This is An archist News, the official station of the world cup of baseball.

Patty Paterson: The second NS World Cup of Baseball has finally arrived. In week one, the An archists will play Kaze Progressa, one of the most successful teams from the last tournament. In other baseball action this week Euroslavia will take on Yafor II.

John Johnson: The schedule for this tournament has been entirely remodeled. From now on, the NS World Cup of Baseball will resemble other international sports tournaments, except with five game serieses rather than single games. Also, the games will be played in 5 different stadiums located throughout the island. The location of the first game in each series will be decided randomly among all five locations. The location of the next game will be decided randomly among the remaining 4locations and so forth.

Patty Patterson: Interesting information John. For more information on any of the teams in the World Cup go to nswcbii.com/teams.

{OOC: My apologies to Andossa Se Mitrin Vega. Apparently, you had requested a position in the tournament in the discussion thread and I had completely overlooked you. Furthermore I must commend you for your persistance in attaining a spot in the Cup as you have been attempting to get into the NS World Cup of baseball since the first tournament. Unfortunately you were too late the last time. This time, however, there is still room for one more team and so you will be placed in the fourth slot of Group A. Also, considering your particular circumstances, you will be given an extra week to make your roster. (Final roster changes for the other teams were required by today.)}

Milchama (and Collonie) off to good start(s) in Baseball World Cup

The Milchama Warriors got off to a great start in the second World Cup of Baseball as they beat the Da Philadelfeya Empire, 7-4. Philip Foster did not pitch particularly well but the the hitting picked up the slack scoring 3 runs in the second and 2 more in the 8th to seal the victory. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "We played in an offensive stadium and we did what we needed to do get the win, this is what matters, not how you play but whether you get the win. I expect the Warriors to do well this tournament and probably win."
Now onto the daily redition of how they scored: (OOC: damn I missed baseball)

1st Inning: Foster apparently found the new tournament jitters as the first pitch he threw was a ball. The second pitch he threw was hit by their first batter (F) for a single . Then he managed to get their next batter their third batter (T) got a double to put men on second and third. Then their cleanup hitter (C) ran the pitch count to 3-2 before managing to get a seeing eye single thru the hole and driving in 2 runs. To make it 2-0 DPE.
2nd Inning: After a 1-2-3 first the Warriors responded as Shawn Green got a good start to this tournament hitting the third pitch he saw over the fence to make it 2-1. This was just the beginning for the Warriors as, in a repeat of the old tradition, Tris Speaker doubled home Al Rosen after a single by Rosen to tie the game. Then Barrett Hamilton hit the first pitch he saw over the fence to give the Warriors the 3-2 lead.
Third Inning: After facing 6 batters without giving up a run in the second inning, Foster gave up a run in third when Fifth hitter (X) hit a homerun to make it a 3-3 tie.
Fourth Inning: Foster gave up another solo shot in the fourth as their lead off guy (F) got the shot this time to give the Iggles the lead. The lead was short lived however as Andy Cohen got a single. Then with one out, Harry Danning got a double to drive Cohen in and make it 4-4.
Fifth Inning: Shawn Green continued his excellent game as he hit his second home run, another solo shot, to give the Warriors the 5-4 lead.
8th Inning: After a 7th inning where Harry Danning just missed blowing the game wide open Kenny Merrick did blow the game wide open. He singled to center with one out to start the Warrior rally. Then Buddy Meyer walked to put runners on first and second. Hank Greenberg got a long fly out but moved Merrick to third and that made it two outs and runners at the corners. Then Shawn Green got a double off the top of the wall to drive both Meyer and Merrick in and get his 3rd and 4th RBIs in the game.
Final Score:

ASMV Roars Into Baseball Action

After originally being omitted from the schedule, added at the last minute, and flying in just a few hours before the game was to begin, ASMV had no reason to think they would stand a chance against Hockey Canada in the first game of the NS World Cup of Baseball II. But a chance they had - and they made the most of it.

Location: The Andidome
Starters: Unknown vs. Unknown (Hockey Canada is the home team.)
1 0 0 2 0 0 2 0 6
0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0
Final Score: Andossa Se Mitrin Vega: 11 Hockey Canada: 2

Things got started early for ASMV as a sac fly in the 1st allowed Ichari Naguno to plate. Hockey Canada scored in the 2nd to tie things up. The 3rd was scoreless and the game stayed even. The 4th saw things remain close as ASMV's Jason and allen Campbell both scored runs and Hockey Canada added one of their own. The 5th and 6th were both free of any scoring.Score now 3-2.

In the 7th inning, ASMV began to pull away with a two run blast from Oden Ulrich that also brought in Martin Boudreaux. A scoreless 8th ended with the score 5-2.

The the wheels came off for Hockey Canada. ASMV rang up a six run 9th to put icing on the cake. Solo Home run from Oden Ulrich and Hans Shekler, plus a three run blast from Kipper Doyle(that brought in Jason and Allen campbell) were overshadowed by Ifiyanni Ubara stealing home. The final score:ASMV 11, HC 2.

