The Soth Invade (Open FT)

(ooc: ok, well first off i am going to say this once. No nation has a gigantic huge "whoopass" fleet here, this is the Wrendas Galaxy not the Milky Way. So you'd have maybe one or two ships max.)
This morning, the citizens of the region of space known as “The Arkons” were awoken to a single message on their computers; it was a widespread transmission from the Argelian League. It was a simple warning: “The Soth have broken through our lines and demolished our borders. They have consumed many of our planets and you are their next target.”
The Arkonians transmitted the message to the Rian Republic and two Scout Corvettes were sent to run several scans of the area. One ship was devoured, yes devoured, by the Soth Supremacy’s forces. The other returned with specimens of a living Soth.
The Soth are a large insectoid race that seem to be of a collective consciousness, they are bent, not on galactic domination, but on galactic devouration. They want to use up all the resources in this galaxy then use the MWG Stargate to take over the Milky Way Galaxy.
Of course the Rian, nor the rest of the Wrendas population, want that to happen. However, at their current rate of ingestion the Soth will penetrate the outer Vagar defences in about an hour’s time.
The Rian Republic is sending limited ships to help reinforce the Vagar lines, but are keeping the main fleets back in reserve, because now it’s not about stopping the Soth from breaking through, It’s just about delaying their approach to the gate.
President Seska Armarosa, now with full executive, legislative and military command powers, as given to her by the senate, has authorised the destruction of the gate if the time comes. So therefore any non resident of the Wrendas galaxy, or anyone that doesn’t want to be eaten alive by a 15 foot tall spider then you are requested to make your way to the MWG Gate before the Soth get there.

Reason and Unity
10-01-2006, 09:57
The small 30,000 person active population of Reason and Unity are not planet-bound but inhabit an array of space stations. Sub-D (Sub Dimensional) drives enable slightly faster-than-light travel for the stations, by using enormous magnetic fields to push the stations out of this dimension into another dimension, where the speed of light is faster than our own. The station then travels in the other dimension, before returning in a new location in the new dimension. The problem – the magnetic fields involved kill every living human aboard the station – scrambling neurons like a grenade cooks eggs.
R&U’s stations contain 4 million inactive people – stored personalities, memories, bodies in computer arrays. Mass generation units are capable of reconstructing a few hundred people per day – and redundant computer systems are responsible for reconstructing the population after Sub-D travel.
R&U only recently arrived in Wrendas Galaxy, and as such have not yet regrown their populations or rebuilt their non Sub-D capable craft – which had to be left behind during Sub-D travel. The 41 space stations that make up R&U are perilously low on energy and resources – and the mass generators have been taken offline to safeguard life support systems. The result? Half-regrown families that pine for members still not regrown.
The danger of Soth attack is worse than for any nearby neighbor civilizations – R&U have 4 part staffed military vessels, and they lack the stored energy for a Sub-D escape, not to mention it would take a week for all citizens to back themselves up for reconstruction – and that’s after all the necessary energy is collected.
A&U envoys rush to Rian Republic, willing to promise anything for energy and support – especially a Tow for their stations through the gate, but they fear the Rian Republic lacks the fleet and resources to lightly grant either request. Aboard a central station the A&U council works furiously, operating on only an hour of chemically induced sleep a day before returning to strategy. Some focus on maintaining morale within the people, others determine greater strategy while others study the Soth data, hoping to find a weakess.

At the front lines
The Republic reinforcements had arrived, and just in time too. The forty or so Soth vessels had engaged attack formation and were quickly approaching the wounded Vagar Battlegroup.
Enarrain Kya Kabrin, commander of the Custom’s Frigate Independence hailed the flagship of the Vagar Battlegroup.
“The republic sends its greetings and salutations to our Vagar allies; we are here to delay the Soth advance towards the Gate. There is no stopping them so we won’t even try.
You are authorised to pull back if you need to, we can take it from here.”
The Soth cruisers had arrived, now the battle of Inkas Prime had begun.
