckaly, the ball landed at the feet of Santoro, who tapped it in to tie. The game ended as a 3-3 tie

Jr Dragons Defeat Cuation

Today the Jr Dragons faced our friends from Cuation in a U21 match. The first such meeting that has not involved the national sides.

And in true ASMV vs Cuation style the match was very close. Great defensive play dominated the pitch for more than 90 minutes as each side failed to gain the upper hand. The match seemed oddly akin to the BoF final that Cuation won in stoppage time. This time it would be the Jr Dragons who managed to come away with the victory.

In the 3rd and final minute of stoppage play everything seemed like the two sides were headed for extra time. That was until Kylie Badia took matters into her own hands. A steal at mid-field was followed by some fancy footwork as Badia danced her way downfield. The last Cuation defender went for a quick fake and fell out of position. That left only the keeper who managed to get a hand on the shot, but it was not enough to stop it from finding the net.

And with that result, ASMV has defeated Cuation for the very first time at any level.

Mateys going home?

the Lisburn Mateys squad will have every right to be disappointed after a very unconvincing display against a far superior Nouvelle Angleterre side.

Not many Mateys came off the pitch happy with the performance they put in, which was slightly disappointing, and the pressure is on manager Kenny Shields is under some real pressure to get a result against group favourites Schiavonia.

As soon as the match started the Mateys where on the back foot with attack after attack from Nouvelle Angleterre. The Mateys could barly put two passes together with the Nouvelle Angleterre midfield working them selves to death with a high tempo closing down strategy which they maintain for all of the first half. The first goal was scored by Jack Horncastle who after recieving a mice through ball chipped keeper Sam Barnes.
The next goal resulted from a corner which was fired in quite low and fast, keeper Sam Barnes went to collect the ball but fumbled it allowing Fred Thomas to poke the ball in.

After half time the Mateys performance picked up a little with Keith Livingston hitting the bar after a long range drive, but Nouvelle Angleterre dug in.
Nouvelle Angleterre's last goal came from a terrible mistake by rooky Andy Welsh, who slipped when Lee Woods tried to play in Jack Horncastle giving Sam Barnes no chance as he blasted into the bottom corner.

Doing things the hard way ...

Well, it looks like U21 team have to beat Haraki. Today we played our mates Hockey Canada in a must win situation but both teams came away with 1 point each while Fmjphoenix absolutely trashed Haraki (which helped us and Hockey Canada).

The U21 tried to get past the brick wall called the Hockey Canada defense which let in 4 goals last time. This time, no luck as nothing the U21 tried getting a little round ball past into the Canuck goal area. The coach tried changing the 4-3-2-1 to a more attacking 3-3-3-1 but that didn't work either as the Canucks simply changed their formation into 6-3-1 and sometimes it looked like 7-2-1. Jeruselem had more scoring shots but on the day, no luck at all.

If we were playing a team we didn't like, things would have got really ugly but the team avoided any dummy spats against the Canucks. Some tackles did warrant yellow cards but we got lucky today.

Haraki ran into the Vikings and got trashed 6-1. Our 0-1 loss in comparison looked really good and so we head into the last game. We must be Haraki by a fair margin and hope the Vikings destroy Hockey Canada. If Haraki win, they can make it - if the Canucks don't draw or win.

Another Tie for East Lithuania!!!

While some sports analysts say that yesterdays tie against the Matey's was a fluke, the Sharks showed that they want a spot in the elemination rounds when they yet again tied the favorite Schiavonia 1-1.

In the first half, the ball was juggled around between the two teams. While the Sharks attacked again and again, Schiavonia was the first to score at 45+ when a Schiavonian attacker shot from out of the 20 yard box. The ball hit the cross bar and flew back. As GK Jibreel Weaver tried to get up, the same attacker headed the ball into the back of the net. Halftime came with the Sharks down 1-0.

Throughout the second half, Schiavonia tried several all-out attacks to put the game away. When the 90th minute came, many thought it was game over. All but Sharks forward Sabastion Torous. As midfielder Santoro came along he put a long pass that was thought to be out of desperation. All of a sudden, the ball lands and the feet of Torous, as he dribbles it, and shoots up in the corner, just out of the keepers reach at 90+. The game ended in yet another tie but this time against a truely amazing Schiavonian team.

At the end of the game, Couch Discolo talked in a interview. "You know, all these ties are great, but we really need a win. I'm not sure exactly what we need to get to move on right now, but hopefully in our next match we will get it."

The Very Eri Show

Bettia 2 (Kurniawan 26 49)
Bazalonia 0

The rising star that is teen sensation Eri Kurniawan was the toast of the Young'Uns after grabbing his first international goals against the Bazacubs today. After their opening draw against neighbours Hypocria, a win against fellow AOians Bazalonia was vital to get their World Cup campaign well and truly on track.

As befits a bunch of budding Takilans, the Young'Uns were quick out of the blocks, pushing forward at every opportunity whilst paying scant regard to defensive duties. The result? A highly entertaining end-to-end affair against opponents with qualification aspirations of their own.

Rhydderch and Devanallt both came close early on, with Bazalonia's Ricky Yunn forcing a fine save from Safwan Sulaiman after twenty-two minutes. However, Bettia weren't to be denided and they ahead soon afterwards. After gathering the ball on the wing, Kurniawan cut inside on a darting run and, upon reaching the corner of the penalty area, bent the ball superbly beyond the reach of Paul Kanga.

Gwarthen Rhydderch almost made it two-nil immediately, after a pumped-up Kurniawan stole the ball from the kick-off and squared it to him in the centre of the area. Unfortunately for the Lorshill United striker, he was unable to keep his shot down and it blazed over the bar.

Thankfully for the neutral spectators, the second half carried on where the first left off, with both side exchanging attacks. However, Kurniawan stretched Bettia's lead just four minutes in after beating off the attentions of two defenders to rise up and head in Cledwyn Foyle's corner.

It was very nearly three-nil on the hour mark, with Cledwyn Foyle rattling the Bazalonian post with a rasping free-kick from a full thirty yards out. The last third of the match saw Bazalonia up the tempo somewhat in a valiant effort to claw their way back into the game, but for some reason the Young'Uns defence managed to stand firm to see the lads in green-and-gold safely home.

This result coupled with Hypocria's 3-1 win over The Footie Dream Team sees the young Hyprorion duo sitting pretty at the top of Group A, with Hypocria holding a one-goal advantage over Bettia going into the last matchday. A draw for both teams will be enough to see them through... but we don't wanna give the fans THAT!

PAGES, CHICANADA BATTLE TO A DRAW

NMS in solid position heading into final matchday

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY - The Pages clawed back from an early 1-0 deficit to salvage a point in U21 action against Chicanada.