This was a great start for ASMV but all here expect Hockey Canada to pull things together and make a statement in the next game.

ooc: There has been a delay in the scorination of games because Jolt has been down when I have attempted to log in. Also, Milchama will be cohosting this tournament. He will be hosting the games for groups C, E, and F. Once he feels comfortable with the scorinating program the games will resume. With a cohost, the games will be scorinated with fewer delays and more regularity. I apologize for what I hope is the last delay of this tournament. Thank you, everyone for your continued patience.

Silver opens new World Cup with win

The first-ever game between the Sarzonian national baseball team and Tonissia produced a score worthy of gridball games played in the old National Football League, a 35-10 score that proved to be an aberration for a struggling Silver ballclub that went 15-18 and was eliminated from playoff contention late in the tournament.

The score was much closer to being a real baseball score this time, but the Silver prevailed on the strength of a two run homer by Hank Everly and a masterpiece by pitcher John Morgan en route to a 3-1 win in the World Cup opener for both teams.

Silver manager Jim Paulsen is convinced things will be different this time around for the Silver, saying the experience in the first World Cup was "valuable." He added that the team rebounded from a 1-5 start and "competed like hell" every time out.

"We're convinced that we're a good team," he said. "We lost a lot of close games last time out. If we turn that around, we should be fine."

Morgan went a long way toward turning things around for the Silver (1-0). He took a three hit shutout into the ninth and only a solo home run in the top of the ninth. Third baseman Kate Schmidt doubled down the left field line to give the Silver an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth inning and Sarzonia closed the door.

"We've got a chance to do something positive in this tournament," Schmidt said. "But we're just focusing on Tonissia right now."

The tournament should continue on Monday of next week (no guarantees of course ;) .) I will be getting my own computer this weekend (I have previously had to go to my school library to scorinate the games or post anything on NS.) That should help to make the process of scorinating games easier and less time consuming in many ways. For one, I'll be able to download the emulator software from ticalc.org so that I can run my calculator program on my computer, which is obviously much much faster. (Any of you who are avid gamers know that most of the time emulator software is illegal. This case is an exception to that law because the software is being provided by the maker of the original hardware.) Anyway, thank you all for your patience. Hopefully, I can start scorinating games with more consitancy so that we don't have any more delays. Also, the new deadline for roster adjustments has been set to 12:00 AM Tuesday January, 31 2006 AD.

I finally have my new computer. In fact, I'm sending this post from it. This will help tremendously with the scorination of the NS World Cup of Baseball. I'm having difficulty downloading the emulator software to my PC, but the games will go on as scheduled no matter what. Thank you all, once again, for your incredible patience.

“We won! We WON!”
The Players screamed in excitement and danced about, throwing their hats, gloves, bats (and whatever else they could find) into the air in jubilation.
‘Shooty’ the security bear…Mascot for Iesus Law and Order….did his “BangBang Badguys. Security Bear dance©” around the field much to the delight(and confusion) of the small number of spectators.
His off field antics had proved more interesting to the crowd than the insipid performance by the Iesus batsmen. People had cheered ‘Shooty’ when he ‘pretended’ to maul a batsmen after he returned to the dugout for no result…..a superb piece of acting by the Batsmen followed, who even faked crying and sobbing when ‘Shooty‘ mimed shooting the batsmen in the back of the head and throwing him into a mass grave.
The political officer immediately declared after the game to journalists that this victory was the ‘Will of God’ and full credit for this win should be given to “Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Bridgette Iesus.”

The Couch's only comment was that he believed there needed to be stricter enforcement of the LBW laws.

A home, the news of the win was meet with surprise by the dozen or so people watching the game.

ASMV Picks Up 2nd Win Over HC

0 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
0 2 1 0 0 1 0 1 -
Final Score: Hockey Canada: 3 Andossa Se Mitrin Vega: 5

After the complete Hockey Canada Meltdown in the first game of this series, everyone expected a much tougher game today. And the second inning was just that. Hockey canada exploded with 3 early runs and sent waves of panic through the crowd.

That early panic was quelled a bit as ASMV brought in two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Ichari Naguno and Hans Shekler both plated on Oden Ulrich's double.

Then the score was evened by Shawn Jacson with a solo homer in the 3rd. The 4th and 5th saw little action as both starting pitchers settled into rythym.

Runs from Allen Campbell and Ifyani Ubara in the 6th and 8th gave ASMV a two run lead and set up the HC drama of the top of the 9th inning.

Knowing that they had to produce to have any chance, HC came out on fire in the 9th. Back to back singles followed by a walk loaded the bases with no outs. And then onto the hill came Mony Cavalaise. The first two batters he faced walked back to the dugout shaking their heads in disgsust after 6 straight 100 mile an hour strikes.

The the last chance for HC came to the plate:
1st pitch - drilled hard to left, just foul. Strike one.
2nd pitch - low and inside. Ball one
3rd pitch - low and away. Ball two
4th pitch - Another thunderous hit to left, just foul. Strike two.
5th pitch - Fouled back into the stands
6th pitch - low and inside. Full count.
7th pitch - Fouled away
8th pitch - Fouled Away

Here is the call on the ninth pitch:

Cavalais winds up, and here's the pitch! Its in the dirt! Boudreaux scrambles to find the ball and all runners are moving. Boudreaux has it and tosses to Cavalais covering home. The play at the plate......and the runner is........out!!! ASMV wins! ASMV wins!!! 2-0 to start this thing, and HC leaves the stadium with yet another loss from the upstarts!

