NSPGA Tour - RP Thread

Schiavonia
18-12-2005, 20:38
The masses of sports press were gathered at the Kingsbury Rock Golf and Social Club in Schiavonia's capital city, Kingsbury, facing a podium. Upon the podium rested a name plaque. It read "Terry Pitt - President, NSPGA".

Moments later, a short man in a gold-buttoned suit stepped up to he podium with a piece of paper in his hand. "Could I have your attention please?" his voice boomed out of the address system.

"The NSPGA is proud to announce that it will shortly be commencing with it's inaugural tour. It is currently scheduled to take in seven different nations, and will have fifteen nations represented with fifty-five players.

"The tournaments on the tour are scheduled as follows..."

Pitt clicked on the mouse of the computer beside him, and the following was projected onto the wall behind him to his left hand side.

He read the display virtually word for word before continuing.

"Despite the plans we have in place already, we are still welcoming offers for new players (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=451376) all the time."

"The opening event will be here in Schiavonia, with a prize of US$200,000 for the winner."

As he says this, he shows the following slide:

Winter Sunshine Classic: Prize Money

"This is a bit more prize money than usual for a normal tour event in celebration of this being its first tournament. Remember, if your nation isn't involved, or your national association hasn't reached it's limit on the number of players it can enter, the NSPGA are still taking entries! (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=451376)"

"Thanks for your time, everyone, and we'll see you in Welkay!"

Amoran Golfers Mediocre in International Debut
12/20 - Welkay Hills, Schiavonia
-------------------------------

Today at the Winter Sunshine Classic, the team of five Amoran golfers on average were mediocre at their international debut. The tournament, the inaugural tournament of the NSPGA Tour, was held at the Welkay Hills course in Schiavonia. The top scorer for the team was Erika Meirah, who outperformed her fellow Amorans with a score of -4 on the opening round. She placed 7th, tied with players from Kericia, Euroslavia, Fmjphoenix, Novenga, and Krytenia. An impressive showing for the young twenty-year old from Salamah, she is currently the top female in the tournament. Fellow Amoran Kaysar Ridha, a twenty-three year old from Sharjah, was right behind her, with a score of -3 (tied at 15th). The other Amoran's in the tournament were Azusa Nahaya at 38th (0), Rahmez Sarjah at 46th (+3), and Drake Khaimah at 51st (+4). In first place was Jimmy Kingston of Schiavonia at -7 along with Ricardo Palmer of Hypocria.

In the first international sporting event for Amorah, the results may have been just okay, but popularity in golf has soared. Courses across the nation have been booked for the weeks to come, and in Sharjah and Salamah, viewing parties have been set up at large venues to televise mainly Erika Meirah and Kaysar Ridha, however all golfers are widely supported. The tournament is scheduled to end on the 23rd, and more news on the Winter Sunshine Classic is to come as the tournament progresses...

NSPGA Tees Off

He may be the nation’s top golfer but Alex Cole’s debut in the NSPGA was something a letdown. Due to an administrative bungle on the part of his caddie, Cole was denied entry into the opening tour event. Cole arrived at Welkay Hills blissfully unaware of the problems to come and was understandably shocked when officials told him that they had no record of his registration.

“I don’t understand it”, Cole’s caddie said later. “I filled out all the forms, put them in my jacket pocket like this and . . . oh . . . here they are.”

He then made a quick exit as his employer tried to take his head off with an 8-Iron.

It's unsure if the blunder has cost Cole his place on the entire tour or whether he will be allowed in for the second tour event in Shearwaters.

For the nation’s golfers who did manage to negotiate the entry forms it was a mixed day. Pylos born Ricardo Palmer was in fine form on his tour debut and ended the day with a share of the lead after an opening round 65. A run of five consecutive birdies on the back nine ensured Palmer a strong finish and he eventually entered the club house on 7-under par, tied with home favourite Jimmy Kingston at the top of the leader board.

Meanwhile, Greg Valentine is well placed on 2-under after a solid 70 but Marcus Nistrum struggled, finishing tied for 46th after a 3-over par 75.

Libbra Scales Leaderboard

A SUPERB birdie on the seventh hole was the highlight of Alex Libbra's round, as the Krytenian golfer fired his way to a solid 68 on day one of the Winter Sunshine Classic here in Schiavonia.

Libbra currently sees himself tied for seventh after the first round, three shots behind the leaders. Jimmy Kingston is one of those leaders, setting the host nation's fans into rapture. Elsewhere, there were under-par rounds for Ian Morris (70, -2) and John Rigizzi (71, -1). James Kanatar is one shott off the cut right now, after a level-par round on what seems to be a course to benefit the more aggressive golfer.