NMS is in "moderately good shape," according to coach Loic Perron, as they head to the wire with a final match against Andossa Se Mitrin Vega to determine if the Pages will advance or not. A win or draw will push them through, a loss means that they will require some help from Cuation to push them through. A goal differential of only +1 will spell trouble in the event of a tiebreaker, particularly a tiebreaker after a loss.

The match itself was alright, with Chicanada's (inkblot) scoring in truly dramatic fashion, landing a shot that deflected off the head of NMS keeper Tomas Beaujeu's head and into the net. The first half continued indecisive, and not until 62 minutes in were the Paladins able to mount a drive, capped at the 64th minute with Tyler Green, in off the bench for Richard Wise (ankle sprain) picking up his first international goal to even things out for the Pages.

Kodiaks take 4 Points at U21s
Looks ready to make another run at the U21 Title

Eastentown - The Kodikits of Chicanada are looking towards another trip to the Round of 16 after a rather impressive 1-all matchup with New Montreal States, giving the Kodiaks a 1-1-0 record going into their final group matchup against Cuation, who lost to ASMV to damper their chances of qualifying.

The Kits, who's 4 points put in a tie with the Paladins, a point ahead of ASMV and well ahead of their final opponents, were led by probable WC28 starter Jordan Paige, who took a lucky bounce off NSM's Tomas Beaujeu for the lead goal in the game, added to the two scored in their victory over the Sea Dragons in the opening session. Considering the Kits were written off by the press for some reason, regardless of the team's continued streak of Ro16 runs in the last few years, the team as a whole has adapted to Coach Michel Laniel's quick-fire play style. The format, similar to the Marginal Diamond that helped the Kodiaks make it to WC27 Finals, has played up the role of Paige and fellow striker Gunner Ionian while letting a rather strong defense force the mistakes. Only a mistimed block by Jori Seregan (yep, Raslan's younger bro is here) kept the Kodiaks from perfection and a lock-up of the group title.

Group D - Starblaydia is in, and we think Qutar will be making a Ro16 trip with them.
Group E - The Kodiaks just need a tie over Cuation to advance, and we think ASMV could pull the upset and get the other slot.
Group F - Fmj makes another Ro16, but it's anyone's guess who snatches the other slot. We're going with Jeruselem to beat Hakari, giving them the last slot.
Group G - Schiavonia should be in and Nouvelle Angleterre could crash the Ro16 by giving East Lithuania their third straight tie.

Bunnies are in the hole

The heat is on for the Spruitland Bunnies. If they want to salvage anything from this Under-21 World Cup, they’re gonna have to step up pretty damn soon. With two of the group matches played, the Bunnies are currently in a shameful last place in Group D, with one lonely point from their scoreless draw against Liverpool England.

“It’s disgraceful,” a sullen Spruitland supporter admits. “It’s like an upside-down world, we’re totally sucking and Hypocria is actually doing well! Excuse me for a moment.”

“We just can’t score,” he continues after returning from the bathroom, wiping his mouth. “It’s World Cup 23 all over again. The loss to Starblaydia wasn’t even the worst thing - shit happens, you know. But that nil-nil against Liverpool England… I mean, come on!”

While a comparison with World Cup 23 is a bit of a stretch at this point, the fear for a similar occurance is understandable, and Spruitland officials have thoroughly searched the players facilities for any sign of va’karela-thingies, without result. Bunnies coach Frederic Juneau is at a loss.

“It’s not like a goal is a small thing,” he says. “It’s pretty big, in fact. Almost as big as the backside of a barn. Well, a small barn, at least. Not one of those where they keep cows in, that has to be bigger. The comfort of the cows is very important, you know. Comfortable cows give more milk.”

Despite the last place in the group, not all is lost for the Bunnies. A spot in the next round is still quite possible. With the expected comfortable win for Starblaydia against Liverpool England, all we need is to beat Qutar. For that, we’ll have to score goals though.

“True,” Juneau agrees. “Or, well, at least one goal, provided the opponents don’t score at all. If they do score, then we’ll need to score more than once, of course. It’s a bit complicated really, but what it comes down to is, we need to score more goals than The Islands of Qutar to win the match.”

Milchama pick up second victory and secure advancement

The Milchama Young Warriors pick up their second victory yesterday as they beat Magnus Valerius 2-1. The Warriors have again had trouble scoring goals but it didn't matter as the defense sparkled again only allowing a 90th minute goal. Coach Patrice Thibault said, "We had another great game. Right now we are playing to expectations as we have done very well but we must not get cocky because that is what happened against Iksonic in AOCAF and we lost. We need this victory to beat Iksonic for revenge and to get a perfect group which would make us get an easier opponent and maybe advance to the quarterfinals for a change." Now onto the match report:

The Warriors started excellently as the midfielders took control of the game from the opening whistle as Del Clufor and Barrett M. Lonnen. The midfield's great play soon led to chances as Kelvin Joseph and Marin Keffer almost scored, twice. The best near miss though came from Tilar Flitty who got a header in the 19th minute that he hit just over the bar. The dominance though did lead to goal 12 minutes later when a good run from Del Clufor found Kelvin Joseph whose shot was perfect and it scored easily to give the Young Warriors a 1-0 lead. This did not stop the Warriors from attacking, (See this is what you should do after a goal Milchama national team) as they continued the relentless offensive. The offensive almost led to another goal when Joseph found Daveed Blendelcar open and Blendelcar's shot hit the post. The rebound then fell to Marin Keffer who hit the ball high and wide to keep the game at 1-0. The halftime score was 1-0.

Second Half Report:
The Warriors continued the offensive in the second half and Clufor and Lonnen were again excellent. Clufor actually scored the second Milchamian three minutes in as he beat his defender on the left side and outran him before shooting a perfect shot that went in the net for a 2-0 lead. This lead continued to grow for the Warriors as they continued to dominate. Kelvin Joseph missed a chance in the 76th minute and he missed a better chance 3 minutes later. The Magnus Valerius keeper also did a good job as he kept Tilar Flitty out of the net 3 times in the 79th, 81st and 82nd minutes. These saves finally energized the Valesarians who started to attack. (The reporters match report was lost up until the 90th minute now). Then V found M wide open in the box and M's shot just beat Kyle Blard to score and get the 2-1 goal. Fortunately, the Valesarians could not build on this momentum as the game ended right after the goal.

Final Score:

"Bazacubs Beaten and Bruised" by Nev Gould

Another match, another loss. That is what it seems like with the 2-0 loss against Bettia and then a 3-0 loss against Hypocria. Ricky Yunn came close a number of times in both matches but either the goalies saved them or they just went wide.

Caine Hawdon was sacked from the main Bazalope squad and queries about whether he is fit to coach any squad at all. Though the BFSA president James Gaines has refused to comment on how long Caine will stay as the Bazacubs coach

There was nothing of real interest in the Match against Hyppocria (well apart from the 3 Hypocrian goals, but we'll won't mention those) not even any red, yellow or green cards, though green cards are not related to soccer. And that is all that can be said on this matter.