Silver stuffed, 8-1

Meet the new Silver, same as the old Silver.

Perhaps it's not that bad for the Sarzonian national baseball team, but after a 8-1 loss to Tonissia that saw a solo homer by third baseman Kate Schmidt serve as the team's only offence, that thought must not be far from the minds of the team.

"We can't win baseball games committing five errors," Manager Jim Paulsen said. "We also can't do much if our starting pitcher (Charlie Palmer) can't get out of the fourth inning."

The Silver (1-1) went to the bullpen early and often, with Paulsen bringing the hook five times in the game starting with his yanking Palmer with two on and two out in the fourth inning with the score 6-0 Tonissia. The team was able to hold Tonissia without an earned run the rest of the way.

"Hopefully, we'll straighten things out for the last game," Schmidt (one for 5) said. "Otherwise, it's going to be another long tournament."

OOC: Sorry for the inactivity! Chinese New Year and all that. Could you use my rosters from last time out?
I've decided to reconsider my policy on roster deadlines. There are two factors which I must consider when setting a roster deadline policy. The first factor is that I want to encourage maximum participation. In consideration of this factor, I must note that having a roster deadline too early will cause some individuals to be unable to complete their rosters on time, and that those individuals will be unlikely to participate if they must do so with the vastly inferior defaul rosters. I also must note, in consideration of this factor, that having a roster deadline too late will encourage procrastination in the posting of rosters and thus lower the participation in the Cup during the serieses which come before the deadline.
The second factor which I must consider is that I do not want players to be able to adjust their rosters each game in order to match up well against each particular opponent. Allowing any roster changes after the first game of the tournament will allow players to make these game to game roster adjustments at least for the first part of the tournament.
Therefore, my new policy on roster deadlines is as follows:

The deadline for posting one's roster (including ratings) is the beginning of the third series. If I have posted the line score of any of your games in the third series or beyond your roster is too late and it will not be accepted. The deadline for all roster adjustments is the beginning of the tournament (the moment when I post the line score of your first game). This means that, while you may wait until after the second series to post your roster, you may not change your roster once it has been posted and the deadline for roster adjustments has passed.

And so, Liverpool England, according to this new, perminent policy for roster deadlines, your roster for this tournament is now the same as your roster from the previous tournament. Furthermore, you may not make any adjustments to your roster now that it has been posted.

Milchama post 2 victories

Quietly the Milchama Warriors have started the NSWBC (NS World Baseball Classic) with a 3-0 record, beating the Da Philadelfiya Empire Iggles 3 times. The first game was already reported with the Warriors crusing thru on a 7-4 victory. The second game was very similar. The Warriors got out to an early 3-0 lead on a Shawn Green home run and pretty much cruised from there as Manny Rodriguez pitched 8 innings of 2 run no hit baseball. This last game though was a challenge as it went 17 innings and used just about every reliever in the Warrior bullpen. It didn't matter in the end though as a 17th inning RBI double by Hank Greenberg drove in Micheal Flinter to end the game 4-3 in favor of the Warriors. Manager Jack Yosefon said, about their latest game, "Well now its getting closer but I have a good feeling coming out of this game. The fact that we pulled out our first tough game is a good sign for things to come. I am particularly happy that when we were down after the bottom of the 8th we came back and scored in the top of the ninth. I think this could be the tournament where Milchama picks up its first winners trophy. (He then knocked on wood.)

Because our reporters are getting lazy and are throwing riots in the streets either in support of their favorite political party or at the hosts of WC26, Commerce Heights and Oliverry, because of the horrible referees that they employed there will not a be a daily rendition of how they scored.

After 2 consecutive losses to the upstart ASMV team, Hockey Canada finally hed on for a win.

A first inning explosion sent HC out to an early 5-1 lead. ASMV scoring on Hans Shekler's solo homer. After that Humphries was sent to the showers in favor of Kiev Svegivney and great pitching ruled the game. It was not until the bottom of the 8th that ASMV scored again on another solo homer from Shekler.

In the bottom of the 9th it looked as if ASMV would stage a rally. A sac fly from Kipper Doyle plated Jason Campbell. And Doyle came in on a double from Homer Doolittle. A short pop up from Ifiyani Ubara moved Doolittle to 3rd but also registered out number 2. Naguno struck out to end the rally just a bit short.