Milchamian Golfers off to mediocre starts in NSPGA Tour

Michal Fulmale (Last name pronounced Fool-Ma-Lay) and Thomas Dennis Moore got off to horrible and ok starts respectively. Moore started off with a horrible double bogey on hole one and never seemed to recover his confidence shooting a second to last place +4 on the day. His coach and caddy Yenny Berriman said, "His performance tends to be dictated by how he does on that first hole. Today he was off on the first hole when he hit his tee shot into the trees. It all went down hill from there and he never was able to recover. After the double bogey on the first hole Moore bogeyed the next 3 holes. He ended the front 9, 5 over par. The back nine he played much better even getting a birdie on 16 but it was too little to late as he could not overcome his bad start.

Fulmale, on the other hand, had a very good first round finishing at 1 under for the day. She had an ok front nine staying right at even par after birdieing the first hole but bogeying the 8th. The back nine was much smoother sailing for her after she started off poorly double bogeying the 10th. After that double bogey, though Fulmale rebouned resiliently getting a birdie on the 11th hole. Then after a few non eventful she hit what many people are calling the shot of the day on the 16th hole. In the trees on the third shot of the par 5 hole Fulmale hit a 6 iron shot that skidded thru a slight gap in the trees and went onto the green. She then putted in the next shot to birdie and put herself even. Then she ended the round well with a birdie on 18. Michal had this to say about her shot on 16, "I saw this gap and thought, well maybe I could hit it there and I would be out of the rough. Luckily it worked out and I was suddenly on the green with only a 7 foot put for birdie. I think it was a lucky shot."

Elsewhere in the round Schiavonian Jimmy Kingston, using his home country advantage, and Hypocrian Ricardo Palmer got off to great starts both starting with 65s and being 7 under at the end of round 1.

NSPGA in admin cock-up

The Schiavone-based NSPGA have admitted to a blunder that prevented Hypocrian golfer Alex Cole from participating in the opening round of the Winter Sunshine Classic at Welkay Hills.

In the end, the organisers allowed Cole to play his first round on the second day of the championship, meaning that he was forced to play 36 holes in one day. It meant that Cole's scores suffered as a consequence, the Hypocrian carding a disappointing one-over par 73.

Meanwhile, on the opening day, it was Jimmy Kingston who showed the field how to play. The Kingsbury-based player hit a magnificent 65 to tie for the lead after day one with Cole's compatriot Ricardo Palmer. However, the rest of Schiavonia's players failed to live up to the expectation of some fans, with Ken Johnson our next best player after Kingston in a tie for 21st place.

Hopefully Kingston can continue his form, while the rest of our players improve. You'll hear about it first here in the Schiavone Scribe!

Poor Showing in Round 2
12/21 - Welkay Hills, Schiavonia
-------------------------------

Today at the Winter Sunshine Classic in Schiavonia, four out of five Amoran golfers failed to make the cut as they were elimnated after a bad day at Welkay Hills. Azusa Nahaya, the young seventeen year old from Shimane, clearly showed that she had a lot to learn as she placed 43rd at +1 along with Drake Khaimah. Nahaya had plenty of shots at Birdie, however her poor putting abilities kept her at par until a shot in the sand trap on the 17th gave her a bogey. Rahmez Sarjah managed to get 48th with a +2, an improvement from his round 1 score of +3. A true dissapointment came when Kaysar Ridha of Sharjah, who left round 1 with a score of -3, missed the cut at 0.

However, Amoran's were excited for Erika Meirah, the nineteen year old from Salamah, who made the cut with a score of -3 at 22nd. Sports reporter Axel Riyadh got a chance to speak with her, however she was not too excited with her score but at least hopeful for the next round. She was quoted as saying: "I could've done better. Way better. I went from 7th to 22nd, and am now behind the leader with nine shots. Oh well, i'll do better tomorrow."

Cole Reinstated. And Then Cut

It’s been a NSPGA debut to forget for Alex Cole. The day had started off with good news for Hypocria’s number 1 when it was discovered that his caddie had actually sent off the registration forms while the papers the luckless employee had found the day before were actually a new life insurance policy he thought he might need while caddying for the temperamental Cole on the tour. The Schiavonia golf authorities graciously allowed Cole to enter the opening tour event but he had to play two rounds in the one day.

It turned out to be a deeply frustrating and very long day for the fiery Hypocrian as he shot two rounds of 73 to finish 2 over par and tied for 48th, a score not good enough to make the cut. Cole is joined on the plane home by Marcus Nistrum who finished his second round level par but finished 51st courtesy of his disappointing 75 on the opening day.