Silver Wolves out!?
Foxes only win by a hair, but GZ's 4-goal victory leaves Yaforites on the outside

TOTAL 'N' UTTER INSANITY (PSN) -- Sorry.

It was a game the Blue Foxes had to win, and that they did, 1-0, but they're still apologising to their Silver Wolves counterparts after finding the opponent team were eliminated from the possibility of advancement, on goal differential. Massimo da Scupeta scored for the Foxes in the 64th.

Newspapers across Pacitalia and Yafor 2 had been talking excitedly of the possibility of a Yaforite qualification, but noted that any combination of Silver Wolves loss and GZ blowout over Becquerelia or vice versa (by more than 3 goals) would result in the Silver Wolves' elimination. And that's just what happened, as Giant Zucchini steamrollered the Becquerelians en route to a 4-0 win while Pacitalia unknowingly ended their friends' dreams with the solo-goal victory.

"Sure, we feel bad," da Scupeta remarked post-match. "They had so much heart and they played with heaps of intensity. It's sad to see a team that wants it so badly get knocked out on goal differential, but we know they'll be back next year, pushing even harder than before. They'll deserve to advance."

da Scupeta's goal was the difference in a relatively tight matchup that was a mostly defensive contest until his 64th minute marker. Afino Boranogunta's shot caromed back off the crossbar and the speedy 21-year-old realigned to gather the rebound, slicing it back to the top-left corner and into the net.

The Blue Foxes win their group as expected, but unexpected is who is joining them in the knockouts. Giant Zucchini. Pacitalia did not have a very good time playing the GZ squad this Cup - they had to come from behind and salvage a draw, 2-2, on MD2. But provided Pacitalia doesn't play them any time soon in the knockouts, our chances may be much better.

"We are certainly looking forward to see what the matchups are in the Round of Sixteen," Boranogunta said. "It will be interesting to see who we face right off the bat - there are some solid teams that qualified, and the perennial cup favourites came through as well. Plus, there are a few new faces."

Nouvelle Angleterre, Bedistan and Iksonic join the perennial favourites Fmjphoenix and Starblaydia and expected qualified teams like Hypocria, Bettia, Nedalia, and dare we say, us. An interesting scenario has developed in that it won't be a possible third-straight 1-2-3 Vikings/Canucks/Foxes finish this time, as Hockey Canada earned only 2 points in the group stage and placed 3rd in Group F. And solid teams like the Silver Wolves and ASMV find themselves out early.

Junior Vikings trounce Haraki, defeat Hockey Canda to keep undefeated streak running thourgh 3 tournaments

Seventeen matches in a row. It has been an unbelievable run. Haraki offered little resistence in the match. being down 3-0 just within 10 minutes. Jack Russell and Brandon Lamar took turns with the scoring, providing the Junior Vikings more than they would need. Russell would complete the hat trick in the 80th minute of the match, well after Yoh Asakura added two goals of his own in the 56th and 71st minutes.

Then when Fmjphoenix meet up with Hockey Canada for their third match in three cups, the result was the same, Junior Vikings walked away winners. This time it was thanks to Russell coming in with the cluth game winning shot in the 90th minute. Asakura and Lamar each again scored a goal, both coming in the second half. The Canucks built a solid 2-0 lead in the first half then saw it com crashing down with their defense.

When asked about the solid winning streak, Coach Ryan Howard was all about his players.

"With such a young team, normally pressure builds up on them. But these guys have come out here each time and played brilliantly. These guys have been solid and put their hearts out there each time. They have had some big shoes to fill, and they have filled them up better than anyone could possibly ask for. These guys have the will and desire to go all the way for their nation. I feel honored to be coaching such fine up and coming superstars."

The next opponent appears to be Chicanada, as they finished second in Group E. People around the Fmjphoenix Sports Network have speculated a possible Junior Vikings - Blue Foxes semi-finals matchup. Many people in Fmjphoenix are excited about the possible matchup asn each time these two teams have played, they have been exciting matches.

The Nedalia (U21) Lions

U21 Lions Lose Final Game, Stumble into 2nd Round

After defeating Bedistan on Matchday One, it was supposed to be smooth sailing from there. Instead, a 1-1 tie against CR Oscilloscopes and a Matchday Three 2-1 loss to The Resurgent Dream almost doomed the U21 Lions and sent them crashing out. They do qualify to the 2nd Round, but it could not be in a more unconvincing way.

"We qualify on a difference of one goal," stated manager Vernon Williams. "That is not a good sign, and we want to forget about the group stages all together. The final two games were definitely games we should have won, but we played with no heart and no passion, especially against the Resurgent Dream. We're going to have to do much better than this come the knock out stages."

One of the few bright spots on the team continues to be 15 year old left winger Hassan Bakhwan, scorer of 4 goals out of Nedalia's 5 thus far in the campaign. With the increasing incompetence of the strikers, and the inconsistency of the midfield's ability to provide, Bakhwan, the youngest player on the squad and one of the youngest in the tournament, has shouldered the burden of leading the team on the pitch. While officially it is GK Hassan Smith who is the captain, it is Bakhwan who has lead by example. The feeling is that if the U21 Lions are to achieve anything in the knockout stages, its going to be because of the sensational winger.

In other news, both Hypocria and Bettia qualified out of Group A to make it to the knockout stages, with both teams impressing in their group stage performances. Jeruselem, however, looked like the senior squad Nedalia Lions team, finishing last in Group F with only 1 point. Much has been made about the decline of their U21 program, but it seems it has hit new lows, something that has upset its Nedalian fans, who are hoping it can make a quick recovery and take its rightful place back. Pacitalia did the opposite, however, finishing an impressive 1st place in Group H, and with the way they are currently playing, experts in Nedalia have been claiming they could even make a run for the title. Definitely the sleeper team of the tournament.

A TIE!?

Unfortunately, yes that's what happened to us against the Iksonic Sonics yesterday. The Milchama AB lost to them in AOCAF and led to them not advancing and now the U21 team got foiled by them and finished in second place with 7 points. Coach Patrice Thibault said, "They have our number, I don't know what else to say. We have played them twice both times as clear favorites and both times we have come away with dissapointing results." Now as a second seed the Warriors go to the second round again.

The second round has not been kind to us at all as we have lost in all or attempts there. The first time we were unranked just happy to be here side against Chicanada and our 4-2 loss was not so bad. Then in U21 Cup 19 as a 15 seed we got to the second only to play eventual champions Fmjphoenix and not suprisingly we lost. We managed to halve the deficit this time only losing 2-1 to the Vikings. Our last time we actually swept through the group in brilliant form getting 9 points and only 1 goal against. Then we got to go against Spruitland and eventhough it went into extra time the result was never in doubt as the Warriors without subs tired out and the Spruitlanders took over winning 3-1.