Another game Another win

The Milchama Warriors continued their winning streak to start the Baseball WC, as they beat Da Philadelfiya Empire again. The Warriors got a few early runs and that took the pressure off Erskine Meyer who pitched a great game after struggling early. He went 71/3 innings of 2 run baseball to give the Warriors the W. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "We played well today. Our offense did enough to give Meyer the breathing room neccesary to win. This is shaping up to be one great tournament."
Now the daily rendition of how they scored:
1st Inning: The Warriors got off to a good start. Kenny Merrick singled and Buddy Meyer got a single right after him moving Merrick to third. This put Hank Greenberg up to the plate with a chance to get RBIs. He did just that getting a double that drove in Kenny Merrick and brought Buddy Meyer to the plate but he was thrown out. After a Shawn Green single the next two people got out. That brought the Iggles up and they delivered as their hitter (T) hit a long bomb out of the park to tie the game up at 1.
4th Inning: Harry Danning led off the inning for the Warriors and he did a poor job as he looked overwhelmed before striking out on 3 pitches. This brought up Kenny Merrick who singled before stealing second and third. Buddy Meyer grounded out to the pitcher. Putting Merrick on third with 2 outs. Hank Greenberg then continued his good game as he singled to drive home Merrick. Greenberg went to third on Green's single but he could not be driven home as Rosen got out.
6th Inning: Merrick again led off an inning with a single. This time he only stole second. Then Buddy Meyer showed off some rare power, getting a triple and driving Merrick home to make the score 3-1 Warriors. The heart of the order could not drive Meyer home as they got retired in order.
8th Inning: Meyer began to struggle as he let the first two hitters (H and Q) get hits. He then walked L to load up the bases for the Iggles. After a meeting from pitching coach Larry Rothschild, Meyer got the next batter to ground into a 5-2-3 double play. That put runners on second and third. The next guy up (T) got a single that drove in one and almost two runs had it not been for the great arm of Barrett Hamilton in right field. Meyer was then brought out and Pat Vernon came in. He nailed the save and everybody was happy.

In the fourth game against Hockey Canada, ASMV again pulled away in the latter innings to pick up their 3rd win of this opening series. Leaving fans here more than pleased with their teams early play.

The 1st inning saw the home team gain an early advantage as Boudreaux and Ulricn both plated on Jason Campbell's 2 run double. The second saw both teams put runs on the board. ASMV's Kipper Doyle came across on a sac fly from Homer Doolittle.

In the 3rd inning HC came back to tie the game up with a two run homer. But ASMV came back with a vengeance in the form of a 3 run 4th. Hockey Canada would pull within a run in the 6th, but 3 runs in the 7th and 8th innings sealed the victory for ASMV.

NO one here expected the hot start to this World Cup of Baseball by the upstart ASMV team. We hope the trend will continue as the tourney progresses.

Milchama continue winning streak

The winning streak to start off the second world cup of baseball is looking good for the Milchamians who have won their first 6 games, including a sweep in their first series, as they beat the Da Philadelfeya Empiya Iggles 5 times. They started their next series against RDKN and won, in 12 innings, 8-7 to extend their streak to 6 games. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "We could not have asked for a better start. We have won every game so far and looked like the favorites to win it all. I only hope it can last."

Unfortunately due to our coverage of the Cup of Harmony this is all we could fit about baseball. The Daily Rendition of how they scored should be back up soon.

4 runs in 8th put Milchama winning streak at 7

The Milchama Warriors continued their unprecedented winning streak today as they beat RDKN again this time by a 2 run margin. The Warriors had a poor start to the game as the Japanese pitcher held them to three runs for the first seven innings. Meanwhile RDKN had some offensive of their own as they also scored 3 runs in the first seven innings. The eighth inning is where it opened up and due to the stress on reporters trying to cover so many sporting this where we start the daily rendition of how they scored by the announcer:
8th Inning: "Merrick to lead off the inning. He already has batted three times, going 1-3 with a run scored in the 5th inning. The first pitch to Marrick is a ball. 1-0 the count... The next pitch is low and inside ball 2. Good pitch there by the reliever, but Merrick was ready for it. Now the third pitch is a single to center field. Merrick now on first base with nobody out that brings up Buddy Meyer. Meyer is 0-2 with a walk in the 5th inning. He looks ready to bunt and the infield comes in. The pitch is a floater right down the middle BUT MEYER PULLS BACK AND SWINGS! the ball shoots over the third baseman's head and into left field. The left fielder, who didn't seem to be paying much attention, has let scoot by him and Meyer moves onto second, HE'S GOING FOR THIRD!!!!!! He slides in SAFE! what hit a by Buddy Meyer, a triple. That puts a runner on third and nobody out for Hank Greenberg. Greenberg up to bat now, he is 1-3 with an RBI. They seem to want to pitch around him, and they do ball 1. 1-0 the count. The pitching coach comes out... Now they get ready for the second pitch to Greenberg and its a curveball, and a hanger, Greenberg jacks it back back back back CAUGHT AT THE WALL BY A JUMPING RDKNER!!!! but Meyer tags up and easily scores from third. So that's two runs this inning and one out. That brings up Shawn Green with one out and nobody on. Green has struggled today going 0-3 with a strikeout. Well now there's a pitching change on the field as a new reliever comes in for RDKN... We're back Shawn Green up, nobody on, one out, 5-3 Milchama leads in Plantopia Field. Green takes the first pitch a strike on the outside corner 0-1. The next pitch comes in and its a ball just low, close call there by the umpire, 1-1. The pitch after this is ball no strike 2 as Green looking totally baffled swung at that horrible pitch 1-2. Now the next pitch and what a curveball, Green just stood there that's strike 3 that puts two outs and nobody on for the Warriors. Al Rosen now comes to the plate. Rosen has done well today going 2-3 with a run scored in the second inning. The first pitch comes in and Rosen swings, a texas leaguer over the shortstop's head and that puts a runner on first with two outs for Tris Speaker. Speaker, has had an excellent day, he's 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The pitch and Speaker takes strike one on the inside corner this time... From his motion, Rosen running! The pitcher notices and throws a hanging curveball that Tris Speaker wallops back back back back back GONE! home run! Tris Speaker just hit his first homer of this Baseball World Cup and only his third homer in international play. That makes a four run inning for the Warriors and a 7-3 lead.
9th Inning: No more announcing. Larry Sherry came in to secure the game. His first pitch of the inning was hit out of the ballpark by DK. His very next pitch was hit for a single. Then he walked a guy on four pitches. That put runners on first and second and brought the tieing run to the plate. Luckily for the Milchamians the man up (Q) grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to put a man on third and two outs. The next guy singled to bring home a run but the man after that struck out to end the game and give the Warriors their 7th consecutive victory.