At the GateThree supertugs and their fighter escorts had arrived at the Gate, only to be called away again, some nation called Reason and Unity had requested their assistance in reaching the Gate.
erei'Riov Jay Xan of the Supertug Alpha Prime read over the dispatch message, “willing to promise anything for energy and support.”
Jay looked at his science officer, “What is the culture and technology rating of this, Reason and Unity?”
The officer looks over some readouts, “They have just moved to Wrendas so I cannot say anything about their culture, but technologically they are not as advanced as we are. Technology rating D.”
“Do they have access to the Soth Information?” Jay asked.
The science officer replied, “Most probably, the Senate sent out information beacons in all directions to warn people.”
Jay nodded, “Helm, take us to their stations, they aren’t too far away.”
The tugs engaged Stardrive and launched towards the last known location of the R&U Stations.
Wandering Argonians
11-01-2006, 04:14
The small, streamlined Ultani Armored Reconnisance Scout bore the insignia and markings of the 473rd ARC unit, and elite scout branch of the Argonian armada. Consisting of four man teams, usually led by a Commander, they are tasked with identifying potential threats to the Argonian people and doing what they can to eliminate them, or if possible, call in the fleet to deal with it. In their present situation, Charlie Team could not raise the fleet on the comms even if they needed to...
"Commander, there something coming up on the sensors, a small fleet. They look pretty battered, sir, possibility of a threat... Holy shit!"
Commander Kerick Jarri leaned in closer to the Staff Sergeant at the helm...
"Sergeant, what exactly am I looking at?"
Avis Terrik, the Staff Sergeant in question, made no reply...
"Sir, I'd suggest we lock and load, to be on the safe side..."
Came the gruff voice of Jarri's grizzled senior non-comissioned officer, Gunnery Sergeant Tavis Yetlin, a battle-scarred veteran with a cybernetic eye gleaming in his right eye socket...
"That ain't a bad idea, Gunney..."
The final word was from Staff Sergeant Jervik Tannar, something of a maverick among the ARC marines...
"Can it, Tannar. We hang back here and stand by; let this little situation play itself out, and defend ourselves as nessecary. Terrik, charge the plasma cannon pods..."
"Yes sir..."

The Tug’s had made it to the R&U stations with little difficulty, they had stopped to give directions to an Endori freighter and to help an old fighter cross the hyperlane.
But at last they were here, forty-one, rather small space stations sat ominously floating in deep space, “What the hell are they doing out this far?” the captain of Tug-1 said to his counterpart, “Oh well it doesn’t matter, activate tractor beams.”
Hail the R&U stations.
“Greetings to the members of the nation of Reason and Unity, this is the Rian Republican Tug-1. We will be taking you back to the Milky Way Galaxy in a few moments.”
The tactical officer on Tug-1 called, “Sir, tractors locked, engines raring to go.”
The Captain gave a nod, all the stations and the tugs shot into Stardrive.
In a remote star system in the Beta Quadrant, a single Rhinaran starship and three Romulan vessels circled the Goa'uld Ha'tak mothership, pounding it with wave after wave of disruptor fire. Golden energy sparkled around the pyramidal ship as its shield took the punishment from the Romulanoids. Had it been an ordinary Ha'tak vessel, its defenses would have long succumbed to the overwhelming powerfire of its combined enemies, but of course, this was no ordinary Ha'tak.
The bridge of the Rhinaran vessel, a Khervalon-class cruiser (http://people.ucsc.edu/~mattko/cruiser01.JPG), was partially lit, with a rim of red lights lining the edges of where the ceiling met the walls, making it quite clear that the ship was in battle conditions. Information was flowing in from the various stations on that bridge, the ones of import being reported to the commander in turn.
"The shields on the D'deridex are down," the Ops officer said. "The Ha'tak is closing in on it and Replicators are already launching themselves at it." The viewscreen showed hundreds of smallish, metallic Replicator spiders already floating toward the Romulan warbird. Since the Romulan vessel could still maneuver, a large number of the Replicators missed and drifted away into the depths of space, but a sizeable group of them latched on to the ship and began spraying an acidic substance that ate away at the green hull.