This record of failure comes with us to the second round this time although hopefully a new generation can overcome the challenge and win. It's our job to skeptical so I don't think so but it could happen and if it does that would be a great accomplishment and lead us to many victories I am sure.

Still there, but…

With one point from their first two matches and a grand total of zero goals scored, the Bunnies had it all to do in their final group match. Not known to be particularly consistent under pressure, optimism wasn’t all that high in the Spruitland camp. But, for once, the Bunnies managed to bring their game up a notch when it mattered most.

As if the two match goal drought had never happened, Benji Kloots casually bagged two goals in the first half. Full back Jakke Kopper nodded the ball into the net on a corner kick late in the match, bringing the Bunnies’ goal difference in this tournament out of the red. They didn’t have their fate entirely in their own hands though, but as the reports from the other group match trickled in, it was quickly apparent that no upset was about to happen there.

“We were never really worried about that,” team captain and man of the match Benji Kloots said. “The Liverpoolenglanders have a fairly decent senior team, but they get their growth spurts pretty late – we were confident they’d be a size too small for the Purple Bastids.”

“There was some minor concern that the Starblaydis might throw the match, just to pull one over on us and avoid us in one of the later rounds. But honestly, if you get a chance to kick a team from Liverpool England when they’re down, you’re not about to pass up that opportunity.”

Having found the way to the net again, the Spruitland team was pretty damn confident for their Second Round match. Especially since the opponents would be the unknown newcoming nobodies from Iksonic. Despite topping Group B, beating such football greats as… well, none really, the Iksonicians were very much considered to be the lambs in the proverbial slaughter.

The lambs, however, did not go quietly into that smelly backroom to meet the burly bald dude with the bloody apron. Granted, they didn’t exactly pack much of a kick in their hind legs, but they did skid into a narrow corner where the butcher couldn’t reach them, bleating and baa-ing all the way.

To make a long and somewhat boring story short: the Bunnies, again, didn’t manage to score a goal. 0-0, after extra frustration time, and penalties were needed. Even there, scoring didn’t quite come easily, but goalkeeper Vic Varckenboer saved the day (and three penalties) to put the Bunnies into the next round with plenty to think about.

NEWSFLASH:

The Young Zucchinis overturned their torrid start to the Under 21 World Cup with two magnificant results against Becquerelia and Fmjphoenix to advance to the quarterfinals. The Zucchinis qualified from Group H after thumping Becquerelia 4-0, Hals giving the Zucchinis the lead only 2 minutes into the game, Boito doubling the lead in the final minute of half time. Boito struck again in the second half and Jaaskelainen made sure of the Zucchinis' passage into the knockout stages. Once there though, they faced the mighty Fmjphoenix, and after a tentative first half, it was the Junior Vikings that struck first, Jack Russell with a screamer in the 50th minute, leaving the Zucchinis a mountain to climb. However, they clawed one back through Hans Jaaskelainen strike and Charles-Marie Aristide's tap in from a rebound from a well worked set piece gave the Zucchinis a shock lead with less than 10 minutes to go. Despite fierce pressure from the Junior Vikings the Young Zucchinis held on to progress on to the quarterfinals of the Under-21 World Cup. Coach Yekhanurov, "I think we are finally showing some form here, the kids are starting to gel and they are really working as a team now, and the hard work we have been putting in on the training pitch is starting to show in our results."

Back To Final 8
Even Tripping On Cuation, Kodikits make it to the Ro8 again.

Eastentown - Jorden Paige recovered from a weird final Group match to held get the Kodikits back to the Final 8 agains with a 4-3 overtime victory against Nouvelle Angleterre today.

The match was a tussel and involved more Kodikits than expected, thanks to Seregan's twisted ankle in the final minutes of the game. Seregan twisted it on a attempted block of a shot by the Nouvelle side, which incidentally scored thei tied goal that sent the teams into extra time. Paige chose this time to score his fourth goal of the tourney, squeezing a shot past three defenders and the keeper in the 7th minute of the first period of ET to give the Kodikits their first victory in the knockout stage since their exploits in the 18th edition of the U21s.

The Kodikits could really be facing anyone as they head towards the Quaterfinals, be it a rematch of sorts in the NMS/Schiavonia match. It could be Giant Zuchinni, who knocked off perennial contenders Fmjphoenix. Or it could be some unknown setup in the Hakari/Pacitalia set. We should have an idea soon on the next opponent for the club as they try to finally capture their first even U21 show.

PAGES ROLL OVER DRAGONS, TIP SLOTHS TO ADVANCE TO ROUND OF 8

NMS in quarterfinals for first time ever

TOTAL N UTTER INSANITY - The Pages faced a significant challenge going into the third and final match of qualification - secure at least one point against a Jr. Sea Dragons side determined to advance into the round of 16.

Not only were the Pages up to challenge, they surpassed it, running over the Dragons 2-0 and earning themselves a matchup against a potent Schiavone side in the round of 16.

The match began slowly, with both sides probing each others defenses. The Sloths struck first, going up 1-0 after a slipup in the backfield gave up an open-net goal. The Pages battled back, with Zachary Smith knocking one in to send the teams to the lockers at one-all.

Both sides came out intending to pull ahead by any means, and the Pages struck first, with Hunyadi burying one in the back of the net. 2-1 Pages, but the Sloths weren't done yet. A second drive cumulated in a spectacular save by the Schiavone keeper which produced a prompt counter-attack that rocked the States back on their heels, and the ball into the back of the net. 2-all, with time running down.

Stoppage time, a full six minutes, was awarded, and the Pages took advantage of this by slamming the ball into the back of the net to put the final nail in the Schiavonia coffin and send the States through to face...somebody. Danged if we know.

IT'S OVER!!!!

That's right folks the second round curse is over as the Milchama Warriors defeated the Starblaydia Blades in the 2nd round in extra time. In a game that many weren't sure how the Warriors would respond against a well known and better opponent they proved they could play quickly and suprised many with the result. Coach Patrice Thibault said, "This was a key game. This shows how we have laid the framework for a great team in the world cup. The breaking through to the quarterfinals is one of our greatest accomplishments so far as a national football orginization. I am happy to be a part of it and cannot wait to continue the success soon."
Now onto the match report:

The pressure on the Warriors was enourmous as all of the teams before this one had failed at this point and the entire nation seemed to be hoping for the team to finally succeed. They seemed oblivious to the pressure early though as Barrett M. Lonnen and Walto Manin played very well to get Kelvin Joseph a scoring oppurtunity, unfortunately the shot from Joseph was not very good and it landed right in the arms of the Starblaydian keeper, David Bedford. The early pressure soon faded though as the teams battled for possesion and chances. Soon it was the Blaydes taking the oppurtunities as Jade Matranga found Roberto Vega and Vega's shot was good but Kyle Blard was there and he made the save. Milchama then got a decent chance in the 33rd minute but Lonnen could not convert the shot and two minutes later the same thing happened to Paul Noble. The scorers did see action though as Del Clufor made a great move through the midfield and left Noble and Matranga in the dust before finding Marin Keffer, Keffer then faked a cross before unleashing a perfect shot that beat Bedford and went in to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The goal seemed to be against the run as Starblaydia had a few chances before that but never really threatened the goal. Then it was almost 2-0 Warriors when a pass from Walto Manin sprung Daveed Blendelcar who missed his shot high. After that the game went to halftime peacefully and the score was 1-0 Milchama.