Actually, I was probably about to create a link to that thread anyway, seeing as how I use it every time I scorinate games. Also, it would be a good idea for you to turn in the rosters for Collonie. After defeating the Hotrodians in the first game of their series, ASMV looked like a high school team in the second game. Much of this can be attributed to the flu as 3/4 of the team played sick, including starting pitcher Bubba Dawson, who was absolutely horrible. With only 4 members of the team not ill, it was quite a long afternoon.

Milchama win another thriller

You have to give RDKN credit they have played the Warriors tough. Milchama won again today as they beat the Japanese of RDKN 9-6 in 14 innings. That brings the Milchamian winning streak to 8 games. While this is their 3rd win against RDKN, two of the wins have come in extra innings and the third inning involved an incredible 4 run 8th inning to pull of the win. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "The Japanese have played incredibly spirited baseball. We have barely been able to beat them three times. I think our winning will end by the end of this series."

Unfortunately today is part of the month run up to the week before election day. So with all the rioting we were lucky to get a reporter out here. For the next month there will be not many renditions of how they scored.

High scoring games seem to be the norm for ASMV and Hotrodia. At least against each other. In game 4 of the series, ASMV used a 3 run 9th inning to take away what seemed to be a Hotrodian victory. The second game did not go as well, with Hotrodia holding on for an 8-7 win.

Milchama end winning but start a new one

The Milchama Warriors ended their 9 game winning streak to start the second World Cup of Baseball in their final game against RDKN yesterday. The second game of a bizarre double header which saw the Warriors play a morning game in Andersonville before criss crossing the country to play a night cap in the Andidome. The trip seemed to wear out the Warriors who lost the night cap in 10 innings. They rebounded though in grand fashion as they beat the Mushroom Kingship 5-1 with Philip Foster going 8 and a 1/3 innings for the victory. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "The fact that we won our last game was a good sign. After a loss who are always about how a team will respond and these boys responded beautifully. I can't wait to see another sweep of the Mushroom Kingship."
Now onto the daily rendition of how they scored:
1st Inning: The Warriors started out mad and angry and it showed. As only one pitch in Kenny Merrick slapped a triple off the wall. Then the next man up Buddy Meyer hit a ball that looked like it came off the bat of Barrett Hamilton or Shawn Green as it went flying a good 462 feet before going out of centerfield. That made the score 2-0. That was just the beginning as a single by Hank Greenberg and a double by Shawn Green put men on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Al Rosen then walked to bring the bases loaded. Tris Speaker than doubled in two more runs and brought Al Rosen to third base. nobody out and runners on second and third and a 4 run lead for the Milchamians. The bottom three men got out though but that was still a 4 run inning and a 4-0 lead for the Warriors.
3rd Inning:After a perfect first two innings, Foster gave up one of his three hits. That hit unfortunately was a homer to the number 7 batter (L).
7th Inning: After a long hiatus of staying put and not being able to capitalize of chances (12 runners stranded) Barrett Hamilton finally hits a two out single to drive in Tris Speaker who was on third base. That made the score 5-1.

After moving through series with Hockey Canada and Hotrodia with 3 games to two advantages, ASMV got off on the right track again in the first game with Bipedal Apes. Although the 4-1 score was not as high as the team has grown accustomed to, it was welcome indeed. ASMV seems to be establishing theirselves as the darkhorse Cinderella which could make some noise as this Baseball WC progresses.

Stan Romanson F***s Up

Stan Romanson pitched a horrible game against the Mushroom Kingship yesterday as he pitched only 4 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs. He also allowed 9 hits and two homeruns. The Warrior offense didn't help Romanson either as they only scored two runs and only got three hits after the third inning. The Mushroom Kingship pitcher pitched 8 innings of 7 hit ball to beat the Warriors they're second loss of the second WBC so far. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "This was by far our worst performance of the tournament. After a poor pitching performance like that from Romanson we would like to pick him up and score some runs but we could not get the bats going. They seemed to feel the pressure and just could not perform today. Tommorow I think we will play much better, actually I know we will play much better."

Unfortunately due to our non stop coverage of the CoH we could not give a daily rendition of how they scored except to say 3 errors are a lot.