Had it not been for the Rhinarans' more advanced sensor masking technology, making their ship appear much less technologically advanced than it was, then the Replicator attack would be focused on them instead. For, despite its small size of barely 300m long, it was nearly on par with a D'deridex due to the Rhinarans' advances over their Romulan brethren.
"Set the repulsor to wide area effect. Disintegrate the Replicators still in transit before any more can reach the warbird," said Commander Vheralis. Her voice conveyed a sense of calm and control in the midst of combat, almost apathetic, even, but not quite. Keeping one's composure during intense moments was a trait common in the Rhinaran people, after all. At least, for the higher-ranking officials.
A red beam lashed out from the nose of the Rhinaran starship, spreading out like a triangle the farther from the ship it got as it swept through a mass of the spider-like metal creatures and turned them into harmless, free-floating atoms.
Without taking her eyes off of the viewscreen, Vheralis asked, "How many Replicators made it on to the warbird?"
"Approximately two hundred," replied the Ops officer. "The Romulans are unlikely to be prepared for a Replicator boarding attack."
With two hundred of those bugs on the Romulan warbird, the ship was as good as lost, and the commander knew this. It would not take long before the Replicators would start taking over the computer systems, and there would be nothing the Romulans could do about it short of setting the auto-destruct before the Replicators could gain control of that system. In the meantime, however, there was still a battle raging outside of the warbird. "Focus all weapons on the mothership," Vheralis said. "Target the forward section from where the Replicators launched off of. Prepare to fire on my command."
The screen followed the front view of the Rhinaran ship as it swung about and faced the Ha'tak and closed in on it. "Now," the commander said in that mild tone of hers.
Multiple disruptor blasts and volleys of torpedo fire rushed out in front of the ship and simultaneously slammed into the Ha'tak vessel, which was greatly modified and enhanced by Replicator technology.
"Commander!" came the Ops officer again. "I'm detecting an unidentified vessel flying into the star at warp 6."
"What is it doing?" Vheralis asked.
"I can't tell," said the officer. "It's coming in from a trajectory almost directly on the other side of the star, obscuring our sensors - Sir! It just entered the star!"
Vheralis furrowed her eyebrows, showing for the first time a hint of concern since this battle began. "Continue focusing the attack on the forward section of the mothership. Sublieutenant Ghervan, keep me apprised of any developments concerning that ship."
"Sir," Ghervan spoke up immediately, "the star is destabilizing. It looks like it's going to -" His console started beeping frantically and he looked down to check the readings.
"What is it?" the commander asked.
The ship lurched from a direct hit from the Ha'tak, sending people off balance and keeping the Ops officer from answering the question before he got tossed to the side. Now that the D'deridex was neutralized, not even the Khervalon's sensor-masking abilities could keep it from being the Replicators' next target.
Quickly pulling himself back up to his console, he said, "The star! It's gone supernova!"
"Set a course away from this system. Use the transwarp drives," Vheralis ordered, her words slightly more rushed than usual.
"Yes, sir," the pilot said. "Setting-"
Another direct hit sent the pilot's head smashing into the console, the body going limp. Another officer was quickly on the spot, taking the pilot seat and laying in for an escape route while a medical personnel attended to the fallen officer.
The new pilot shook his head, "Both warp and transwarp are offline."
"The last hit came really close to the engines," an engineering officer reported from off to the side. "It'll only take ten or so minutes to get them up again."
"We do not have ten minutes to spare before the forefront of that supernova's shockwave hits us," said the commander. "Have the engineers concentrate on the transwarp drives. They have five minutes."
Yet another strike from the Ha'tak, and the ship shook and rumbled in annoyance.
"The ship can't take much more from the Replicators, Commander," said the engineer. "Another close hit to the engines and those five minutes to repair the engines will become five hours."
Vheralis steepled her fingers. "Drop shields. Cut power from decks seven to twelve in the mid and forward sections. Go to one-tenth impulse."
The acknowledgements came in from the various parts of the bridge responsible for those actions as they were executed.
"Sir?" Ghervan asked, looking perplexed at his captain.