But there is still plenty of interest for the nation’s golf fans. Ricardo Palmer had another good day and shot a 4 under par 68 to move to 11 under par after two rounds. Palmer is tied for second with Fmjphoenix’s Jaime Roberts and just a shot behind leader and home favourite Jimmy Kingston. Greg Valentine also made the cut after an even par 72, leaving him tied for 25th on 2 under.

But the performance of the day belonged to James Cooper from the New Montreal States whose brilliant round of 63 saw him shoot up the leader board and eventually end the day on 10 under par, just two shots of the lead.

COOPER SHOOTS A 63

Sets course record; Duplessis, Labonté make cut

SCHIVONIA - The big news at the Winter Sunshine Classic yesterday was an astonishing 63-shot round that brought James Cooper from the middle of the pack to a tie for 4th place, 2 shots behind Jimmy Kingston of Schivonia.

"I went out there, just trying to make the cut," said Cooper, who wasn't even leading the NMS contingent after the first round at Welkay Hills. "After nine holes (on which he shot a 32), it dawned on me that this might be a fairly special outing." Cooper will have a uphill struggle to maintain his position on the board, as this tournament is far from being decided as it heads into the weekend. Cooper's round has given hope to anyone who made the cut that they can grab a share of the lead in short order.

"If he can do it, why not me?" asked Stewart Outhwaite of Schivonia, Mr. Cooper's partner for the first round. "He wasn't anything special out there during that round. A couple birdies. a couple bogeys, y'know, nothing extraordinary out there."

Marcel Duplessis is currently tied for 8th place, 5 shots behind Kingston. Duplessis, the informal "captain" of the NMS contingent, had this to say: "Well, James certainly did a brilliant job out there, but all three of us made the cut. That's a lot more than can be said for a bunch of other nations, and I think that this has been a fairly satisfactory tournament for us so far. Of course, we've still got nine more to go. There's a lot of work ahead, and I hope we're up to it."

André Labonté is tied for 17th place, 8 shots back. He heard Duplessis' little soliloquy, and had no further comment, other to say something about James and "owing the bastard a steak dinner."

SCHIAVONIA PRESS APOLOGISE

Christmas in Schiavonia, and everyone is off work.

Including those at the NSPGA, whose headquaters is in the nation's capital, Kingsbury. This has meant that the Sunshine Winter Classic, held in Welkay, also in Schaivonia, has come to a sudden standstill without the rest of the World going on. Schiavonia just has a couple of weeks holiday in the middle of the festive period, covering Christmas and New Year. And with out climate, why not?

You may be wondering, then, how we're writing this piece for the Schiavone Scribe. Well, firstly, it is the middle of the night, and we're doing it on the sly while nobody's looking. And secondly, we're writing from offshore. As for the golf... it's 1am, it's dark, and I'm really tired. But the third round should be under way in less time than has passed since the second round.

OOC: Soory about the delays, but I've been out a lot, making the most of the holidays. And working, too. Once everything's settled down, we'll get the whole thing going a bit more regular soon.

COOPER TURNS BACK INTO PUMPKIN

1-over round propels him right back down the leaderboard

SCHIAVONIA - In between rounds of ale and BoF football, some people are still golfing for money here in Schivonia. James Cooper, apparently, is above such monetary concerns.

A 1-over bomb sent him sliding back into the pack, canceling the gains he had made with his 63 before the holidays.

"Eh," he said. "C'est la vie, pis il faut le vivre."

André Labonté and Marcel Duplessy both turned in one-unders, causing them to fall on the boards as pretty much every other nation surged ahead. "Not the greatest of days for any of us," said Duplessy. "Tomorrow's another day."

Back in New Montreal, meanwhile, Loic Perron awaits word on whether or not he will get to host a second tournament for NMS (OOC: See the signup thread.) He has reportedly sent some of his personal staff members to schmooze tournament higher-ups, but we haven't seen any. Although that was a nice cigar the NSPGA head offered me when I interviewed him for my wrap-up tomorrow...

Abloc Evans smiled lightly as he brought his soda to his lips. Fifth place was hardly bad for a first time contender in the tournament and he still had plenty of time to fight his way up to the top, if he only wanted it enough. That was why he wasn't celebrating tonight, just relaxing before bed.

"Mr. Evans, who first began to play professional gold some seven years ago..." droned the television in the background. Itr was nice all the coverage he was getting on the Danaan stations. He realized, as he turned his attention to the young reporter on the screen, that this tournament was making him his nation's champion. He was well ahead of all the other Danaan contenders, with ANdras Morgan far below at number twelve. It was certainly a pleasant development.

