Difloxia has begun constructing a gate system between Sol and Alpha Centauri!

The gate system is being constructed along with the help of The United Star Empire of Valinon, who has agreed to give them rights to harvest Hydrogen from a gas giant in there system, as long as Difloxia agrees to a non-aggression pact, a mutual free trade agreement, and permanent diplomatic ties.

Difloxia has a rich history of space travel, and supposedly is a peaceful nation.

Statement of Duke Adrian Sterling, First Minister for Her Imperial Majesty's Foreign Affairs, on behalf of Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government

Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Friedelinde Alderman I, and Her Majesty's Government are pleased to welcome the Confederacy of Difloxia to the Alpha Centauri system and the superluminal international community. We look forward to seeing the Confederate presence above Prometheus Centauri prosper and hope that it will represent the continuing efforts between our two nations to grow closer together.

The United Star Empire, acting in its capacity as the sovereign power of the Alpha Centauri system, will provide for the continued security and well-being of the Confederate personnel and facilities so long as they are in active operation, or until such time the Confederacy can provide for its own security measures.

Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government will also look forward to welcoming an official diplomatic mission of the Confederacy to New Koln in the near future.

New Superluminal Establishes Presence in Alpha Centauri

Kammerherr the Lord Erwin von Ribbentrop, acting as Her Imperial Majesty's spokeman, has confirmed previous rumors that Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government have granted a new superluminal nation-the Confederacy of Difloxia (See Fact Brief on Difloxia?)-the rights to establish mining operations in the Prometheus Centauri planetary system.

"Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government, after careful thought and considerable dialogue with the Confederate government, have decided that it is in both the best interests of the Star Empire and the Confederacy to establish a stronger bond between our two nations. In order to facilitate the creation of this bond, Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government have granted the Confederate government the right to establish a mining outpost above Prometheus. Rest assured, this agreement will not be allowed to disrupt the continuity of the orbital cities of Prometheus and the Confederates will not be a disruptive presence within the Alpha Centauri system," said the Kammerherr in his statement earlier today.

Lord von Ribbentrop also went on to confirm that the Confederacy will be establishing a FTL connection gate between Sol and Alpha Centauri in order to establish their primary means of travel between the systems. Imperial resources and ships will be used to transport initial Confederate construction crews from Sol, which will be departing from the Dominion of Mizar. The Kammerherr has said that the "continued security, safety, and integrity of the Alpha Centauri system and the Vaterland will continued to be provided for" and that the establishment of a gate connection will not "seriously affect commerical or imperial operations within the system."

Archduke Faustus Metternicht and Baron Gunther von Richter, as well as a large number of other key Centrists, have already protested the establishment of the FTL gate, saying it represents and unnecessary risk to the Vaterland. In regards to this Lord von Ribbentrop and Prime Minister the Lady Rolt have issued a statement saying this position is "wholly unwarranted and without any appreciable merit" and that the Kriegsmarine and the Dominion of Alpha Centauri's Imperial Centauri Fleet will be more than sufficient to handle the increase security around the gate.

Economic effects of the gate continued to be speculated, with many believing the gate will have no measurable effect on travel or commerce between Alpha Centauri and Sol, given the proximity of the two systems and the lack of need for a gate with present Verner drive technology. However, several spokesperson for the United Conglomerates of Valinon have suggested that they will be using the gate to renew operations and investment in the Sol system once an appreciable agreement with the Confederacy is...full story?

"I'm glad we could make this agreement, I'll assist in maintaining security within the system shortly, after construction of the Mining Station is complete I intend on placing an experemental defense system on it, using technology from the Warp Gates to accelerate matter fired from mass drivers to near light speed. I just need your permission to bring weapons into the system, and I can put it in place."

The Star Empire will of course fully support the efforts of your government in trying to establish its own defenses for your mining station and your warp gate in the Alpha Centauri system. Her Imperial Majesty and Her Majesty's Government feel that it is essential for nations trying to develop a presense in the interstellar community to realize that security and defense are paramount in a galaxy that can be as perilous as our own.

However, we would respectfully request that the building of such defenses be coordinated with the Star Lords of Her Imperial Majesty's Admiralty, and the offices of Reichsprotektor the Lord Reynard Adonis-operating in his capacity as supreme commander of Her Imperial Majesty's Armed Forces. In return, the Star Empire is more than willing to assist the Confederacy in the development and testing of this system, albeit we would recommend it be initially tested in a location that would have an extremely low or non-existant risk to any nearby habitations or civilian operations.
