We have 19 teams thus far. Hoping for a few more. Either way games will begin on Sunday, February 19, 2006. Feel free to add rosters, news reports etc to this thread. I will be using this thread to post all schedules and scores just to keep it all in one place.

I have already written two stories in regards to this new league and my teams as an example...

Feb. 7, 2006

NEW INTERNATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE ANNOUNCED (http://www.geocities.com/PopularFreedomTicker/2006-02-07-001.html).
Will include towns not currently apart of the PopularFreedom Rugby League.

Report by: Judeson Cartley
PFT News, Camelot

The rumours are true. For months now there have been rumours that the town of Camelot, despite their recent failure at getting a rugby franchise in the national league, has been on the verge of getting together other areas of the nation to get a rugby league of their own up and running. Yesterday that plan was finally advanced into reality.

DRAGONS COME OUT ON FIRE. (http://www.geocities.com/PopularFreedomTicker/2006-02-06-001.html)
Defeat Invaders in exhibition tilt.

Report by: Stephen O'Malley
PFT News, Locke Harbour

The Dragons are back. Sporting a new attitude with their International Rugby League (IRL) championship, the Locke Harbour Dragons wasted no time in proving that they would be back with a vengeance this year after their 27-7 victory over the Athens Invaders at Champions Heaven Stadium last night.

New League for Aust

Aust Rugby Leagues Incorperated last night announced the formation of a new league to supliment the Aust Super League. The New league, entilied The Premire Rugby league, will be contested between the best teams from several nations, including 3 from Aust and PopularFreedom, creatign truely international league.

The three highest placed teams in the ASL will be premoted into the PRL this season, and a relegation/premotion system between the two will be introduced-the bottom placed Austian team being relegated every year and replaced by the champions of the ASL.

This means that the Aust City Tigers, Tanka Sharks and the Trijian Army teams will compete for the PRL tital this year. We have a rundown of the teams and there chances now:

Aust City Tigers
The Aust City Tigers are the champions of the ASL and the tops tips for the PRL this year. Containing the bulk of the Austian world cup winning squad they are a strong team and are also the oldest in Aust.

From there base in the 160,000 seater Aust City Stadium they plan to take the league by storm with the scintillating backs that contain the lights of Chris Howick, Harry Rushmore, James Aust, Jacob Wirht and Johnny Moore. There coach John wells is a skilled tactitian and well capable of helping the Austians beat any team in the league.

2) Chris Riply
3) Ryan Binner
4) Steve Cuthbet
5) Chris Cuthbet
6) Joel Gill
7) Sam Tip

Though a Germanic nation, several provinces formerly occupied by Grays Harbor through the first half of the 20th century fostered a renewed interest in rugby after 1986. Though soccer remains much more popular the Rugby Union teams have begun to participate in International competitions.

Just a reminder to get your 50 points distributed before the games starts this coming Sunday.

Those with rosters and RPing and with the points distributed will get a bit of a bonus for all games played (not much, but a little bit)

Also, anyone interested in doing my games to avoid conflict of interests let me know though you will need excel to run the simulator (which I am still fine tuning)

PS: This is my way of bumping the thread while still providing new info. :)

the three Austian teams in the RPL faired well today in the 1st round of matches. Two Austian won while the other, Tanka sharks, lost at home to Crusaders San Felipe 16-6-David Lougheed kicking the 2 peniltys for Aust. Needless to say a vocal Shed crowd where not impressed with the UAtsians lackluster performance and made there feelings known.

Aust City Tigers played there first game of the season away at Tijuana Looters, winning 16-14 in a close game. The Tigers went ahead with a early try from James Austin but the Looters came back with two quick trys before the break to put the Tigers down 14-7. Harry Rushmore was again in excellent form as he kciked the Austians to victory with 3 peniltys.

Trijians Army started there season with a win at home to Breakers Sajavailza. The army men crushed there oppenants 40-28 in a high scoring match, Martain Johnson the hero with a hat trick from a veriaty of sinatlating breaks.

SAINTS LOSE IN INTERNATIONAL RUGBY.
Camelot Wasps only PopularFreedom team to win their first match.

Report by: Simon Montelo
PFT News, International Report

Coach Albert Greenshaw knew he had a huge task in front of him when he was given the job as coach of the newly formed Sacredicity Saints. His focus was defense, and though he was somewhat successful in this goal, it will no doubt be hoped by fans of the Saints the Greenshaw is able to teach his squad a few things about offense before the next game. The Saints still played relatively well however in their loss to the Hendrixtowne Serpants.

CR Oscilloscopes very own rugby team yesterday won their first ever international club game in the newly formed Rugby Premier League.

