Hi, I'm a new guy(could you tell by the title of this thread?) who really needs to know how the hell to play. More or less I want to know how to raise taxes, build an army and take over. Sorry if thats what all of the newbies say.

Just need some new people advice seeing as there really isnt a thread for that.

I should probably not be the one explaining this but...

First off, there are guides. Read carefully the Stickies at the top of the forums.
Secondly, You dont 'raise and army' as such in the sense of a normal game, nor can you just click a button and have high taxes. Taxes are a variable that is altered by the selections you make upon Issues.
As for the army bit, could someone else take over as I doubt I could explain...

Armies are what you claim them to be, within reason. If you've got a 5 million population, typically here on Nationstates, armies will be between 0%-2% of the total population. At maximum with 5 million civilians, you'd have a regular standing army at 100,000 troops. Of course, you can roleplay having certain technology levels, but a word of advice, it doesn't hurt to start from scratch and work your way up through role-playing/storytelling to more complex technology.

Take my nation for example. I started out as a late medieval era type of civilization. Over the past two and a half years, I've worked it up to it's current level at just past post-modern technology, and starting to get a firm grasp in future technology. Of course, like me, you are welcome to mix fantasy with reality to create your own style. I've got different races, different technology, and different ways of life in general that distinguish everything I do as Tarlachian.

Hope that helps!

Oh, it's also a very good idea to read the stickies, as they will help you understand more on any questions you'll have.

Zigman, on NS you roleplay everything.

For example, if you have a war with someone that you end up losing, your nation will not be any smaller, nobody will have died... and you can go and have another war.

If you want to just sit back and read others' RPs, then fine, your nation will be ignored, and most people won't even know you exist.

To answer your question more precisely :
-When you have a war, you will RP the "declaration of war", each battle, each event, and each happening. Some even go and RP the treaties.
-You cannot 'generate' a war with someone without his consent.

Also, type with caps and punctuation... It's not very "head of state" to type a lowercase "I".

There are many threads designed to help out new forum users and new roleplayers. The ones stuck to the top of the forum (You can tell them, they're the ones with STICKY: in front of them) are very good at that. There's also a link in my signature which links to a guide I wrote designed to help out new people find their feet roleplaying. Although it may sound a bit bigheaded to others, I think it's worth reading.

Here's the link. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=463085)
