A New Day Dawning

Theodrea

The golden yellow and warm oranges grazed the horizon and touched each blade of grass flowing over the land of Theodrea. The wind carried flowery scents mixed with fresh mountain dew over the land.

The rebirth was complete. It was time for her ruling. Although, she had struggled against it, she reluctantly took her duty to her family and the people of the nation of AmandaTheGreat for that nation was now something of books and history. They had evolved into something she thought would be better.

But only time could tell...

"They will be many who will not welcome this change," a small melancholy voice said in the hall.

An older deep voice sounded out, "But there will be many who will support and fight for it to stay. There are many that are on your side Theodrea."

"But I am so young," she sighed, "the elders say. They say that one of my age has no experience to rule a nation, to control the republic. They want to control it."

"This is true my child, but they are the elders and soon the light in their eyes will fade because a new dawning has arrived. We must not be fuddled up with those ways of the past. The only way for a nation to survive and evolve is to allow change. Change is something that is needed."

"I know this, mamuse, but I must do what is right for the people. How am I suppose to do this when I do not even know what is right for me."

"Those things are minuscule, the people are you now and you are them. Their worries are in turn yours. You must take their problems into your hands. This is your duty."

"Or burden," grumbled Theodrea.

A dry rough hand cupped the young girls smooth chin. He lifted her chin up slowly.

"Be it true, but you can also be their savor."

Cold crystalline tears dropped down her rouge cheeks and onto his rough hand.

"I never asked for this."

"No one ever does."

Two sets of feet shuffled across the marble floor and fainted off in the distance. These were the first words spoken in the House of Romende the belated daughter of the last Empress of AmandaTheGreat and certainly would not be the last as the new nation grew every second of the new day.

"I called this meeting to secure the republic under our ruling."

A gruff voice, "The new republic is for the people under the rule of our little Theodrea, they have asked for it. What do you, Jeremiah, expect us to do against what is written in the law. Drea has the power to change the laws, we do not."

Growling, "Yes you are true, Leutis, but we have the power to influence the people."

"Why would we bother with such a minuscule task? They mean nothing to me."

A shrill voice broke Leutis from saying anything else, "You are saying the people of the republic mean nothing to you that is why you shall fail if you try."

"Resa is right, the people will help us against Drea. They will..."

"Enough. Are you two mad? We will use the people because they will not go against law or tradition, but they will influence Drea to see things our way. If we ignite the flame they will oxygenate it. And she will comply. Do you gentlemen not know of her duty?"

Grumbling, "Unfortunely, Resa, I know her duty for I taught it to her when she was a toddler and as she is now."

A gruff voice sounded, "Then this will be easy to persuade her then. Besides her having sixteen years, but you taught her. Therefore, can't you easily unteach her."

"Not unteach her, but manipulate what she already knows."

Shrill laughter echoed the barren room. The candles flickered rapidly sending violent images across the gray stone wall. Resa placed her pale bony fingers on the cold black marble table letting her razor blood red nails click against the stone like knifes slicing through metal, sharp and swift.

"Again silly men. You seem to forget someone."

Bushy white eyebrows raise iin question.

Breaking the silence, "Ah...Marcus Terra."

Resa added, "That little wrench's muse and protector."

Leutis asked, "And what do we do with him?"

A cat-like smile crept on Resa's plaster tight face, "Let me handle that problem, you two work on the people. We meet in seven moons time."

The candle light dimmed and died.

Silence and dark remained.

A message was sent out to Marcus and he read it over.

Marcus Terra,
We are pleased with the recent charge with Theodrea; we believe it will be a positive step in the direction we want to go. Although, we are aware of your precieved convictions against us, we are willing to set them straight. We have designated Resa, the third, to cordinate a meeting with you to discuss our future engagements with Theodrea and for our people. We hope you will send us immediate respond to our letter.

The Elders

What exactly are they really planning. They will not do anything to harm my Theodrea. I will make sure of this.

He slipped a small silver knife in his black cloak and walked out of the castle.

Theodrea looked from a window, where is Marcus going? She grabbed her gown and ran off to follow him from some distance.

Resa sat on the lonely wooden bench, waiting in the silence for Marcus. The soft wind turned bitter cold and racked at her long dark gown.

Resa was a woman of her mid 100s and appeared older because of the way she lived. Her once frozen blonde hair now long and stringy a bland gray. It framed her thin bony face, with pale creamy skin. Her complection was near perfect and many people said she killed for her skin, why did she not for the rest of her, like her hair. Her eyes were cold like unused black coal and could pierce anyone’s soul and they would shiver. Her nose curved and pointed at the end, look to be running away from her face. Her body frame was thin-boned and not much meat to grace a woman’s figure. Her black gowns merely rested on her statue like a blanket on a wooden bed.

And now her long thin fingers tapped on the wood, leaving dents in the arm rest. Where is this Marcus, he tests my patience. Just as she spoke she saw a figure of a man approaching.

He cleared his throat, “Resa, it hasn’t been long enough since I have seen you.”

“I agree, but it is needed. Are you alone?”

“Yes. No one knows as of yet of our meeting. I am wondering if it be such a good thing that the elders are interested in Theodrea.”

Her voice shrill, cuts before he can say anything else, “Why should we not be interested in our be[b]loved[/i] little Theodrea. We care for her as we care for the people.”

His laughter spilled with sarcasm, “You do not care for anything Resa. No bullshit with me. I did not come here to hear this. My concern is,”

Her smile brought shivers down his spine, “Your concern is her. It has been since you were put under commandment to protect her. I know the thoughts you think of her. I know what you wish the most. I could give that to you. I could give you what you most desire.”

“You could not know what I most desire.” But does she know?” You have no idea. I came here to see what the elders are stirring up. And mind you I am watching.” His convictions not so strong at the moment, still thinking of Theodrea.

“Tsk.Tsk. Ah, Marcus, you should know what I am capable of doing.” Her catlike smiled curled more with each drawled out second.

His heart ached because he knew what she dealt with, black magic. He must comply with her until he knew what else to do. “What is it you want?”

Before she could answer, “MARCUS,” the distinct voice of Theodrea called out.

Resa raised her pencil thin eyebrows, “Shall we another time.” Not a question, more so a statement, meaning she would see him again, unfortunately.

His gruff voice faltered a bit, “Yes, Drea, coming.”

He left the bench and was nearly knocked off his feet as Drea came running down the hill and almost falling as she reached him. He held her secure in his muscular arms. She rested her head softly on his shoulder. “Where did you go, I missed you.”

Resa rose and slowly made her way by. She said nothing, but her face said more. It said she knew what he most desired and she would grasp that into her very hands sooner or later.
