Atrox City: An Overview

Atrox City is similar to New York in appearance. The skies are significantly smoggier and Atrox is much larger- about the size of New Jersey. Nearly every building claws to the sky. The city is built around and run by D Corp.; a massive corrupt corporation which makes the rich richer at the expense of the innumerable poor. The city is diverse, both in race and species, though humans are the most common.

Guns and bullets are extremely expensive for anyone without connections, making swords a more popular weapon. The black market has been infiltrated by spies from D Corp. and smuggling in cheaper guns is seen as... unwise.

Atrox is divided into numerous sections. The largest and most important ones include:

The Docks: The eastern city limits are the ocean, making The Docks a major business area. It is also a hotbed for organized crime, despite D Corp.’s massive crusade to eliminate it’s competition.

The Slums: There are numerous slums around Atrox, each named by the people who live there. Though the names change, the scene is pretty much the same in all of them: dirty, loud, and dangerous. Jezebel grew up in a particularly nasty slum named The Blood Sector.

Grand Central: This is where Atrox’s upper class live. It is also, incidentally, the location of D Corp. HQ. The streets are clean, the gardens are alive, and keeping up with the Johnsons is the main concern.

The Halo: The ring surrounding Grand Central where the middle class struggle to stay above poverty. Crime gets progressively worse as one moves further out from Grand Central. This is where Crusader lived and the location of Dr. Wolf’s lab. There are other middle class neighborhoods around the city, this is just the largest one.

Although guided tours of Atrox have been discontinued due to safety hazards, there are a few landmarks worth noting:

Millennium Tower: Located at the center of Grand Central, this massive black obelisk was constructed by D Corp. to celebrate (you guessed it) the dawning of the new millennium. Never mind the fact that it was unveiled two years too late. Rumors are everywhere about this tower’s true propose. Some notable ones include: space weapon, giant cannon, alien communication device, weather control device, and portal to Hell. That’s just the somewhat believable ones, of course.

Pandora’s Box: Atrox’s most infamous prison once had a real name. Now, all anyone remembers is it’s nickname. It’s a fairly accurate description: you open this thing and it’s all over. Money can over-power reason, though. The prison will be described better in the RP.

Atrox Memorial Shopping Center: Biggest. Mall. EVER. Seriously, the Atrox International Airport is located ON TOP of this place. They offer golf carts to help you get around inside. You want it, they sell it in at least four different styles and colors. Of course, with all the hubbub of it’s opening, no one bothered to mention what it was in memorial of... Crime is pretty bad in there: you definitely want to keep hold on your children.

I just made my IC intro post, but as I was finishing it I realized something. I had my characters entering through the airport (on an aircraft), but I just now realized that the intention might have been that they were from Atrox. So I wanted to clear it up and see if my post was okay.

Hey DP, I ran into this rule in a recent RP and I found it incredibly relevent. Not that I'm saying you should adopt it or anything, just take a look.

"1. No quoting. Whatsoever. I can't stand quoting, it takes up unnescessary room and if we can't tell what you're talking about from your post, you have failed. If you're writing relies on quoting as a reference, you have my permission to leave."

I agree that it takes up room and you should be able to tell what they are talking about from the post, however I don't think it is a necessary rule. For one thing, if you can't bother to scroll down an extra inch or two, you probably shouldn't be RPing anyway - it really isn't a big deal. My main point, however, is that if someone isn't (or simply doesn't) post and yet their character is interacted with by multiple other (nations posting that is), then separating them out is often helpful. Also, quoting gives a quick reference to what point was made that induced the reaction of your character...

I agree with DMG here. The quoting can be helpful, especially when you need to catch up to posts and such. I think we should just let it be.

ooc: The six legged one is a mountain-lion analog, not a human/oid.

I realized that. If you read the post you'll see that your mountain lion is only reffered to as a Being (as I defined everything in the group) who happens to have 6 legs. I think this description suits it well and is accurate.