It was a tight game throughout, with both sides playing good rugby at times, but in the end the match was won by a three point margin. After the game, the 1'000 supporters who had travelled away to the match spilled out onto the streets to celebrate well into the night.

Team manager Josef Reed described the victory as 'momentous' and 'my [his] proudest day'. Team captain King Firham praised the team's tenacity and bravery in the face of tough opposition. He also spared a word for the opposition, describing their play as 'Strong' and the team as 'unlucky to lose'.

The victory leaves Tubur & Beldere RFC 3rd in the Rugby Premier League table.

It is expected that the Tijuana Looters will roll into town later today for their match on Wednesday against the hometown Sacredicity Saints, something that has the town of almost 100,000 people buzzing with excitement. Despite the disappointment of their opening day loss many within the city have high hopes for the Saints in their inaugural rugby season.

BRUNSTONE FACE TANKA SHARKS AT HOME.

Brunstone - The Avalanche are ready, so they claim. Then again we have heard this rumour before, specifically just before they were hammered by the Trotskytowne Bolsheviks 16-12. One can only hope they plan to show up for this game against the Sharks who were likewise hammered in their first outing of the season.

SAINTS CRUSHED IN HOME OPENER.
Tijuana Looters go on try scoring spree.

Report by: Simon Montelo
PFT News, Sacredicity

Having lost a close match on Sunday, it was hoped that the Saints would put a more dignified effort onto the pitch and come away with a much more rewarding effort against the Tijuana Looters. Alas, the Looters however were all fired up as well and used their speed to get around the slow moving Saint forwards and backs to easily run up the score and win the match at Heavens Gates Field in Sacredicity.

Tubur and Beldere scorch past sorry Salerno
Tubur & Beldere RFC 40-26 Salerno Seahawks

CR Oscilloscopes professional rugby team Tubur and Beldere today, recorded their second win of the season to leave them sitting second in their group.

It was the team's first home match of the campaign, having previously beaten Toronto Blue Jays away, and it was thought the pressure of a home match might cause the team to struggle, with many pundits predicting a loss. The players made these same pundits eat their words, however as they put in a scintillating performance to defeat an unlucky Salerno team. The win was to the delight of over 18'000 Tubur and Beldere fans who packed the newly built Polic Neuvau Stadium.

After the game, team manager Josef Reed once more heaped praise on the players, saying that they were 'Improving by the day', and that performances 'Can only get better'. King Firham, the team captain also praised his fellow colleagues, and picked out Scrum Half Greg Herrlik as his Man of the Match, 'he man played a blinder' he said, 'Kicking, running, tackling; it was all superb'.

Tubur & Beldere make it three on the trot
Tubur & Beldere RFC 34-31 Charlottenburg MfV Eintracht

The professional rugby team Tubur & Beldere RFC yesterday scraped past fellow high-flyers Charlottenburg MfV Eintracht, to leave them second in their group.

Going into the match, held in an impressive Charlottenburg stadium, both teams hadn't lost a game, and it was billed as Tubur and Beldere's toughest fixture so far. The team, however on the night linked perfectly, and did just enough to bury the home team.

In his post-match interview, team head coach Josef Reed, once again heaped praise on the team, for their 'spirit and togetherness'. Captain King Firham was in the same vain, and picked out winger Gunther Hall as the man of the match, the player having scored two tries.

Brunstone - While scouts from the Camelot Wasps, and the Sacredicity Saints looked on, the Tubur & Beldere RFC put on a clinic in their destruction of the hometown Brunstone Avalanche at Savage Field in the town of Brunstone.

Tubur & Beldere RFC 40-9 Brunstone Avalanche

CR Oscilloscopes' only professional rugby team today climbed to the peak of the Hastings division with a stunning demolition of Brunstone Avalanche.

The teams went into the match, with completely opposite records, Tubur & Beldere having won their previous three games, Brunstone having lost theirs, this making the away team hot favourites. Brunstone never looked like causing an upset however, as tries from Gunther Hall and King Firham sent their team top of the group, and also made them the only team in the entire Rugby league system, to have won every game.

After the match, Josef Reed one again heaped praise on the players, and singled out the captain, King Firham as being the best player on the day. The victory had CR Oscilloscopes fans celebrating this high point in the club's history, with partying, both in the cities of Tubur and Beldere and the town of Brunstone.

WASPS GET STUNG AGAIN.
Fall 20-15 to Chesterfield RC

International - The Camelot Wasps, were unable to hold off a late charge by the opposition and lost a close match yesterday by a score of 20-15.

The Wasps, who had built up a tremendous lead in the first half, 15-0, saw their lead evaporate in the second half as Chesterfield clawed back to bring themselves to an even score before putting away the final try with just over 3 minutes remaining to send the home town fans into mass celebrations with their 20-15 come from behind victory.