Second Half Report:

The Blaydis seemed to get a fiery halftime speech from their coach because they came out playing hard and well. Matranga dominated the midfield and the captain George Blancas kept the Milchamians with his crunching tackles. Their determined soon born fruit in the 52nd minute when Matranga found Dasha Tolkacheva who dashed past the defense and around to Blard with a beautiful finish that our strikers could learn something from. The Tolkacheva was just the beginning for the Starblaydians who continued their relentless assualt and put siege upon the Milchama net. Tolkacheva missed a chance for a second in the 65th minute and Blard kept the Warriors in the game two minute later. The Blard save led to a corner kick from Jade Matranga. His kick was swung in to the far side of the box and was cleared from the box by Martin Hansen but it was put back to the box by Blancas and he found left back Markko Rakkinen who was up for the corner kick and Rakkinen put the ball in to give Starblaydia the lead 2-1. This goal was not the end for the Starblaydians who continued the offensive mercilessly and almost scored a third if it were not for the great play of Chase Mergle. Mergle found one hole an exploited it as he drove down the field and found Barrett M. Lonnen. Lonnen was shut down and passed back to Mergle who forced a long pass to Tilar Flitty. Flitty then showed that he had a shot as it curled around and went in to give the Warriors the 2-2 tie in the 85th minute. The goal from Flitty soon turned the momentum of the game in favor of the Warriors and soon they were on the attack. This momentum swing continued into the extra as the Blaydes looked mentally drained and could not keep up with the more energetic Warriors. The substitute Corey Mishert was particularly as he played a great role in distributing the ball and his energy seemed to liven up the offense. This came in handy in the 103rd minute when Mishert found Kelvin Joseph with a lob pass that Joseph bicycle kicked into the net to give the Warriors the goal. The half then passed and the Warriors had the 3-2 win and a their first quarterfinal appearance in the U21 Cup.

Final Score:
Milchama 3 (Keffer 41, Flitty 85, Joseph 103)
Starblaydia 2 (Tolkacheva 52, Rakkinen 73)

William Branstone was having a rough day. First, he had been taking ehat in the press from dropping a match to the Islands of Qutar, a place most Nouveau Montrealais couldn't find on a map at gunpoint, in the Dragonnii Inviyattii, relegating the Paladins to playing for 7th place. Then he had locked himself out of his car on his way back to the hotel.

He plopped down on the bed and flipped on the T.V., trying to catch the tail end of the NMS/Giant Zucchini game. Perhaps watching a bunch of kids get it beat out of them would make him feel better. Catharsis, and all that.

"...and as time runs out, the Pages have kept their miracle going, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to tip the Giant Zucchini side and secure a berth to the semifinals! What a feat for an unheralded side from a nation that has never done well in the U21s. We're here with coach Loic Perron on the sidelines. Coach, how do you feel about your run so far?"

"Well, it's certainly been something special. These guys have really bonded as a unit, and I'll certainly miss them when its over."

"Some key substitutions there throughout the second half gave our side the wind it needed to overcome the Zucchini. How do you feel your coaching has worked out so far this tourney?"

"It's almost as if you guys are building me up before a fall or something. Well..."

Branstone tuned out the rest. Those media shits are trying to show me the door. Just like last time. The only difference is that 67 Sports hadn't nearly the influence of that crazy geezer Jaffacake.

This time, Branstone would be ready to face the press and beat them at their own damn game. And he'd shut them all up by kicking ass and taking names in WC28, and doing to the world what the UC21s were doing right now.

It's a wonderful sunny day in downtown Pifton, a cosy little suberb nestled somewhere in the nation's capital Gabalfa. Not a creature is stirring on the streets here, nor indeed anywhere in the Blessed Realm, save for a comedy tumbleweed doing it's thing down the high street. Why? Because it's international matchday, with both the Aroras and the Young'Uns in quarter-final action.

As per usual the Pie and Pixie, that oh-so-popular sports cafe, is packed to the rafters with eager footy fans. The management have spared no expense, with not one but two big screens rented out from the local big screen rental shop, one showing the crunch AOCAF clash with Lamoni, the other showing the under-21s pitted against their Milchaman counterparts.

There's just five minutes to go in both matches, and - oh, what a surprise - here's George, the man with lousy timekeeping who has turned turning up late for football matches into an artform. I wonder what his excuse is this time? Let us listen in as he struggles through the crowded cafe to join his pals...

"Blimey lads, look who it isn't!"

"I don't believe it George! Two top matches on, and you're still late! What happened?"

"You're never gonna believe this... a couple of hours ago, I was just getting ready to get out here nice and early when the phone rings... being the mug that I am I pick it up."

"Yeah... and?"

"Some annoying bint's on the other end... 'Good afternoon sir, I'm calling from some software company or other'... I don't remember which... We're running a special offer on such-and-such product'... I don't remember which one neither... so I says 'Look love, I don't have a computer'. She goes, 'That's okay sir, think of this as an investment for when you do get a computer'. I says 'Look, I really don't need one right now, and I'm kinda in a hurry', so she says 'Sir, have you ever considered how you could organise your life more efficiently with a computer?', so I says 'Look love, I spend most of my time on the allotment, all my organising is done in a greenhouse', so she says..."

George is interrupted by a loud collective 'oh!' from the AOCAF side of the cafe - Laurie LeClerc has just hit the post direct from a corner.

"So anyway, she says... ah sod it, you get my gist."

"What, she said that? How unprofessional!"

"No, basically that stupid tart kept me on the phone for an hour and a half trying to flog my computers, DVD players, TVs, the works, so I ended up slamming the phone down... a guy's patience can only be tested so far. But as soon as I step outside the door, the phone rings again... 'Good afternoon sir...'. I'm right pissed off at this stage so I slam the phone down and walk out... but the phone rings again... 'Good afternoon sir...'. This carries on for another half an hour before I finally decide to ignore it and come here... so, how are we doing?"

"Right, well on AOCAF side we're 1-1 with about five minutes left, Lamoni scored first, that Linwood bloke from a penalty in the first half, but then we equalised straight away. A quality goal it was too, the HYH did their thing as only they know how, passing it around in the area before Hutton sticks it away. It's bene pretty tight since then, but we're having some good pressure right now."