"Those Replicators are here to assimilate new technology, not destroy," explained Vheralis. "If they believe us to be damaged and vulnerable, they will cease firing upon us. That will give us a brief amount of time before they begin the boarding process."
Ghervan nodded to that, though Vheralis' steady and continual gaze upon the viewscreen probably meant that she did not see it. "Sir, the Ha'tak is on an approach vector on its maximum sublight speed. It will overtake us in twenty seconds."
"Once the Replicators begin launching at us, go to three-twentieth impulse power and begin evasive maneuvers," ordered the commander. "Set point defense to one quarter power. That should fool them just long enough."
The next twenty seconds passed slowly, almost as if time was stretched out to turn it into twenty minutes. Everything was quiet, the only sound being that of the beating of each person's heart, until Ghervan spoke up and said, "The Replicators are launching at us."
Immediately, the Rhinaran cruiser began swerving to avoid being latched onto by the Replicators. The generally smooth surface of the hull was suddenly marred by dozens of pointed protrusions as the point defense systems slid upwards out of the hull, like Protoss photon cannons coming out of their dormant positions to prepare for battle. Those Replicators that were getting too close would get zapped by the extreme accuracy of the turrets, cutting them up into pieces of debris.
On the viewscreen, one could see that the approaching shockwave was almost on them, and the Ha'tak vessel along with the remaining Romulan ships were trying to make their own escape.
"Shields up, all power to full," said Vheralis. "Move us away at maximum impulse. Status on the transwarp?"
The engineer watched the readouts closely. "They're just about...done! Let's go!"
"Lieutenant," the commander said to the pilot.
Without a moment's hesitation, the pilot punched the key on his console right as the edge of the shockwave began to wash over the rear of the ship. The Rhinaran cruiser slipped into a transwarp conduit, but was shaking tremendously. The normal spiralling lights of the conduit somehow seemed wrong as the cruiser careened onward.
"What is happening?" Vheralis asked, grabbing onto her armrests to keep herself steady.
The engineer looked at his console in confusion. "I'm not sure. The readings are all garbled. The shockwave must have done something to our systems."
As suddenly as the shaking began, it stopped and the transwarp conduit disappeared, taking the ship back into normal space.
"Status report," ordered the commander as everyone got their bearings once again.
Sublieutenant Ghervan checked and rechecked his sensor readings. "Sir, I...I'm detecting two fleets of ships surrounding us. None of the ships are of any known design, but they don't look like they're here for a tea party. We're still in a star system, but long-range sensors aren't recognizing any known configuration of stars from our starmaps. Sir, a small detachment of vessels from one of the fleets have broken off and are approaching us."
"Open hailing frequencies," Vheralis said as she stood up from her seat.
"Channels opened."
"Unidentified fleets, this is the Star Sovereignty vessel Astraalix," Commander Vheralis announced. "We have arrived here by mistake and pose no threat to any of you. We only wish to depart peacefully for our home, but we do not recognize this area of space that we are now in. Any assistance will be appreciated, but we will leave without further commotion if that is what you desire. End transmission."
After a moment, Ghervan said, "The detachment is still approaching us. They have not responded to the hail. Wait, I'm getting something from the other fleet. Patching it through."
This is the Republic Frigate Independence. You are in the middle of a battle between us and the Soth at Inkas Prime, and are about to be attacked by that Soth wing. We recommend that you pull back behind our lines for your own safety.
"The detachment has their weapons armed and are about to enter weapon's range," Ghervan continued to report.
"Shields at full power, impulse at maximum. Take us to that second fleet," Vheralis said. Not knowing who these people were, she could not trust either of them until she got more information, but an invitation for help against a potentially aggressive force was better than nothing at this point.
"Bringing us about and moving to the second fleet's position," said the pilot.
Ghervan looked up, "The detachment is opening fire!"
The cruiser shuddered slightly from the initial Soth attack at long range.
"Arm rear torpedo tube. Fire a full volley at the closest of their vessels when ready," said Vheralis.
"Torpedoes away," announced the tactical officer as six photon torpedoes zipped backwards to slam right into the face of the first Soth vessel in the detachment.