Putting aside thoughts of his career, forcing back any anxiety that might effect his game tomorrow, Evans put his drink away, turned off the television and the light, and went to sleep.

Gordon Captures Winter Sunshine Classic

Kerician Josh Gordon capitalized on the collapse of Gregory Fonsdale of Euroslavia to win the inaugaral NSPGA event in Schivonia. Fonsdale held a one-shot lead over the 35-year-old Gordon going into the final round, only to score a disappointing round of 76 to finish tied for eighth. Gordon, meanwhile, shot a solid 67, 5 under par, to earn US$200,000 for the victory. He held off Jaime Roberts of Fmjphoenix by one shot for the win. The soft-spoken Northport native had this to say:

"This is a great way to start off the year... I don't know if I can keep this up the whole year, but I'm sure Sean, Andy, Zach, and Casey will fare well over the long run. I'm just thankful to have this oppurtunity."

Two other Kericians placed in the top ten, with Sean Jaquin in fifth and Zach Fayette finishing tied for eighth. Casey Donovan and Andy Lloyd failed to make the cut.

IN-STUDIO COMPERE: ... when umpire Heath Johnson was carried from the pitch after a stray wicket flew up and lodged in his throat. In the uproar the remainder of the field officials called an end to the day's play. Coverage of the match's resumption will occur tomorrow at fourteen hundred here on Novenga Sport One.

Turning to golf, the Winter Sunshine Classic concluded today at Welkay Hills with two of Novenga's golf side finishing in the money. Women's Tour legend Shelagh Doone finished with a respectable five-under 67 to tie for eighth place overall with a 72-hole total of eleven-under 277, while V I Putaranajam went even par on his final round to finish with sole possession of 28th at three-under 285. NSO's Colin Candee spoke briefly with Putaranajam.

CANDEE: V I, it seemed as though you were struggling somewhat over the course of the tournament.

<<graphic: V I Putaranajam 74-65-74-72=285 -3>>

PUTARANAJAM (nodding his head vigorously): Yeah, yeah. That second round was all that kept me alive in this tournament I think. I had pretty much everything going my way that day and it looked then like I might be able to mount a charge on the leaders, but next day it was like I was hitting with tyre irons again, just like the first round.

CANDEE: Was it the course, or was it you?

PUTARANAJAM: Most likely it was me. Yes, I heard the other Novengan players complaining under their breath at dinner after that secondround that the course wasn't being maintained well between rounds, but to be honest I myself did not notice any of that. In fact if I think about it the course played more or less the same all four days.

CANDEE: Any words of congratulation to Shelagh Doone?

<<inset graphic wipe: Shelagh Doone 68-72-70-67 = 277 -11>>

PUTARANAJAM: She did very well for herself considering she hits from the ladies' tees, and I raise my glass to her.

IN-STUDIO COMPERE: V I Putaranajam as interviewed by Colin Candee. Shelagh Doone was unavailable for comment or reaction to Putaranajam's remarks.

COOPER BOMBS, DUPLESSY ROCKS, LABONTÉ SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN

Third-place finish provides solid base for next tourney

SCHIVONIA - After hanging in the pack for most of the tourney, Marcel Duplessy was the surprise story of the final day, shooting a 65 to seize a share of third place at 15 under at Welkay Hills Golf Club in Schiavonia. James Cooper, meanwhile, continued his free-fall after setting a course record with a 63 on the second day, barely avoiding a last-place finish with a remarkable five-bogey second round to finish at 6 under.

André Labonté finished two shot ahead of Cooper at 8-under, in a tie for 18th place. Cooper had no comment, Labonté merely said: "Eh," and Duplessy said he had to pack for the next tourney. The tourney winner was Josh Gordon of Kericia, with a 19-under par for the tournament, sneaking in ahead of Jaime Roberts of Fmjpheonix with a -18, decided only when Roberts missed a birdie putt on 18.

NSPGA TO MOVE

The NSPGA have announced that they will be moving from their current headquarters in Kingsbury, Schiavonia to somewhere, somewhere else.

"We haven't had a good time of it here in Schiavonia," said a spokesperson for the assocciation, "The country seems to have forgotten about us now that football has arrived."

"We would like to apologise for the lack of golfing action for the world's top pros, but we believe our location might have something to do with it."

The NSPGA have not specified where they would like to move to, so any interested parties should sontact the Schiavone authorities, and then we'll see what they can do.

OOC: Basically, I'm looking to see if anybody would be willing to take over scorination responsibilites from me, as I just don't have the time right now (I am RPing in the WC threads in any time I can get on NS). If you're interested, just TG me.
