World Cup Introduction:

For more information on the World Cup, its History, how it works, who runs it, and the competitions related to it, check out the World Cup Wiki Site (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Cup).

The NSWC is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. This World Cup is about to start its 28th competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous Cups, and the starting rank is 210ish (the Current 'best team in the world' is Bedistan, with a rank of 1) See: KPB Rankings (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/KPB_ranking_system)

Scores are generated using either a Java program or through various or MS Excel sheet 'scorinators' which use random numbers, weighted by ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.

It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire and Colony Cup). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved or this happening. i.e. Two debutant, Rank 150, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.

RPs can be Team Roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, as long as you've kept to the score as posted or TGd to you by the host/scorer.

If this is your first Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.

As much or as little as you like. I - and many others - do 4 years (like Real Life), Vilita used to do 2 years, Sarzonia does 1 year. So pick one, or a different one :)

The Praying2God Warriors will return to fight for another berth in the WC. As will Pastorville (confirmation coming shortly).


Tynelia, I'm weird in the fact that my players age 3 years in between WCs, hence why some of my players have been around since WC XX (of course a time freeze in our homeland and their young ages when they started help too).

WC2 hosts the Holy Empire tentatively sign up in the off-chance that the Archregimancy gets to host WC28.

The Holy Empire Football association reserves the right to withdraw if the Archregimancy does not win co-hosting rights.

For the purposes of OOC sign-ups, Alasdair I Frosticus is a puppet of the Archregimancy. In RP, it's the other way around

Chair of FANA nd Novelle Angleterre's Sports Secretary, Mastt Buxton MP, said "I firmly believe that international ssporting events are an integral part of maintaining good international relations and lifting the morale of the country as a whole".

Lee Vickery, Nouvelle Angleterre's national team manager, said "WE are very enthusiastic about competing in these competitions. We believe that it is a great oppertunity to establish this country on the international sporting stage. Although we are fledgling nation in sporting terms and have enjoyed little success so far, i beleive that we have a talented group of players who are capable of springing a surprise on their day. Well, seeing as the Raging Penguins football team still lives(after losing rather badly in The Lancre Cup), we'll enter them into the 28th World Cup, and although we feel that it may not be quite as violent as the Lancre Cup usually is, perhaps our team will get jumped by their opponents, or something. Hopefully, they'll all die, or at least, not come back.

We've never taken part in a World Cup before, but we don't intend to join the BoF.

In a statement earlier today, head coach of the McPsychoville Minutemen Nate Webb - still leading the national team despite a disappointing performance in WC27 - said of the 28th World Cup "Bring it back on".
Having failed to qualify for the knock-out stages of the cup, the Minutemen will be taking part in the Cup of Harmony later this year, and we can only expect Webb to make some serious changes to his squad. As he himself said 'For a team supposed to love attacking, we didn't do well there at all - eighteen goals in sixteen games is a pretty poor average'

The New-Lexington soccer team soccer club is looking to WC 28, and the Baptism of Fire with great anticipation, but low excpectations. A defenceman, Mason Crosby has looked good in drills, hes big and very physical, he lead the New-Lexingon premeire leauge drawing 46 yellow cards during the 50 game season. Trevor Trudeau is one of the best dribblers in the world, but lack size. He could get banged around by opposing defencemen. Trevor Griggs is a profolic goalscorer at striker, and he has good size. Michael Lee is s superb goaltender with quick feet. Frazier Smith... well he sucks, but he still made the roster.

Yes. Anyone can enter (leaving aside for a moment the limits on puppets).

Follow the links in the very first post on this thread to find out more about the tournament, and if you want to enter, simply make a post in this very same thread saying 'Smackboxistan enters the World Cup' or something like that.

Emphasis on signing up for the BoF :) It's a good way to get your feet wet in sports RPing, and a nice way to at least get a small leg up on the other new teams.

On that note, for those who are wondering, the Baptism of Fire will start after the World Cup Championship has been determined, so get those signups in!

The BoF will start in a bit over a week. As the World Cup Championship will be on April 8, current plans will be to close signups for the BoF on April 9. We'll do the group draw either late on the 9th or on the 10th, and then MD 1 will be by the 12th, if not sooner.

Note that this is subject to change, but this is the current plan :)

BoF is a great way to boost your rankings in the World Cup. The World cup tournament uses a system called KPB points. All new nations start at 0 KPB points. The BoF allows your nation to get some points as well as some practice in RPing.

The Baptism of Fire tournament is a preliminary tournament to the World Cup, in which only new nations (newbs) are allowed. It was created by Kaze Progressa to encourage such nations to be involved in World Cup 12, which was to be co-hosted in the country - as well as to showcase the nation's less absurdly-sized stadia and to test the innovative scorination formula for WC12. More recently, it has emerged as a regular fixture in the sporting calendar. The RP-bonus is higher than usual (and furthermore is the only variable separating the teams besides luck) since the main intention of this tournament is to give a ranking boost for the World Cup to RPing newbs. Indeed, the Baptism of Fire tournament (slang: BoF) influences the KPB ranking system.

The BoF will start next week, and take roughly two weeks, at the most. If the Archreg and NMS are ready, that puts the next one starting in, er, late April. Good call :p

A nation from my region TGed me and was having trouble signing up with Jolt and whatnot. We will get this figured out soon, but for now, he is preliminarily in for the Baptism of Fire. But note, he must confirm his entry to be entered in the World Cup.

CO-HOST ANNOUNCEMENT:

World Cup sign-ups will close the minute we reach 105 teams.

This means that there are ten sign-up spots remaining, (not including Dauna Hills, below - which I suppose means there are now nine).

If, for some reason, we don't get 105 teams, we'll do something unspecified but no doubt clever with the group draw ;)

EDIT: because NMS pointed out to me that the 97 teams includes the hosts, who don't need to qualify, so only 95 teams requiring a qualification campaign had signed up. It's always encouraging when at least one of your co-hosts can count, isn't it?

Zorinia is a new nation here as of about 2 days ago...and this definitely sounds interesting - but I see Baptism of Fire for new nations is closed. Is there a way I can inquire about more information about it, for future tournaments? And yes, I have read the Wiki article (which did indeed help).

"Blakhole wishes to sign up for the World Cup" or something very much along those lines. Normally you'd be also able to sign up for the 'Baptism of Fire' as a new WC nation but that is already happening. So you'll just have to start in the WC.

I said I would like to sign up on the previous page and got a telegram thanking me and directing me to the Baptism of Fire, but it seems to already be nearing the end of that tournament so would somebody who knows what they are doing please let me know what I should do. I would like this to be Talmeria's first World Cup if you would still have me despite the lack of BoF experience

By my count (subject to final confirmation) the sign-up of the Federation of Alberthame gives us precisely enough qualifiers for 15 qualifying groups of 7 teams each, with the top two teams in each group qualifying directly for the World Cup.


I have not included Blakhole in my count as they never actually signed up, merely asked how they could sign up. If anyone wishes to protest this decision, please telegram me directly rather than clog up this thread.