After the match, Flanker Mark McCowan, who scored 2 of the tries for the Wasps in the first half noted that, 'our team just collapsed after losing lineout after lineout, especially when you lose your own lineout it is rather disheartening and I think that is what most did in our team'.

Statistically, though Mark was correct with his assessment, coach Steve Smithy was unwilling to just blame poor lineouts on the collapse of the Wasps in the second half. 'Their rucking was a hell of a lot better than ours that is for sure, coupled with the fact we could not really get the ball out to our speedy wingers and when we could their tackling was quite good. Though our lineouts did not help it was not the only factor in our loss'.

The Wasps can only console themselves in the fact that they return home for the 6th game of the season this Wednesday against the Yellowknife Eskimos. The Wasps are yet to be beaten at home though the Eskimos bring a squad to Camelot that are tied in overall points and styles. Though the Wasps have a slight edge in speed the Eskimos make up for that with their superior lineouts which, except for the Alexandria Titans, are probably the best in the division. Expect a tight match as the Wasps look to rebound from yesterday's loss.

Table-toppers Tubur crush Crusaders
Crusaders San Felipe 27-40 Tubur & Beldere RFC

Rugby Football club Tubur & Beldere extended their winning streak in the Rugby Premier League to five games after defeating Crusaders San Felipe by thirteen points.

The visitors started the game the better, and took an early lead, however the roar of the 19'000 full house crowd seemed to lift the league leaders into raising their game, as they scored three tries just before half-time to go in in front.
It was more of the same at the start of the second half, and by the time Crusaders had another spell, the game was wrapped up and it was all the visitors could do to get within thirteen points.

The win delighted manager Josef Reed, who praised the tenacity and stamina of the players, as well as praising the fans, who got behind the team, 'We couldn't have done it without them' he told a reporter. Team captain King Firham after the match praised the away team's bravery and commitment, describing the contest as 'The toughest match so far this season'.

HOME SWEET HELL.
Wasps beaten by last second drop kick at home.

Camelot - At the end of the day coach Steve Smithy can look back upon this day and note that fortune was against him, that is all. Of all 16 matches played in the Rugby Premier League (RPL), only 2 home teams were successful so in the end one could blame higher forces for the loss. However, realistically, coach Smithy will no doubt look to other events.

The match itself started well for the Wasps on a scorcher in Camelot. Despite the rest of the nation under a cold snap, Camelot hit an unusually balmy 35 Celcius for this time of year. Factor in the humidity and the game was being played in the mid 40s. 'Freaking hot', was all 8 man Jefferson King could muster during halftime on how the heat was affecting his game.

Early on King was a force of steel as he smoked through the Yellowknife Eskimos defense for an early score to put the Wasps ahead 7-0. Following two Eskimo penalties King again was able to punch it through for a second score, which with the missed convert increased the Camelot lead to 12-6. After the teams traded penalty scores the Eskimos were able to score a try just before halftime to bring them to within one with the score 15-14 at the half.

In the second half the Eskimos were able to break out to an early lead with two quick scores to give them a seemingly insurmountable lead at 28-15. The Wasps however were unwilling to give in. In the 63rd minute of play the Wasps were finally able to get the ball out to their speedy backs who ran one in to close the score to 28-22. A penalty kick at the 70th minute made the score 28-25 and then a try into the corner at the 81st minute by Flyhalf Bob Marketlonte sent the masses at Oceancove Field into celebration as the Wasps retook the lead 30-28.

'We thought we had it', noted Outside Centre Cliff Clemons after the match in regards to the Wasps let up in the final minutes after clawing their way back from a 13 point deficit. The Wasps almost did get the win, however the Eskimos pressed while the Wasps tried to defend their lead, allowing in the 90th minute a Eskimo back to drop kick the ball from just inside the Wasp 40 yard marker. As the ball crossed through the uprights to give the Eskimos the 31-30 lead, the final whistle blew to the groans of the entire stadium as the Eskimo players ran onto the field in celebration.

Afterwards in the locker room the Wasps just hung their head in shame as silence permiated the air. The loss seemed to have shocked the fans too as the normal ruckus usually heard after a match at Oceancove Field was replaced by the sounds of background noise as subdued fans left the stadium quickly and quietly.

With the loss the Wasps now fall to a record of 3-3, two points out of a playoff spot. It is hoped that they can rebound in their next match against division leader Schwerin SV Werder as the RPL season reaches the halfway point after this coming Sunday's matches.

Tubur & Beldere scrap for away win
Tubur & Beldere RFC 34-33 Tanka Sharks

Rugby team Tubur & Beldere today managed an important win away against Tanka Sharks. It was a match however, from which they will emerge, thanking their lucky stars, as they squeaked the win by just a point.