ASMV Clinches Sweet 16 Berth

Group A - After 3 straight improbable wins ove Bipedal Apes, ASMV has qualified for the round of 16. As did those same Bipedal Apes. Currently at 9-4, The Vegans look like anything but the newcomers they are. Hope is that the hot batting will continue to push the ASMV team to win the group title over Bipedal Apes, who sit now at 8-5.

Group B - The Milchamans have been on cruise control and at 11-2 have already clinched the Group title.

Group C - Yafor 2 looks extremely great as the group champs at 12-1.

Group D - With two games left, this group is wide open. Olivery and Iesus Christi control their own destiny. But dont count out the Wingarde team who can still sneak in.

Group E - NonCitizens are in the drivers seat, but any of the 4 teams still have a shot at moving on.

Group F - An archy and Kaze Progressa are both moving on, the question now becomes who will win the group.

Group G - Fmjphoenix looks to be the odd man out but the 3 other teams all have 7-6 records. Anybody's guess as to who will advance.

Group H - Casari will move on. Tonissia can still claim the group title. And Michael Strickland is still alive as well. Should be Casari followed by Tonissia to move on.

Should be a great round of 16. But lets finish the next 2 games and clinch the Group A title first.

Great batting (and a 4 run 5th) propelled ASMV to their 5 straight victory. And 4 in a row over Bipedal Apes has stolen the Group A title from them.

A solo shot from Martin Boudreaux in the 1st inning was the only run scored during the first 3 innings. Bipedal Apes scored once in the 4th and again in the 5th to take a 2-1 lead.

Then in the bottom of the 5th, ASMV woke up. Naguno scored on a Shekler sac fly. Then a grand slam from Kipper Doyle plated Boudreaux, Oden Ulrich, and Jason Campbell.

Casey Newell and Josiah Persons added runs in the 7th as ASMV cruised to a 7-2 victory and the Group A title. One more game against Bipedal Apes will tune ASMV up for whoever they meet in the round of 16.

ASMV Drops Thriller With Bipedal Apes

After 4 straight wins over Bipedal Apes to clinch the top spot in Group A, ASMV looked to close out on a high note. So did the Apes, though. After seven innings the score was knotted at 4 apiece.

In the 8th ASMV seemed to break it open as the Campbell brothers each found the stands of center field on solo homers. The Bipedal Apes found their missing offense in the 9th, scoring 3 runs. Then their closer closed the door on an ASMV sweep celebration.

All in all though, we are very pleased with results thus far.

ooc: I haven't seen any RP posts concerning the AllStar Series. Any poster can make any RP posts concerning this series. The AllStar Series is one of the most unique features of the NS World Cup of Baseball. It is disappointing to see such little RP participation in this event. I really encourage all of you to post AllStar Series related RPs. In the first tournament, some of the best RP posts came during the AllStar series. So, please everyone post some RPs. Posting RP posts lets me know that I'm not doing this for no reason.

ASMV Sends 5 To All-Star Game

The NS World Cup of baseball II All-Star teams were announced with little fanfair throughout the NS world. ASMV on the other hand, recieved the news with much appreciation.

Of course this could be due to the fact that more ASMV players made the team than from any other nation. 4 players and the ASMV Manager all made the trip to the games.

3B Ichari Naguno, SS Hans Shekler, C Martin Boudreaux, and SLHP Jack Bronson all made the trip with manager Raomone Ortega. And the Armenian team they have been assigned to is 1-1 after two games. We would post the stats, but it's an All-Star game and we really don't care.

Armenians finally win a game

Well it took long enough but after 4 strait losses during two all star series, the Armenians finally won their first game yesterday as they finally beat the Confederates 4-2. It looked good in the first game of the All-Star Series as they scored three runs in the 9th until Larry Sherry came in and closed the deal for the Confederates to give the Milchamian their first ever taste of victory in the all star series. The manager of the Confederates Jack Yosefon, who is also the manager of the Milchama Warriors, said, "Its annoying to be on the first team to lose in the all star series but it was bound and I'm happy the streak did not go on for too long or else the all star series would have gotten quite boring. Despite all that I think we can win the third and keep the Confederate dominance alive for a long time to come."

The Milchamian is drawing ridicoulously close so we have all our spare reporters there.

What we do know is that Kenny Merrick is 3-6 with a double and two runs scored while Hank Greenberg is 3-6 with a homer and 3 RBIs.

Confederates lose series. Milchama about to win one

In another blow to the Milchama all stars they again lost the series this time as a member of the Confederates as the Confederates went down 3-2 in the series. This is not the same result expected though when the Warriors go up against the Florida Oranges in their octofinals matchup. Manger Jack Yosefon said, "This looks to be an easy win but we cannot overlook anybody or else we might just slip up and lose. I have to remind you all that we were favored going against Bipedal Apes last tournament but slipped up and lost. This might be weaker opposition but this is no time for complacency we still need to go out there and play."