"And what about the under-21s?"

"I dunno... hand on a minute... Geoff! Oi! Geoff! What's the score there mate?"

"It's 1-1 here mate. Devanallt scored in the second minute, then Keffer equalised just before half-time. I tell you though mate, we're lucky to be in this one... Milchama have been all over us this half."

Now it's Geoff's turn to be interrupted as the noise from the AOCAF side of the cafe get noticably louder.

"Go on Judson! Skin him, skin him! Yeah, that's it!" Ali shouts excitedly as Judson York jinks his way past Darren Heasley. "Hunter's open, give it to him, give it to him!"

Amazingly, York does as he's told and find Hunter lurking near the penalty spot. Turning on a sixpence, he smacks the ball past Fleeman... GOAL! The cafe erupts as Hunter's 87th minute strike nesltes satisfyingly in the back of the net, and young Latif wheels away to salute the multitude of Bettians in the stadium who are all busy going absolutely mental in the stands. And so it stands Bettia 2-1 Lamoni with just a couple of minutes left to play, but just as the P&P's customers begin to settle down again, more excited cries erupt, this time from the half watching the under-21 match.

"Handball!" Geoff and the others shout at the screen. Obligingly, the referee gives the penalty... Egryn Vaughan is the young man chosen to take responsibility... this spot kick could propel Bettia into the semi-final. The atmosphere is tense... the noise from the Pie and Pixie is reduced to a quiet buzz of anticipation, everyone praying to dear god that this goes in. A hush falls upon them as Vaughan begins his run-up... disaster, the keepers saves it! But wait, he hasn't kept hold of the ball, and now a crowd of players are charging forward in an attempt to claim the scraps. Gwrlais Devanallt get there first, he toe-pokes it... GOOOOOALLL! The ball trickles over the line, sending the Bettian faithful into raptures. The fans who have made the journey to Total n'Utter Insanity are overjoyed, cheering and screaming. Could this be the Young'Uns year?

But no sooner as that particular bit of excitement has ended, attention is again focused on Mellion Lane stadium, as Chris Hutton is fouled just outside the area. As the Lamoni defence busy themselves into organising a defensive wall, the referee gives the nod for Bard Warlow to take full advantage of the situation, quickly bending the ball around the players and into the top corner to put the game beyond doubt.

As two full-time whistles blow almost similtaneously, the Pie & Pixie's patrons celebrate - Bettia have qualified for not one but two semi-finals. As the regulars dance around, being careful not to spill their cups of tea, George's mobile phone rings... 'Good afternoon sir, I'm calling from...'

Hyppos Into The Quarters

They say out of adversity comes triumph and that certainly seems to be the case with the Autocracy's Under-21 side. Written off by every football writer back home, the Hyppos actually managed a highly creditable 2 - 2 draw with neighbours Bettia in the opening Group A match. But that joy was short-lived as the very next day coach George Burns was rushed to a nearby hospital complaining of chest pains.

To cut a long story short the former Kester Town manager's tournament, and perhaps his career, has ended prematurely. Which is the last thing the HFA needed considering the recent problems that have had in finding coaches to take control of Hypocria's national sides for various international commitments scattered across the globe. National coach Alex Santoro was offered the post temporarily but with World Cup qualifiers just around the corner he understandably declined. As did former Under-21 coach Boubacar Dragov, National team assistant coach Gregory Vidal and FC Hypocrium manager Rafael Cicero.

They finally settled on a surprise candidate. Marcus Baxter, a legend of Hypocrian football with 132 senior caps to his name and a former captain of the Under-21s, has filled the void left by Burns' absence despite a lack of any previous coaching experience. The 35 year old, who a couple of weeks ago scored in the third place playoff of the Cup of Harmony, was unveiled at the briefest of press conferences in Hypocrium.

And the new man has certainly hit the ground running, masterminding wins over The Footie Dream Team (3 - 1) and Bazalonia (3 - 0) to lead the Hyppos nto the second round as Group A winners, above Bettia, and a mouth watering second round encounter with the Lions of Nedalia.

When teams from the Verdana continent met you can almost always guarantee plenty of excitement and plenty of goals. And games against Nedalia have an added spice due to the rivalry the two nations have built up over the years at this level, as well as certain political differences. The Hyppos campaign at Under-21 World Cup 16 came to an end in the second round after a 5 - 2 mauling by the Lions. Two years later the Autocracy gained revenge with a 1 - 0 in the quarter final.

The stage was set once again for another dramatic encounter. And the players did not disappoint as they played out a thrilling 3 - 3 stalemate. Now the prospect of extra time against Nedalia would have sent shivers down the spines of fans who remember that meeting at WC16. That finished 2 - 2 after 90 minutes only for the Lions to run in an astonishing 3 goals in extra time.

History was not destined to repeat itself. Extra time came and went and a penalty shootout loomed into view. Keeper Andy Meyde became a national hero as he made two good saves to send the Autocracy through 4 - 3 on penalties and into the quarter finals for the fourth time.

Where they faced yet another Verdana derby, this time against arch nemesis Spruitland (Boo! Hiss! Etc . . . ). Needless to say the fluky Shites or Spruits or whatever managed another undeserved victory. One day we'll get them.

One day.

Bunnies all the way again?

The Spruitland Bunnies have not been particularly impressive in the opening stages of this tournament. In fact, one could say they’ve been somewhat fortunate to get into the Quarter Finals, considering they failed to score a goal in three of their four matches. If they wanted to get past the Quarters though, they’d have to score goals. The more the better.

Motivation, however, would not be a problem, since the Quarter Final opponent was Hypocria. While we get along fairly well with our neighbours to the north-east-ish on a day to day basis, put a bunch of Hypocrians and Spruitlanders on a football field, and there’s likely to flow some blood. And better make sure the dividers between the different sections of the stadium are pretty firm as well.

The rivalry started at the pre-World Cup 23 Baptism of Fire tournament, where Spruitland needed two matches and a tight penalty kick series to get past the Hyppos and go on to win the tournament. Since then, Spruitland has won every major confrontation with the Hyppos – at least, that’s how we remember it. The luck of the draw saw the Hypocrians spared of more humiliating defeats though, as it has been a while since the two teams were drawn against each other.

But nothing could save the Hyppos this time, not even a reasonably solid performance in a game between two evenly matched teams, nor the double red card for Black and Obregon, for a shoving contest that didn’t quite live up to Jools’ and West’s BoF example, but not for a lack of trying. Despite the balance on the field, however, the Bunnies were more lethal in front of goal, and two second half headers by right winger Pierre Oppergodt were enough to put Spruitland in the Semi Finals. The Hypocrians were left with yet another “maybe next time.” Yeah, right.

