Presidential Elections in Nedalia

Nedalia
06-02-2006, 15:05
Election year looms over Nedalia again, and the main story, ofcourse, is President Bren's intention of running for a third term. To clarify, the Nedalian constitution makes it clear that candidate who receives the most amount of votes directly from the people (popular vote) will serve as President, no exceptions. Serving President Andrew Bren can hypothetically run for President as many times as he wants, and if elected, can serve as many times as he is elected.

President Bren announced yesterday that he would be placing his name on the candidate list, immediately making him the heavy favorite considering his unwavering popularity on mainland Nedalia (the Western Territories, however, is a different story.) However, the past years has seen an increase in the popularity of the Reform Party, who have yet to release their candidate.

The Reform Party originally started in Aanjar, and their first political victory came when they defeated the Nedalia Liberal Party in the race for the highly important and symbolic mayoral race of the country's 2nd largest city. Since then, they have gained support from citizens isolated by the seemingly autocratic NLP, and also from those who had grown frustrated by the Labor Party's lack of ambition.

The Labor Party was the 2nd party founded in Nedalia, shortly after the election of President Bren. Despite making alot of commotion and garnering the support of the blue-collar workers in and around Kafra, the noise slowly died out and the party has been losing ground ever since. It is unlikely they will make much of a fuss this elections, but it is rumored that the Reform Party is trying to work a deal with the Labor Party because it is expected that any votes the Labor Party will get will be taken from potential Reform Party votes.

The final and trickiest part of the election process concerns the Western Territories. The highly controversial Western Territories Nationalist Front will be placing its leader, Phillipe Morrier, on the Presidential candidate list, and he is expected to garner quite a few votes in the growingly unstable region. Western Territories Governer Donny Stack (NLP) has denounced Morrier's intention of running for President, claiming that a "terrorist should never, and could never, become President of the Free Lands of Nedalia." How the rest of the candidates will campaign in the region remains a mystery.

The Nedalian government has welcomed any and all international media to cover the election process with releases and comments of their own. (OOC: You can write whatever you wish, to who your country wants to see win the election, to press releases from your own media.)