Now the infamous Milchamian predictions for the octofinals of the second baseball world cup:

1. Andossa Se Mitrin Vega vs. Tonissia- ASMV has been really active with his newspaper reports while Tonissia really has not. Despite some struggles the Sea Dragons advance thru barely.
2. Milchama vs. Florida Oranges- Sweep. While Yosefon might not be overconfident we sure are, if we lose I gurantee riots in the streets.
3. Yafor II vs. Kaze Progressa- KP is good but Yafor II had a better record than we did so obviously they advance.
4. Oliverry vs. Liverpool England- Baseball seems relatively new in Oliverry while LE seems to have a long tradition of good baseball. The tradition sees them advance to quarters.
5. NonCitizens vs. Iesus Christi- An Archan rebels against some Texans apparently. While we don't exactly know what Texas is we think its big and its good at baseball considering the Texas leaguer was named after them. Iesus Christi advances.
6. An archy vs. Beautiful Yalaluxurios- The real An Archy against a team that since posting a roster has done nothing. An Archy barely moves thru but advances none the less.
7. New Montreal States vs. Da Philelfya Empiya- How did the Iggles get thru? We have no idea but we do know that NMS will sweep them to move on.
8. Casari vs. Bipedal Apes- The former champions against Casari. Well Bipedal Apes might be the champions but they don't even have a roster so this of course means a quick and early exit for the ex champs. Casari moves on.

ASMV To Face Tonissia

The Dragons of Andossa Se Mitrin Vega surprised everyone by running up a 10-5 record through the first three series. And now they move on to face an underachieving Tonissia team who has squeaked into the round of 16 with an 8-7 record. We feel good about our chances. We have put up great numbers so far. We just need to be a bit more consistant. That consistency showed itself in the last series as ASMV took the group away from should-have-been winners Bipedal Apes.

Then 4 players and the manager guided the Armenians All Star Team to a 3-2 series win over the Confederates.

What will this round bring? Hopefully more great news for ASMV fans. Besides, we want a shot at MIlchama before we are done here.

This is An archist News, the official station of the NS World Cup of Baseball.

Patty Paterson: The An archists have advanced to the second round of the second NS World Cup of baseball. This week they will play Beautiful Yalaluxurios in a five game series to decide who will go on to play the winner of Yafor II vs. Kaze Progressa. In other baseball action, Andossa Se Mitrin Vega will play Tonissia and Milchama will square off against Florida Oranges. So far, James Jameson leads the team with a .348 batting average while Jimson and Taylorson lead the An archists with 10 steals and 5 home runs respectively. In an interview earlier today, Taylorson talked about the team's performance so far and his hopes for the rest of the tournament.

Taylor Taylorson: I think we did a pretty good job winning the group in our first year of competition. Group F was one of the most difficult groups in the tournament. I think, though, that there are a few areas, like fielding and baserunning, where we could still improve. If we take care of the little things, I think we have a shot at the Cup.

Patty Paterson: And so, coverage of the elimination rounds in the Second NS World Cup of Baseball begins next.

ASMV Stages Rally To Beat Tonissia

The game between ASMV and Tonissia was a rocky one at Plantopia Field for the newly named Psuedo Dragons. Tonissia rocked starter Jack Bronson for two runs in the first inning. The next 6 1/2 innings saw great pitching from Bronson and Tonissia's Ace Harburi, with no runs being allowed.

The bottom of the 8th changed things dramatically as Jason Campbell's two run blast sailed over the left field wall evening the score at 2 apiece. And the 9th inning saw neither team come close to a score.

It was the bottom of the 10th that made the difference for ASMV. 2 outs and no one on base was the way things stood when Martin Boudreaux stepped up to the plate. The first pitch was low and away - Ball 1. Boudreaux fouled off the second offering. 1-1 count. Another foul saw the Tonissian reliever go up in the count 1-2. But two pitches that just missed the corner filled the count.

One good pitch. That's all Boudreaux wanted. And a mistake by the pitcher gave it to him. The entire Tonissian team watched helplessly as the ball sailed staight over the center field fence, giving the win to ASMV.

Milchama's prediction of "barely" came true in this one.

Milchama get first win in line for sweep

In a brilliantly pitched game the Milchama Warriors beat the Florida Oranges in the first game of their octofinals series 2-0. The game was close throughout as no runs were scored after the first inning. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "Its not often that we get a complete game shutout like this, I'm very happy about how we played today and I think that we will do even better tommorow."

Now the daily rendition of how they scored:

1st Inning: The Warriors started off well as Merrick singled. Meyer then struck out to make it one on and one out. The next batte, Hank Greenberg continued his all star as he doubled to move Merrick to third and put runners on second and third and one out. Shawn Green than singled to center to drive home both runners to make it 2-0 Milchama. Al Rosen singled to bring Green to third before Tris Speaker hit into an inning ending double play.

That was all the offense in the game as Foster pitched a no hitter and was one walk away from a perfect game. The Warriors win 2-0.

OOC: ASMV, it would probably help to alleviate potential confusion on your part if I were to tell you why you are playing Coronado Del Marr rather than Tonissia. A few days ago Tonissia gave away his nation to Sdaeriji.