And the Bunnies had another derby on their hands for their Semi Final match, this time against northern neighbours Bettia. The rivalry with Bettia hasn’t been nearly as big as the one with Hypocria, for some reason – probably because we haven’t played them all that often, and if we do, it’s in matches we don’t care all that much about (a Cup of Harmony, long ago, comes to mind).

This match, however, the Spruitland crowd certainly cared about. So did the players, and they clearly showed that on the field, playing with a lot of passion. The result was an exciting match to watch, with a final scoreline that no Spruitland supporter expected after the team’s earlier scoring difficulties. With four goals, the Bunnies almost doubled their tournament total, and they are finally starting to look like a team that deserves their place in the Final.

Who the opponent in the Final will be isn’t quite clear yet, since the bottom half of the bracket is being played on the other side of the country, and news reports from that area have been sporadic. From what we can tell, it’ll be either New Montreal States, Haraki, or Chicanada.

“Any of those three will do,” was Bunnies coach Frederic Juneau’s official comment. “I don’t care which, as long as we score more goals than them in the Final. That’s our main concern at this point.”

Every Major Confrontation?

After reading the usual tripe put forward by those loudmouths across the channel we feel we must put the record straight. The Spruit’s talk of winning every major confrontation and humiliating defeats for the Autocracy is almost as ludicrous as their football kits. Obviously nothing can be quite that ludicrous.

Previously the record had been very close and it was this latest match that finally tipped the balance in favour of the Wabbits/Bunnies. The nations share a win apiece at the AOCAF and had the same record in the Under-21 World Cup prior to this tournament. In fact, if you take into account the Hyppos’ 3 - 0 win at the Ts’kinvali Invitational in South Osettia the record is still level. But after moaning about the local referees being out to get them the Spruits have clearly refused wiped that game from both their records and their memories.

(OOC: A big thank you to Bettia for his recent help. And Spruit, you know I love you really ;) )

From the Haraki News Network, Print Edition

Hard to believe, but the Harakian Under 21 Football team, tentatively titled the Junior Hawks, has managed to make it all the way to the finals. After qualifying, in which we scraped by with notable draws against such teams as Hockey Canada, we managed two more ties against nations in the second round and defeated both Pacitalia and Chicanada on penalty kicks. Congratulations to Haraki's five strikers!

Coach James Moresby has announced that he is very proud of his team. In a tournament where usually the team one year is radically different from the team the next, it seems Haraki managed to get by with a strong first team on their first-ever Under 21 World Cup. James Horace, the 19-year old goalkeeper from the football-heavy city of Arkia, has managed to pull off some great saves against very good attacking players to keep the scores low enough for Haraki to win, and the recent victory over New Montreal States in the semi-finals just showed that.

The game against Pacitalia ended up 1-1 at end time, and overtime play didn't bring any goals to either side. A penalty kick shootout was called, and Haraki's five penalty takers - Thier, Torris, Beltser, Hurt and Borter - took the field, facing off against the five from Pacitalia. Although Harakian keeper James Horace managed to stop all but two shots, the Pacitalian keeper was not so lucky as all but Beltser managed to make their kicks.

The next team Haraki faced was Chicanada, most recently mentioned in Haraki for their hosting of the first-ever Women's World Cup of Football. By the end time, when a penalty kick was called, the score was tied 2-2 thanks to goals by Harakian right-side attackers Thier and Hurt - Hurt's on a penalty kick. Both goals came in the second half, as compared to both Chicanadian goals, which were seen in the first half, giving them a 2-0 goal at halftime. However, the Junior Hawks managed to come from behind and tie up the match. A Chicanadian player grabbed Sean Hurt's shirt as he was setting up an attackign run, and although no card was given, Hurt was awarded a penalty kick, which he made in the eightieth minute to tie up the game.

By overtime, both teams were tired and unwilling to let a sudden death goal get by. By the penalty shootout, both keepers had blocked more than five shots on goal, and a penalty shootout was announced. Haraki's five penalty takers all managed to get their shots into the net while Chicanada missed their first shot, ultimately dooming them.

And the last game was won by Vanessa Torris on the fiftieth minute to get Haraki in the finals, for the first time in history and the first time ever entered in the U21 World Cup.

Starblaydia Off To A Flyer
Qutar sunk by four goals to nil

With the first match of the Twenty-First Under-Twenty-One World Cup (U21WC21) been and gone, Starblaydia's youth team have scored themselves an excellent win, just what the doctor ordered.

Four Goals against Qutar is pretty much what had been expected of Starblaydia, but often such expectations prove too much. Not so in this group, argued as the Group of Death by Pacitalian commentators, as Starblaydia dominated from front to back, start to finish.

Roberto Vega bagged the opener by lobbing the Qutar 'keeper from the edged of the area, the ball perfectly flighted into the top-corner. A Paul Noble curving free-kick completely beat both wall and 'keeper after half an hour, giving Starblaydia a firm 2-0 lead at half time.

Georges Blanc ran the show from midfield and his power, pace and vision came into play in the second half as he first created and then scored Starblaydia's two second-half goals. The first came as Starblaydia were encamped around the Qutar penalty area. Blanc, showing his composure on the ball, took his time with the ball at his feet and played the pefect through-ball into the area with the outside of his right boot. Dasha Tolkacheva was on it in the blink of an eye and the ball had been prodded into the back of the net almost before the defence know what was happening.

It was Blanc who rounded off the rout as be broke through the defence on his own, showing strength and control as he made it into the area, requiring only a quick tap to send the ball into the net.

One down, two to go.

Dasha puts Three past Bunnies

In only her fourth Under-21 appearance, "Dash" has struck with a hat-trick. She ran the Spruitland Bunnies completely ragged throughout the sixty-five minutes she was on the pitch, Khim Azanulbizarn giving her a rest on the bench for her efforts.

Tolkacheva, expected to make the World Cup 26 squad in two year's time (OOC: yeah, my screwed-up timeline rears it's warped head again), ran young Siggi Noordeman at left-back completely ragged for the entire game as he completely failed to deal with her pace and movement. Hanging in an offside position for large portions of the game, Dasha timed her runs perfectly time and again to out-wit the Bunnies' defence and force Rikky Borstel into coming across and dealing with her himself. This, in turn, left Roberto Vega free to rampage in the middle. It was from just this situation that Starblaydia profited for the first goal, Vega providing the lay-off for Tolkacheva to blast home past Varckenboer after twenty minutes.

Dasha proved she was fastest off the blocks in the second half as she scored twice more within six minutes of the restart. A scintillating run through the heart of the Spruitland midfield and defence saw her hurdle the 'keeper and tap home into an empty net. Finally a Paul Noble corner rounded off her first hat-trick, firing home at the far post.

At just eighteen, Tolkacheva is certainly one to watch for the future.