The game started strongly for Tubur & Beldere, as two early tries gave them a good lead. They relaxed however, and by half-time Tanka were just three points behind. In the second half, the Sharks emerged ferociously and a try gave them a surprise lead. Tubur & Beldere bit back, with their own try to retain the lead and then another to give them an eight point advantage. Some good kicking and another try saw Tanka draw level and then in an enthralling last few minutes, pull ahead. The away side fought ferociously at the tiring defence, however and with three minutes on the clock scored a try to take them four points clear. A dropgoal for the home team unsettled nerves some more, but the league leaders held on.

Josef Reed was quick to condemn the early casual attitudes of his players, after the game. He did however go on to praise the squad's fighting spirit and heart in eventually grabbing the win. King Firham called Fil Verden, the late tryscorer, the man of the match for his ' Fantastic tackling and movement'. Unfortunately Fil was injured in the 79th minute and could be facing a spell on the sidelines.

The win keeps Tubur & Beldere RFC top, one win above Charlottenburg.

RPL on verge of bankruptcy?
League cancels second part of season and goes ahead with playoffs as financial mess comes to light.

Camelot - With dwindling attendance and television stations opting out of contracts the Rugby Premier League seems to be destined to a one season hurrah.

The league, a formation between the nations of Aust and PopularFreedom, has run into numerous problems of late coupled with a lack of attention from national newspapers in nearly all countries participating. Even in rugby hungry PopularFreedom, the league is only getting occasional coverage in most of the dailies.

'The Wasps suck and they are the best of our teams', noted one disgruntled fan after Camelot lost their 4th match and are now eliminated from post season play.

Meanwhile the PopularFreedom towns of Brunstone and Sacredicity suffered even worse fates than the Camelot Wasps, with Brunstone being unable to win a single game throughout the season. It is hoped that the league will be able to survive until next season though it is suspected that only a few teams will survive by that time including the Hastings Division leader Tubur & Beldere RFC. Fans of the three PopularFreedom teams need not worry either with the likelihood that the three PopularFreedom teams will be picked up by the PopularFreedom Rugby League in 2007.

All happening in Rugby Premier
Trotskytowne Bolsheviks 16-24 Tubur & Beldere RFC

Just hours after Tubur & Beldere won their latest league match, the league half-collapsed amidst rumours of bankruptcy. The league has ended the divisional matches, and introduced the playoff matches with immediate effect. Rumours of the league's financial trouble were soon after reported in a newspaper from PopularFreedom, where a lot of the league administration is held.

The latest Tubur & Beldere win was their seventh from seven league games and means the team end the first part to the season with a better record than any other team. The scoreline of the match, 16-24 failed to reflect on the dominance of the home team, who seemed to prefer cruising through the game, rather than burying the underdogs. The win, and the team's record surely makes them favourite for the RPL title, yet manager Josef Reed stressed that, 'It gets harder from here'.

In the one-legged semi-final regional match, T & B will play Salerno Seahawks, a team they have beaten previously by a margin of 40-26 earlier in the season. The winner will then play either Toronto Blue Jays or Charlottenburg MfV Eintracht.

The seemingly imminent collapse of the league spells danger for Tubur & Beldere RFC and its employees as they are the only professional CR Oscilloscopean rugby team. Whilst it is too early to contemplate, there is a chance, that they may choose to spawn a new national rugby competition.

RARC sees two make Semifinals

Central District - The RA Rugby Conferderation saw it's most prestigious clubs slide into the semifinals of the first Rugby Premier League.

Considering Colombo-based Risian and Sajavailza-based Breakers recent performance in intewrnational play, it's been encouraging that the sides continue to do excellently well as the nation slowly emerges from their two-year civil war under the new Tripart National Alliance between the Risian Kingdom, Aramour Kingdom and the Southern Alliance Republic.

The Breakers, led by Johnny P'laziak, will be heading to CR Oscilloscopes to take on Tubur & Beldere RFC, champions of the Hastings Division, while Risian travels to face off with fellow top-seed Schwerin SV Werder in the second semifinals.

"For our small nation to have two clubs reach the semifinals of the tournament in our first year is exciting," said M'jai L'zakl during the weekly RACR meeting. With the nation able to watch the rugby matches more often than their faltering football side, many expect the RARC to receive a major economic windfall for the 7 Risian, 7 Aramourian and the 2 Southern Zone teams in the league.

Breakers will finish the third RACR championship with their second title, holding off 87 Chisnao and Crusaders for the title. Sails Peace Harbor was the best Risian side, finishing a distant fifth from the more dominant Aramourian clubs and the surprise finish of the Southern Zone capital. Breakers, Sails and 87 are expected to be the RPL clubs in the second edtion.
