How should Rejistania develop?

Rejistania
12-12-2005, 21:01
Currently, Rejistania is on the brink of a large change. A change, which can go in virtually any direction. The first free and fair elections can have nearly ANY result and OOCly, I am a bit indecisive about the future of the nation. So tell me what you want the formerly karelan dictatorship to become!

Perhaps embrace foreign cultures. If the Rejistanian-made concept of Karela was proven to not be perfect by a bunch of n00bs like Starblaydia's team, maybe Rejistania could become somewhat like modern-day Japan, as the youths there eat up USAnian culture like there's no tomorrow.

Plus you could keep all the temples :)

You could start by losing an odd match here or there to Sarzonia. ;)

In all seriousness, perhaps you can adopt an Imperial Chancellor of Karela and make him or her a figurehead, sort of the way the Queen is a figurehead in the U.K. And then you can keep the temples of Karela as historical landmarks and charge money for people to visit them, using some of the revenues to fund security to keep certain terrorist factions from destroying artifacts or damaging the computer architecture required to maintain Karela.

You mean, making High-priest Haxada the head of state but denying him real power.... I assume that is a good idea. And of course the temples will remain, they ARE beautiful and there will be people still worshipping Karela (as well as tourists, who want to see them).

A Karelan government (like the UCSCH, not the Takilan “Karelan” Dictatorship, only adapted to Rejistanian culture—people would be less focused on the economy, for instance ) with Takilan sports (Takil Lines?) would be an interesting change. Especially when your capitalist economy tries to market Rejistanian technology in other countries. :P

Well, IRL, we have IMNSCO enough with Kim Jong-Il and Turkmenbasy(sp?) as well as others, but right, it is fun to RP!

I think Sarz has the right idea: wherever the rest of Rejistania goes, Karela can still be an important and ancient cultural part of the nation but with no real influence.

I think the idea of a Karelan figurehead similar to the Queen or the post-1945 Japanese Emperor is brilliant.
Kurona
13-12-2005, 17:47
Well you could do as Kurona, maintain little connections with the modern world. We have what is necisary for health, defense and information, but that is all. We don't support MEGA capitlaims, as opposed to traditional family busniess and values. Most places in Kurona don't have electricty or other modern appliances, which saves the nation from over dependency on foreing oil. (Althoug we are not free of a need of of) and the pollution that comes from Burning Fule.l

It is a good idea to make Haxada head of state, but it is not really complying to the seperation of church/temple and state in democratic nations... but England has the same problem as well...

ICly I'd like to see a capitalist democracy of course, but on the other hand I quite like how your country is playing out right now. Do what your heart tells you. :)
Obdura
14-12-2005, 07:49
Well I assume that some of these options are religious/philosophical, and refer to what the majority of your citizens would believe, and some are clearly political/economic, and so refer to how your citizens will be govern themselves. These are really distinct issues, though they may influence one another.

On the religion side of things, I don't know your country well enough to offer an opinion, but of course the People's Republic of Obdura has to support the communist democracy option! If your primary concern is providing ALL of your citizens with quality healthcare, education, food, housing, etc. and maintaining social equality (either equality in fact OR just equality of opportunity), then capitalism is probably not the way for you. Note that communism doesn't require enforced atheism either; Obdura has freedom of religion still, but religion is firmly separated from politics and religious institutions aren't allowed to amass any sort of wealth here.

Of course, if you primarily just want super-advanced technology (that doesn't serve public interests) and an unstoppable military, then you may want to look elsewhere. Communist countries can have these things, but they probably aren't the best at obtaining them.

The People's Council wishes Rejistanian communists and socialists good luck and will fully support them any way it can.

Like I proposed on IRC...

A representative democracy on 2 levels: presidency and parliament. Both elected(that's the goal of democracy :p )

There are 3 parties:
- Takilan Party
- Karelan Party
- Imdilan-Hisisim Alliance

If we compare with Canadian parliamentarism, we get these equivalences:

Takilan Party = Liberal Party
Karelan Party = Conservative Party
Imdilan-Hisisim Alliance = New Democratic Party

If you want to copy Canada, just include a province that wants to secede and name a party after them that will be named "Bloc (name of the province)". The only thing they will do is whine about how the leading party does its job :p

If you don't mind the prodding of a FT freak nation adding some flavor to the pot luck. I chose Cap/Demo since that's the basic basic version of my FT nation.

The similarities end there. Period. =^^=

How can non-karelan enterprises make it better. They are not enlightened by the teachings of Taderekansa ;)