Just a note, I made a few minor tweaks to my characters. Though it shouldn't affect anything as it was tiny characteristics like their ages; nothing to do with their abilities/powers.

His reaction makes perfect sense and it was the same as Nightcat's. It is also agreed by most that it is 'rude' to do it, however apparently in the Ni-Fel culture (which Niri is), it is quite common and they do it to almost everyone (thus not rude).

I'm sure you're all wondering about the new guy. Don't worry, he's just a cameo. He won't be around long.
Name: Mike Shane

Appearance: 5 ft, 9 in. Black hair, hazel eyes. Wears red and black, the colors of his gang, The Atrox City Militia.
Abilities: His left arm is mechanical and able to deploy a shotgun. His real strength, however, is the fact that he leads a sizable gang.
Weakness: Normal human weaknesses.
Bio: Mike started out at the bottom of the city's food chain. Poor and hungry, he became involved with the gangs early. For a while, he performed odd jobs for anyone who would pay him. Slowly but surly, he worked his way up the rungs. He was able to secure a leadership role in a powerful gang. He managed to convince several smaller gangs to join his, uniting many of the slums and bringing relative peace to the poor areas of the city. He maintained this peace through fear.

Also, Atrox is a semi-future setting. I'm not sure if I mentioned this yet. There is also magic, but it is unpredictable and hardly worth the risk.

Yes, are there any rules to magic in your game? I would like to know because my character is a technomage. The system that I was basing the character off of was the Mage: The Awakening game made by White Wolf.

The magic in Atrox has everything to do with it's past (don't worry, that's coming). If anyone other than myself uses magic, it will work as you see fit. However, I'd rather no one else uses magic. I'm going to try and avoid as well, it often leads to cries of, "No fair! Godmode!"

It's fine if you use your technomagic, just be resonable about it.

More advanced. Atrox has yet to develope energy-based weapons, but it does have mechs. All weapons are still based off bullets and explosives, though they can be much more compact. Jezebel has a gun which is only slightly larger than a standard hand gun, yet can fire a highly explosive shell.

I think she could fit into the storyline... as a bad guy or good guy; just say her character showed up late or was a last minute addition. Nothing serious has really happened in the RP yet, just people getting to know each other.

Or we could do it a la Draconis Nightcrawleris. Just pretend she was there the entire time. :P

I don't think pretending you were there the whole time would be as good, but we could always have one of characters introduce you like we did the few NPCs that are running around.

Also, further intelligence reports that DP will not be active today, it appears he will be unnavailable for two or three more days.

In that time, Gnufasur, I'm sure we can build you a side story to introduce your character so awesome that DP won't be able to resist. Trust me, the man loves awesome.

As for Darth Visas... I'm not too sure. Again, it depends on if DP wants me in or not... If he wants me in, I'm sure I can find a way for the villian to fit in. Or if not... No loss.

She offered to take him along as her guest, and he accepted. Too bad for her, she never learned that one of Tommi's many mottos is "Never sleep in the same person's bed twice."

In an attempt to get this thread back on topic and to further steer it away from the dangerous whaters that be NSMV (YARR!), I'm going to take this opportunity to clear with DP something that Narine has been working on.

Pivoting.
Given the knowledge that her and her doppleganger are completely interchangeable, and that she can cast her doppleganger into any space within her realm of vision, she can, logically, cast a doppleganger, take that form and abandon her own, and then cast another doppleganger and so on and so forth. This would allow her to move great distances in admirably short amounts of time.

Unfortunately, since the doppleganging process expends enormous amounts of stanima, she won't be very good to go once she gets there, so it's currently a tactic only good for (pardon my french) running away.

Oh yeah, and tirinia, I know you won't read this, but just to make everyone aware, I must remind you that both of the RPs you are participating in right now (Both of which you seem to be very fond of too) sprung from NSMV. The Pure project from the first NSMV and Atrox itself a brainchild of DP as Kaivah in the second NSMV (which came third). Good, no, magnificent things came out of both of these RPs, this cannot be denied.