Are You Watching Liverpool?
Starblaydia yet to concede a goal

A Paul Noble double and a Javi Chavez screamer sealed Starblaydia's qualification to the Second Round in style. As the Spruitland media predicted, Starblaydia took the opportunity to kick a Liverpool England side while they were down, preventing them from progressing to the next stage while the Bunnies advanced behind Starblaydia.

Paul Noble's ability to stike a ball with pin-point accuracy has been proved time and again at this level, though two more examples won't hurt him. After his free-kick against Qutar two games ago, the Liverpool England 'keeper should have been knowing something of what to expect, in fact he was waiting for exactly the same thing. Expecting a centrally-placed Noble free kick to start out going wide to his left before sneaking inside the post, the Englander placed himself accordingly. Noble, however, decided to blast it down the middle and let the curve put it to the 'keeper's right. Wrong-footed on the goal-line, Starblaydia were 1-0 up after half an hour.

Again, just before the hour, Noble's right boot had the ball finding the back of the net as he fired in low across the body of the goalie after a knock-down from Dasha Tolkacheva. Five minutes from time Javi Chavez sealed the win and Starblaydia's topping of the Group with a goal right out of the top-drawer, somewhere he tends not to find his goals from usually.

It was a half-volley from over thirty five yards that Chavez sent crashing against the underside of the bar, powering it into the net by sheer brute force. It was a heck of a way to round off the Group Stage, and puts Starblaydia firmly in the driving seat for the knockout stages.

Final Score from Matchday Three:
Starblaydia U21s 3 - 0 Liverpool England U21s

Dumped!
Starblaydia out in extra time

The Milchama Warriors certainly aren't a team to look at statistics. In the three group games previous to this, Starblaydia had scored ten goals and conceeded none. Starblaydia's region-mates turned that on it's head by breeching the much-vaunted Starblaydi defence through Marin Keffer just before half-time.

Starblaydia came out hard and fast in the second half as Dasha Tolkacheva bagged her fourth for the tournament by bursting through the defence, rounding the 'keeper and tapping home for the equaliser. Markko Rakkinen reacted first to a goalmouth scramble from a Tolkacheva corner to put Starblaydia 2-1 with fifteen minutes to go.

They thought they'd won it, quite simply, and when Tilar Flitty's arcing drive found its path past David Bedford with five minutes to go, Starblaydia were deflated. Into extra time it went, and Kelvin Joseph's incredible bicycle kick will surely go down in Milchama's sporting history as their most-spectacular U21 goal ever, never mind the significance of it to send Milchama into the Quarter-Finals, the traditional hunting ground of Starblaydia's future starlets.

Final Score from Second Round:

A group of (mostly younger) Harakians had all travelled to Total n Utter Insanity to watch their team in the Under 21 World Cup Finals. Not many of them were expecting to actually win the game, most considering it a sheer fluke that Haraki had made it this far - which, to be fair, it was. Many of the players were simply there because they thought some of the Harakian players were attractive, and had paid money to see them in person.

The game looked to be a high-scoring one right from the beginnin, with three goals in the first twenty minutes alone: One from Nick Borter at nine minutes, followed by two in rapid succession from Spruitland's offence at fourteen and nineteen minutes in. Haraki appeared somewhat outmatched in the first half, with posession down significantly from that of the opposition. Ryan Thier managed to get off a ghood shot up into the top of the net to tie the game up at thirty-five minutes, only to have the Spruitland team take the lead again at forty-one minutes with a nice shot right past keeper James Horace, who was proving he was not the best keeper Haraki had ever seen. He was adequate, but relied more on his defensive players to stop shots than he himself. With a 3-2 score for Spruitland, the Junior Hawks didn't seem in their best game.

Coach James Moresby had words of wisdom and inspiration for them, congratulating them on getting that far, and making a few changes: Horace was out in favour of reserve goalkeeper Brian Vortis, and Jack Beltser, one of Haraki's forwards, was off due to fatigue and was replaced by Jeremy Binns, the youngest player on the team. The Junior Hawks took the field again for the second half with a fire in their bellies. They knew no one expected them to win, but thought they might as well give the fans at home a pleasant surprise.

They managed to control the ball well, with multiple quality shots on net, all of which were stopped, one by a sliding defender. However, finally Vanessa Torris made a good shot at seventy minutes to tie the game up. The Junior Hawks managed to hold off, unsuccesful in scoring any more before the end of regulation time, but also Vortis showed he should have been the primary goalkeeper for the tournament as he stopped every shot that came at him.

The Hawks had once again forced a tie against a great football team, and once again it seemed they were less exhausted than the others. Perhaps it was Moresby's training regimen, but the Junior Hawks had more energy left in them and so controlled the play from the moment play resumed in overtime. Binns managed to bring the ball all the way from half past several exhausted defenders and shoot, sinking a shot at 102 minutes to give Haraki the win and make Moresby look smart for putting him in. As his entire team hauled off to embrace him and he leapt in the air screaming, it sunk in to the rest of the team, and to all the fans of the team, in the stadium and back in their living rooms: Haraki, on their first ever entry into the U21 World Cup, had won it.

Blue Foxes dumped by Haraki
Eventual champions down Pacitalian U21s in extra time

TOTAL 'N' UTTER INSANITY (PSN) -- It was not to be this time either. Pacitalia's string of constant inability to win sporting tournaments continued as they were knocked out by eventual champions Haraki, in extra time, in the second round. The teams were tied 1-1 heading into extra time and ridiculously stupid play by the Foxes allowed the Harakians to carry through to the penalties, a place where Pacitalia has little experience but their opponents were strong. And that disparity showed, as Haraki took the victory with a 4 successful penalties to the Blue Foxes' 2.

"It hurts," Massimo da Scupeta said post-match. "It really does. We were one of the favourites to win, and we played like [expletive]. I'm disgusted with us. I can't believe we blew it." da Scupeta was not taking solace in the fact that joint 1st-seeds Starblaydia and Fmjphoenix, along with two other favourites Liverpool England and Nedalia, also bowed out to underdogs in the second round. The defeat of five "power" teams created a void that was easily filled by three sleeper teams and consistent Bettia, and the victorious Harakians advanced all the way to the final where they made it look easy in extra time, downing the Spruits.

So, once again, Pacitalia is left with a decision. Where do they go from here? Personnel changes? Formation changes? It's all up in the air as the Blue Foxes try to recover from a very disappointing performance in U21WC21 and prepare for U21 World Cup 22. The sole bright spot for the Foxes this cup was the play of Afino Boranogunta, but with our first-ever top ranking most likely lost, one has to wonder whether the Blue Foxes will ever break the curse.

Congratulations to the Haraki U21s, nonetheless. If the Foxes are looking for pointers on where to improve, maybe they should start by looking at the play of the champs.