ASMV Looks Shaky as Confusion Reigns

The Pseudo Dragons Took the field in what was supposed to be a series against Tonissia. And for the first game it was Tonissia. The in the second game it switched to Coronado Del Marr. That's when the trouble began. ASMV managed a win in that second game (8-5) before the team confused themselves over the whole incident.

The next two games, ASMV looked more like a minor league team trying to cope with everything. What can we say. We have a few idiots on the team who do not process information very quickly.

Game 3 saw Coronado Del Marr explode fore a 7-1 win. (told you my guys are kinda stupid at times). Game 4 saw ASMV give Coronado Del Marr a gift in the bottom of the 9th, and let them escape with a 7-6 win.

That evened the series at 2-2. Now ASMV hopoes that everyone has now caught up to the situation at hand. One more game against those Coranado guys- this one for all the marbles. (I hope our guys found their marbles) It should be a great game. We havent lost 3 games in a row yet. Now is not the time to start that crap.

Milchama baseball gets another first

The Michama Warrior baseball team has created another first for Milchamian sports as they have become the first Milchamian sports team to win a playoff match/series as they swept the Florida Oranges in a three game series. While the win was expected its always worth reporting about anyway. The sweep now allows us to play NMS, a team we previously swept last NSWCB. This time though the competition looks to be harder as we lost to the Paladins the first game 7-5. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "This was not a loss I am proud of, espiecially with Foster on the mound but we will recover and tommorow I expect a Milchama victory."
Now for the daily rendition of how they scored:
Third Inning: After 11 batters of perfection for NMS pitcher Benny Graves the perfection ended on the 3rd pitch of Hank Greenberg's at bat as he walloped the ball over the wall and into the crowd to give Milchama the 1-0 lead. The lead was not to last long however as NMS soon struck back. We would give you names of who did it but unfortunately we could not find rosters for the Paladins (OOC: provide a link to the roster thread that's not in your sig and give us the names of the links in your sig not just line #1 etc. no clue what that means) Anyway suffice to that the #4 and 5 hitters got a 2 run double and homer to give the Paladins a 3-1 lead.
Fourth Inning: The curse of the homer struck again as the #7 hitter for the Paladins got a nice solo shot to increase their lead to 4-1.

Due to the fact that a great baseball player died today in Milchama we feel like we can no longer do the daily rendition of how they scored and instead honor Milchamian hall of famer Kent Puckman who died today at the age of 45. Puckman led the Brooklin Dodgers to two Championships and was considered one of the best players of that age. We apologize for any all inconvience.

Milchama get back on track

The Warriors came back today as they beat the Paladins of New Montreal States 4-3. The Warriors left it late as a bottom of the 9th single by Andy Cohen scored the winning run for the Warriors. Manger Jack Yosefon said, "I was right about my promise and haha to those who doubted me. I know that these guys are better than the Paladins and that we will definitely win this series. I'm not sure how many games it will take but it will happen fast and it will be good." Now onto the daily rendition of how they scored:

3rd Inning: The Paladins got the first run with a single by their #2 hitter then a double by the #4 hitter to put them up 1-0.
5th Inning: Then two innings later the 9 hitter got a ball he liked and smacked it just over the fence to make it 2-0 NMS.
6th Inning: The Warriors finally struck back in the 6th inning as Al Rosen singled, then Tris Speaker doubled him to third to put runners on second and third with one out. Barrett Hamilton then hit a long fly ball that moved both of the runners up 90 ft before Andy Cohen singled with two outs to bring in Speaker and tie the game up at 2.
7th Inning: Leave to the relivers to blow it as that is what happened in the 7th inning as both both the NMS reliever and Matt Commnick who gave up runs. First Commnick gave up a triple and sack fly before the Paladins reliever gave up a homer to Shawn Green. The score stayed tied a 3-3.
9th Inning: Al Rosen singled to lead off the inning. He was then bunted over to second by Tris Speaker. Then the 7th hitter Barrett Hamilton hit him over to third before Andy Cohen drove him in with a two strike single to win the game for the Warriors.

Milchama stay alive for one last final last game

The New Montreal States Paladins are giving the Warriors all they can handle. The Warriors again got another late inning run to beat the Paladins and tie the series at two for the rubber match to be held tommorow. Manager Jack Yosefon said, "Wow! I can't wait for this last game, I think this could be the best game we will play for a long time. I only hope that we can play some better baseball because our baseball so far has been very sub par. I expect a huge improvement in play tommorow so thus I expect a victory and Milchama to advance to the next round of the NSWCB."
Now onto the daily rendition of they scored:

5th Inning: Tris Speaker finally got over the hump as he did not just hit another double but a homerun that went just over the fence to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.
6th Inning: The lead was extended the next inning when Andy Cohen singled and was driven in by Buddy Meyer on a two out double to extend the lead to 2-0.
7th Inning: The cleanup hitter for the Paladins as with two outs he cleaned the bases on a double to drive in the lead off man. That cut the lead to 2-1.
8th Inning: The Paladins tied the game up as a homerun from the 7th hitter brought the score to 2-2. It was not to be for NMS though as Tris Speaker doubled to lead off and was bunted over to third by Micheal Flinter. Andy Cohen again proved key as he singled in Speaker to give the Warriors the lead that was held by Larry Sherry for the win.