All of Dancing Penuin in controled a vicious and self-rightous regime. The exception is Atrox, thanks to a series of aggrements with D. Corp. (which is, incidentally, the only company not controlled by the regime). This regime is run be over-sized talking penguins. I'll give you a moment to reread that.

I must say I'm confused, What does happen in your post?

Quentin is a technomage, meaning that he enacts his magic through techknowlogical focuses. So for him, he creates magic by writing new programs. He also saves programs that seems useful to him. That is why he was able to change the lead to silver in his pistol so fast, he has a program in his glasses and gloves that allows him to substitue one element for another.

The system that I basing this off of had different mages having different beliefs on how to inact magic. Each mage had different beliefs, but those beliefs were divided into several different, distinct groups. One being mages who believed that the world can be changed with computer programs. (I am putting this simply, if you want me to I can give you a more complete description of what Quentin believes in) One group of mages believed in mathmatical formulas and geometric shapes. (Like using circles to summon deamons and stuff, kind of the smae thing King Soloman supposedly did) One group of mages believed that music, sex, drugs, and pleasure could bring about magic.

And the list goes on. If you want me to I could give you a full list.:)

Yes, concievably I could just scramble everyone's atoms. However, on the charcter sheet that I have for Quentin, (Yes, I have a character sheet for him. Stop giving me strange looks) his Life Sphere, (His ability to do magic involving biology in some way) is nothing. I interpret this to mean that if he wants to do something to your body he is going to have to introduce an inanimate object to do it, i.e. a nanite which replicates it self and steals all the water from your body.

What he is profiecient in is Matter (the ability to affect inanimate objects) and correspondance (The ability to move stuff around) with a little bit of power in forces (lightning bolts and fireballs)

So, Quentin is not going to go around changing people into gold, even if he felt like playing Midas for the day.

P.S. In game terms, what this means is that Quentin has only a basic understanding of biology. (Ex. You breathe in Oxygen, you breathe our Carbon Dioxide) He really dosen't have the disposistion or the knowledge to heal or kill anyone through biology

Try this one on for size DMG. It took a lot of programming for quentin to write lead into silver by rearanging proton structures (It'd also have a significant side effect of alpha and gamma rays, but let's not get into that) and the lead was in its most natural state only depending upon itself for the transferance and shaing of electrons. However the elements that form the more biological structures in our body, and even compounds such as water, have significantly more powerful and strong electron bonds that are fundamental to other elements, atoms, and molecules and all that nonsense. Essentially all the things that keep these bonds going, in Quentin's eyes, are programs. And since these ones are much vital than free form lead, and more important to other programs the are much better protected in the way of things and it would take an unimaginable amount of time to break that code and perform biological technomagic. (I swear to god next person who spells magic with a k will be completely ignored by me). That's why he can do this, but we do not have to worry about golden body parts.

Incidently, Gold is a very useful metal as it has no effect on the human body. It's like water, except it doesn't keep you alive or make you pee. It just has no effect. Which is why Goldschlager is so glorious.

Perhaps I should explain my ire. Here's the deal, in that post Quentin displays the abilities of:
An alchemist (turning lead into silver)
A telekinetic (causing chandeliers to fall)
A pyrokinetinc (controling the sparks from said chandelier)
A technopath (starting/writing "programs" without a keyboard)
A telepath (cominicating with all of the heroes)

Beyong any of this, however, is the speed at which you did these things. Your powers seem to treat the world as a program. This isn't the goddamn Matrix.

You need to choose ONE of the above mentioned powers and use it. I, personally, would go with technopath (the ability to comunicate with/hack computers/machines with your mind).

In other words, if you attempt to manipulate of move them, they can employ a field of oposite polarity. Oposites happen to attract and your dude is lighter than the mech.

I'll allow Metalicon to stop bullets, however. Just be aware that a rocket will explode if any force stops it.
